I worked with Wayne in the 1974-5 when he had the hit with this song, I remember he turned up some months later in a brand new Ford Cortina with the money he had earnt from the appearances
I was so shocked to hear of Billy's passing,my friend and i used to go and listen to him singing in the pub( the gun).in croydon. They were my teenage days back in 1974/ 75 .loved those days . Billy had a lovely voice ,i was a fan. If anyone knows were billy was laid to rest ,i would love to pay my respects to him . Condolences to his family 😢
As my mate Neil posted out, the audience are less than enthralled at the performance as they were probably terrified of meeting Jimmy Savile in the BBC corridors
@@gary1961 At the time, the kids might have been brought up to believe the husband should be 'Head of the House'. They might also have the idea that Mum should let Dad think he is.
I think he’s singing for real. But the backing track is so fast. From what I remember of the heavily unionised BBC of the time, he would have had to record a backing track in the studio or have them back him live. So there are probably a lot of bored overweight musicians playing at the side who picked up the sheet music 25 minutes before. Strange choice for a kids programme. But it was always on Fridays so kind of the unofficial stat to the weekend
It says that the song was not a hit but it reached no.17 in the English charts in 1974. That's a hit to me.

Another song in the soundtrack of my life
Quite possibly the most 70s looking bloke I've ever seen
🤣😂🤣🤣 Seriously! Gotta love it.
Lol you should have seen me ! I actually worked with Wayne in a Stationery Company warehouse at the time

Wonder if he got a Crackerjack pencil? (I always wanted one!)
Used to drink in the Ancient Foresters Pub in SE London, early 70's and he sang in there, and had this hit, was also on TOTP's
Barry Taylor
Millwall Pub
Know it well
Kinda weird having him perform this Northern Soul track in front of a bunch of pre teens who couldn't give a toss!
..... and all those kids thinking, Yeah, my mum is right under my dad's thumb, too.

Yeh - But them flares. Magic. 👍
Fecking love it. Its played lot in northern soul circuit
I thought he was much better with Spit the dog !!!
Lol! I thought the same thing..you beat me to it.
I like the song....
Sometimes when you see the singer though.......
2:47 he performed it on totp number 17 December 1974 does anyone have his performance on the show if so I would like to seen it
Met William in 1979 and had many nights after work where we might both be found singing :)
I need an outfit like that!
The best Billy 👌 ❤
Must have left Spit at home that day.
I watched this on Crackerjack in 1975 and though it was the naffest thing I'd ever seen. Now it's just funny. I love his suit!
Lol! I remember seeing him on totp. That xylophone in the background is what makes the song imo.
on crackerjack lol , brilliant song
Ooh yes Sir
That's Louise's uncle it's number four in the all time northern soul records of all times
Louise who?
Fab !
I saw you in the audience, Steve!!
a bit faster than I remember it
1970's Northern Soul Live Remake
Is this song sexist ? It was written more than 50 years ago and attitudes have now completely changed so who cares .
Agree 💯 % , it's a great song.
Keep the faith!
Wanna be under your thumb and at your feet
A little too fast; however, I like it. Elvis should have recorded it. His voice would have been well suited for it.
Sounds so much better than Jagger
Alternate version!

His pants swallowed his feet.
Long live polyester!
why is he singing in front of 5yrs old kids?
Didn't know Bob Carolgees could sing.
He doesn't have any feet !
🤣😂🤣😂🤣 Not sure if its this California green but this comment is awesome. Lol.
It's because they didn't show his feet
In those days, flared trousers had to cover your platform shoes.
Why would you choose this song if you were going to sing to kids? Could have picked a Stones song like She's a Rainbow
Blimey. This is SO fast ! Wtf?
english charts u mean british
Wow northern soul I don't think so.but it's funny xx
So, he's a bit of a hater and a tad narcissistic? All this ordering about and insisting stuff n that. :-)))))
