Well it started perfect for me. Kinda lucky. Getting stuff learned at CG Spectrum classes and learning alot here too. Simple is a must at start and Mike nails it.Love it
In all honesty, this is the greatest UA-cam channel I've found. Some stuff my professors run through really fast or just skip over... You explain it in just digestible pieces.
I AM SO STOKED that you started this series. I bought the latest version of zBrush last year. A hefty investment $$$. Still learning. So, I'm happy that you posted this so I can learn much faster.
Good video! Few things though: 1. Sculpting in Perspective mode is generally not a good idea 2. I would recommend dynameshing before applying any deformation effects I'm really glad you covered the focal shift though, that's something that a lot of beginners commonly forget about when working with alphas.
Mike, i loved the video, it was very usefull and you really helped my doing a writing thing, that i coudn't to it with brushes and pen with any efert i did.
As always Mike, you are THE man! Simple, straightforward and clear as a bell to follow! Just starting out with ZBrush and it’s amazing so thanks again!! 👍😊👍
Thanks for your tutorials. Im learning sculpting with 3D software and so I searched some brushes but they are outrageously expensive $290 for a collection of a single subject (human skin) $2900 for all the subjects, its just obscene. I get that people have to make money in some way but I hate overzealous artists, Im going to make some skin alphas and then brushes, I will try to make the best alphas and brushes possible even if I have to 3D scan skin and objects with a microscope and laboriously sculpt realistic geometry to bake the mesh and Alphas. Then I will give them away for free or very little money, now I have a -purpose- hobby and it shall be fulfilled.
Awesome awesome tutorial ! Exactly what I was looking for!! Answered everything from photoshop creation to final result!! I was going mad trying to figure this out !!
What is the best way to separate the 3d relief from the square box? I have tried to draw a rectangular mask before but its not accurate enough. Is there a masking feature I am missing or something with layers that makes selection easier?
Nice video Mike. But where can I put the settings the way you use them? I am completely new to ZBrush and cannot find the settings as you use them in this video. I would like to see your reaction so that I can more easily follow your videos. Regards, Fred
Hey this is great! When you said pull and stop (5:10), how did you get your brush not to just tap 1 mark down? How did you get it to resize so smoothly? Thanks :)
Im really having a rough time. trying to put Celtic knot symbol on legs of modeled wooden table. Not coming out at all like urs and doesn't even look like its laying on top of the already textured wood legs. Really could use some help. I went to google images, grab a row of celtic knots, changed the direction. Right off had issues. Yours you hit control I to invert. But mine never did that.
I think it would be better if you just mention who had created that free alpha. I think to mention the guys who creating free stuffs is the least job that anyone can do. And thanks a lot for tutorial !
excellent one but I have doubt, how to drag the alpha when it's not correctly positioning? it means before leaving I want just move that alpha around mesh? how to do it? and one more doubt, how to subtract?
Just got ZBrush 2018 and looking to start from ground zero level in ZBrush... do you have some basic level tutorial available on genera linterface, etc.? For older versions perhaps? Would they be much difference than ZB2018? Thank you ahead!
Hi. Can you help me? When I create detail on one side, detail automatically appears on opposide side, but one side is Zadd (detail is convex) and second side is Zsub (detail is concave). What's wrong? How to create detail on only one side, or detail was the same on both sides?
Great tutorial :). I have a quick Question. I want to take my model and actually be able to raise it and move it on my Sphere where I can dublicate it(trying to make a robotic foot). Im using my MRGBZGrabber but it doesnt seem to work. Is there a tutorial video that you have that can explain this process?? thank again :)
Awesome tutorial! Wish these beginner series were around when I 1st started learning ZBrush.
Henry thank you so much ! This means the world to me coming from a ZBrush master like yourself. I am honored

Mike Hermes :
If you are doing high quality alphas, use 16-32bit .psd files, zbrush reads psd files perfectly
Got it, thanks
