One of Northern England's most depressing looking neighbourhoods hosts this Street. Britian's worst? Comined Sefton/ Wirral/ Knowsley/ Kirkdale zone.
You make a perfectly good point of course Chris. But say the Government spent loads of money doing up derelict houses in these neighbourhoods then filled them with homeless people, there would still be no reasonably paid jobs for these new residents to do. So fine, they’ve finally got a roof over their head but no income to go with it. So they won’t be able to pay any rent, they won’t be able to afford to maintain the houses and the neighbourhood would turn into a dive again.
Nice to see a complete lack of morality, economic nous and actual understanding of how things work in life here. Put your MSM media, right wing hate rags down and do some learning and growing people
I was brought up in the North End (Beaufort Rd) a life time ago and walked up and own that street many many times. What I can tell you is that there were plenty of poor families in Birkenhead at that time but most of those windows that are boarded up now would have been washed every other week and the front door steps sand stoned or painted regularly. Looking at this 60 years and 12000 km away now makes me feel sad. Something terribly wrong about it all.
Just an update for you, Thorneycroft Ave now has new builds on it with semis and terraced housing and seems to be fully occupied. Shame to get rid of all the older buildings, but far better that the land is used and people are in houses there than the dereliction. ❤
@@michaelhilton9576 There's a reason for that. We've had the conservatives in power for 13 years and they have done nothing to help anyone. Worst UK government ever.
My friend Christine lived on this street back in the early sixties. I lived on nearby Munster St. across from the pub with my grandparents. This was a posh road in my day.
Was full of hard working families who owned these homes. Unfortunately the council began buying houses and leaving them empty, until eventually everyone sold up and moved away. Some great memories of these streets.
They were all private houses, occupied by good decent hard working people, in fact the Mayor and Mayoress of the late 60's lived there. The houses were all well kept. They have been demolished for redevelopment with the surrounding streets, it's a shame they had to come down.
Street now called thornycroft avenue, all redeveloped semi detached town houses. This was part of inner city redevelopment from last labour government that the Tories couldn't stop. Not a fair representation of how the area now is .
You couldn't be more right, never trust a fella in a suit.Deliberatly left like this,so "mates of mates"can make a killing.Nothing much wrong with those houses, would have been expensive places, and not so long ago.PS.Since when has Birkenhead been part of Litterpool ??
The goverment had a idea to tur it down and make a new estate they rushed the people out them houses an bought them flat rooms in rock ferry and beb they then fucked up and left it for a year but now its a nice estate but it is a little bit scruffy around the area
Hi, I have a question about the footage that I would like to send a private message about? but i dont know how to get in contact with the owner? are you still monitoring this channel? thanks, Paul
Why does it state it's in Birkenhead, LIVERPOOL? Birkenhead comes under Wirral. They dropped all the L postcodes in the late 1990's to CH. My experience has always been that Wirral doesn't want to be associated with Liverpool.
Completely opposite experience here. Most people were furious when they got rid of the L postcode. To people here, Liverpool is more accessible than anywhere else. It would take less than ten minutes to get into the city, and they probably live closer to The Pier Head than 90% of Liverpool residents.
Just come to Burngreave if you think this is bad. On my way to work (I work in a hospital) a had to drive though a certain area because of road repairs going on in my usual route. I was almost sick to my stomach. It smelt of open rubbish bins, there were boarded up windows on the houses, with weed weaving its way around the house. Shopping trolleys jammed into the doors, run down, boarded up steel factories everywhere, and even a metal door with red stains on the floor below it and around it. I felt like I was in the slumming areas during the Industrial Revolution.
Same in Manchester what's it going to be like in another few years getting worse the hole time people don't even bother reporting crimes anymore it's waste time
Also.. the towns surrounding Manchester are pretty bleak so it's like the people there are relieved to no longer be in Oldham and Burnely. Little victories and a football club based on honouring the devil
Those are not new builds. Some of them look like Victorian terraces. They are probably sound structurally. They just need doing up and people moving into them who need housing. If only there was money available.
Do a google streetview on this road from 2009. It is a normal prosperous looking road, nice cars lovely houses. The council must have fucked this up royally.
Probably a few good backhanders for someone. Only explanation possible otherwise why not refurbish what's already there. Good solid houses in their day.
+harry mcmillan there are lots of places with lots of blacks in the US that are as bad as this. But generally the US has a much higher standard of living.
the window cleaner don't earn much round there

On a lighter note, the local builders merchants sells a fair bit of wood though.......
@@ToonandBBfan walking pharmacy's are also common.
I don’t understand how their can be so many derelict unused building yet so many homeless people in the country

i remember these houses when i was younger and they were lovely everywhere in Birkenhead was unfortunately the drugs came in the 80s and ruined it all
Christ! hope local window cleaner's got a decent sander
Lol
Absolutely disgusting when you think of the amount of homeless people and the lack of social housing in the UK.
Yep Birkenhead seems to be getting worse for homeless, mental health probs are everywhere in the Wirral.
Absolutely well said !! People freezing on the streets, and there are so many empty houses !
@@michaelhilton9576 There's a reason for that. We've had the conservatives in power for 13 years and they have done nothing to help anyone. Worst UK government ever.
That area is unrecognisable today. That street and 3 or 4 surrounding ones were completely demolished snd rebuilt. Really nice houses there now.
My friend Christine lived on this street back in the early sixties. I lived on nearby Munster St. across from the pub with my grandparents. This was a posh road in my day.

