@@joe5923 true. I seen a comment somewhere saying Wolverine and Morph are bisexual smh I didn’t get that from the episode. People want Wolverine to be gay so bad lmao. Other than the “they” stuff with Morph the shows been good so far so I’ll just ignore that part.
Regarding when Jean is replaced, I think her hair style is an indication, the real Jean always wears a pony tail when in costume but Madelyn let her hair down. You can see that once Jean wakes up a feels Scott is in danger she pulls up her hair and makes a pony tail. At the end of the episode that is how distinguish them both. In the original series, their hair changes in the last season, with the new cheaper episodes showing jean with her hair down which I always thought it was interesting change and maybe more a nod to her comic book counterpart.
I thought the episode was very good but my only little gripe is that the retcon a lot of elements from the previous seasons such as season 3 to season 5. The reason why I say this is because the way that they took this story idea to introduce Madeline Pryor, the mother of cable and basically Jean Gray's clone, is that Jean was replaced during the events of season 2 and that Madeline Pryor was acting out as Jean Grey during the Phoenix Saga and the rest of the way during graduation day episode. Which doesn't make much sense since Sinister would have realized that this was the clone of Jean Grey when apocalypse was in control of the Nexus and had all of the mutant psychics at his disposal to try and control all the reality.
This episode was fantastic! This is exactly want I wanted and so much more! Give me more of this amazing batshit insanity! These are the trippy as hell X-Men stories I've waited so long for! I'm so happy to have these X-Men back as a family because this is what I missed the most! The chaotic energy from the X-Men as they go through hell trying to figure out what the heck is going on. This is exactly what's going to get me tuning in every week for this incredible show! 🌟✨️🎆 10/10 episode!!!
It was a nice touch that during the Jean/Madelyne interface, there are shards of broken glass. At the end of Inferno, once the Goblin Queen is defeated but Jean is still linked to her, Storm, Psylocke & Rogue join the Goblin Queen/Marvel Girl mind link & see a mind scape of glass shards, each one a memory of either Jean or Madelyne (Psylocke is there to link into telepathic bond & Rogue is there incase her experience dealing with multiple personalities when she uses her powers might help Jean deal with what she's experiencing with Madelyne). As each shard is destroyed, Jean loses that memory. Eventually as Madelyne dies & the two have come to some resolution, Jean absorbs both of their memories to fully embrace the role of wife & mother to Scott & Nathan. The name Madelyne Pryor is apparently a little joke of Sinisters, Madelyne as in her "Made her" & Pryor as in she had a prior existance as Jean Grey.
The Bishop-Cyclops combination might be a nod to their fight during Civil War where Bishop is part of the Government trying to capture the remaining mutants after M-Day and Cyclops intercepted him. The fight ended up with Cyclops hitting Bishop with a full blast of his Optic Blast and even asks him how much can he handle. That was an awesome fight.
I might be mis remembering this but when Madelyne and Jean were fighting, Madelyne said "I was the Phoenix" and then Jean says "all you remember is power" or something like that, it made it seem as though Madelyne remembers being the Phoenix, with her encircled with flames, and Jean not having those memories, which would make it likely that Mr Sinister cloned Jean before the Phoenix Saga
This show is so taking me back to early 90s uncanny x-men and early Jim Lee x-men combined. I’m loving this. 👍🏻 I just hope Disney doesn’t fudge it up in the future.
I think that Jean was swapped out in Beyond Good and Evil, however The Phalanx Covenant makes more sense and for these reasons: Apocalypse is "Dead" at this point and wouldn't be able to foresee Sinister's betrayal (assuming this happens in a manner similar to the comics), whereas during Beyond Good and Evil, he controls the Axis of Time for a while. It would've been impossible to hide one's secret intentions if that were the case. So, I'm thinking that you're correct.
The question that needs answering now is when Jean was swapped. Because Jean read Cables mind in the original series and saw that Cable was Cyclops Son through Sinister and saw the virus as well. Will they gloss over that?
Great episode. My only negative for it is the pacing. In the original this would have been a 3 parter. Feels rushed and because of that a few things felt off. Like Madelyne naming herself. Would have been ok had we had a hint that her childhood friend was named Madeylne or something like that, but we didn't. And her naming herself Goblin Queen. Weird. Now, I'm NOT hating. I loved the episode. But criticism isn't hating.
