Thanks for watching!!! What show or film would you like me to cover next???
Creed 3
Ooh im seeing it Thursday! Cant wait to talk about that series
I always believed that the reason this show stirred up such controversy was that it was authentic. The characters are heightened versions of modern young adults living in a major city. Nobody was prepared for the mirror that it held up. Adam and Hannah are not nice people, but their conceits are common. Anyhow, I loved this scene when I watched it originally, and I am really grateful to you for dissecting it and bringing it back around. This is what happens when you treat love carelessly! You can't always get it back.
In terms of the show, yeah I think a lot of people are uncomfortable with just how UNglamorous it all is. It's kind of the ANTI sex and the city almost.
@@TheWritersBlockOfficial Yeah, even Jessa - the truly beautiful one and the freest spirit - is sort of repulsive by the end of the show. HBO was designed to be sexy, so this was a bait and switch.
it stirred up controversy because men that hot don't fall for toads. I'm a toad. it's just not believable which makes it stupid
What you didn't cover is that Adam has a father complex. He was devastated and broke up with one of his exes when he learned she had aborted his child. He loves his little nierce fiercely. He never wanted to go back to Hannah specifically; he finally wanted to be a father.
True. Thats a great point
He didn't break up with Mimi Rose after the abortion, she broke up with him cuz she just wanted time alone.
@@bluenomadbruh Oh, ok. Maybe I had misunderstood that or forgotten in the meantime.
Father - Bad Boy daytype
Then he shouldn't have cheated
I never watched this show. I just watched the scene with the soup, and the womans acting was absolutely magnificent. The last time I've seen someone cry so emotionally was Will Smith in "The pursuit of happiness"
I don't remember the episode off the top of my head, but there's a moment that stuck with me above all the rest. The main GIRLS all go to a vacation house as a girls trip, but things start to get tense when some of them invite boys over and none of the planned activities end up happening. It's sort of a boiling point for all the resentments each of them have towards one another, and the vacation is absolutely ruined. So after the weekend is thoroughly ruined and all four of them are sitting on the curb waiting for the bus, they just one by one start to do parts of the dance choreography one of the boys taught them. And without any words, it just sort of capture the complicated nature of friendships and forgiveness. That sort of succinct yet subtle storytelling is what continuously brought me back to the series, even when I was annoyed with the characters decisions or arcs
@@TheWritersBlockOfficial The Beach House, beautiful scene
Its so fascinating to see someoes take who didn’t watch the show and still feel that emotion
Eh, Cuck Smith's cry at the Oscar's was more believable.
That’s Lena Dunham, who also created and wrote for the show. Not only a good actress but a brilliant writer too
Damn, I loved this show. It was such a MOMENT. Adam and Hannah were so amazing to watch.
The way you're describing this show makes me want to watch it so much, but I the same time, I don't think I can handle the emotions.
It's a lot. Plus almost every episode could inspire an "am I the a hole" post, so watching alone can be tough cause you want to bounce ideas of others like "woah he is so in the wrong there right?"
@@TheWritersBlockOfficial LMAO this is the BEST way to describe this show "Every single episode would lead to a reddit AITA or WIBTA post" HAHAHAHA
I actually already knew the story behind this meme but that was a stellar analysis of these relationships!
I only wanted to know where good soup came from... Now i'm on episode 3. Your story telling is imaculate 😁
Thank you sir!
Glad i could introduce you to a new show!
True I just wanted to know where the quote came from but now I'm considering watching it
i literally binged this entire show because of this vid, I didn't realize that I'd actually fall in love to Adam and Hannah. But I think Jessa and Adam have a promising future together, even if the beginning was rocky. I think jessa brought up Hannah all the time because she loved the taboo nature of their relationship. She believed Adam pursuing her romantically, despite the inevitable social fallout, proved his immense love for her. But i think while Adam was attracted to Jessa, he was secretly thrilled by a chance to make Hannah jealous.
I think Jessa and Adam loved how openly volatile they could be with each other, there was no pressure to pretend to be in a normal, "grown-up" relationship. But I think Hannah was the *only* thing they could have explosive fights over. Hannah was the only thing they ever fought over, they got along very well otherwise.
I appreciate that the show kind of subverts the usual trope of making everyone sympathetic to some degree. Girls actively portrays the vast majority of its cast as hot messes, and asks you to find what issues, idiosyncrasies, and red flags you can tolerate while still seeing good/potential in someone. It's a fascinating show and weirdly reminds me a lot of Barry. Two wildly different Genres, but both very much the same in how the examine people's flaws
This author deserves more subscribers. Thank you, The Writer's Block, you made me interested in a story I've never cared about before. Good voiceover with a well put together text. (oh, and montage!)
Thank you so much! I'm growing steadily, and learning how to more consistently game the algorithm while maintaining quality content. Ih hope to be one of the heavy hitters in the video essay space one day, but until then, im just happy to know my work is meaningful to even a few people
Best breakdown I’ve seen yet! Such an amazing show. So much complexity behind each character. Great analysis!
Thank you so much!
omg, thank you so much for this! You put to words all the feelings I couldn't express after watching the show)) I was wondering if adam and Jessa stayed together and you gave me the answer) thank youuuuuuuu! wonderful job and a great choice of beautiful english words))
So glad it resonated with you!!!
"Loving someone inherently gives them a level of power over you", daym, that's an inevitable truth
thank you for this 🙏🏽💗
My pleasure!
Perfect analysis! Love this show
Thank you! It's very clearly my worst performing video (what do you mean a show that ended in 2017 isn't trending haha) but I'm really proud of how it came out and think its probably my best made on a technical level. Even if it doesn't get out to a lot of people. I'm really happy that the people who find it and watch it all seem to really connect with it!
