Folks who have painted a cast iron stove know that there is a difference between the many kinds of "normal" paint (like automotive paint) and paint designed for high heat. There is such a thing as oven paint or microwave paint or cast iron stove paint: They are made to withstand high heat and avoid emitting toxic gases in high heat. Pro painters also know that when one is trying to paint a patch, feathering it in smoothly with existing glossy paint (like on any appliance), it is necessary to lightly sand the existing glossy paint with a fine grit sandpaper (like 220) so that the new paint adheres well with the old paint and does not flake off later. It's the same principle used to resurface roads, glue nonporous materials, etc. For all these reasons, I really appreciated a different UA-cam video "How to repaint inside your microwave - fix interior rust and peeling." I'm not related or friends with that UA-camr -- I just think he did the job right, matched the original color well, and produced a result that would not have to be redone later.
Some friends just gave me a microwave they had in storages..it looked really clean but when I looked at the top I noticed several rust spots..smaller then those..thank you I'm going to fix them how you showed it...and leave door open after using 😊
My god if mine looked that good right now, I would be thrilled. I think the customer could probably fix it themselves if they had half a brain. But you were the wonderful person that took care of it. So you got a few bucks and in the process taught us some good tricks. Thank you thank you thank you.
Thanks my microwave has a 1 inch hole at the bottom due to corrosion, how do I fix it, can put in a bathroom filler and then paint it with the substance that you just used? thanks
Liked the video and knowledge how to repair. I have only had my midea microwave for a year and rust has really set in. Just hope I can get the paint you suggest here in South Africa.
Seasider48 / Enamel Appliance touch-up paint is available from most appliance part distributors, often in a small brush-on bottle. That is probably the best product to use, however I don't think it varies much in content from the rustoleum product. Since its unlikely that you will have any food contact with the product unless it flakes off and gets into the food, but that would be bad no matter what product you use. Thetefore, it is always advisable to cover your food while cooking it, and inspect the cavity when you are cleaning it for signs of loose paint.
This may be for legal reasons and it may or may not be a hazard. However, it's not designed and tested for that use, It may have lead in it or something and if a flake or chip fell into an open container, well that would not be good. I guess it depends. My rust is a small spot on the bottom of the microwave under the rotating platter, so I might risk it but I wish there was some sort of silicone sealant . I think silicone is pretty inert and suitable for high temps.
Is it safe to use the microwave if a part of the paint had been chipped off about 2x2inches in size? The location of the area is at the panel below on the left facing the oven (the door is open).
So use the same kind of paint that you used on the inside as you would on the outside for the door area is would that be correct or could I just use some something like some caulk and just rub it over the rest of the area make sure the rest area is clean real good and nice smooth area and take some clear Caulking and just kind of rub over that to make it like a rubber coating would that work as also? Where could I even use some high temp Thermo paint that gray stuff should I use that to?
what is triggering the flame coming out of the side, the only place rusted is a very thin line at the door opening, even tho' I wipe it and put an absorbant cloth under the glass plate
Can you appliance paint from a spray can spray it into something then brush it on. Would it be a good safe idea to use Rust-Oleum rusty metal primer brush paint first? Thank you!!!
I noticed on the right side panel, looking in, there's a square ( approx. 4"x4") looking unfinished spot at 0:52. What is it and is it supposed to be like that. The reason I ask is that I noticed a spot like that in mine.
I'm trying to attempt to repair my microwave on my own. My microwave still works but the paint is chipping off. The damage is at the bottom floor of the turntable. My issue is that the repair is not just a mere spot here and there like in your video, so I don't think a small bottle is sufficient. When buying the paint should I get the same paint like you have but in more quantity or does it only come in that small bottle? I am not also able to read the bottle that you showed in the video. There is too much shadow inside the microwave for me to read it just by the lamp light you have. It was too dark. There's a Walmart close to my home. What paint should I ask for? Thanks
Nweisha Ng The paint is automotive touch-up paint made by Rustoleum, available in the automotive section. if the rust is in the dolly groove, try to make the repaired area as smooth as possible.
There is no way I would use a microwave that had been painted/scraped rust off. Toxic fumes is NOT a good thing. just buy a new every now and then . Your health is was costlier if you get sick
Yes Emmanuel. My family ruined the paint under the carousel by overflowing soup or something over the tray and not cleaning it up. It pooled there unnoticed for days, during which the paint came off and it started to rust. We're remodeling the whole house, so once I discovered and drained it, fixing it was not our highest priority for months. There has been no change in its performance or safety since then. We're only now getting around to fixing it.
Hi. My microwave is rusting along most of the bottom back seam; it appears they didn't put enough paint on seam, so there is a nice rust line running nearly the entire width of the inside of the microwave. Do you have any suggestions for rust in that particular area or would the procedure be the same?
THATSMYNAME : Sorry gor that. Since I have a cleft pallete, I count myself fortunate to be able to speak as clrarly as I do. You should hear how bad it is when I dont compensate for it. I just hope the video content was helpful, even if my voice was unbearable.

ashish ganjewar yes, you can use it. but you will need to mask the areas where the vent holes are, and mask the wave guide (thats usually a piece of plastic or mica sheet that covers where the magnetron antenna is). Do your cleaning and preperation, spray your affected areas, then let it dry with the door open a minimum of 24 hours before you use it.
SDU-Tango It shouldn't, as long as you let the paint cure for 24 hours before using your micro. The paint needs time for solvent and carriers to evaporate as part of the normal curing process. the remaing paint should be similar to what the manufacturer used originally.
TRUE. If it has rusted all the way through its way 2 late..Dont have to throw it away though. Check out cool projects to do with scrap microwave on youtube. oh yea.... and buy a new microwave
manoj prakash: Usually, the base metal is silver, however once it rusts, it becomes brownish in color. If you are doing spot repair, you only need to remove all the loose paint and loose rust scale. the metal is not very thick. if you attempt to grind on it, you could accidentally grind through, which is not repairable.
@@christopherfoote3395 thanks. I ended up using some oven repair paint and it just rusted again. It was trapping a lot of moisture in. We bought a new one.
Shalandra Collins I have not tried a full scale re-spray, but I think that if you had it thoroughly cleaned, scuffed the old paint with steel wool a little, and masked the wave guide, door and vent areas, you could use Rustoleum spray enamel sucessfully.
This is wrong method. You must sand down the rust first and make sure the paint is microwave paint. Normally grey. But this guy is doing a white inside which is different. You can get a microwave paint kit on eBay.

I e-mailed Rustoleum web site about which of their paints to use inside a microwave. They said none of their paints were suitable for the interior.

Why wouldn't you sand the rust off first ? It's gonna come back really soon with an improper prep.
Would it be a good idea to use a rust conversion treatment on the metal before painting?
He didn't even sand it first it's gonna be back asap
Does your paint can say explicitly that it is OK to use a microwave? Microwave paint has to be temperature resistant as well as food safe.

you should not use that U5005C paint for this. They make paint specifically for microwave cavities.
my micro wave has rust damage and a hole in it. is there anything i can do to fill the hole?
