SLIGHT CORRECTION: I've generally been saying Japanese names in the english order (given name first, family name last) but I got it switched for Miyajima Yoshihiro. So if you were to say with the english order, it would be Yoshihiro Miyajima.
The 'UA-cam editing' of Marcille's face is a perfect translation of the 2-panel gag from the comic. I love that the zoom-in doesn't happen until Laos looks up and notices, holds just long enough for the joke to land, then immediately cuts to the next scene. Trigger's editing just makes Kui's humor even better.
The close up feels like an homage to the excellent “okay” face from One Punch Man. Something about the zoom in and really sticking to the manga panel just really brings that to mind.
I think senshi's face "animation" are a hit or miss for people. I've seen some people love it and others don't like it at all, I personally like how it recreates the feel of the manga where his face doesn't change at all and the only sign that he's talking is the speech bubble. I think it's pretty funny, and as long as everything else is moving properly I'm ok with it.
Honestly? I think the snap zoom in on Marcille's face after Laios says is an homage to modern humor. It feels like so many things me and my friends have sent back to each other at 3 am trying to make the stupider reaction image.
1:02 that third eyelid is called the nictitating membrane. It’s a normally transparent structure found in practically all vertebrates, one of the only exceptions being primates(except for one species). It has many uses. Beavers use them to protect their eyes underwater, and peregrine falcons use them to protect their eyes when diving at 200 miles per hour. It’s definitely good attention to detail that they added it.
I was already sold to this show but that YT style abrupt close up made me love it even more,. really love the breakdown , looking forward to binging your videos .
Something that is interesting to think about this episode, is that the 'low budget' probably doesn't reflect the whole show. This episode is mostly low, light stuff over all as opposed to what can happen in other anime, and so it makes sense for Trigger to give this episode just enough to be well made and crafted, while saving the bank for future episodes and the events in them.
Great analysis! I found your channel from your first dungeon Meshi video and your production quality is insane. The way you trace things in a shot with the little pencil scratch sound effect for emphasis is really nice. I also love it when anitubers draw attention to the creators of a specific sequence or shot, really recognizing them for their work. Also, insane turnaround on this video given the episode only aired a couple of days ago. I look forward to your next video, whether you're planning to do more dungeon Meshi reactions or not.
I really loved the opening animation style, reminds me of the finale shots from Trigger projects like Kill La Kill. Also I liked your notes on the lack of line work on Red Dragon, I feel like by not having defined lines, it makes the dragon feel consistently massive in every shot
Great attention to detail, and the way you analyse each layer of the composition makes it more compelling. Thanks for reviewing each episode, glad I found your channel!
Oh pls do this for every chapter, pls and thank u. BTW, the dub in spanish was pretty good, i watched both spanish and japanese and japanese does feel and sound better, but the quality of spanish dubs has been good as of recent. Favorite part of the episode was the Marcille staff bonk.
Interesting, I think the only bit of a Spanish anime dub I've heard is the crazy laugh bit from Death Note lol. maybe I'll try to struggle through an episode with my limited high school Spanish XD
I just found your channel and I LOVE your analysis. It's really clear you're both really knowledgeable about animation and have a lot of passion for the craft. I wouldn't be surprised if you told me you were an artist yourself! Looking forward to watching more of your videos!
This show vexes me a bit, because it's damn near the perfect fantasy anime, and everything about it is great: The characters, the world-building, the tone, the slow-burn plot going on in the background... I just wish it wasn't about _food._ Seriously, I don't care about cooking. I care about dungeon crawling and treasure hunting and monster fighting and weird magical stuff. I even think the idea of dungeon explorers having to gather provisions along the way is interesting and makes a lot of sense, but whenever the cooking segments come up I always wish they'd put that focus on basically anything else.
Well, while it never really **stops** being about food per se, I will say that it does become about **a lot more than just** food. They never stop cooking, but it does become a little less frequent as other problems arise, and without spoiling it, especially in the latter half of the story, food becomes much more of a metaphor for... other central themes.
@@swampjawn Yeah, I kinda figured, given what I've seen so far. I still enjoy it, don't get me wrong, I just can't help but imagine how amazing it could have been.
I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING ESPECIALLY SENSHI MUSTACHE AND THE MUSHROOM CUT and i learnt SO MUCH about the animation tysm you really make me appreciate the anime adaption even more 🫶🫶🫶 i just wish the colors in the anime were a liiitle bit more vibrant, that’d be perfect for me. can’t wait for future episodes!
I swear they animated Senshi's mustache as he talks in one scene but I can't find it anymore and makes me wonder if I imagined it while reading the entire manga in the last few days haha
Being a very long time anime fan, I found this to be a refreshing change. I made me feel like it could fit right into the American anime called dungeons and dragons from the 80’s. I have read the manga yet, but this is well written and I just love the artwork and the characters and the voice acting is great. It’s a great change from all these I died and respawned as a…!
It was nice to look at aspects of animation that I missed first two times around! Thank you for the video :D I am also very curious where Trigger will go from here, especially since DM is kinda of a slowburn.
I have been waiting so long for the anime ever since i heard it would be animated, and first episode is already SO fucking good! I hope they keep that energy up the whole way through. Give justice to the manga!
Subscribed! I usually don't watch analysis videos because they can get... well. But I really enjoyed this. I'm glad you said it was good at the beginning rather than leaving it for the end and super enjoyed your animation analysis! As someone who read the manga and then watched the first episode immediately after I was a bit... unsure? I guess. I think I was being hyper critical. It also took me a bit to get into the voices. But I really did enjoy the episode and all the little details! What did you think about the animation lining where parts of it was like... smudged? I thought it was interesting and I don't think I've seen that kind of thing before.
Ooh heck yeah! Are you going this make this a mini-series? If you do, I’ll be looking forward to these every week! (You should share the link on your social medias too!)
great video! one thing you didn't touch on was the Dub, which I think is better than the original japanese version! Sungwon cho's senshi and emily rudd's marcille were particular standouts. the japanese voiceover wasn't BAD per se, but it felt a bit low-energy
You know while I do think that I would prefer the mustache move, I can also understand why that might make it that much easier to dub him, especially in english. I think the tradeoff is probably worth it.
My only complaint was that episode was bit too fast paced and information intense to really savor the the relaxing atmosphere of cooking parts. But maybe it gets better paced after few episodes.
This is a good video talking about Trigger doing Trigger style things. I like this show but im calling it now this feels like people are gonna rank this one lower then LWA but slightly above BNA 💁
I don’t watch many animes… but with only 7 episodes, I was able to easily stomach it. This show is going to be fun pitching it to someone who has no idea what it is.
After making it through 3/4 of the show I can confidently say it's a 5/10 at best, 4.5/10 at worst. A truly middle of the road show more on the bland side. Basically only exists so that animators can draw food.