Morph changing to other characters is a way for them to sell more toys! Inferno story arc in the comics is the best. I remember reading it as a teenager.
definitely think Sinister cloned & swapped Jean either before the psychics were freed in the Beyond Good & Evil arc or as you mentioned, during a brief window in the Phalanx Covenant 2-parter also we've met other members of the New Mutants in the original show. Wolfsbane was with the rest of X-Factor in the episode Cold Comfort. Obviously she's likely to remain with that team rather than become a New Mutant in this series but still. And in the episode No Mutant Is An Island, where Scott goes back to his old orphanage after the Phoenix Saga, the young mutants he saves from Kilgrave include Rusty, Skids and Boom-Boom/Boomer/Meltdown.
20:25 I was thinking the same thing, I was under the impression Bishop’s power was that he redirects kinetic energy. If so why not just use cyclops optic beam, why the unnecessary step🤷🏿♂️Maybe they just wanted 2 energy blasts
Watching this cut dry very well done breakdown of this episode and the comic tie-ins, from someone who doesn't know the comics, really helped my mama heart because this episode shattered it! I was very bothered for a while after watching it because I have two new babies of my own. Thank you for such a wonderful breakdown!
I think Sinister got his hands on Jean and her genetic material during the “Beyond Good and Evil” arc in season 4. He could’ve used Apocalypse’s power over time to speed up the cloning process. So the Jean that participated in the fall of Apocalypse was Madelyne Pryor.
@@KaijuAKD Not sure what you mean exactly. Mr. Sinister was retconned several times in the comics, long before Disney. Star Wars didn't really start getting retconned until Disney took over and they let Filoni do whatever he wanted.
@@KaijuAKDwhat marvel formula? For decades the only real Star Wars canon were 3 movies, it wasn't until very recently that they started to build on that Canon because all those years what we had were a ton of legends stories that were basically fan made, but some people really liked those stories and to this day still think that they are Canon when they really weren't. Star wars might be old but it's not as explored as comic book universes like the xmen that have lore that has been through the blender for many decades.
They adapted inferno really well for what it was. Tied it really nice in a half hour, I'm really digging this reboot.

In the comics Sinister is responsible for the bloodlines os several X Men including Cyclops (whose ancestor was one of several subjects of his experiments) Jean Grey (whose family appeared in the episode of his origin, his wife was Rebecca and he also referred to her as the queen or Eve), Xavier and several others. He wants to create the perfect mutant in order to defeat Apocalypse. Iliana, Colossus and Mikhail are offsprings of Grigori Rasputin who also met Sinister. There is an entire story to tell because he started all his experiments after his son died and Cyclops and Jean time travel to stop him.
Loved this episode and love this video, but also HOLY CRAP you're the first person I've seen in years reference my favorite version of Alice in Wonderland! The Natalie Gregory version had SO many stars it needs its own breakdown on one of your channels. That version of the Jabberwock was my childhood nightmare fuel also.
They condensed a few huge storylines in the comics into 1 episode. Madelyne Pryor, Cable’s origin, and Inferno. And… they did a pretty good job! I definitely don’t like Magneto getting top billing and Cyclops relinquishing lead of the team so easily. That don’t really track with his character - but I suppose it makes sense he was letting go of the reins because he was planning to leave the team. Also there shoulda been some mention of why Bishop can't bring Nathan back once he's cured. Anyways the showrunners doing almost the best job anyone can. Overall great show so far!
It was likely in season 4, when Mr. Sinister teamed up with Apocalypse and Magneto that he was able to clone Jean Grey, after kidnapping her in the four part episode “beyond good and evil”
Young jean grey is shown holding a cyclops plushie; the mythical monsters, not the x-man. This is the same plush doll she found in season 3's dark pheonix saga when she returns to her childhood home. Also a cute nod to the idea that she's always loved all things cyclops
Heeeey I love your content and watch everyday at work and it's funny we share a birthday 27th, happy birthday and thank you for all the amazing content
I think the grab of Jean was the second wedding. Nasty boys took them both but Jean went by herself into the portal. Nasty boys traveled together through a portal and sinister was taking Scott together.
This was a good episode but it felt rush. I’m sorry but the Madelyn Pryor/Inferno storyline should have at least a four-part storyline or the main storyline for the whole season. This storyline deserved the same treatment as the Phoenix/Dark Phoenix storyline.
Noticed that both Jeans had different tones of skin color. BUT the Jean on the couch somehow had had more of a tan despite being in a dungeon for however long. I don’t know what that means though lol
It’s funny how bishop took cable into the future So why in the last X-men cartoon cable made it seems he just meant bishop In that time fugitive story My theory is when bishop was taking Nathan into his timeline Nathan some how got Lost in the time stream and landed in the 40th century
The shower scene is flirtatious at the beginning. Is why the vision of Logan tell Morph, "we know." Morph was "jokingly" talking about scratching Logan's "hard to reach spots." He's constantly around Logan, because he has unrequited feelings for him like Logan does for Jean.
