Rick deciding life and death decisions isn’t the same as Carol executing two people without letting anyone else know.

Karen and David were seperated from everybody else and locked up...
She only felt the need to justify her actions.
Rick was conflicted the whole episode, you can see him judging everything she says and does.
He isn't wrong for his decision, but that doesn't make him entirely right...
It's a tough situation, and you know the show is handling it well when it makes you feel like that 🤣
Regardless, I'm looking forward to next episode man!

The title of the episode, "Indifference", refers to how Carol has become indifferent to survivors dying and the general situation they are all in, becoming cold and doing whatever she feels is needed to survive, as seen when she murdered Karen and David.

Carol has adapted. She is willing to do anything it takes to protect the prison. Rick embraced that in season 3, but Carl's damaged moral compass and Hershel's advice has swayed him, he wants to reject the violence and he has good reasoning, but it's not logical in a zombie apocalypse.

My thoughts on this is Rick did the right thing and I think he was also trying to protect Carol. What she did was wrong and her acting coldly about it made Ricks mind up! Imagine if she had that attitude with Tyrees. He sent her away to show she went about it in the wrong way and also to protect her from others reactions! He knows she’s tough and will probably be fine on her own 🤷🏽‍♀️

Carol did the same thing the Army did to the people in the hospital at the beginning of this series. The Army believed the people were carriers of the virus so they shot them down in cold blood. Carol essentially did the same thing and acted indifferent about it. Rick's reasons were valid for kicking her out because 1. He believed Tyreese would kill her, 2. She killed two people from Woodbury who already dealt with a murderous leader so they wouldn't feel safe with her there, and 3. He doesn't know if he's dealing with another Shane and that this could be a reoccurring theme for Carol.
Rick doing this teaches Carol a lesson, what she did was not ok, and I think she will learn from this. Rick taking her on this run was a way to sus out Carol's state of mind after what she did, and her justifying her actions and acting like "it is what it is" didn't help her case. Even though Rick was conflicted in this episode, I believe what did it for him was when Carol sent those two newbies out to search for supplies. She knew they wouldn't survive it. Those two were locked in a bathroom for two days because of one walker roaming through the house. Rick knew what she was doing and it was very calculated.

As far as if Rick did the right thing-yes. Maybe he should have talked with others on the council first but Carol was in the wrong to do what she did. She did not know if their condition was worse or just a cough. I get it that she don't want to take chances on anyone anymore but that was not her decision to make. Cause if Judith started coughing, who is to say she would not kill the baby???

lori was there when rick made bad decisions. that’s why he stopped seeing her after bringing the ppl of woodbury to the prison. she was basically a manifestation of his guilty conscience. at least that’s what i think lmao. as for carol rick did the right thing she’d be more in danger if ppl found out, he can’t protect her from that. you can tell it wasn’t easy for him to do as he kept looking out the mirror as if he was waiting to see her driving behind him. i don’t think that they had time to deliberate the whole carol thing not w the sickness going around. best to take advantage while ty was away. rick realized carol had become cold after she told the couple to help them. knowing that they couldn’t even handle one walker. it reflects how she felt abt karen & david.

My thoughts too about Rick seeing Lori. I think it's funny that Daniel has such a positive read on that particular hallucination. But then I never understood what the heck Lori was doing half the time, lol. She was never a favorite of mine.

How would you allow yourself and family to go to sleep in the same place with someone that you know has been proven to kill members that She decides on her own to take you out in your sleep... You Can't!...
There is No other option that can work... isolating them as suggested from the others will Not work, that doesn't work for Carol or for anyone else...This would also cause disagreements, arguments and fighting among the members of the group...
Rick did the only Option that will work, problem solved and everyone can sleep without fear 👍😎

So you would want someone in your group that killed your people like this? I love Carol, but I can see why Rick doesn't trust her. She went too far to 'protect' the people, the same thing Shane did. If he learned anything from Shane it was that people who have no limits on what they do to 'protect' a certain group of people are dangerous to the WHOLE group. Carol would not have killed the sick person if that person was Daryl.

    • @marthapackard8649
      @marthapackard8649 Рік тому +11

Agreed. I doubt that she would have killed any of the people in her original group, and that's a problem. Karen and David didn't have an emotional connection to her so they were disposable in Carol's better-safe-than-sorry outlook. I suspect that the new people would all feel like they were walking on eggs in the group. There would definitely be dissent and lack of trust.

I'm afraid Rick was totally right. The decision had to be made quickly, because this was not a time of peace. The prison population was infected and they didn't know how to stop the disease and how many of them will survive it. It was such a mess and Carol, sadly, was making it worse. Blaming Rick for ricktatorship (when she was making fatal decisions without consulting anyone) or for shane (when she knew very well it was self defense) was not fair. But what surprised me the most was your comment that "if Rick wants to lead this group, he has to prove them..." he never wanted to be a leader, never wanted it for himself. He was simply making decisions when no one else had guts or wisdom or will to make them. He always had that wisdom and empathy. And that's what he was showing now.

But it doesn’t matter what she felt. She clearly didn’t stop it, and if daryl got sick first? Or Rick? It’s disgusting that bc she didn’t know them well she thought it was ok to kill them in cold blood. I don’t get how anyone can defend her. If it was daryl who had been murdered in the same way for the same reason would you be saying his killer might’ve done the right thing?

