This video shows how to install the CAT EYE Velo 7 ( wired ) Bike Computer. I purchased this computer mainly for the speedometer function, however, it does WAY more than that. Super easy to install without tools and very inexpensive. There's also a wireless option if you are willing to pay a little more. This video shows general set up and installation. Refer to the owner's manual for detailed functions. Thanks for watching, commenting, and subscribing!

This was the easiest and most simple tutorial video I have ever seen
THANKS
Thank you!! This is much easier for me to follow than the photo guide that comes with the unit. Much appreciated!
Glad it helped, Rachel! Hope my other videos are just as useful!
Exactly! Great video! Thank you!
like for real
Thank you especially for being so clear and understandable.
You are so welcome, Jane!
I like that the spoke magnet can be 5mm from the sensor.
Many cheaper sensor systems require a very tight 2mm maximum.
I have a 1988 Cateye wired system still working just fine (33 years!).
This one will go on my light-duty mountain bike.
nice!
You are a lifesaver! I read the instructions a dozen times and they still made no sense.
glad to help, Jan!
Thanks for this, I couldnt wrap my head around the included instructions
Glad my video helps you out, my friend!
5mm clearance is what I was after, thanks. Very helpful
Thanks for watching my video
Helped me much more than the manual! Thank you!
Glad it helped, Julia!
Absolutely perfect demo video. Thank you soooo much.
You're very welcome!
No alien in history man can begin comprehende the manual.
I thank u sir.
What ARE you???
lol
Fantastic video!
Saved the day Thankyou!
Paper instructions take a week to digest! 🤣
You're welcome!
Excellent, clear and precise demonstration, thank you. I would prefer to use the wireless, but unfortunately all of the cateye wireless odometers have issues if you also use an LED light on the handlebars.
Thanks for sharing
The cateye wireless computers also have issues if you are listening to music from your cell phone mounted to the handlebars. 😉🚴🏻♂️
I have the Cateye Velo 9, which is the same setup as this but was unable to achieve a 5mm clearance between spoke and fork. 1cm was the smallest distance I could get. It seems to work but I don’t know if this will affect the readings. Also, for those questioning the removal of the computer from the bracket, check on the side of the bracket for a release button or lever. This should allow you to slide it off safely.
Thanks for the comment.
Excellent video, the only one i completely understood, very clear precise instructions, thank you
You are welcome, Jan!
Used this to set up my Velo 9. Very easy to follow & set up. Thanks 😊 so much 👍.
Glad it helped!
Thank you. Saves me a lot of time.
used to own a velo9 in my tweens(2013), clocked nearly 5k on the odo before someone decide to nick it, leaving behind the mounts and wiring. So I brought a velo 7 about 3 years later, for a bit more than what I paid for the velo 9(inflation), and saved the wiring and mount in the box. After about a couple of years I decided to sell the bike and with it went the velo 7 to the new owner.
just ordered a brand new velo 7, paying about 35% more than what I paid for it in 2016. hope my old mounts work.
I was currently using a wireless bontrager gotime, but im just not happy with it cause it randomly stops clocking.
Never thought I'd go back to the trusty cateye again, but glad I saved the box for over a decade.
This one works great for me. The price is good as well
ARgghh. I have the cateye 9, and all is the same, but at the 2:30 mark, you don't press the set button after choosing 12/24 clock in order to go to the time. Instead, you hold the mode button to go to the time. Been trying to figure this out because this plan wasn't working, and then I noticed it was for cateye7. Otherwise great! Thx.
Thanks for watching, and commenting, my friend!
The video is excellent. Can I share it on my own amazon page?❤
great instructions for install, actually can understand them...wondering
if the unit automatically resets the daily trip mileage after each ride back
to Zero for the next ride??
You have to manually set it back to zero
@@PhilCrockett ...thank you
no prob, Gary
Thanks a million, clear concise and it helped me fix my bike
Glad it helped
crystal clear concise, excellent presentation
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching and commenting, Dave! Hope you like my other vids as well.
Magnet location on the wheel would change the speed or distance calculation correct?
For example, middle of the spoke would read more rotation vs the outer section.
The manual doesn’t specify location.
My engineering side doesn’t like this lol.
Any information?
I just followed the instructions as close as I could.
Thanks for the video. Perfect step by step easy as 1 2 3
thanks for watching
Excellent instructions. Thank you.
The best tutorial. Thanks so much!
You're very welcome!
Thank you so much sir
How has it been so far ? Any problems ?
and can I measure the distance traveled with it ?
still working great. Yes, you can see distance on this
How do you turn it off ? Or does it just automatically go to the clock and stays on ?