Love the episode I think this should have been a 2 episode arc tho at the least. Or had Madelyn Pryor realise what had happened with Mr sinister, in the background for a few episodes to build the suspense and flesh her character out a bit more.
I hope the writers do an arch based on the cyclops and phoenix comic series from the 90s, where scott and jean have their minds transported to bodies in the deep future, where they raise nathan and protect him from apocalypse
I think Mr Sinister switched Jean during the Beyond Good and Evil series. He was in the Axis of Time, so had unlimited time to perfect cloning, grow a clone and would have a chance to switch Jeans. This would explain why Beast found that the clone was younger than the real Jean; aging wouldn’t be the same in the Axis of Time, Sinister could have sped up the clones growth and it goes to normal when back in real time. Apocalypse said he spent a century there, learning its secrets and said he didn’t need his chamber anymore.
Can’t wait to see how or when Maria got there before Monica at the end of the Marvels. Beast told us in episode one that doohickey is an elegant piece of art capable of teleporting someone through time and space, or as the post credit says a universe parallel to our own which of course is impossible, without a quantum band /bangle bracelet… basically, the Nor dimension and the quantum entanglement matter displacement of Ms. Marvel, Photon, & Captain Marvel after the cosmic rod struck the 2nd bangle
Morph already had the claws out before. Morph thought it was Wolverine in the shower and made a joke about scratching his back, hence the claws. When Sinister 'arrived' the claws just stayed out.
Beyond Good and Evil. No one's to say that Sinister IMMEDIATELY delivered Jean to Apocalypse. Sinister is kept on a tight leash but he's not one to behave. Not letting the real Jean have the Phoenix saga again would be a massive misstep for the 97 writers. A strength of the OG show was that it tended to clean up the continuity from the comics. The retcon was a huge blow to Jean's character which resulted in writers keeping her in the background or not wanting to use her...pretty much until Grant Morrison came along and saved her character. I hope the show writers remain conscious of that.
I typed it elsewhere, but I had initially considered Beyond Good and Evil since that's when the shared memories stopped. It's not to say that it's a guarantee though. Apocalypse had control over the Axis of Time, so it's possible he could anticipate Sinister's betrayal (though the question is since the Axis is outside of Time, he may not see this; after all, Magneto had planned to betray Apocalypse from the start and it seems he was caught off guard). The other thing to consider is The Phalanx Covenant, though I think Sinister was more concerned with self preservation at that point. It could stand to reason though that this may be the prime time for him to swap Jean with Maddie since Apocalypse is dead until he's not and thus his knowledge of what's going on is severely limited.
I agree that there should be more of a build-up, though to be honest, the run-time of these episodes is closer to 1-1/2 length episode of the OG series.

Again is obvious that Ryan didn't watched this and is just reading some script
@@shojo8708I’m tripping off the “they” when referring to Morph when in the original cartoon he’s referred to as a he. Had to shoehorn in the bs.

This series is checking all the boxes. Damn good.
This was an amazing episode. It's probably my favorite one from horror like tone to just the animation in the action everything is perfect 10/10.
Talking about New Mutants we met earlier, Wolfsbane was in the Cold Comfort episode with X-Factor.
I can't lie... I cried 😢. Phenomenal writing 🫡
The name Madelyne Pryor is apparently a little joke of Sinisters, Madelyne as in her "Made her" & Pryor as in she had a prior existance as Jean Grey.
one thing that you missed is that storm's title screen has been removed from the opening credits, emphasizing that she really has left the team.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY RYAN!!
That’s what I thought too. It never showed that the original Jean had the power of the phoenix or aware of it. She didn’t know how big this power was.
Not necessarily Jean performs a mind melted not sure who did what?. Look at Besty Brodrick/Knwannon storyline and Psylock/Revanance.
Jean and Maddie went over their memories again recently in the comics
definitely think Sinister cloned & swapped Jean either before the psychics were freed in the Beyond Good & Evil arc or as you mentioned, during a brief window in the Phalanx Covenant 2-parter
also we've met other members of the New Mutants in the original show.
Damn! That hint to Cable theme brilliant I did not even catch that. Great work
Watching this cut dry very well done breakdown of this episode and the comic tie-ins, from someone who doesn't know the comics, really helped my mama heart because this episode shattered it! I was very bothered for a while after watching it because I have two new babies of my own. Thank you for such a wonderful breakdown!
I can take heartbreak, I cannot take watching Gambit get heartbroken. Come on Marvel, don't do my boi dirty again!
