    Great video, think I will stick with the D500 & maybe add a D850 to the line up rather than Z9 or Z8 to work with my 500mm F4. Thanks for making the video

      Thanks 😊. It is a great choice if your lens is fine-tuned with your camera and if you do not do lots of videos. Also, it will save you some $$$, I bought a used 800mm f5.6e fl for the price of the z8 🤗, and I made a video about it recently. The headache with lens fine-tuning was the main reason I got a mirrorless camera. About the subject detection, I am not sure anymore. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it makes things worse. And buy the way, mirrorless cameras are very stubborn 😣. When it finds the subject, then it sticks with it too well. The problem is, in a busy background and foreground, now you want to focus on something not in that focus plan but in the foreground. Dslr will switch to your new subject while the mirrorless camera will be stuck on your previous focal plan. I often end up focusing manually (loose lots of time and miss the shot) or use a focus recall button, only possible if the lens has one. Sometimes, this crazy idea of selling the Z9 and getting a second d850 or d5 or d6 pass my mind, but I did not do it yet.

      @@hajakelyphoto Thanks for that further information, it’s nice to have a balanced view.. most you tube channels only talk about the benefits of mirrorless & with speed of focus and subject detection. ( it’s almost like they are sponsored 😆🤦‍♂️) I have no interest in video and like seeing the bird or animal rather than a digital image.. You’ve confirmed I’m better sticking to my D500 D4S and maybe ad a D850.. thank you again 👍👍👍

      You are welcome. In my opinion, a Camera is just a tool, it is ok as long as it gets the job done. Happy shooting 📸🦜

    How is the video autofocus with Z9 + the 500mm f4 ?
    Does it hunt for focus in video ?

    • @hajakelyphoto
      @hajakelyphoto  3 місяці тому +1

      It does not. Only Nikon Dslr cameras hunt through the recording. Even my Z30 does not hunt like the dslr because of the difference in autofocus system.

      @@hajakelyphoto ok thank you. One more thing I own the Z8+400mm F4.5 lens. I am thinking of switching the 400mm f4.5 with a used 500mm F4E FL EF + FTZ for 1686 USD.
      Will it be worth it ?
      I shoot mainly Mammals/Bigcats here in India, so I want a bit more background separation and a bit more reach.
      I cannot afford the Z or F series primes brand new. And only the 500mm is available in used condition (2.2 years old).

      I do not own the 500mm fl, I have the older 500mm G. And it is working like a charm. The fl is lighter and sharper than the g according to reviews. Here in Germany a used 500mm Fl is still retailing around 4500€. Those nikon pro prime lenses are excellent, they will provide for a life time. You will not regret getting one.

    I do have that very same lens, that I also planning on use on a Z body of some sort, right now I'm using it on a D850. Any advise?

      One big advantage of z cameras is that you do not need to do any autofocus fine tuning. I do not have the z7 / z6 but on the z9 it works great. Especially if you use tc often like me. If you can afford it it, get the z9. If you get the z9, read the full manual thoroughly. Watch lots of youtube about the camera. I find the learning curve moving from d850 to z9 quite steep but it is worth it.
      There is also a rumour that nikon will announce a new camera on the 25th of this month. It could be the long waited z8. However, bear in mind you may have to pre order and if there is a long waiting list, you may not get your order before several months.