Very good video, I might add this also works for their Enduro model, which might be chosen by people who give it a little more rugged of use
Thanks!
Good video. My bike is almost identical to yours, including the color.
Right on
Once it’s been snapped on, how do you get the dang thing off? I’ve tried, and it ain’t easy that’s for sure. AND how do you turn the unit off after your ride? I didn’t see anything in the manual on that.
I just leave it on. Not sure if there is an off switch to be honest
Thank you so much, you're a hero
You're welcome!
Thank you! Very helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
Getting industrious are you, Phil?! Not here. Just watching stuff bud and bloom and hoping it all doesn't get zapped by the cold snap but it's been blowing too much for frost to lay, even if it does get as cold as the politickal weather persons say. Hope all is well with yall. We're still in Gods hands here in the hills so GBWYall from (Us'ns)
The weather has been up and down here. When the weather cooperates, I've been riding my bicycle. We live on a bike trail that goes from one end of the state to the other. I got pretty heavy and went on a low carb diet last October and started exercising. So far I've lost 55 lbs. I'll probably have another bike related video come out in a couple weeks. You'll like it.... it's one of my genius/silly ideas (HA!). Been riding a lot. I make sure to take a lot of pictures when I go out. We live in a pretty part of the state. Don't know if you're on Instagram, but look me up by name (and PC logo) and see my nature pictures. I have it open to public since I don't post any personal stuff. Anyway.... always good to hear from you Lewie!!!
@@PhilCrockett Glad to hear it. I used to ride but this highway is a narrow 2-lane and a death wish. I'll watch you. We're supposed to get bad weather this weekend but we can use the rain. Let it pour! So Thanks, Phil and God Be With Yall!
Does it have backlight? A light source for the screen? Hw does it work at night? Pls answer.
It does not have a back light that I know of. I have never ridden in the dark.
does the cpu turn on immediately after battery is placed or do you need to press a button ?
Not sure
in case you lost wheel magnet can i do something to reuse my computer bike??? thank you
not sure about that. probably should see if you can get a replacement magnet.
Perfectly as described!
Thanks for watching!
Are you supposed to turn it off? because I can't figure out how to do that.
I leave mine on always. just like a watch
Just purchased 2 for our new MTB's do not like small inaccessible program buttons on the back with no tool included first time mode select would not even set problematic right off the bat they are going back. Also heard from other reviewers screen is not readable when you wear Polaroid sunglasses.
Good point on the polarized sunglasses tip
Is cateye velo 7 waterproof? Is it okay to include the wired part for bike wash?
I taking it out in the rain all the time. Never had a problem.
how do you reset the odometer without clearing all info?
hmmm..... not sure you can.
This worked for me until selecting the 12 hr clock. At this point in your video, the hour is flashing, but mine is not, so I can't set the time. Maybe I'll wait until 1:00 and reset it then.
Hmm…. Not sure why urs isn’t flashing
Great video. But, the time setting function at 2:24 of the video requires a 3-second press and hold of the mode button after selecting military or standard time. Doing this will bring up time function. After setting the hour, press and hold for another 3 seconds to set the minute. At this point turn the unit over and press set.

Question, how do you remove it from the bracket when you need to change the battery?
It just slides out of the track.
Phil Crockett mine doesn’t, unfortunately. Thanks for trying to help though.
@@okiepita50t-town28 Mine doesn't slide out easily either. I'm going to try greasing it or find the friction points and remove those by sanding or filing. Grease experiment: FAIL!
I tried grease after I posted my first comments.
Phil Crockett unfortunately mine doesn’t either just got it snapped it in before programming now I can’t get it off what a piece of junk
Thank you for this video .
Welcome!
Hi i just bought this same one.
Can you turn it off if you're not using?
I never do.
No you can't. It will enter sleep mode after 10 mins of inactivity however the clock will always be displayed
Is it important to have the sensor 1/2 down on the spokes? I have 20" wheels on a recumbent trike. Followed set-up on the computer, installed sensor very near the rim (front tire), and mph is about 2X what I'm actually peddling. Thanks
It's all about the distance between the sensors.
The way I understand it, it doesn't matter how far up or down the spoke that you put the sensor, because it's signaling a full rotation when it passes the indicator, regardless of the position. Distance traveled is calculated from rotations times circumference, and speed is calculated by distance per time.
Hi Phil, computer does not allow me to go to 29inch. Ends at 27inch, on the size guide there is 29 but my computer seems to be missing that option.
