..she was in an area where she couldnt even race where she was and on top of that a very unfair race..but still cute dont get me wrong..cute.

The little kid couldn’t even ride he got way to close to the other horses but before they lined up to even start but it was funny and imagine if the horse finished for him and won!!

@@user-ck5mg9rh8t They're kids, it's safe for the ponies and the children. It is only unsafe if the rider is too big for the horse, and in this event, the kids are all the right size, it's better for kids to ride ponies so then there is less of a chance of severe injuries while riding :)

that boy had it coming, he needed to sit up and calm that pony down from the moment he got on board, he'd have had a disciplinary if he'd been doing the UK version, He got too close to the pony in front when they were on parade, and entirely pulled his pony off balance which is why it stumbled. HOpe he's learned his lesson

This race was kind of unfair. They didn't even start off properly. you basically gave that 1 guy a head start, which isn't fair...

This is so entertaining, I’ve watched it about 20 times now over the years
That was the cutest race i have ever seen. Those little Shetlands can run! And their little feet! Great job for that boy on getting back up. My Shetland would love to do this.
Just love how one of the pony goes off and finishes the race on its own :P

That little bay was quite the pistol! He was taking that big bay paint pony on the outside. If he hadn't have stumbled and the boy fell off, they would have won. Good race.

I saw how that pony who lost it's rider was so careful not to step on the kid....it knew where the kid landed and narroly missed them by swinging it's hind side out further. Smart pony!

I’m watching this and thinking “If I heard of this when I was younger I would’ve beg my mother to let me do this when I didn’t know how to trot, canter or gallop let alone jump!”
It wasn't in the US before the previous year to this, it's been in the UK for decades, they go round the county shows raising money for charity.
Who needs thoroughbreds when you have Shetlands!?

not true - I'm a jockey youre supposed to hold the reins tightly before the race so your horse/pony doesn't get his/her excitement up to much. Then when the race bell goes you losen your reins a touch and leg your pony/horse on

Anna they're aren't meant to be in a normal horse shape they're meant to be barrels I'm not sure why but a barrel is good shape for them

Shetland Ponies are great little jumpers. They have good ground manners and are the best trail ponies. They are a sturdy breed, great with small children and are the ideal breed to have in riding schools. Shetland Ponies can have a volatile temperament. They are prone to laminitis and are very cheeky little characters. They will buck, as they are stubborn little ponies, so expect some bucking from them. You must earn their trust. Shetland Ponies are very hairy. They have a thick mane and have a not entirely amusing mischievous streak. They have a competitive streak and actually enjoy the holidays.

Or do they like the holidays that involve special foods like Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, or Christmas? Are they partial to relaxing on the beach during spring break? I would imagine holidays with fireworks are only fun for humans. (Disclaimer: the choice of holidays where you live may vary.) :)

Had a welsh pony as a small child. She was super cute. Rode her as was taking lessons on big horses at my trainers barn. One day in the ring she kicked my trainer's show jumping mare. Didn't hurt her but boy was my trainer done with ponies. My vet bought her for his son and I got a free lease on one of my trainer's older horses who was 17.1hh. Big change from a 10hh pony to 17hh. But the horse was always quiet and well behaved.
I was their at the show!! It was an amazing night!

Omg This is literally the most hilarious and adorable video I have ever seen. That looks like so much fun, and the poor kid at the start would have been me. I love horses but I was not meant to be a jockey because I get scared by catering. Yeah. I know, I have never galloped a horse in my life, crazy but absolutely true. The only shetland I saw is the palomino in pink. The others are crossed.

I've got to say that kids this age would be better off riding their ponies for fun rather than in competition. I got my first pony at age 6 and never had to endure parental pressure to compete and win, thank goodness!
Oh for goodness sake, it's not a real 'competition', it's more of a display, although the children do have to qualify to be allowed to do it. The Shetland Grand National is an organisation to raise money for charity and runs at various venues throughout the year with the final at Olympia Horse Show at Christmas. The children are doing it for fun, it doesn't really matter who wins as long as money is raised for good causes such as Great Ormond street Children's Hospital.
I couldn't stop laughing when they started racing. what a cool race.

You're looking at a little kid in a competition in a big arena being watched by thousands of people, maybe, just maybe she was a little scared, nervous, overwhelmed by everything to smile, she probably didn't even take in that she won until later when it all sunk in. But fine, judge her because she didn't smile and that she didn't pat her pony right after she won, because we literally just saw the last 10 seconds after the race finished and maybe she smiled 12 seconds after we will never know because we were not there -.-'