    • @DanReadd
      @DanReadd  Рік тому +8

I clearly say I didn’t agree with her decision! 😊 - I just don’t see the decision as completely black or white from her perspective. My concern is more with Ricks decision on how to deal with it. Also, I definitely am not using the term “right” here. Like we’re far beyond such distinctions between what’s morally right and wrong (sadly). The harder things get, the bigger gambled people feel they need to make 🤷‍♂️

Just a friendly reminder please refrain from any and all types of spoilers.
This is Dan's first time watching TWD, and i know all of you here love his reactions, as do I. So please let's not spoil anything for him.
Even things as simple as im excited for this episode, season, character, or this is what happened in the comic are all spoilers.
So if you find that your comment has been deleted that is probably why.
Thank you all for watching and supporting Dan on his Walking Dead journey!

Your reaction to this episode didn't disappoint! It's complicated, this situation with Carol having killed Karen and David. It's a real dilemma. As it is also for Rick at this point. As a leader, what should he now do, knowing what Carol has done? This episode made a lot of people mad, when it first was televised! I agree with a lot of what you said. There were alternative choices that could've been made. I also like your description of Rick
VS. Ricktator. Rick does have different sides to him. Stay tuned! I appreciate the time that you must spend editing and putting these videos together. See you in the next episode! 👍

Also, Carol is actually part of the council so it should have been her that called a council meeting on a decision to kill Karen and David, her taking it into her own hands shows that she never respected them. How can Rick call a council meeting when he has to make a decision before Tyreese gets back? Glenn and Sasha are sick, Hershel is trying to keep several people alive, and Michonne and Daryl are on a run with Tyreese. His stepping back in as the leader while the council is indisposed was the right thing to do.

I think Rick was right to banish her. There needs to be consequences for killing. Especially that she didn't even talk to anyone else about it, and didn't confess to it until questioned

  • @sallyatticum
    @sallyatticum Рік тому +4

Most people think Rick was right to unilaterally decide to banish Carol and send her off *all by herself.* I disagree. I figured you would, too. I don't believe he was right that all of the others would not want her there if they knew what she did. I think if he was going to banish her, other people had the right to know about it and to decide if they wanted to go with her.
They live in a PRISON. He could have locked her up away from everyone else while they debated what was the appropriate response.
The actor you recognize is Robin Lord Taylor. He was Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin in Gotham. And he was in You. That's all I know him from.

Hi all, as another Mod posted a bit ago please do not post if you are saying things like you cant wait for Dan to get to this season/episodes that is very much a spoiler in a way.
Also please do not write quotes that have been said in future episodes that can lead to any kind of spoiler.
    It is still a spoiler.
Any type of spoiler will be deleted.
Little things like that can effect his reactions in the future.
Dan does enjoy engaging with everyone in the comments and we dont want him to come across a spoiler.

    Hello 👋
    Another awesome video, 👍👍
I personally feel that Carol went to far considering Karen and David were already locked in a more stricter quarantined area, so there was no reason for her to worry about it if they did turn, she should have brought the subject up in a counsel meeting to see if anyone else felt the same, which I do not feel they would, 😏👍
Rick making the decision was wrong and should have definitely been up to the council, he could have as you said locked her up and throw in a guard, just in case Tyrese was unable to control himself, 👍👍
Have a safe and wonderful rest of your week, 👋😀👋

Great conflicting reaction. Its "Tyrese", not 'Tyrell'.
Myself and company when we first watched this episode were conflicted too, but felt that Carol went too far and tried justifying it, because she isn't God and doesn't know whether Karen & David weren't going to make it and she ended up playing God & Jury. We were a bit angry, but could see Rick's point of view too. Daniel just like you're so angry and felt Rick should have called a meeting with the Counsel, you're contradicting yourself, don't you think Carol should have done that first too?

As messed up as Carols logic is, I do not agree with it but I understand it, she in her mind thought she could protect everyone just by sacrificing two people she was holding on hope that it was only those two who were sick and she wanted to try and stop it before it got worse. She regrets it but doesn’t want to feel it so she goes cold and shows no remorse in order to protect herself.

This is the way I see the Bob/alcohol situation:
I understand your empathy for him. Truly. But for me personally, as someone who struggles with alcoholism, I don’t feel bad for him at all. Everyone in that prison has seen or done things that keeps them up at night. Everyone. It sounds like I’m being a hardass but he needs to suck it up and deal with it just like everyone else does. WITHOUT using an unhealthy coping mechanism that can put people in danger, and without switching their lives for a bottle of fucking booze.

I disagree with you . Although I respect your opinion. Carol could have confessed what she did when Tyrese attacked Rick and Daryl . But she didn't . She is also the same person training kids to lose weapons and didn't tell there parents also told Carl to lie to his father. Also David&Karen was isolated. We don't even know if they just had allergies or simple cold. What sealed the deal is the too young couple and Carol's coldness. That got them killed. Do you really believe that Tyrese would be okay with everything after what we saw. Rick hated to do that and was very conflicted. Carol is still one of my favorites. Rick is not the governor.

    • @DanReadd

I wasn’t saying Carol should be forgiven or treated as if she’d done nothing. Not at all. What I said was, there should have been deliberation on how to deal with her (consequences etc…), and we could have given her said consequences in a much more humane way. Rick banishing her like so is potentially life threatening for Carol, and morally damaging to those in the group who probably would have sought some kind of deliberation in the matter.
As I said, I don’t agree with Carol AT ALL, but nor do I agree with the way Rick chose to deal with it!
I don’t believe we should live with murderers, but with that logic, Rick and Carl wouldn’t be safe from banishment. It’s not always black and white!!!
