  • One thing I am doing for Sustainability July is to try to come up with three meals that I can make that are (relatively) plastic free. This is something that will take brainstorming and refining as I go along. It just occurred to me that I could make the toppings for the bruschetta without having to buy jars (but in my world, where I am not much of a cook, buying in jars is probably more realistic anyway).
Visit the plasticfreejuly.com site to find out more about trying to reduce our consumption of plastic.
Two books I am reading for Sustainability July are:
Essays from The Gift of Good Land by Wendell Berry
Zero Waste Living; The 80/20 Way by Stephanie J. Miller

This is so inspiring! It makes you think how plastic is everywhere in stores!

You are fortunate to have so many great options available! I used to make granola, many long years ago. Thanks for the French bread serving suggestion - I bought some when I was in Oregon yesterday and wasn't sure what to do with it. I wonder if there's any Bruschetta available in our local market. They do have some organic foods. I treasure my jar lids and would not want to recycle them. I use some of them in my art room for putting paints into, like little palettes. They are especially helpful for inks, and my acrylic inks. I use other lids for jars in which I store leftovers rather than using plastic containers.

@@Eldertalk that is so good that you use jar lids! If you have olive oil and some tomato or bell peppers you can easily make a bruschetta topping.

@@faithbooks7906 Thanks, that is good to know because I went to the store and there was absolutely NO bruschetta or sun dried tomatoes!! This is the only store in at least 40 miles. I have to order a lot of things online.

@@Eldertalk I think how much one can do really depends on location. I have started ordering things from Thrive Market. I think the price is pretty good and they have lots of things that are plastic free (relatively speaking).

Hi! Totally unrelated: how can I join your Discord group? The invite in a previous video comes up as "invalid". I first encountered your channel shortly before the "WeLoveJenny" event, and I enjoyed listening to the "Dorothy Day Livestream" discussion on Christy Luis' channel. Thanks!
