I am 50 years old and never listened to Metallica. And I consider myself a pretty educated music lover. You guys are sharing music and bringing people together, it's amazing to watch and read all the comments from people of all ages and backgrounds! Your grandpa did a great job raising you. You have a beautiful heart and I know your grandpa is so very proud of you!! Keep moving forward. ❤️❤️

Donna M Schiele so well said! I am 54 and never really listened to ‘heavy metal’. This song was so incredible and it just shows how music (even instrumental) is a universal language that binds people together. Working through the pain of loss is one of those universal human experiences. Tim, sharing your vulnerability with your fans is very touching, and really just shows your humanity. Much love to you and your family. 💕

Most of the world’s modern love fests have come from music. That’s what friends are for provided funding for AIDS research, Michael Jackson asked top star musicians to leave their egos at the door and Feed The World, John Cougar Mellencamp brought everyone together for farm aid, and the whole world all fell in love with Queen and Freddie Mercury at Live Aid. I think the world could use that now. Maybe a fully Internet version to keep everyone safe from Coronavirus all the musicians could be in secluded studios or their home studios and live feed it. If ever there was a time for another Heal The World, it’s now.

This song is Grief, Anger and Mourning. It is emotion captured in sound. 3 young men mourning the death of their brother. I like to think its an instrumental because they could not put their grief and pain into words. They let the music talk for them.
Im sorry to hear what your going through. Remember. You have a gift, connecting to music so deeply is something not everyone is capable of. I pity them. To listen to something as sinister and beautiful as this and feel nothing.
They rarely play this song live. It is just to painful. I think that is testament to the song.

My advice, having gone through this. Ask your grandfather about his early life and any questions that you can think. Record him on your cell. Those talks will become invaluable and make sure you store them on the cloud in case your cell goes down. This is a great gift you can give him and yourselves. Don't treat him any differently and definitely don't pity him. You kind of have to buck it up just like you did early on in this video. Just make everything the same for him as you possibly can. Then you can cry after you see him. You're such a good young man. Short term is very difficult for him right now and eventually long term will be as well. But right now, spend as much time as you can and record videos and audio as as much as you can. Blessings on you and your whole family! You to have brought me a lot of encouragement during this time of my life. Keep it up!

Don't be sorry for your pain--let it out and you'll feel cleansed. It will come in waves. I just lost one of my younger brothers August 3. I'll spare the details, but he was barely a shell of his former self. It was horrible hearing the weakness in his voice the last I spoke with him. We talked about music all the time. Your posts are helping me grieve and bringing back sweet memories. Much love to you and your family. You and your brothers now have the opportunity to be his legacy of love and leadership. ❤

I'll bet they couldn't have imagined the love they would get from all over the world!!! What a blessing. One thing that strikes me most, especially in these troubled times we live in, is when I read the comments, the reactions from white, black, brown young and old!!!! Its AMAZING to me and reminds me that we are all connected and we ARE capable of exploring others interest and cultures and able to enjoy and connect to one another. Which let's me know the problem is not us as a human race the problem is the mouth pieces we put in POWER!!! We are not divided by instinct we are divided by manipulation. I ADORE YOU KIDS!!! Raised by my Dad (only sibling has severe autism and nonverbal). My Dad physically abused me and my brother punched often told me I was stupid and daily said I couldn't do anything right. Here's the hope: I left home at 15 but as an adult we got closer he was like a new person. Still wasn't nurturing but not angry. He suddenly got cancer and was on oxygen took off his mask to say something I never heard, "You're doing EVERYTHING right I am proud of you." He improved enough to get off oxygen and laugh at my jokes. As he sat with his hospital scrambled eggs getting cold and wouldn't eat I got him to laugh and eat with a song: a parody of Yesterday by John Lennon with Jimmy Fallon called "Scrambled Eggs" check it out:)

The raw emotion shown and verbalized shows a deep appreciation of not only the music, but how it touches us all. Most of us can appreciate and relate to the songs that we listen to, but this MAN just poured his soul out to us in front of a camera for all to see. Props to you for doing so. I feel for your anguish over your grandfather and for your other family. Keep your head up. Well done.

Just found your channel tonight. I started watching and was hooked right away. I got very, very emotional. Had tears and smiles of joy. How can such great music just fade away with its generation, when there was so much humanity that went onto so much original stuff? And it is still so moving and relevant and powerful? The BEST part is seeing your genuine reactions, guys, because you are so open hearted and real. My grandmother meant the world to me, too. I felt how much you love your wonderful grandfather. Thank you for not editing that out. Feelings like that are what life is all about at its best, and when love is that sure and real, even death can't take it away from your heart. You are a beautiful soul and I am grateful for YOU.

I’ve always liked the interpretation that this song during the heavy parts was meant to represent the band in the beginning of their career and then the sudden interlude is them dealing with the death of cliff, and then the transition to the heavy parts again is them continuing to press on after his death and to honor the legacy he left

I always thought of this song in that way. Isn't that weird? It just sounds like they're going strong and they keep getting stronger and then it cuts short and gets sad and then it builds back up again to Triumph.

Yup. Music does not need lyrics to have meaning....after all its call MUSIC. Not LYRICS.

It's amazing to see people just now discover a band that my friends and I discovered in the 80's. I'm so glad to see that they are being recognized for what they really were.... Rock symphony. Every album is it's own opera. My friends and I were seen as outcast for listening to music like this while almost everyone else were listening to hair metal poprock...,but we knew then that we were listening to something special that would never be re-created. Metallica created pure musical works of art that will be discovered new by many people for centuries to come.

The emotions you’re feeling will soon lead to a feeling of peace. I’m probably twice your age, but I only recently started to understand what people mean when they say loved ones never die. After losing my grandmother who had a hand in raising me 3 years ago, I find that these days, I never feel anything but joy when I remember the things she enjoyed or something silly she might have said. Only the good memories last. Trust me on that!
The best way to honor your grandfather is to try to be the man he saw in you and do what he did...step up one day when someone else is down and out. You can keep it personal or maybe even establish a charity in his honor that raises money to displaced youth. Whatever you choose, take his conscience with you...because he sounds like he was a brave, honorable man who did what he felt was right when things weren’t all right in your family. You can honor him perfectly by being that someone else.
I can already see and hear that his guidance helped produce someone conscientious enough to realize the sacrifice he made in his golden years. Cherish the memories and when you face conflict, ask yourself what your grandfather would have done if he were in your shoes. If you stay true to his spirit and true to yourself, you can never truly be wrong and you’ll be blessed with peace for the rest of what I hope is a long, healthy and successful life. You have all the tools you need, young man. Take your time to grieve...and when you’re ready, become master of your own destiny and live a life that would make your grandfather proud. I’m sure he was already more proud of you than you’ll ever know.
You’re going to be at peace with his passing very soon, but don’t ever forget him.
    Be well, young man!

This is mindfulness...when you close your eyes and just listen to where the music takes you and how the same piece of music effects everyone differently and sometimes the same. It is very emotional and takes you to a place that surprises you

Bud, you're on a full blown musical journey. Hearing things that you may have never thought twice about before now. It's great to see you getting swept up in the tunes that previous generations jammed to. You may not have known what Metallica was doing playing this particular song and the story behind it, but it sure seems to have hit home. Play it loud, let your thoughts go wild and let the feelings flow. It's alright and we thank you for having us along on your journey.