I recently rewatched the show and didn't hate it as much ass i did the first time. I noticed these kinds of moments on this rewatch and think that's one of the reasons why the show was different. A lot of negative space with the characters for the audience to fill in. I watched it first 5 years ago and do think it'll age into one of those shows that get more relatable becoming an adult and learning lessons.
Girls was such a good series. Not a fan of the creator, but she did a great job with it.
Yeah that's the ONE thing that gets me with this show. It always feel like Hannah's actions aren't given the same level of critique by the narrative. Because she's played by the creator, it feels like she's held less accountable
Laird deserves an award for his acting in this area ahahahah
Please do this for all memes from now on
"Why Can haz cheezeborger is Deeper than you think..."
Wow, that was really interesting, thank you
So glad you enjoyed it. I knew this would be less successful in terms of views, but it seems to have an impact with those who actually watch it which is great!
the writing on this show is so underrated. I know it's hip to rag on lena dunham, but she's very talented.
Her actions and public image are controversial, but undoubtedlh her work is high quality. If peiple dont feel comfortable engaging with her qork i understand, but from a purely artistic standpoint, shes done some really amazing /impactful stuff
i love this show because of how in-depth and realistic almost every character is. There is no good guy or bad guy. They are all just people with good and bad qualities that fuck up sometimes, just like real people.
This show was really amazing
You should do pulp fiction next, it’s a small, underground indie film that not many people have heard of
Thanks Dylan!
Anytime
Dude, I'd never even heard this meme, I thought it was a movie where Adam Driver was a food critic or something, wtf. This explains why I couldn't find anything on IMDb when you shared the thumbnail in that community post. XD
Hah, I could see how that would be confusing. Also, that's a movie role I'd love to see him in honestly
@@TheWritersBlockOfficial Pig meets Ratatouille. He's a man that hates his life because the magic of food is gone and nobody can satisfy his taste buds, but he meets a sentient lima bean that changes his world and makes some 👌"Good Soup!"
I had heard of this show, but have never bothered to watch it, maybe I will now
Its solid comedy/drama. Occasionally certain characters can become grating or annoying to watch but thats by design. Theres som really brilliant writing and filmmaking throught the 6 seasons
Subtext! The most important words of a story are the ones that aren't said.
Precisely!
U deserve so many more subs wtf
Thank you! Hopefully one day
beautiful examination of a relationship
Thank you!
I think im just gonna watch this and wonder , 'when is the soup scene coming in???'
Now i want to watch girls
It's a fun watch. I binged it over last summer. The main thing I struggled with is the show doesn't hold the main character accountable, and sometimes that feels like the point, and other times it feels like it's due to the main actress also being the creator of the series. It's the type of show that can be very polarizing, but it's undeniably well crafted and if you like PB&J, then this will be your jam
In all honesty, this was the only believable scene in the whole episode since the rest of it felt like fan service. I believe Adam wanted the ready made family that came with a pregnant Hannah to compensate for the one that was lost to him when Mimi Rose aborted his child and told him after the fact. Not Hannah herself. Since Adam & Hannah went through so much together and apart it, would've been more cathartic if they spent the episode having that closure talk between exes because they had so much to get off their chests and for them, there was no going back.
Commenting for engagement.
Thanks
i dont really care about this show, but i ended up watching the whole thing, nice vid.
Thanks!
Omg this was hard to watch
Soup is before the real meal
''good soup''
thanks youtube. very cool
Did this randomly pop up in your feed for no reason?
Supposedly adam was based off of sam hyde
Has anyone done an analysis of this show through the lens of Autism, cause every one of these so-called narcissists strike me as Autistic.
Theres definitely a reading of many of these characters that suggests their not neurotypical. I think theres a lot of interesting discussions to be had regarding that and how it either does or doesnt recontextualize their actions and behaviors
@@TheWritersBlockOfficial as a neurodivergent cinephile who is coming to terms with the con "neurotypicalness" has pulled on the rest of us, i find it endlessly fascinating seeing representation of people struggling to cope in a world that's decided to specialise in one operating system. Sure, we could shoulder the burden of installing a translation layer (like proton does for the steam deck, allowing it to run windows games on linux) but in an ideal world we would meet in the middle, both sides learning parts of each other's process so nobody gets the bigger mental load.
Thank you for reading, I know it's abstract and tangential but, I think there's something down this rabbit hole. One of the keys to unlocking a better future for everyone. Much love x
ps. if you watch Schitt's Creek through the lens that everyone is a different flavour of autistic it slaps, especially since it's never acknowledged so normalisation is subtle baked into the world-building.
Or maybe the soup was just that good.
*inception tuba blares*
I can't imagine how much damage she would do to him over time...
Everyone knows none of this is real right?
What point are you trying to make??
Hand eat dinner with lunch look men withe black no way
I always thought a nuclear holocaust would have been the only appropriate ending to this series. Dunham inadvertently created the perfect support for anti-natalism. The characters were uniformly horrid and rooting for the cockroach to take over as the next rung in the evolutionary ladder seemed like the only sane response to Lena Dunham’s creation or Lena Dunham for that matter
The problem with this scene is it's impossible to believe anyone like Adam Driver would want to spend their life with Lena Dunham.
Adam Sackler was a hot wretched mess, but he possessed one bright light within his psyche-- he wasn't a superficial dingdong. The same can't be said about some people. 🙄
@@eme.261 Right, that's why it's difficult to believe he would waste his time with an obnoxious narcissist like her.
Was going to watch the whole seiries but then I remembered that Lena Dunham wrote about sexual abusing her daughter in her book and I think I’ll just get it spoiled here instead
you read books?
