Absolutely uncanny. Incredible how spot on this is. Guitar tone, vocals, even the drum programing sounds right off the SH album. Mans should be hella proud of himself for this!!
Tyler Braun Thanks! Absolutely LOVE the Apocalypse set! One of my favorite pickups ever. Lundgren Black Heaven are the only other set that compares. Just the right amount of output, along with incredible clarity. Love them.
top notch cover my man! I love your vocals, you sound just like chuck from the original recording. and you fucking nailed the solo too! keep up the great work!
I learned to play this at 15 but never could nail that solo. Excellent work, man. Such a good job. I had to move on to hardcore punk. I took after Drew Speziale (CTTS) after those years. That's about as technical as I could get.
Thanks man! Yeah I first learned this song probably around the same age. I used to sit and play along to the entire album, front to back. Such a great album!
Amazing! Been stumbling around on your tube now. In total awe of your delivery and ability. Hope to see Darkened some time live. Hopefully in Bergen ;)
Leiv Reed Thank you man, much appreciated! I don't know if Darkened will ever make it onto a stage, but that would cool! I would love to play in Norway!
Great work! You nailed this one and I like the fact that you made it without the intention of a carbon copy of the original. You should post more often
Yeah, I can do his style pretty well too. Several of those old-school DM vocalists all used essentially the same technique. Schuldiner, Van Drunen, Mameli, Tardy, Lemay, Hoffmann, Karki, Otero, they all put some "voice" into their vocals. I love that sound!
Eric Labrek Mostly just laziness lol. This whole recording happened pretty quickly, my 8100 isn't readily available atm, and the 6505 was already set up, and was sounding good so I just went with it. Plus, Chuck wasn't using the 8100 yet at that point, I figured no biggie. I'll do some recording with it one of these days!
Killer work dude! I'm a big fan of your Flattening of Emotions cover on Hive of Mutation. Does this mean we can expect a Demisery album with this cover on it?
Me and Keith are planning something, we both want to make a new Demisery album. Probably won't have another Death cover though, we'll do something else!
@@GordOlson nice to hear! a question, do you have keith's original album tracking videos? they inspired me so much at the time! i think he pulled them from the channel due to endorsement reasons (i think he used his BRJs at the time)
1:00 - 1:05 Sir, you have done the closest-sounding cover to the original masterpiece I have done almost everything to my larynx but still wasn't successful in performing the sound that you've unleashed in the given duration, I'm begging you, please teach me in detail about how should i do it. So far, I only know that it's a multi-layered vocal technique, but i cannot discover them separately, can you please provide us a few seconds instructional video on how to do it ?
Thanks for the kind words! To be honest, I'm not entirely sure what's going on in those spots on the original recording! To me it sounds like there might be an effect on the voice, and I've never heard Chuck make that sound anywhere else, so I think that might be what they did. For me, I was able to recreate it with just a single voice by tightening my throat a lot and singing with kind of a higher tone, almost a black metal type of voice, and afterwards I added a flanger effect with a slow speed, and 100% mix just on those words "deny" and "existing", to give it that 'sweeping' effect, and the end result sounds quite similar, I think.
I've not used a PG58, but I've used SM58 mics a lot (and I guess they sound very similar). And although I would say that the SM7B is definitely a cleaner sounding mic, it's not drastically different sounding than the SM58. Totally possible to get great vocal tracks with an SM58, lots of great albums were recorded that way. The SM7B also requires a ton of clean gain, like 60dB minimum, and some interfaces won't provide enough headroom for it, whereas you'll definitely be fine with the SM (or PG) 58
Thanks! That's actually untrue about the vocals though. It just takes a while for your ear to get used to it. The more you listen to death metal, the more you will start to hear the differences between singers. I can instantly identify all of my favorite DM vocalists by different nuances that they exhibit.
Absolutely uncanny. Incredible how spot on this is. Guitar tone, vocals, even the drum programing sounds right off the SH album. Mans should be hella proud of himself for this!!
Thank you!!
Dude, killer vocals and solo work.
Chuck would be proud...

Great job of my fave track off that album

One of the best covers i've ever seen, good work man!!

Killing it w/ this one. Very well played. More vox!
Great performance!
great cover from the best death metal album ever recorded!
Thanks! I don't think I can name any one album as the best DM album ever, but Spiritual is definitely up there in my top 5!
Sounds insane!
Awesome man! Everything is spot on. Vocals sound killer!!
Thanks Matt! That's much appreciated coming from you. Cheers dude!
PERFECT, man! Really nice work on everything!
Spiritual Healing is my favorite Death Metal album of all time!

Huge fan of your vocals, hope to hear some new Demisery someday.
Thanks man! You will... someday...
im sure Chuck approves from the sky
Sounds sick, man! Your voice is perfect for old school DM.
Jordan Guthrie Thanks Jordan!
Das ist nahezu perfekt.
Man that is amazing! Sounds so good.
Your vocals remind me more of the guy from Obituary. You two have the same timbre in your voices.
Yeah, I can do his style pretty well too. Several of those old-school DM vocalists all used essentially the same technique. Schuldiner, Van Drunen, Mameli, Tardy, Lemay, Hoffmann, Karki, Otero, they all put some "voice" into their vocals. I love that sound!

metalvocalistwanted Thanks a lot man!
Death metal classic
Great work. Respect to you, mate.
Thanks!
Amazing as always man 🤘
What a cover lad
Awesome cover dude 👍🏻
Brutal !!!😊
Great cover 🤘
Very zaebis
Most talented musician on youtube. We need more from you and less... stupid metal-related comedy videos.
Man, that's a far higher compliment than I deserve, but thanks! I do agree about the comedy metal vids though... I hate that stuff too!
Gord Damn. Nice
nice cover. by the way why is the guitar's color different?
Thanks. I customized the guitar with different pickups, and a vinyl skin that I had custom made.
Fuck yeah! Death Forever!!!
Woaw great tone man ! How do you set your amp ? I Really search a tone like that
i know im late to the party but, this is rad...
Fucking stellar brother!
Thanks!!
Good cover!!! nice vocal!
Fucking sick brother
Gggooooooooodd man
Nice job
Thanks!

No, I just learned it by ear. No tabs.

Kurva jó! :)
Sounds awesome!! That's a moded Cygnus???
Thanks! Yeah a Cygnus with Schecter Apocalypse pickups. Great combo!
"with Schecter Apocalypse USA Pickups"
Can u pls send me the tabs for the solo.pls pls pls
I don't have any tabs for this. I very rarely ever tab stuff out, it takes too long. I just learned this song by ear.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Norway? what band are you playing in?
No, I'm in Canada. I play in Ye Goat-Herd Gods, Divinity, Demisery, and just recorded vocals for a new band called Darkened.
Охуенно!
Is that an SM7 vocal mic?
Ian Waye Yeah. Well, SM7B.
@@GordOlson How do you find them in comparison to tracking vocals with a PG58 (with a pop filter, obviously)?
I've not used a PG58, but I've used SM58 mics a lot (and I guess they sound very similar).
