That male interviewer comes across as so smug. His posture and facial expressions are not good. He's leaning back in his chair as if he's so tired and can't be bothered. But that sort of arrogant look on his face is hard to stomach, as well as that tone of voice.
We did 25 years and then new station management demanded creative and editorial control, so we packed up and moved out. Much of he show's extensive archive is here online at theatertalk.org and otherwide living in drives in a cabinet. As for co-host Riedel, he had moved on, even before we ended production and is now espousing his right-wing political views somewhere on drive-time radio.
Thanks so much for sharing this! I'm reading Mr. Simon's book Rewrites, and I absolutely love it! Whether you're a fan of the theatre or not, I highly recommend it:)
In the 1982 movie, "My Favorite Year," (produced by Mel Brooks, a fellow writer with Simon on "Your Show of Shows" w/ Sid Caesar), the "silent" writer in the movie was a portrait of Neil Simon.

You are so correct. See my comments
This was the first and only book that made me cry ....The love for his first wife bleeds in the book
July,2027 will mark Neil Simon's 100th birthday.

This guy is a rude interviewer. He's bold, loud and obnoxious. Another interview with Tony Randell he pointed out his "jowels". Rude
Agreed. Haha. I haven't seen that interview. Jowels. Lol
i love simon and i love all his plays.
Neil Simon on Theater Talk, the best!
this male interviewer is like a bad SNL sketch. So smug.
He is amazing
Neil Simon would only live 21 more years after this interview.
Interviewer is pretentious.
Yup
@@theatertalkWhen will this show be revived, with or without the smug Michael Reidell.

Interesting interview to hear Mr. Simon. I did not know he was so talented and diverse.
RIP
Not so much an interview; more an interrogation, with some anti-deference and smart aleck thrown in for good measure.
