i saw him many times playing in parisian's metro, i remember once, i was drawing, he stopped playing his guitar to ask me to show him, then he liked it so i gave him my drawing :) it's great to see him to be so famous now ! great story ! he's really got something very special ! he deserves what happens so much !! :)
i' so happ y for him
that's wonderful. thanks for sharing that
Don't lie.
why would i lie ? he was always on the line 2 of the parisian metro with his black guitar , playing covers and smiling a lot :)
i saw him there too! on line 2.. playing his heart out
He does not perform, he tells a story.
+Pedro Henrique funny, as I was watching it, I was thinking "I really have to listen to what he's singing, because it feels like it's going to be a story."
Cerucir I agree x
someone get this man some fucking tea and croissants
always coming back to this one right here.
me too
Still listening in 2024
2030😂😂for me
So much more than the other versions
Coming back after I watched Dune and thought, goodness I know that beautiful voice. And so I did.
it's a crime that Clementine doesn't receive the critical acclaim he deserves. Such a great talent shouldn't be ignored for others such as Taylor Swift and One Direction.
Well, if you compare it to those two. Then yeah, it is pretty unfair. If you compare it to many other original artist nowadays, his music is still damn enjoyable :)
You cant compare his music with Taylor Swift and One Direction. Two different types of music that comes from a different place. I heard he received critical acclaim.
DJZwart Broek what I mean by this is that I am disappointed with the mainstream being (often, not always) utterly garbage, technically and lyrically. People just seem to suck up shitty music just because they heard it on the radio once and the radio person says it's good.
boopdafoopdontmind There is an art in making that bubblegum music. But yeah I'm also disappointed that most people don't listen to 'heartfelt' music. The thing is: who am I to judge those people for listening to something I don't like? They're free to enjoy that kind of music. I can only hope that someday they hop on the good side and get moved by something that last more then one month.
He still slowly going to the place he deserves... We'll see him!
It's genuinely starting to annoy me that more people are not talking about Clementine.
+Adam Taylor I felt the same around 5 years ago with Gregory Porter. Eventually people will get there...
+Adam Taylor You mean the fucking mercury prize winner, of course people are talking about him.
92.30b ABU Very happy about that too - nice dedication as well. Before that, not quite as many people knew him.
+Adam Taylor You're telling me. I remember seeing him 3 years ago, maybe even 4 now, and he's finally getting more recognition!
Just released a song with Gorillaz. He's doing fine.
I want to quit my job and just listen to this music all day. Wow.
I have dreams about working for La Blog. They have the perfect aesthetic and excellent taste in music. Minimal cuts to set the environment for intro and outro and no cuts during the actual performance draws you in. Natural lighting, amazing locations, interesting subjects and even more interesting composition. Any still taken from all of their videos could be an amazing photograph, thats how dense their artistic vision is portrayed in these videos. For the last several years you have been my source of cathartic emotion in a world that breeds nihilism. Thank you for existing. Never stop making these, especially take away shows.
Waouw, that's one of the most touching comment w'eve ever read. Thank you for enjoying our videos like you do. It encourages us to keep on making ever more :)
krischan singh That was about as pretentious as Benjamins Clementines lyrics.
Why bother writing, why bother reading and responding, how sad are you?
What I meant was Ruh Roh, Why bother writing, why bother reading and responding, how sad are you? Not you La Blogotheque, by the way.
I hope you got the job.
What a incredible voice - There`s drama, action, violence and much pain in a sigle note
I'm sad that they added a heavy beat to the official cleaned up version. I like this one so much better.
nina simone is in this guy
uri damti Nina's essence has been transferred.....Exquisite beyond words.
Absulituly
Exactly my thoughts, when i listened him for the first time i said: Nino Simone!
the camera work in this is just as perfect as his playing
Patricia B thanks. means a lot
***** I'd have to agree. This is just my style. I'm sure the focus pulling with the anamorphic is hell too. Great shooting though. Perfect style.
dippydoo dangle High-speed macro photography??
Patricia Byrro agreed!
I come back at least every other month. The cinematography, sound quality and overall production blows me away every single time
Someone please get this man some tea and corrisants!
This is imo the definitive recording of this song. I much prefer it to the album version. It’s so raw here it just captures his spirit perfectly. What a voice!!
Benjamin seems to perform more effortlessly than I breathe.
This video is the first I've seen or heard of him, and I'm so grateful to La Blogothèque for bringing us this!
Thank you for the kind words ;)
Dave I hope you heard his song cornerstone, its beyond impressive
Dave I have one Charles Aznavour to thank for bringing me to Clementine...exquisite.
