The end of Group B may have been one of the most sad and tragic ends of all automotive story, considered by some, One of, If not the most controversial Race classes ever created, but if it wasn't for it, we wouldn't have so many advances like semi-automatic transmissions, and the advance on safety technology, RS200, Quattro, 037, 5 Turbo, 205 T16, Metro 6R4, Manta, 240RS, RX-7, The Starion 4WD and Lancer 2000 Turbo, all together with the Celica TA64, The Astonishing 2105 VFTS and the Monstrous Samara EVA that could have been one of the greatest rivals of the 5 Maxi Turbo, and the infamous Citroën BX which most people don't even know participated, the not so reliable an suited M1, the incredible 959, 308 GTB and 222D from Porsche, Ferrari and Toyota, which sadly came late to the party, but later the 959 raced in the Dakar and the 308 GTB became the respectful 288 GTO and later give us the beloved F40, and the Monstrous and Obscure 222D made for Group S that could have also changed the game in Group B, but sadly never had a chance to show it's true potential, contributed to one of the most magnificent and breathtaking shows in the world, with all the crazy drivers and the even crazier crowds. (Edited to add the 959, 240 RS, RX-7 , 308, M1, Celica TA64, Starion 4WD, Lancer 2000 Turbo, 222D, 2015 VFTS, Samara EVA and Manta)
Formula 1 was kind of like that in the 80’s. Aryton Senna had 1,500 horsepower in Qualifying in 1988. Honda / Mclaren was king. 1.6 Litre V6 twin turbo engine and the downforce was not what it is today. FIA needs to restructure to make F1 enjoyable again
Can't forget Mazda and Nissan's Group B entries either, and while Porsche was too late to the show, the initially planned Group B 959 platform still went on to win the Dakar Rally after many trials and tribulations in prior entries with Metge and Ickx finally taking 1-2 in '86.

But that safety gives us the chance to go even faster.
Even tho these cars dont race they can at least rest in a museum on todays standards they are still powerfull 350bhp is really impressive
most modern rally cars are about as powerful as these machines were when they were the mainstay. And yet, they don't leave your jaw on the floor like these things. I guess Group B was as much the feeling as it was the machines themselves.