True!

I suspect this is a gag that'll pay off in the scenes Senshi takes his helmet off.
Honestly? I think the snap zoom in on Marcille's face after Laios says is an homage to modern humor. It feels like so many things me and my friends have sent back to each other at 3 am trying to make the stupider reaction image.
The silent zoom in of Marcille's face killed me, ngl. It was so unexpected, and I don't really laugh sincerely all that often. So it was nice.
yeahhh, and if i remember right they did the same thing on ep 18, AUHUHAUHAUS
Yeah i remember 2 zooms and gooshhh it was really so unexpected and post production that made me scream meme! I really liked that bit
I was expecting one of those reviews simply on the episode itself, not entire animation and art detailing as well. I LOVE IT.

I personally like the farfetch’d reference with the “a duck isn’t gonna walk around a carrying a green onion”
Farfetch'd is a reference to the saying not the other way around.

6:00 It almost just feels like the artists are going "People are gonna meme this shot, lets just do it for them as a treat"
I really loved the opening animation style, reminds me of the finale shots from Trigger projects like Kill La Kill. Also I liked your notes on the lack of line work on Red Dragon, I feel like by not having defined lines, it makes the dragon feel consistently massive in every shot
Delicious in dungeon is the only cooking anime that makes me want to eat monsters
First episode of the series, thank you very much for such a good job, now I have the others left, see you in the last one. 🛐
1:02 fun fact that's called a nictitating membrane!
Great attention to detail, and the way you analyse each layer of the composition makes it more compelling. Thanks for reviewing each episode, glad I found your channel!
really great breakdown! your analysis was very calm and straightforward, which i appreciated. im so excited to see the rest of kuis work adapted!!!
Really made me appreciate the animation more, thank you for making for this video!
Oh pls do this for every chapter, pls and thank u.

5:52 love all of the UA-cam adding shot Thay give the idea that the animators love their job

5 month ago you were 900 now 18k nice my guy
The small preview on Netflix does look silly with the idea of eating a big mushroom for dinner. Might just watch the Dub for my morning days

think it was the basilisk ep where he talks about nutritious diets or something
Yay he's allowed outside for 150 minutes!

Its really awesome that the episodes are being released every week. That means i get to see people discuss it a lot hehe
THERE ARE MORE AND I AM SO PLEASED!
Excellent video my guy!
I wasn't expecting a sakuga booru breakdown, gj.

A great adaptation, though like you pointed out, have a few things missing, but the sum is more important

Yeah I watched both versions - Sungwon did such a great job with Senshi, I almost couldn't tell it was him!
Great anime , I'm loving this so far
Now everytime I see Marcille, I can't unhear her german dub hahaha
You know while I do think that I would prefer the mustache move, I can also understand why that might make it that much easier to dub him, especially in english. I think the tradeoff is probably worth it.

Nice to see that you've more than hit the sub goal you had since this video. I hope you enjoyed your 10 minutes outside! What's it like? XD
the zoom on Marcille’s face is what made me finish this show, the humor was so sudden it just made me curious about the rest of the season.
I don’t watch many animes… but with only 7 episodes, I was able to easily stomach it. This show is going to be fun pitching it to someone who has no idea what it is.
Love this anime
Yes. Next question
Yes.
蠱惑の壺DX sent me.
Senshi is awesome
Funny how the title is just a stupid question.

The first episode fell a bit flat for me honestly. Something was off about the humor or something. I cant quite put my finger on it.
Watch the spanish dub
