In this video we will have a look at the Original Prusa i3 MK3 3D Printer and find out whether it is a worthy successor to the MK2. Along the way I will show you my experiences I had with the machine and its new features. And at the end I will tell you whether I think it is worth the money.

what i like about 3D printer is that u have the ability to print simple stuff that u might need in a Project like a nut or a screw with a prefect size without sturggleing to find it
This is the MOST HONEST review that I have found. Thank you for that.
@Bubz of Steel i agree with you, u look like a good-eye customer, could you please tell me which one would you recommend?
What a well spoken, perfectly honest review. For one second, my mind didn't wander, and I didn't touch the fast forward. Bravo - this printer is in my future.
1:10 this is no joke even to me when i ordered a contact lens solution they gave me a packet of gummy bears
pizza lol
almost want to buy something from them so I can get some gummy bears
That gummy bear made from their 3d printer 🤣
its easter egg ...
When you order gummy bears and get free gummy bears
Any other owner of 3D printer: *struggles with ABS*
Him: *struggles with bamboo, wood and gumish "thing" made from tires, shoes etc.*
Where can i dawing model on apps or websites?
A very nice review. Thinking about getting a 3D printer and see this seems to be the Cadillac of 3D printers. Thanks for showing other types of filaments that can be used and that you need to fine tune the parameters. Again great job!
Give them 10/10 for the gummy bears
IF ONLY you knew what they were made of... IDK if you would be so enthusiastic.
Bit like MacDonalds, if you knew, then you wouldn't want to eat it.
Gelatin from bones, hooves, etc, which has been well known for a long time I thought... Last time I've seen anyone surprised or grossed out by it was grade school lol.
People have been eating gelatin for centuries, it used to be a luxury
Exactly, here you go son, chew on a bit of bulls hoof...
Its like allot of chewie sweets have chemically derived sand in them, basically a sweet made out of sand and sugar and a bit of flavouring and colour...
There was a time that sweets and foods were made with proper ingredients and none of this chemically recovered stuff...
why have you done this
In the interest of public health and safety, it is important to understand the depths of the food chain and what goes in to your foods, pretty gross, if you ever see a sausage being made, you will never touch a "Minced product" ever again.
My dad when he was given a division to run for a company that sold food additives for food processors, he came home after going around a sausage factory, then a beef burger factory... both items off the menu. You wanted sausage, you wanted beef burger, you made it yourself out of meats you ground yourself using meat from a butcher you trust.. So for my dad to do that, it has to be pretty grim.
Sweet production is as grim, gummy bears of the likes in the box... I would rather eat the ass out of a live crocodile... TYVM.
I thought that the acupuncture needle was for when the printer started acting up and you needed to take some of the stress away.
Dude! I love the fact that you called yourself out on being "too lazy" to fine tune your parameters. I love it when people admit things like this. Great review!
I work on these printers. Mainly the MK2's But they are really easy to fix.
I have recently bought the renkforce rf100 v2 and i think for the price its a really great 3d printer. The only drawback is the priting size(120x120x120mm)
OMG it's my dream to have one of these for years now for prosthetics design! unfortunately my body crapped out and i can no longer work so it remains a dream only! these things are getting so cool and mainstream now!!
Maybe get an ender 3 it’s way cheaper like below 200 and it has similar print quality only thing is it doesn’t have the comfort features like a magnetic bed and stuff
I wanted to get Prusa i3 MK2(.5) but its price still was too high for me, so I got the cheapest 3D printer kit with known good track record (FLSun, Anycubic was one of the candidates but the influencer replied too late)
It's loud, it's wobbly, it keeps knocking parts off the bed, etc.
I drowned the bed with glue stick and turned the settings to perfection.
It took me whopping 3 weeks of constant effort to get everything working at least a bit reliably.
Now you know why Prusa printers are a bit expensive. They make sure you will have the best possible experience with their products. One by one. And that costs money.
Sounds to me like you just don't know what the hell you're doing
Am I the only one who finds the sound of 3D printers calming?
poppet pala No :D
Try a 24-ish hour print, you won't find it calming anymore xD
I love the musical notes it makes... I'd love to try create some geometry that actually plays a tune!
usually i fuck during printing :D
I can hallucinate the sound in a silent environment after a long print. It is not calming, it sits into your brain and haunts you.
