Best movie ever filmed in Texas. Really captures the limo-liberal culture of inner loop Houston. Anderson and Wilson grew up in that culture. At the time this move came out I worked at a place where the rich came in and walked out with product after signing a duplicate receipt. Their people would pay the bill at the end of the month. We had Wes Anderson's mom and Luke and Owen Wilson as regular customers.
@@joepops727 The woman who played Max's teacher after he enrolled in public school at Grover Clevland was an actual teacher at Lamar High School where those scenes were filmed. Lamar is across Westheimer from St. Johns, where the Rushmore scenes were filmed. That real teacher from working class origins was a signature account customer because her hubby was a downwardly mobile rich guy who worked for a major Houston non-profit.

It always cracked me up that Rushmore takes place in Texas. I am born and raised in Texas. I've been around but there is a certain kind of absurdity that this film captures about the upper crust of the Lone Star State that is often missed by the West or East Coast social critics that I can really appreciate from Wes Anderson. This state holds quite a few people of significant taste and refine that hold out strong against the old-boy network and I see that so much in Max Fisher. I wish I had been more like him in High School.
@@stephenm8725 This movie was filmed in Houston and written by two Houstonians. Your "dodgeball" does not exist. Only BOMBARDMENT exists. Kids moving in who say dodgeball fidna have all the balls come their way.
Much of the movie was filmed at St. Johns, in Houston, where Anderson graduated high school. You either get anderson/wilson or anderson comedy or you don't. Favorite line is Hackman in Royal Tenenbaums "but i'm going to live"
The Grover Clevland HS scenes were filmed at Lamar HS, across Westheimer from St John's. The woman who played Max's teacher at that school was an actual Lamar teacher.
I have a good life but grew up really fucking poor and that opening scene was my inspiration to work my ass off. "Get them in the crosshairs and take them down."
Thanks -- I'll try to see this here in France. I live in the birthplace of Communism outside Paris and we have a great library, school, parks, healthcare and transportation system, ha ha! I think it's neat that my younger-than-I Parisian husband is a huge Bill Murray fan. I'd shown him a couple of Murray vehicles I really liked (some where he just had small parts) and he really latched on. I may be able to persuade him to get this over at the médiathèque.
justin herner Well, I just saw a movie from Khazakstan last night in a cinema in Saint-Ouen, France, and it was one of the most powerful and striking, important movies I've ever seen (has HARMONY in the title in English), I look at movies from various countries and I cannot say American movies are best, but there are so many I really love! A pal in the States sent me the movie this clip is from and I didn't care for it! But we loved that Wes Anderson one with the sea quest and he hated that, so there ya go. We liked the one with the boy and the girl and the boys' camp, that was neat. It depends. :)
Maybe not, but I can see where he's coming from. You see, some of us paid attention in English and can appreciate symbolism because of it. And believe it or not, it actually makes the movie MORE enjoyable. So why don't you shut up and pay attention to the finer details. You might like the movie more.
Jacques Henri Lartigue!!! Wes A. also used Lartigue images for inspiration in The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou...and Lartigue's brother was named Zissou...
RUSHMORE is by far one of the best films ever made in existence
PERIOD!!!!
trackalex well that's if you're American right.
His high school plays would for real be absolute hits.

This scene made me a lifelong wes anderson fan. Song is fantastic.
15 years ago… Christ I’m old.
I think I can safely say I've never met anyone like you, Max.
lol at 2:41 "bombardment society founder" as he's chasing everyone with the ball wearing the Suit and Tie. Too funny
aitraining Is Magnus the one he takes out in the Bombardment clip?
he actually nails his buddy, Dirk.
Isn't this just dodgeball?
That's because he's a working-class Jewish boy from the Houston Heights raised by a single father.

Touching. Can u not watch our movies? Wes Anderson is an American filmmaker and I don't think there is anyone comparable in the world. We are the best
