I remember when this came out, I was nine years old. Even then I could see how this was an amazing, delicate, and poetic piece of music.
According to wikipedia , Castles Made of Sand was recorded at Olympic Sound Studios in London on October 29, 1967. Produced by Chas Chandler and engineered by Eddie Kramer.
For this song I used a new amp that i'm very excited about . It's the Paul Reed Smith
HD/XA 100 amplifier , a production version of a prototype that I demonstrated on youtube a couple of years ago.

Paul never stops improving his work and this amps shows that resolve. It sounds great!
The guitar i'm using is a Michael Tuttle strat. Tuttle is a very small independent builder in Valencia, California.
Hope you enjoy the video , Tim

If this song was all Hendrix ever did, we'd still be talking about Hendrix.
Well said
Very insightful. It's universal poetry played on 🎸.
That's a fact.
Oh man. That solo… even though it’s your improv, I had to learn it. It sounds so brutal so powerful so viscous so good. By learning it I learned so much about soloing and upped my own skills. Thank you sir! Hats off.
dang, nice job!
How did you learn it? Slowing the vid down or tabs?
@@jleftjpl5511I learned it to and just slowed the video down, shit was brutal though highly don’t recommend
Tim, you're about the only guy I can think of that has the touch to be able to play Hendrix. Beautiful playing...cheers
See: Randy Hansen
John mayer / srv?
John frusciante
To be honest with allot of practice its not so difficult to play hendrix songs or in his style, the real crazy thing in my opinion is, that jimi invented his style of playing, thats really crazy
@@Miki-xh6fb Jimi was ahead of his time.
It really is amazing how unique, creative and innovative Hendrix was. Sad he's gone.
Every time I watch one of Tim’s videos I simultaneously want to play guitar 12 hours a day for the rest of my life and never pick one up ever again.
I have learned what I know about playing guitar over the internet. I've subscribed to many a site, bought lessons from bluesguitarunleashed, licklibrary (most expensive), texas blues alley, privatetricker or something like that and countless others. Where the hell were you? You are without a doubt the best, most patient, and unpretentious teacher ever. I have learned without any stress at all more from you in the last day and a half than in the 5-6 years preceding. Thank you, thank you and thank you again!
Such a beautiful song, one of my favorites by Hendrix.
Hi Tim, Man what can I say, you have changed my whole out look at playing the guitar. So inspiring to see and watch you play. You're awesome and subscribed to your link. You know, I wasn't a Hendrix fan for I guess you would say because of my upbringing. I'm watching you play now , Hey Joe, What amp or pedals do you recommend to get the sounds I'm hearing.I see Matchless in the back ground and other stuff. I am playing with a Fender supersonic, 60 watt combo, which I really like. Hope I hear back from you. My email is, mpa4982@gmail.com. I would love to send you some pictures I have of some of my guitars I have made from scratch. Not a kit. Body, neck and everything else.
I've been playing Hendrix for about forty years but that first 60 seconds....
Fuck, that makes my hairs stand on end.
Fantastic.
Tim.. I use to play all of Hendrix's songs. I am starting to play them again. Thanks for the refresher lesson,I love Jimi's style and he never knew what 9th's and 13th's chords were. But he played them all. Thanks Tim.
My Dad played this for me over 55 years ago - still brings tears to my eyes .
Tim you really are the man when it comes to showing how to play and specific song lessons I’ve always found the way you explain and show how a song is played so easy to get my head around.....thanks so much for sharing a song I loved as a teen in the seventies.
How can I give this 5 thumbs up !??....
You can only get as brilliant as this by having a genuine love for this astonishing music, and a sincere respect for the genius who created it - all that shines through Tim's inspiring and humble recreations... world class
Thanks Tim ,your lessons always give me a "lift" ,so many great little phrases to use to spice up my playing . Cheers David
Hendrix for mortals!
Great lesson Tim, one that I'll be coming back to for sure.
You are amazing to figure this out and clearly and modestly lay it on us here ! I'm 70 years old and can recall seeing him in an old red velvet type opera house in Ottawa Canada , lighter fluid and all , close proximity at about 16 years old . You simply have no idea how much he is doing at the time . Your skill and effort is also an exceptional experience for me .
that solo in the beginning melted my brain , wow... I thought I was decent at guitar but after seeing that I realize I have so much to learn thanks
Tim, there are so many things that I love about your playing and lessons but I need to express how much I appreciate your honesty around cramping fingers (which I get a lot when trying new things repetitively) and flubbed notes (which I also do too much of), and the need to not do so. Your playing is so impeccable and clean and honest that it gives me chills, as well as the realization that I have a lot of work to do, while appreciating what a great artist is capable of. You make me want to play better, not just learn songs and licks. Great Thanks for all you do with your videos, as well as your contribution to so much music. Thanks.again. You Really Rock!
Fantastic format on explaining the nuances of playing it.... Thank you Tim!!!
When I close my eyes I hear Hendrix, beautiful job Tim !
Thanks so much for taking the time and effort to put up such a detailed (yet straight forward) lesson. Your teaching style is spot on...taking bite sized licks and "let me put that in context for you." Brilliant !! Thanks so much !!
You've probably forgotten more, than most will ever learn. I look forward to more videos, and thanks for all that you do!
What a wonderful gift, you play so well.
What a totally awesome solo, Dude! I've been playing probably about as long as you have, and you just rocked my world. Thanks for sharing.
Tim, your playing and teaching are inspiring! Thank you for everything you do.
Man, when Tim breaks down like a single barre, you can just still hear how masterful he is on the guitar. Like he just touches the thing differently.
Just Awesome! Thanks Tim for making this beautiful music accessible. Yeah, it wasn't hard for him!
Amazing lesson 👏🏻 finally getting this song down because of this video!
Jimi Hendrix walked up to my grandfather Clarence White at Whiskey-a-go-go down in LA and said he was a fan; I can't stop learning Hendrix; he lays a great foundation for growing your own knowledge of connections on the fretboard
Tim, thanks for all your videos! You're helping my Jimi covers immensely!
That opening lead is tremendous. Thank-you! It sounds like you change keys for each chord change. Unusual.
You make it easy to understand, you are a good teacher, thanks for the info!
Thanks Tim for taking the time to present an awesome lesson.
All the best,
Allan
this.song.is.so.beautiful. Thanks for laying it out so nicely! Easy to follow, great tone, superb teaching!

Tim, thanks for sharing. I always wanted to learn this song. You breaking down like you did made it easy to digest. Love your channel.
Tim you do the best Hendrix playing on UA-cam. Just perfect
That was the closest I’ve ever heard
I’ve always loved that tune but never heard it played live .
Can’t imagine why
Well done
Man alive he's good.
Doesn’t the “trill” do a minor third instead of a half step?
Mr. Pierce...you are indeed a master; Thanks for sharing these lessons.
Simply awesome. A truly fantastic lesson.
And a face-melting intro as always...
Wish you were my brother and we played in the same band Tim. You are a great teacher. We can all play something fast, but everything you play, you can play in any tempo. That makes you great teacher. You seem to love to show your talent and are very humble.
WOOW!!! THAT WAS SO AMAZING!!!!

Great lesson, thank you! Your instruction is very clear and is inspiring me to tackle a tune I've wanted to learn for a while now.
thank you Tim!! thank you for making this so easily accessible! I don't always fully trust what I'm figuring out. But cheating with your breakdown, I could focus more on the rythm and feel, which becomes the bulk if the Hendrix sound. Thanks for the hands up on this one!
Wow. You really outdid yourself on this one Tim. Incredible.