all new houses now . looks lovely .
And they say there is a housing shortage?
This has been deliberately let happen by the councils and their developer pals.
Literally fuck off

Tory bastards
The capping stones on those brick walls are worth some good coin at most salvage sites in Wales along with flagstones 4in tiles and roofing slate.
And by the way people, there's a housing shortage.
What's the story of that street anyway? Why is it so derelict?
The goverment had a idea to tur it down and make a new estate they rushed the people out them houses an bought them flat rooms in rock ferry and beb they then fucked up and left it for a year but now its a nice estate but it is a little bit scruffy around the area
Yep also bookatwating palace could be filled
Why does it say “Birkenhead Liverpool” 🤔
I agree there's a river that separates the town of Birkenhead from Liverpool. And even the postcode went back to CH. From CH43
This street is much better than any street in Boston, Lincolnshire.
Im surprised there's no Americans in the comments saying "Omg that's nothing compared to America"
Boston Sports Rule no it's Americans who always have to find ways to mention there country like any of us give a F about America

this is birkos best street.
How dreadful.

What a bloody waste.
They may have built new houses , but the surrounding areas remain so sad l grow up there ,and it was a more than decent place to live , not today ,!
Not that bad... It is one street... Anfield and L8 are worse.
Why does it state it's in Birkenhead, LIVERPOOL? Birkenhead comes under Wirral. They dropped all the L postcodes in the late 1990's to CH. My experience has always been that Wirral doesn't want to be associated with Liverpool.

If you look at it now 2022 looks an amazing turnaround all brand new houses. Thorneycroft avenue

“I’m fixing a hole where the rain gets in”.
Absolutely stunning 😍
I was brought up in Birkenhead. It was bad then but it has got worse.
That is dire indeed. I couldn't live in such a different place. It's like luxury where I am compared to that.
This is tragically so sad 😞
There was me thinking Great Yarmouth was a dump
So happy I left the North End in 1984. I was an addict but came to hertfordshire. If I didn't I'd be dead now
Cheaper to tear it down than renovate - northern councils. They did the same around Anfield.
Sad cos many people are needing houses to live!
You can see its once been a decent area, just a redevelopement area now!
So depressing 😞
Same in Manchester what's it going to be like in another few years getting worse the hole time people don't even bother reporting crimes anymore it's waste time
reminds me of Manchester. in fact Manchester's worse.
I honestly hate Manchester. The place is a fucking pit and I just cannot see why people keep bleating on about how awesome it is.
It's probably the best city to be an oap in or something..

Manny is fine mate, what area did u visit or live in?
2020 is it still the same?
Has this street been redeveloped yet ?
I’m proud to live in Liverpool I used to live round there but now I live in a big house so it’s sweet
dont look like they need a lot of money to get them habitable ... these local councils dont know shit
Plenty of street parking available which is always good for any potential buyer
Not all places in Liverpool are like this you know
Most of them are,and it's not Liverpool,or Litterpool,as it should be called.
Its not Liverpool it's Birkenhead and full of friendly hard working people.
It looks just like the place I used to live in northeast London (borough of Hackney). Used to hate that place
Such a shame. So much history in Liverpool.
Its not Liverpool.
new houses have been built there now but some of the old council estate is still there .
and I thought Plymouth was bad
Gareth Davies Devon’s nowt compared to this
One time that was a full street. Run down memories

The most recent images are from July 2012 and even then it doesn't look half as bad as this.
Probably a few good backhanders for someone. Only explanation possible otherwise why not refurbish what's already there. Good solid houses in their day.
Britain in a nutshell mate.
We ain't all like this!
I went there once. I'll never forget it.
You weren't mugged while filming this.....Looks like a lovely spot.
Once family homes.....now crack dens. What a great government we have lol.
Smackhead wank shacks is a good description for those slums👍🏿

Welcome to Shangri-la
I used to go for walks down there
Who is a northender
George And games me a proud one
My aunt and cousin stayed in that street.
The window cleaner hands are to Powerful
Sadly near where I lived for most of my life
The UK has many places like this
Absolutely shocking
Don't think anyone from anfield, Walton, Kensington etc can start gettin on there high horse about birkenhead bein a dump
Spot on rawdawg.
There's not much wrong with these house's,they would have been well built when new.Almost certainly the Council "workin a flanker",yet again.
Why doesn't the government tear down the row houses? They're abandoned anyway.
I might move there it looks like a nice and safe area
Yet again councils with no funds , another 2 years they will be ruins
And the council say they are short of houses. The thieving hits don't want to spend a bit of tax payers money to make these habitable
Theres more boards in the windows than cockroaches in the floorboards
Looks like some hood in like philelphia,Chicago or Detroit
Birkenhead isn't in Liverpool
How is there a homeless problem? Plenty of good properties here.
I dont even rekon that's the worst road on the wirral
They need to go to Norris green or seacombe and north seacombe
Lools like a zombie apocalypse has taken place.
Rest of the country will do soon.
its not in Syria?
At least there is sun and olive trees in Syria.