I just ordered the upgrade for the i3mk2 to implement the bed upgrade. So this video is very useful for me, thanks!
I noticed during some of the prints such as the flexible and wood, the print cooling fan was not turned on, this could be why it stringed a bit for those two types of filament
the profiles are tuned for the type of filament, some filaments are not recommended to be cooled, like ABS, Flexibles and sometimes Wood filament (depending on its composition)
3d printer, buy it or diy?
It is on my to do list but I have no idea when I will get to it
I'm afraid if you will finish it in 2022. 😁
Haha......possible
I knew it. Lol Wkwkwk 😁
Or Maybe you must try to review another model of 3d printer like sls.
i love my Prusa i3 Mk3 (it's the only printer i have thou). It's indispensible for my metal casting (patterns) and making in general. I just love it! - i do wish it had a bigger build volume though.
@@teeemm6415 oooh thanks i'll have a look cheers :)
I bought an Ender 2 for just 140 bucks and so far it's working fine. Of course there aren't any fancy features but still one of the best entry-level "get yourself hyped up without breaking your wallet"-kind of 3D printers :)
$140!? Damn! How's the print quality? Have you been able to fine-tune it to get a decent quality?
Benchy had a few tiny things that weren't as good as his one in the video but it's pretty damn close and definitely more than acceptable for that price.
in my opinion the anet a8 is better, you just have to upgrade it and its works perfectly. im already printing with 0.1mm and the quality is really good
If safety is important, the Ender does far better.
David
You haven't the faintest idea. you don't know anything about that.
Probably the most honest review I've ever seen. A lot of them are way too optimistic, things always go wrong, even with the best tech. Great review!
I'd say it's pretty biased considering he gets these printers for free and if he gave them an honest review he would get to know more printers
To this day i still love the Prusa i3 mk3, do you think you'll ever review the Bambu lab?
Edit: scratch that, I'm almost hating the sound of Bambu thanks to the community.
I really hoped for better print quality from a printer that price. My (fairly old) Wanhao Duplicator 4 does better PLA. I am still fighting with ABS and really wish that my printer had a better and larger print bed.
It does pretty well if you don't print at crazy speeds as shown in the video, though. I printed a benchy that looks almost flawless in ~40 mins including heating. Maybe Prusa wanted to showcase the printer's capabilities by providing faster pre-sliced gcode lol
So proud to be Czech after watching this video 😁
n1sendev Because Prusa 3D printers are practically completely made in Czech republic and Josef Průša is Czech
So he can't be proud when he personally didn't make the printer?
No need to be an ass.
We're proud for our country. At least something is good about it.
We are small, so we are happy, when we see our products in the World. Thats all :)
Hey man come Czech this printer out!
im so proud of my country, and prusa
if Prusa was all metal parts It would been perfect.
SUPERB video creation.. very informative and methodically done.
My mind was blown when I saw you use the highlighter to bring into focus the facts being stated.
A VERY good product review indeed.
Prusa mk3 is so slow.... Insanely slow. And the print quality is not so high as it expected. I'm using Anycubic's delta. Its hard to assemble and calibrate, but after all of its done - 120-150 mm/sec with stunning outer shell. Smooth as butter. And you can convert it on 32 bit chips or Klipper firmware and do even better.
I personally like Prusa’s idea to price this at $749 so customers in the Tax-heavy States will be under the BS import tax. Thank you for this review.
Prusa has debuted a filament changer for the Mk 3. Maybe that could be the topic of another video?
The print quality is well below what i would consider ok. Ringing, z-wobble and other artifacts. I've seen prints from other genuine Prusa I3's look a lot better.
IMHO you should get in touch with Prusa as it looks to me like there is something wrong with your printer.
GreatScott, PLEASE get the TEVO Tornado and see what you think. its by far my best printer. and for the price tag of only 360 USD, its definitely worth checking out.
Hrdě vyrobeno v České republice :)
Pravda
the price is too high for me... but I'm sure I will own this one in the future! greatVideo, greatScott!
Another quality, informative video! Thanks again, GreatScott!
