I first heard this song on NHL 2004 when I was 15. I ripped this off of youtube and listened to it alone in my room at the cancer clinic as I recovered from treatments for bone cancer in 2010. Listening to this made me smile for the first time in a long time, because I felt that solitude of being 15 again and I didn't feel alone anymore.
Just like me, at 36 years old I keep listening to it right now while I'm working. I am from Peru, how curious that someone of the same age on the other side of the continent does the same.
I lost my brother to suicide in 2014. Brand New was his favorite band. I lament not playing their songs more with him. This song hit home as he dedicated it to his wife who crushed his heart after only a single year of marriage. I cherish this song and others by the band as one of my only last connections with him. Rest in peace Benjamin Karl. I love you.
And I still love you guys. As an adult. As a mother. Nothing changes over the years. Life gets harder, the lyrics begin to mean something different, you get tired. And the same lyrics that made you cry over your highschool relationship still make you cry over your adult marriage.
Literally same. I remember getting cheated on my sophomore year and weeping in my bed to this song and many others and now as an adult with a career, 2 cars, a partner and a 2 year old the same songs evoke the same emotion. Possibly even stronger because of the nostalgia and the emotional growth. Hope things are good for you
Don't usually comment, but it's been a rough couple weeks. This song came to mind today. Forgot how uplifting (in its own way) and nostalgic this song is. I guess the best feeling is seeing all the love folks exhibit after being reminded of simpler times. Never gets old when a music hits folks in same way🤙
Song still gives me chills to this day. Found it on tiger woods 2004 of all things haha but damn glad I did. Instantly takes me back to being a kid but makes me feel sad at the same time
This is the best acoustic version there is for this song for you history bunks.👍If you can find a refined version of this you are blessed. God bless, we are millennials.
I just graduated high school, Brand New must just be of those bands that remind you of the ups and downs in school. and it helped me get through it as it did too all those people who graduated in the past years. Fuck yeah Brand New.
We saw the western coast I saw the hospital Nursed the shoreline like a wound Reports of lover's tryst Were neither clear nor descript We kept it safe and slow The quiet things that no one ever knows [Chorus: x2] So keep the blood in your head And keep your feet on the ground If today's the day it gets tired Today's the day we drop out Gave up my body and bed All for an empty hotel Wasting words on lower cases and capitals I contemplate the day we wed Your friends are boring me to death Your veil is ruined in the rain By then it's you I can do without There's nothing new to talk about And though our kids are blessed Their parents let them shoulder all the blame [Chorus: x2] So keep the blood in your head And keep your feet on the ground If today's the day it gets tired Today's the day we drop out Gave up my body and bed All for an empty hotel Wasting words on lower cases and capitals [Bridge: x2] I lie for only you And I lie well... Hallelu... [Chorus: x2 (words from bridge continued in the background)] So keep the blood in your head And keep your feet on the ground Today's the day it gets tired Today's the day we drop out Gave up my body and bed All for an empty hotel Wasting words on lower cases and capitals
I take this song to be about dissatisfaction in a relationship, but there's so much that speaks to just being afraid for the future...who wouldn't be able to empathize?
I love that version a lot. I know Brand New from NLH2004 soundtrack and have never heard that version before. I listened to some of their songs a lot long time ago, now I started again, because they always give me feels. I haven't thought that they could suprise me like that. My eyes got wet though...
I get the feeling he should of kept this version personal.. sounds like something you would play for people more close to you in your personal life. so laid back honest emotional, seems something for the more intamate times, but that's what makes jesse so good, he puts it down from the soul and gives u something real to listen to!
this is the recording from when they did mtv's "music in high places", they never brought the album out but scout round the net for it. It is truely an amazing album, i can't believe they didn't turn into an acoustic band after listening to it.
Brand New is amazing. Jesse Lacey is a brilliant lyricist. No band is ever gonna be better. Lol, I'll probably listen to these guys until I die. honestly, I agree. so amazing.

First heard this on nhl 04. Still a regular on my list at 37.

I hope you're doing great now, brother. I understand the nostalgic, comforting part. Best of wishes, man!

You're so right. That's the beauty of music i think, the words, the sound it never changes, but your perception?> it can change all of the time. x
It's life. It takes you in, chews you up, spits you out. But you gotta keep chuggin'. Suga4life, you're not alone. One love.
most comments on songs like are annoying platitudes, yours wasnt

College for me I agree
We saw the western coast
I saw the hospital
Nursed the shoreline like a wound
Reports of lover's tryst
Were neither clear nor descript
We kept it safe and slow
The quiet things that no one ever knows
[Chorus: x2]
So keep the blood in your head
And keep your feet on the ground
If today's the day it gets tired
Today's the day we drop out
Gave up my body and bed
All for an empty hotel
Wasting words on lower cases and capitals
I contemplate the day we wed
Your friends are boring me to death
Your veil is ruined in the rain
By then it's you I can do without
There's nothing new to talk about
And though our kids are blessed
Their parents let them shoulder all the blame
[Chorus: x2]
So keep the blood in your head
And keep your feet on the ground
If today's the day it gets tired
Today's the day we drop out
Gave up my body and bed
All for an empty hotel
Wasting words on lower cases and capitals
[Bridge: x2]
I lie for only you
And I lie well...
Hallelu...
[Chorus: x2 (words from bridge continued in the background)]
So keep the blood in your head
And keep your feet on the ground
Today's the day it gets tired
Today's the day we drop out
Gave up my body and bed
All for an empty hotel
Wasting words on lower cases and capitals
Reminds me of summer 2007 good freaking summer. 2:48 to the end is amazing.
true...and I saw them last thanksgiving in Atlanta...and the energy and the musical ability they bring to every show, is so underrated...
This shit stuck with me for 15 years.. jesse is a god
I take this song to be about dissatisfaction in a relationship, but there's so much that speaks to just being afraid for the future...who wouldn't be able to empathize?
I smell the wood of an acoustic guitar whenever I hear this
James Clone I smell the smell of copper on my fingertips after playing 😍
I like this song better as an acoustic rather than the original
It's very beautiful, but not as powerful.
True for every song ever
melosophical the original makes me want to dance, this version gives me the real feeling it’s supposed to convey, cry...

Lol, I'm living that right now. I constantly fluctuate between Deja and Devil on the bus. I just bought Daisy today and I'm gonna listen to it later.