I think Sinister got his hands on Jean and her genetic material during the “Beyond Good and Evil” arc in season 4. He could’ve used Apocalypse’s power over time to speed up the cloning process. So the Jean that participated in the fall of Apocalypse was Madelyne Pryor.
MP calling herself Goblin Queen made no sense without the demon storyline.
The original series arc with the techno virus was also a spin on the comics legacy virus arc, which was an alegory to the AIDS crisis in the 90's.
Nobody ever questions WHY Mr. Sinister is vulnerable to Cyclops optic blasts, but he's been retconned so many times I don't feel like getting into it.
This is why the Marvel Formula didn't work with Star Wars.
Scott Summers is from ancient Egyptians family line of Pharaoh's. Maybe that why it harm him?.
@@sophiawilson8696 If that's the case it would be a retcon. Moreover, Mr. Sinister is completely impervious to Havok.
Question did Sinister's wife had baby? After Sinister ran away?.
Magneto and Cyclops both have supporting roles in this episode, so I don't think Cyclops' role has been reduced. I see your point though
For this mission Cyclops shouldn't have even gone much less lead, he's emotionally compromised
Happy birthday 🎉🎉🎉 hope you have a good one. It’s so cool to share one so close. Mine is tomorrow
Scott is being an ass! His father actually thought he, his brother and his wife were ALL DEAD! He didn’t abandoned him…..
Heeeey I love your content and watch everyday at work and it's funny we share a birthday 27th, happy birthday and thank you for all the amazing content
I am going to have to rewatch the Old series again ❤❤❤❤
I think the grab of Jean was the second wedding. Nasty boys took them both but Jean went by herself into the portal. Nasty boys traveled together through a portal and sinister was taking Scott together.
This was a good episode but it felt rush. I’m sorry but the Madelyn Pryor/Inferno storyline should have at least a four-part storyline or the main storyline for the whole season. This storyline deserved the same treatment as the Phoenix/Dark Phoenix storyline.
It was way too rushed! And as parents Scott and the Jean's clone you not going with my child alone.
Happy birthday Ryan! We share the same birthday! 🎉
I keep forgetting Sinister was the final villain in the Deadpool game.
Noticed that both Jeans had different tones of skin color. BUT the Jean on the couch somehow had had more of a tan despite being in a dungeon for however long. I don’t know what that means though lol
It’s funny how bishop took cable into the future
So why in the last X-men cartoon cable made it seems he just meant bishop
In that time fugitive story
My theory is when bishop was taking Nathan into his timeline Nathan some how got
Lost in the time stream and landed in the 40th century
Happy birthday Ryan! 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
The shower scene is flirtatious at the beginning. Is why the vision of Logan tell Morph, "we know." Morph was "jokingly" talking about scratching Logan's "hard to reach spots." He's constantly around Logan, because he has unrequited feelings for him like Logan does for Jean.
*They but sure
Happy Birthday, Ryan! 🎉
Love the episode
I think this should have been a 2 episode arc tho at the least.
Or had Madelyn Pryor realise what had happened with Mr sinister, in the background for a few episodes to build the suspense and flesh her character out a bit more.
Maybe, it will be shown in later episode.
I hope the writers do an arch based on the cyclops and phoenix comic series from the 90s, where scott and jean have their minds transported to bodies in the deep future, where they raise nathan and protect him from apocalypse
As a Dad, seeing Nathan disappear into the time stream crushed me.
Am I the only one thinking that if I was Logan I would ask Mr. Sinister to throw a Jean clone or two my way 😭🤣
Same here!!
So we all agree morph definitely has a crush on logan right....?
That would melt the minds of a lot of trolls.
@@maxanluulnaxam1102 i mean its soo obvious 🤷♀️
Remember Logan & Hercules had a thing in a comic run, so it wouldn’t be implausible.
Yup
@@DagNeb_Italternate timeline Logan not 616
Morph already had the claws out before. Morph thought it was Wolverine in the shower and made a joke about scratching his back, hence the claws.
When Sinister 'arrived' the claws just stayed out.
When do you thin Jean was swapped out?
After the Phoenix Saga. Jean was the Phoenix. Maddie was the Dark Phoenix.
During their honeymoon, in "Till Death Do Us Part". Madelyne (clone) says she was Phoenix as if Jean wasn't.
During their honeymoon in til death when Jean, and Scott was married it was first time we saw mister sinister.
That teddy bear transformation reminded me of that one scene in akira.
Better than the comic version.
What a great episode, I'm so hyped for Episode 4.
This should have been an event like a 3 part episode, they just rushed it in 1 episode
I agree that there should be more of a build-up, though to be honest, the run-time of these episodes is closer to 1-1/2 length episode of the OG series.