So I bought a Geeetech Mecreator 2 in the beginning of 2018 for 250€ and it has even a better Quality. The only disadvantages are the noice and the smaller build plate but that's it.
I have a MK2 and have always been disappointed with it having 3d printed parts. They are slowly breaking after 6+ months of use, and TBH do look a bit crap. That said, it still performs better than most better looking printers in the same price bracket. But yeah, 3D printing is all about frustration tolerance. I still havent worked up the nerve to figure out how to get ninjaflex to print in it. After a few mangled noodle events I took it out and went back to PLA!
Wireline yes and they look terrible and stringy. I assembled a kit and all the nuts would not fit properly. Molded plastic would be so much better...

@@YEJJUAKHILKUMAR Stop being such a fucking idiot.
You have a printer, just reprint the parts.
If I only had $1000! This would definitely be my first printer! I could just imagine the possibilities! There has been so many projects I have done since I started doing DIY, that I could have used a 3D Printer. But the Price Tag kills me when I try and find one I can afford. Than I see the reviews on the chepo I found, and its back to the drawing Board. It seems to get a printer that actually does it job, you have to dish out the cash for it. If I had my pick of printers, I would definitely go with the Prusa i3 MK3. Unfortantly, I will have to dream and wait for this to show up used in my area, or the price drop by 80%😊😊😊
👍👍👍Great Review Scott!!👍👍👍
For a first printer buy a Monoprice Mini or Ender 2 or even Wanhao i3 or CR-10. Nobody needs this printer.
Please make an electronics basics video about heart beat sensors.
Today I started an 8 hours print and 4 and half hours later I noticed that I was running out of filament. I've just done a filament fuse mid print. A candle and a craft knife and good to go for another 4 hours :D
A 3D Printer DIY or BUY is the highest anticipated video to me from you. ❤️
I love your videos man! As an American your accent sounds awesome! Seriously though I’ve been wanting this printer for sometime. I want multimaterial though.
It's good to see that you're ending series regarding ender style printers, as there is ton of it in the internet. Would love to see some more insight into delta printers, as it's more exotic subject.
So tempted to get one of these! I really want to upgrade my old 3D printer, but I have no more room in my tiny apartment. ): As it is I have to pack it away after every use just so I have the bench space to work on other projects, so definitely no room for a new one! Maybe if I sell one of my couches...
A well and throughly done review.
After opening the box, I found a bag of gummy bears
Matthew Duncan haha, I'd see myself do that 😂😂
😂
I like some of the 3D Printing components (including pricing) of this system as noted. I was reading about the Prusa i3 MK3 for my planned custom more versatile CNC system recently, cool to see the video review. Thanks for the more thorough review and affirmation.
I am thinking of buying this but every video i watch makes me not to as the prints i get from my modded Ender 3 are much better than what i see...
The mk3s is really nice. The autoload, filament sensor, auto calbration, removable bed, and ease of repair are the main reason I love the prusa. It really depends on your settings and filament. I've gotten the best prints of my life on this machine.
Make a video on how you make videos .. like camera , stuff , editing rig , software , stuff !
Nice, that they added a Noctua Fan to the printer, i guess it does a lot for noise reduction
Can you do a DIY or BUY
3D Printer
It is on my to do list
Can't wait. I'll use your knowledge and experience to improve and\or fix cheap 3D printer from china.
@@greatscottlab so
Cool it's the style of great Scott totally unique and useful love you Scott from INDIA .
I´ll stay at my UMO+, which is fully made out of wood :) (well, the most parts of it...)
I see the results you’re obtaining with this 1000 dollars printer, And I can now say, my 160 dollar ender 3 does the same, and maybe better.
it's not better I am speaking from experience
Electronic TOJ when analyzing the results without knowing which printer did the job, if the ender 3 is perfectly calibrated and the slicer properly configured, the results are the same, I’m also talking from experience :)
When you pay the extra cost for a prusa printer, you’re paying for a better factory calibrated machine and also for a couple extra features. All this can be achieved with an ender 3, knowing how to calibrate and adjust the machine.
I have many printers, prusa i3 mk3s is better than ender 3
My dad also got gummy bears before, from a company that was selling parts to a computer.
