I Appreciate the heads up on this. Got my boys a power wheels for $6 at a garage sale that didn't have a battery anymore. Got some old screw guns gonna do the same thing now ❤ 🙏😇💪😎👍🌄☯️♾️🕉
Get ready to start breaking parts and burning up motors. I have been fighting to keep my daughters running for the last year breaks every few weeks. Mainly gear gears in the gear box.
That's a clean install. I did this for my kids with a dewalt adapter, I would recommend installing a DC-DC adjustable voltage regulator to bring the 18v down to around 14v so you don't burn up the 12v motor. You also have to be careful with the dewalt batteries as they do not have a low voltage disconnect circuit built in and they will not recharge if you let them get to low.
Yes agreed, I should have used this regulator if I knew about it. I used the adapter on a broken Dewalt drill + battery on one of these power wheels and I ended up burning up one of the motors on it...
was gonna buy a whole new battery but came across this video, gonna check the hardware stores today for your recommended supplies, i already have the rigid battery, gonna try your method! , great video!
Kids gonna love the power wheels again. I did the same for my daughter with the Craftsman version. Give her more driving time then the OG battery ever did and charges faster.
We have a hilly gravel drive and those plastic wheels get no traction. I found a bike tire on sale so I cut it in half and screwed it to the back wheels and it’s awesome! Has great traction now😁👌
I tried this with my kobalt 24v to my kids power wheels. Blows the 30a fuse everytime. Did you have to use a step down 18v to 12v for your kids power wheels?
That’s so cool!!! It just reminds me of how many of those toys I pass up on side of the road that could be fixed !!! Thanks man!!! I’m going to keep an eye out!!👍🏻
Should keep cheap upgrading the Power Wheels as the kids grow up and slowly turn it into a battery go-kart! Helps teach the kids essential skills and is SUPER fun!
Have you ever changed the motors? I saw you ride it and was impressed. Wasn’t sure if that was the original motors or if the better battery just helped out?
I am doing a project with battery operated toy vehicles just simply trying to make it go a little faster wont 12v to 18v burnout the toy radio in the vehicle ?
tried this for our daughters' power wheels and it was working fine for a day and the next day it doesn't want to run anymore, any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated 🙏🏻
I got a power wheel on market place. I can't tell if its a power wheel or a knock off. Can all of em take that battery or how can I tell if mine is genuine or not...or does it even matter?
There's a huge community of people in the power wheel groups. I'm sure there's crazier builds. I followed a little. My son's has the Lighting McQueen and I upgraded his 6v to 12 lead acid battery. It was plenty of power. I heard you can even go to 36v safely.
I got the SafeAMP Wire Harness Connector and a dewalt adapter for my 18v dewalt battaeries but its slower than the 12v. Both the adapter and the harnes connector have fuses. Could that why its not performing?
I did this and my milwaukee 18v battery died within a minute and it was fully charged! is there another 18v battery i can buy for this that will last longer?
@@eazyd1983 you take a jumper cable preferably a 12 gauge and jump the positive terminal to a positive spot on the battery and the negative plug to a ground and it’ll jump it just enough to charge

@@juanmaldonado817 like voltage controller of sorts. I bought three that look like a small square box with a heat sink on the end and a knob on the other end. These motors were designed for 6-12 volts. I’ve been throwing 20v at them and so far they’ve held up but the batteries can’t handle the draw and heat up
@@juanmaldonado817 what is your volts setting? I haven’t had a chance to install or set mines up yet. Doing other projects at the moment. The amp draw might be too high. I’ve notice kids are not consistent with the peddle causing multiple surge draws in a very short period of time (stop, go stop go and so on). Might be best to have two batts in parallel.
@@gmax341 well iv seen that if i use my milwalke bat the voltage cut off will cut the batt at 12v but iv notice that a lot of people are using 2 batts , i think ill do that to
Great fathers like these are what makes the difference.
Thanks for sharing this precious moment with us! I hope all is well with your family!
The smiles on the kiddos is all worth it! Be blessed and prayers to your wife and the baby.
Having your boy do things with you is how you make a man. Good job.
Thanks for the great video! You seem like a great father who's raising some great kids. Rock on, man!

That is so cool. I'm going to get 3 of those adaptors for my grandsons rides, if they make them in Dewalt.
They do.

Had to clarify that it wasn’t his idea to let all three on such a dad move especially in front of mom 🤣🤣🤣 such a cool dad man !!!
Can it damage the motor if you put higher voltage battery?
I think you can, that's what puts me off
Won't this over power and over heat the motor and wiring?
very cool video! I have a little man too and not going to lie the battery stuff was very informative but watching you guys having fun was awesome!

Sprayed some flex seal on the plastic wheel.... gription!!
Awesome ‘ looking to do this mod , did your electronics hold up fine with this battery upgrade ? Is it still working ?
Did you change your 12v controller
Is this setup for all power wheels or does it vary
I’m so glad that connectors only have 2 genders.. it makes things so simple

Could I get this stuff at Walmart, Lowe’s, harbor freight, or something like that?

Good morning. How do we do it if the car has two 6 volt motors. Thank you
Did you change the gearbox for the same voltage?

Does this can work with 4Ah 40 V ryobi battery ?
For a couple of minutes maybe. Then those 12 motors are going to burn out.
As a father of a 7 year old I was waiting for the “why?” After the male/female connector lesson 😂
this is exactly what i needed. thanks bud!

I did the ryobi verson and it keeps blowing fuses
Its not gunna last long feeding that 12v dc motor almost double the voltage… you need a step down buck converter to regulate the voltage at 12
Yeah this is what am i thi king too
I’m doing this now how do I wire in buck converter with low voltage detector and voltage controller

Very nice! Do I need a 9ah 18v battery to do the upgrade or would a 6ah work? I found some 6ah 20v batteries for sale just wondering. Thanks
Ah (Amp hours) just tells you how long the battery will last. 6ah will work but won't last as long as 9ah before needing recharged.
My upgrades were working but all of the sudden my 30 amp fuses are are blowing in all four power wheel cars. Any idea what could be causing this?
Yea the fuses are wearing down

Where can I find this battery adapter please o. Linke

Where do you buy the battery
Would I be able to keep the stock controller?
No, if you do you will blow the motors

I did this and my milwaukee 18v battery died within a minute and it was fully charged! is there another 18v battery i can buy for this that will last longer?
Don’t connect directly the 18v. You’ll need this PWM DC Motor Speed Controller Switch 30A. Hope this helps.
I learned the hard way that's exactly what I did I didn't know
This does help, thank you. Another forum recommended the same. What volt setting should it be set to? 18v?

Awesome Build! Quick question, will 18v burn out the stock speed controller or can it handle it?
Eventually the motors will go but idk what would first , motors or wheels, however parts for these are cheap
Will this work with my sons bentley mulsanne 12volt ? If i send you the specs could you direct me please 🙏🏾
Definitely go DeWalt with the 15 amp hour battery
a regular , small angle adapter would work better...i use mine all the time

And burn it up.we did it 20 years ago.fast for awhile
i do same but with dc to dc 18 to 14v to protect motore
Does it still run?
Excellent
Looks awesome. Just make sure the battery doesn't drain too low or it won't charge back up unless u jump start it with another battery

How long is the battery life?
Won't the motors burn out?
Those 9AH octane batteries are rare commodity these days