Dave what a high compliment but that's what i feel too
this is so beautiful that my soul hurts
makes john legend seem a lot less legendary
and a lot more ordinary
Definitely
The lyrics to the first song, Condolences:
I swear, you've seen me
You've seen me here before
And so don't tell it, don't tell it otherwise
This voice, this particular voice
Yes you've heard it before, before
And so don't you dare tell it, don't you dare tell it otherwise
No wonder, why the road seems so long
'Cause I had done it all before
And I won
You felt this feeling, tell me don't be ashamed
You felt it before, before
And so don't tell me
Don't tell me otherwise
I almost forgot, foolish me I almost forgot
Where I am from we see the rain before the rain even starts to rain
No wonder why you've been buggering me
This walk is a previous journey
And I won
Before I was born there was a storm
Before that storm there was fire
Burning everywhere
And everything became nothing again
And then out of nothing
Out of absolutely nothing I Benjamin, I was born
So that when I become someone one day
I will always remember that I came from nothing
No wonder, why you've been buggering me
This walk, it's a previous journey
And no wonder why the road seem so long
'Cause I had done it all before
And I won
Am sending my condolence
Am sending my condolence to fear
Am sending my condolence
Am sending my condolence to insecurities
You should know by now
You should know by now
That I just don't care
For what you might say
Might bring someone downhill
Am sending my condolence
To fear
Am sending my condolence
To insecurities
I just don't know if the Blogotheque and Clementine have realized the power of what they have done. For certain, this Take Away Show is a musical milestone.
I'm sending my condolences to insecurities..
i am simultaneously endeared and frustrated that you have only one song on a playlist. it is perfect. je te souhaite le meilleur
I love Benjamin's music either way but congratulations to the cinematographer of this video, for its simplicity and beauty.
Love the cinematic opening. Powerful music & setting. Great work
Thank you !
Yess!!!
This may have been one of the best acoustic sessions ever. Or just some crazy guy in a closed library.
Blessed be the musical rebels.
Blessed be the lyrics that resonate on every single atom of your being.
Blessed be the beautiful dance between images and sound, and the immeasurable force which they imprint on all our souls with.
This is perhaps one of my favorite Take Away Shows. Grand visually and vocally, and I've found a fantastic new artist.
this performance is absolutely unreal even after watching 100 times
ONAYA İhtiyaci yok..Onu dinleyen VAZGECEMEZ.,.❤
There's an emotional content that accompanies his singing storylines (because stories are what they are), that it is virtually impossible not to shed tears, as I am right now. His singing style is honestly raw and refreshingly poetic that it captivates your soul every time you hear him. His painful biography emanates distinctly through each piano chord and his own emotional energy. He will be bigger than his current fame suggests. Well earned, well deserved.
How awesome to put a piano in the St Geneviève's Library.
La Blogotheque does such a great job with its work and this video is a prime example. I love the intimacy and connection portrayed through excellent field recordings, arrangements and clever camera work. Sometimes I like these videos even more than the original studio recordings. Keep doing what you do!
Congratulations to Benjamin for winning the Mercury Prize!
Silencio, schiu, o Senhor Benjamin Clemantine esta a tocar...
Two songs, one video, and I purchased his album. To add to this whole thing, I'm still not sure of what I just watched.
Heard Benjamin Clementine for the first time on France Inter yesterday, and then subsequently came here. Ironically I've come across some of my favourite English musicians through French radio; I'm not sure why they are not getting the recognition they deserve in Britain. Such a diverse, unique and haunting voice. You can feel his pain; it's very authentic.
Wonderfully filmed, great sound. Also enjoyed the Jack White video.
This is such an emotionally articulate performance. This dude is so inspiring for me
We and all my friends here in hollywood are watching your production with all those amazing performers :)
I’ve only known about him become of this video when it came out and I was 16 at the time, but after all these year I recognized him and got so excited when I saw him in dune! So happy for him❤️
This guy has the smallest ears I've ever seen. Once you realise that it's difficult to focus on anything else.
Bats on a stick why did you have to tell me!
Bats on a stick I was looking for that comment... truly amazing
Bats on a stick Listen to his song "Gone", the first couplet, he also knows it... ;)
He says it in his music lol. His words "small boy with a big head and very small ears" Who cares he is a an amazing musician with a beautiful soul.
Bats on a stick Yep kinda like how "let me keep the pie" ruined "ne me quitte pas"
i found this Artist while watching Burberry London fashion week.He played this piece "Condolence", what buteautiful music.
Same Here! ashamed of the fact that I learn about such a voice, such an artist through a fashion show
Don't be, whatever path brings you to truth is one that should be embraced.
No matter how unconventional.
Truly unique. Unlike anything thats ever existed. What a thing to behold. A combination of SO many people, ideas, characters & yet completely and fully solely only himself. Im so grateful I'm even alive at the same time as this specimen. Just unforgettable in every way.
You should listen to French artist Leo Ferre, his music had an overwhelming influence on Benjamin's early output.
God I love all these tracks on the A Take Away Show series!! It's as if I am there, in the room!!
LOOOOVE him but that tea and croissant song lol I tried but not my jam lol
Jeanne Bastille have you tried... butter
Who’s back here again after watching Dune? Lolll
Before after even during watching Dune
I love the build up of the song. I am honestly so dumbfounded by the pure beauty and strength of his voice and playing.