Congrats your subscribers are rapidly increasing as always I say your videos are awesome and I helps people learn new things in an easy way. Thanks
the prusa i3 is really good, along with great documentation and support - if your handy a 150 $ kit might work - or it might not .... but a original prusa i3 just works - or the problem is easy to find and fix.
Unless it's something that prusa needs to fix the customer support sucks ass.
If you take the time to trim and adjust the Anet A8 3d printer, you can get just as good quality from a sub 200 USD printer.
Kristian Hansen I have A8 with all mods and upgrades, including am8 aluminum frame and hi end electronics - its waste of money... For now, I spend so much, that I can bay a prusa i3 mk2 or mk3 kit. If you have good budget, get better printer from start.
I bought an anet a8 and spend 2-3 hours playing around with the bed leveling and parameters, and now I can print ball bearings, screws and nuts and other mechanical components in PLA. It has decent outer tolerances (+-0,2mm) but the holes always come out ~0.6mm under. It takes a little time, but I have great experience with the Anet A8.
- but I agree - if you have the money, get a better printer.
My Anet A8 will probably break down after a couple of years of use.
Also, the Anet has some serious safety hazards.
I have an MK2S and its printing very good. I have it from when it came out. If you have patience to set it up correctly, it prints beautifully. And yea, worth it! Prusa printers are the best! 😍😏
Hello! While watching your videos about 3d printing I noticed that the flexible filament has much smoother surface than regular ones. So I came to an idea (Maybe totally stupid) that u could make a complete project using abs or whatever, filament base and then cover it with thin felxible filament shell. Looking forward to Yours response!
I will think about it
How to do you want to cover it? Dual extrusion?
We just got the MK3s at work. I printed the batman piece first too lol
9:16 did he call it courtesan? If so that's a very interesting way to describe it
Did I spy a pair of Tronex cutters? Excellent choice!
Very nice review. You are one of the best tech-UA-camrs!
I love my MK2 and this makes me wanna buy the Mk3
Ordered a Prusa i3 MK3S and needed to secure my decision ...
Thanks!

Great video, but you really should tune your profiles, it makes a huge difference in the print finish. Some people are sharing theirs on the facebook pages.
omg, a THOUSAND EURO, this is insane! You can assemble THREE coreXY printers full of those 'new features' for that money!
1: Buy a 3D printer
2: Print a 3D printer
3: Return the 3D printer
Kristian Jensen it seems legit.Great Idea!
not return, but send it to someone else and then forward it again and again... Meanwhile many many new printers will do the job and create and replicate.
4: Profit!
good luck printing psu, motherboard, wheels, motors, screws, nuts and bolts, firmware, etc.
the printer would be made of what you're melting
I am planning on buying one of these. Have you considered nylon printing? It’s my understanding that the material offers you both strength an flexibility, unlike other more brittle material, and you can use yard trimmer line as the spool.
I have not tried nylon yet.
Highly recommend you check it out, for your projects that are meant to take a beating. It is tricky to work with because it has to remain dehydrated and has trouble adhering to the surface.
The Artillery genius is just as quite maybe even more. The first couple of days I ieșit thinking it stopped printing.
Great review! This sold me on getting one of these.
What I'm interested in is this process of "reaching out to the manufacturer" to receive a "review model."
I have no real presence on UA-cam, but I do on other social media platforms, ...plus I can bs like a mf!
So, what is your pitch when you reach out to a manufacturer...?
Just built my mk3 last night!
One of the best printers out there.
Great awesome video ! Thnxs for the detailed info.
They take up more space and the printing process is easier to film when the bed is not moving around constantly.
I have a cheap Anet A6, bought it in kit form. Now I defenately want something better. However, the price is quite high. Never the less, your video convinced me ! Love your work, great channel.
At the end no one stops you from printing the parts in a different color 😉
Make RC AIRPLANE great scott edition
I see the printer still has wobbling issues that results in shadows and waves on the surface of your prints. Probably the metal frame is stable in the X direction but less in the Y direction.
Awesome, man. Liked it a lot! Great review!
I'd love to see you take a stab at building your own 3D printer with some arduino parts and stepper motors. It might not be the best product, but it would be absolutely educational and teach what goes into a 3D printer, how to maintain one, as well as general hobbyist arduino skills and logic. Maybe it could even be a DIY or Buy.
