Employers like their employees to be exempt so they can exploit them more. This is especially true in technical roles.
I'm salary exempt and have to travel more than 50% of my time for the job. Nobody is holding a gun to my head forcing me to work more than 40 hours a week, but it is simply not possible to complete all my work without doing so, this is especially true when Monday and Friday are travel days. My employer started tracking utilization time, what's funny is they do not consider admin time to be utilization time for field service engineers. Coincidentally they have been dumping more and more administrative duties on us when we are already traveling all over the place and working 50-60 hours a week.

I was offered a job just like this by Honeywell. The job posting was non exempt. The benefits package offered was for non exempt employees. When it came time to sign a NYS Pay Rate Form they gave me a exempt form to sign. I said Im not signing that. And the form is supposed to be filled out with my pay-rate and OT rate and both were left blank. I asked the onboarding specialist to confirm im non exempt and she says im exempt because I would be salaried. I replied back stating thanks for opportunity but I will be declining your offer.

Thanks for the information I was change to a None- Exempt. Not too happy seeing my manager live out of work any time he feels like it and I have to be stock working and being feel be track on my phone is an uneasy feeling. but know that I had seen this video it helps me to understand. To be fair I do think that for Exempts staff need to pun in and out of work. Also, not too creasy if I do over time because there is an emergency, I have to wait for someone to approve my overtime in emergence situation. and decide not to pay me for overtime hours because it was not approved by a third party. so, I can lose the time I can spend with my family and not get pay for it. what can I do?

I'm exempt employee, management. My employer is docking me and using my PTO to complete the 8th hour work day when I worked 4 hrs.
Can employer dock my PTO even though I'm exempt and worked half a day? California law says otherwise, not sure if I'm interpreting the law correctly.
    Please help.

That is a great question. It looks like you might be exempt from overtime due to the Motor Carrier Act. This article goes into more detail about it.

If you are based out of Texas there could also be some state-specific regulations around this as well.
I hope this helps, and thanks for your hard work keeping this country running.