The more we advance in time, the more this becomes timeles
I can't imagine what it must feel like to be in that room. I don't think I could've breathed.
this video is absolutely beautiful but i just have to ask - what lens was this shot with?
its obviously anamorphic, but scince it looks quite handheld but still has a lovely background seperation through a wide aperture so i think it has to be a farely wide prime somewhere between 35 and 50mm
but the lens just has so much character i find it hard to believe that this is one of the 'regular' zeiss or cooke anamorphic primes
so it could also be a anamorphic lens attached to a regular prime which opens more questions than it answers for example which anamorphic adapter allows focal lengths beneath 50mm? and how did you manage to pull focus in such a dual focus construction?
well however congratulations on this beautiful piece of cinematography i hope you can answer my question :)
+Paul Paroxid hey paul thank you for watching! we used kowa lenses. I dont remember which mm was used on condolence, probably a 40 (the widest). on Adios I switched to 75 for the first part. you are right about the kowas in that they are very characteristic, I know a lot of dops dislike them for that reason but I've always loved "imperfect" images, deformation etc. so i'm quite fond of them. they're also very light which is perfect for handheld / shoulder rigs. xx
I really do find myself quietly disappearing whenever I press play on this set of recordings.
This man is my kind of storyteller.
Melody, tension & a confident yet quiet lyricism....
To my mind near perfect.
Waahhhhh....merci de me faire découvrir de tel artiste....🙏
3:43 cry everytime
Brace yourselves, Gorillaz fans are coming!
why?
Benjamin sang Gorillaz's new release "Hallelujah Money" - which means he'll become known by a larger population and his videos will be flooded with "I'm 13 but I love this kind of music, my generation sucks..." comments.
maketelma I'm pissed I didn't see him sooner. Could of have him booked for s big jazz festival in the US but now he's going to be too expensive
but this is from this generation. I don't really see those comments coming, they are usually about things like pavement or led zeppelin
Boo!
here i am~
and actually i'm more in love with this man than 2d
Melbourne is calling calling calling you. Can't have enough praise for your music, a gift to mankind.
please do benjamine clemantine x spelling collaboration.
I am still bewildered how tiny his ears are.
and I am obviously still high a bit
i would DIE
Who cares about the world destroying itself. Be yourself, be beautiful.
beautiful song
and i know he play little bit not comfort
because his chair is too high
Honestly have never heard anything like this, amazing.
@4:38 gives me chills
Merci !!!!.... encoRe....
Undiscovered gold here. The music is A+. The vocal raw and superb. A mix of blues and opera and classical and drum and bass. On the verge. Thank you for the earhole enjoyment. My cortex likes this.
Pure bliss and my favorite song ever HEAVEN
immortals really aint fucking around huh
oh my goodness, we have a new genius in our midst.
this dude have such a great history from such a humble roots, lest not try to romanticize poverty and people living on the street, the fear and insecurity of living such a rough life is represented here and people under those circunstances deserve our love care and a second chance to have a better life.
HOLY SHIT his voice struck me like baseball bat! awesome!
His tiny desk performance has me shook..I am in love with his voice..
Benjamin is definitely a unique voice and a very talented artist... Love this video.
charming voice and sensational performance
Belin eğri kalcak Benjamin bes senedir böyle oturuyosun piyano basına
oh my dear, this is the most breathtaking acoustic performance i've ever seen
So much beautiful drama. Thank you
Clementine is the best artist that I have come across, he's more like a vocalist like Lorde but the ability of playing is own tune throws me totally out. He's the best I have ever heard. Love him
I am so in love with everything about this creation. Bless your gift, Angel Benjamin.
Eye walked six or so miles to retrieve my car that was impounded, because of Bogan, in the middle of the night. No one would h😮me even though I was not at fault, Always punished, punished under their terms..grace never forgot that.,Allright. Okay. 2,I'm always ♥gonna be ok cool.
He has tiny ears.
Have some cheekbones, dude!
That's one hell of a voice and a captivating performer. Beautiful stuff.

What a man god has made... and for us..
reminds me of regina spektor
ive never felt emotion flow through my body like this, because of someones voice before
mesmerizing
Que voz e que lugar ❤
Sorry, no fan of this, but then everyone is different, and samemoney, maybe tomorrow I might feel different about it. Just he sounds whini now?
Whats with the bare street? i swear, i swear, you seen me before.... wow something about his music makes me sad but its uplifting as well i cant quite explain it, but i love it ....
Beautiful, every time I hear Benjamin I am so deeply moved. I love the way he pushes the boundaries with music, confident in his medium to convey his message beyond the words and sounds, what a talented guy. I saw him in Manchester in the summer and I wept all the way through ! That's my way of saying at last something which touches my soul, intellect, humour and understanding. He is playing at the Lowry on 1st December in Manchester so if you want to see him ? ......
I was at that concert, I even met him afterwards. He is one of the most amazing people out there.
Powerful. Very moving.
Thank you Bengamin.. although I want to call you Clementine. You have haunted me in a good way. I´ll come come back soon
La blogotheque, you are legendary and very underrated.