How diy should it be? For example, using linear motion components, aluminum extrusion, a fully assembled extruder kit and hotend kit, it would come down to just printing some mounting hardware in another printer and put it together. Would probably end up being a bad ender 3 at a higher price.
Or should he go full diy and use hardware store threaded rods to drive the axes etc?
@@LuLeBeIt's been a few years, I made this comment back when I didn't have a 3D printer but desperately wanted one. but I was thinking more so the latter. Using arduino as stepper controllers, finding the best IC's for silent steppers or IC's for frinting faster while canceling motion jerking from moving too fast etc. it's been awhile, but I've seen solutions where you literally slot in an arduino for every motor or just use an at-mega as a controller.
Once you have the controller set up it's basically rods, heating plate, maybe point out that while duel extruder and hot ends sound cool in theory it cuts down your printing area, so for multi color prints you should look into a mixing hot end etc. Maybe spend more or less on rails and steppers to get voltage based end stops without limit switches. Find a acreen, do some tuning in Marlin, flash, you're off to the races.
Great Scott always has a very analitical pros/cons view, he might prioritize some features over others, how can you get the most features for a decent price etc. I honestly just wanted to see his take on it, and it would have served as a gateway for people like myself who wanted to get into the hobby. Even if it was just ripping open some old DVD drives for motors and ordering a hotend Great Scott probably would have made it interesting.
ofc that u have to reduce speed for flexible filament dude
You could maybe get better print quality if you put the printer in an enclosed space. Worked for me
Possible
what's your beef with cartesian 3D printers?
They suck. Moving the bed is over. It's an old design with flaws and doesn't scale. If you're still driving a horse and cart then I stand corrected.
Jamie which style do you recommend?
Jamie man, corexy and ultimaker kinematics are also kartesian. You mean prusa/i3 movement.

Hey, just a tip, I heard that PETG doesn't get along with the PEI surface on the printer. I print with PETG so much that it's keeping me from getting one of those fabled sheets
I heard PETG is no problem for the surface. I also did not experience any problems. Flexible filament was more dangerous.
The stepper motors on this printer are the same as what are in my stage moving head lights
YEA!! I REBUILT ONE OF THE MK2's ON MY UA-cam CHANNEL

Maybe you've answered this before, but, if not Cartesian printers, which do you prefer? Delta? Scara? Something else?
I bought one and I'm regretting it now. One of the printed parts broke during assembly when setting nuts into the printed part. Thinking I'd get a new one sent to me, I contacted Prusa. "it's your fault. Buy a replacement from our shop". What? the part was badly printed, with bad dimensional accuracy. "Doesn't matter. Pay for a new part form out shop".
Wish I knew about their attitude before I paid premium $ for hobby quality.
That's crazy. I recently got my fifth printer from Prusa and all the parts have been top quality. I've also received free replacement parts (like thermistors) from support on a number of occasions.
If you have Twitter you can tag Matt Stultz, he is Head of Community at Prusa.
Although the individual parts actually only cost a few euros.
I'm very surprised and I definitely don't share this experience!
@@JanTec3D I agree. Crazy and really unexpected. All my contact was through info@prusa3d.com so you don't know who you are going to get. The response I got was really negative and I did what I was told; I bought a replacement part from the shop. Small value only but the shipping cost wasn't good. I'm sure some have a good experience with Prusa, but in this case I must have struck someone having a bad day. Even with this bad experience I have just bought another one. At least via email there is only one, so good luck if you strike the ogre.
Thanks for the unbiased review of the mk3, unlike a lot of other youtubers who "reviewed" the same unit.
Yeah it's pretty hard to be unbiased when you get these machines for free
How about Longer 3D Printers? Just saw some selling on Amazon and looks great!
Damn...almost 1000EUR ? I could get a used car for that money :))
I can smell the hot filament through the video.
Thanks for an "honest" review! I don't have the MK3, but I do own an i3 MK2s, and in my opinion well worth the $700+ I paid for it. I can get consistently excellent prints with only a few extra tweaks, and I imagine that the MK3 will be no different.
Honest review he receives his machines for free pretty biased I think.
Good, informative video. Thank you