Any ideas?
maybe choose 700.... 700c is = to 29"
Can it be installed on rear wheel? As I am using home trainer due to lock down
Sure it can!
how to reset the trip to zero? I had a different brand and I used to press and hold a button and it starts from zero again.
Gosh, it's been quite a long time since I've messed with this product. I will have to get back to you on this.
Thanks for video! Unfortunately I had to dispose of mine because I think the metal prongs couldn't get a good connection with the cradle. You see, I haven't used the computer for several years. Also the screen got dark in the middle which made it hard to read.
Thats a pity 😩😁
well, at least they are fairly inexpensive to purchase.
Can you set the odometer (i.e. add the miles you have accumulated before you reset the computer)?
You mean manually put in miles? I don't think so.
Is it waterproof?
I don't know for sure, but I have used it in the rain and I've never had any problems. I'm assuming it is weatherproof, not waterproof.
Really good product
yes
Hi sir. My tire size is 27.5x2.0, how do i set the size guide on the computer?
I would just go along with the instructions. there's a chart to follow.
Great tutorial
Glad you think so!
l press set button to store km h but seems it does not set ...guess set button is broken
I get a lot of folks saying that. These aren't the highest quality for sure
Very helpful. Thanks
Glad it was helpful, Barclay Neel!
Great 🤠
This is helpful 💡
excellent
Thanks for this!
My pleasure, Raymond!
i've lost the magnet and the base in a crash, anyone knows a way to still use the display somehow????
You really need that magnet. These things are cheap enough, I would just buy another one
is there a option to turn off a cateye?
yes. you can let it time-out and turn itself off.
can this be used on a spin bike?
sure!
Hi, computer is not allowing me to set up the time... help
before hitting set when you select military or regular time hold the mode button for two seconds and it will go to the hour and than hold it for two more seconds and it will go to the minute than press set
Thanks for the explanation, Ella!
Great video. But, the time setting function at 2:24 of the video requires a 3-second press and hold of the mode button after selecting military or standard time. Thanks for the tip!
This is only possible in Velo 9, not in Velo 7.
I can't put the tire size to 27.5 x 2.25 pls help
if it's not in the manual, I wouldn't know. Maybe ask a clerk at a bike shop.
muy buen video! muchas gracias, llévate un like =D
Gracias!
Thanks
Welcome
Thanks!
No problem! Thanks for watching. Hope my other videos are just as helpful.
I have a wheelchair I want to use this on, but my wheels don't have spokes, they are mag wheels.
There's got to be a way to do it......hmmmm
suoer glue it to the mag wheels?
Hoe kan ik hem steeds resetten!
het is gemakkelijk.... druk gewoon op de resetknop.
How do you turn it off?
I usually don't.
You don't. It will enter sleep mode after 10 mins of inactivity however the clock will always be displayed
I had to put the magnet on the back wheel cause I’m always doing wheelies
I had to put one on the back wheel of my unicycle
Backlight?
not that I recall. I only do daytime riding.
There is not a backlight
mine's not showing the speed
hmmmmm
Try to level ur magnet and sensor almost exactly same also try to bring the sensor near to magnet if still not working u myt need to replace ur wire which I did it recently
Soporta al agua?

thanks for tip
For me everything works except the speed measurement.
hmmmm...
They should link your channel in the instructions. Instructions not helpful at all re: exact location on spoke to mount the sensor.
That would be nice. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
is it just me or this thing is useless at night as i cannot find any light on it
ikr
I had a brain fart and was about to ask "how far up the fork do the sensor and wheel magnet need to be for an accurate reading?"...
Then it dawned on me that it shouldn't matter as long as they match up. 😏
Exactly!
why are you wearing gloves?
because I have a giant bloody cut that is unsightly on camera
After my second Garmin Edge 520 died unexpectedly I decided to try something different - the Wahoo ELEMNT Bolt instead of the Garmin 530. Boy! I'm glad I did. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxXZCtB-wGdHVTBSz8RswePK5vllHNi06N The display on the Wahoo Bolt is much easier to read. I like the configuration of the display more (up to 7 items visible on page 1 without scrolling and the first item chosen is larger characters than the next 3 rows that have pairs of items (still very readable). I also like the configurable item selections. The Bolt synced with my Garmin ANT+ Speed sensors on both bikes easily so no additional investment was required there. While the rated battery life is a couple hours less than the Garmin 520/530, I easily get a weeks worth of 1+ hour rides before recharging (and it's never really low on charge). At the end of a ride syncing to the Wahoo app, Strava, and Apple Health app is painless.
Thanks for watching and commenting
Spot on ...clear.
great! thanks for watching and commenting, Mark. Hope my other videos help you out as well.
