I was there too, first time I saw Slipknot and they well and truly blew me away. Possibly the best live performance I've ever witnessed. The video doesn't do it justice, but it's a nice piece of nostalgia all the same.
Yep, me too. Best live show I've ever witnessed regarding energy/sheer excitement and I've seen seen loads of metal bands.
I'm from Australia but was working in London at a dodgy internet cafe. I was 20. My friend won 2 tickets to this show on a radio comp and generously took me. Yay! We caught the train out there and from memory the walk from the trainstation into the venue was lined with religious nuts handing out flyers warning of the danger of the devil music. Lol. From memory I think there was also a blimp with an anti devil-worshipping message on it. The energy of the day was very intense. One of the bands (I can't remember which) had the whole audience chant 'FUCK! FAMILY! FUCK! FAMILY! FUCK! FAMILY!' and I was like 'wow - uk metalheads are pretty full on'. I can't remember tooooo much of Sabbath because I was in the centre of the pit and there was a HUGE joint being passed around amongst strangers and it got me stoned af, but I became weirdly fixated on Ozzy in his rediculous sparkly glitter cape with a glitter skull on it - he looked rediculous and I couldn't stop laughing. I still have pieces of the confetti pape tape that got blown from cannons with the sabbath logo on them. Things escalated after the show ended and suddenly there was about 100 (maybe more or less?) small fires lit on the grass throughout the entire bowl and people were aggro and hurling - not gently throwing - HURLING glass bottles far into the crowd. I saw a skinhead head get bottled on the back of his head and he spun around READY TO KILL and we were like 'ok - time to goooo!'....as we were walking out in the dark past the portaloo's there were a bunch of around 6 guys that tipped a portaloo over....what we didnt realise was the door suddenly flung open and an irate 6"4 man covered HEAD TO TOE IN HUMAN SHIT burst out of the dunny like he was on fire...swinging his arms around ready to murder the nearest person to him!!! It was fuckin scary and the crowd scattered quickly. Best gig ever. Heaps good memories

Can you just imagine seeing Slipknot right before Iowa dropping and they open with People = Shit? People must’ve been shitting their pants when they heard it. I seriously envy anybody that seen them in their early years.
Indeed you are correct. I was there in the pit and it was absolutely thumping; such unreal relentless energy, scary at times! Most exciting, best band I've ever seen to this day and I've seen loads of metal bands.
Not only was I there, I caught Sid when he did his high altitude crowd dive.
The entire day was nuts... Tool, Disturbed, Mudvayne, Zakk Wylde and of course Sabbath.. One of the best days of my life.

I was there, it was fucking insane. Bear in mind the only new song we had heard was The Heretic Anthem (which was downloadable in demo form as "The Heretic Song" from slipknot1.com a few weeks before). I also saw them the previous year on the Self Titled tour cycle, and remember how much more polished they looked and sounded at this gig (new jumpsuits, different masks, pyro etc.). Peak Slipknot IMO. Good times!

17 year old me was in that pit. ❤ I remember Corey Taylor coming on earlier in the day to do jumpdafuckup with Soulfly and the pit went MENTAL. It was an EPIC day, but feels like a lifetime ago now ❤️

He still had his self titled scream during the Iowa cycle. He just chose not to do them. But during 2002 his vocals were dying out during stone sour 2003 untill vol. 3
I was there in the pit; was a crazy show, total mayhem! Was some good bands on the bill but most people had come to see Slipknot who were in their prime at this point in my opinion. Will never forget the crazy anticipation and excitement building before they went onstage, best band I've ever seen the energy was awesome at this show. Great upload!

In 2004 I was only 8 when my father recorded on the VHS people = shit live at london on the mtv, I was blown alway, I had never seen anything like this, such an energy... So I cannot imagine how was it like to listen to people = shit for the first time in live 2001.. Ohh lord It must have been something...
@@xitoroman I certainly feel privileged yeah. Overall the most exciting band I've ever seen live; the anticipation before they came on stage, well you cant describe it because it was such incredible euphoria. Slipknot were at their most exciting at this point, still fairly 'new'.

Glad you are back! Do any IOWA 2001 Proshots exist that aren't uploaded, apart from the Florida show that aired on MTV2 (which sadly no one has for sale/trade). Some Brazilian guy told me he has that show on VHS from MTV Brazil though hah.

@@fur4864 Somerset 2001 is only a barricade angle. the ozzfest shows from 2001 isn't proshots they are just barricade or stage angles getting shot by Hi8 camaras

I was there! 16 years old, my first ever gig, wasn't in the pit long, i went down and a huge goth parted the crowd like Moses and pulled me to my feet. Watched the rest from a safer distance! I haven't seen Slipknot since, have tickets for the O2 this year just before Christmas, cant wait!
Sabbath on this night was something special. Ill never forget it.

At this show Sid came down to the front row and headbuttet me full force three times. I remember I noticed he had a pierced tongue (he screamed in my face right before he headbutted me, lol). I was wearing a gas mask and makeup (like he used to these days), so I guess it was some kind of test from him (he was quite crazy in the early days) but have no idea, and think my young self passed, because after the shock of the first headbutt, I just headbutted back for the last two.Always wondered after if he did it as a test, or because he was kind of pissed at me for copying him or just because he was crazy, lol. Fucked up my jaw somehow, but it was the coolest thing I ever experienced at a concert. What a time to be young it was

Oh man, thank you! I was 13 at Ozzfest UK, my second gig and first festival. Not a bad way to be broken in. Still have the T Shirt. For a Nu Metal kid the line up for this show was insane - Black Sabbath, Tool, Slipknot, Disturbed, Soulfly, Mudvayne, Amen - Oh good times. Some obese, sweaty greb punched me square in the face during the Mudvayne pit but aside from that the crowd were pretty supportive if someone fell down (which the entire audience did during Soulfly's Jump Da Fuck Up. Papa Roach played too but I wasn't into them and haven't been since.

@@TheBritishBachelor Yes they were; mega hyped up but played a dreadful show! Most of the band's were good, Slipknot being the best. I remember the Amen show was violent, they smashed their guitars up at the end of the set! Was also a mega hot day with plenty of bottles flying around.

So sad my parents did not even meet each other when slipknot was in their prime. if you got to be at these shows your lucky and don't realize how much your are. Back when Corey used the improper technique sounded so much but it ruins his voice. he was actually just compressed yelling.
Slipknot korn and limp Bizkit will always be the best nu metal bands.
