April 20 1980 10:00 am I was saved in Newport Beach CA Was introduced to Jesus by Lonnie Frisbee. It was a Sunday morning. After conversion Lonnie took me to Calvary Chapel to hear Chuck Smith preach. My first time in church. I went from an atheist to a Child of God. A Glorious Day!!

I came to Christ because of the ministry of Calvary Chapel in 1968. I went to a concert when they were still meeting in the "little country church". Love Song was playing and I was sitting outside looking in because there were so many there. In 1971 Pastor Chuck took time out of his busy schedule and came to one of my high school classes to give a talk and answer questions. He was so warm and loving towards us all. I was one of only two Christians in my class where Christianity was attacked often by our teacher. Pastor Chuck's encouragement helped me keep my faith in God.

@@annchovey2089 Yes...even though SCOTUS in 1962 ruled that prayer had to be removed from public schools, many schools in the South and Southwest ignored that ruling and kept prayer at least until the mid to late 1970's in the classroom. Starting in the 1980's, new teachers and principal's changed the practice completely into what we have today.

I was one of those teens listening to Pastor Chuck preach under the tent. He spoke so slowly and deliberately that I could take notes verbatim. Every word delivered with careful intention to deliver only Biblical truths. At the end of each sermon he would caution us with, “Don’t believe these things because you have heard it from me. Go home and read the Bible for yourself to find if these things are true.” I thank God for Pastor Chuck and all Calvary Chapel pastors who have kept their ministry focused on preaching the Word of God above all else.

I’ll never forget I was driving in Manoa and as I was driving I was admiring this big tree and the branches and how the sunlight was shining through, absolutely beautiful. The radio announced Pastor Chuck’s passing. I pulled over right in from of this beautiful tree that was breath taking. My dad was a Vietnam vet and started going to Calvary Chapel so whenever I hear about Calvary Chapel and or Hear Pastor Chuck it always reminds me of my dad ❤ in some Godly way when I heard this news and it was like God and my dad were talking to me… it’s no coincidence. I also came to Christ in the 70’s. Sitting in the chapel hearing him Teach was so comforting. He was so believable. He said “we know that God will be so fair”. I was struggling with the fact that my late Dad had not been a believer and what would
Happen to him. I let go of all my worries about it
And trusted God with my life.

In the early '80s going to college at UC Santa Cruz, I found Chuck Smith on the radio. Already saved in 1976, it was a blessing and I found Calvary Chapel Santa Cruz. After marrying my husband, we attended Calvary Chapel of San Jose.
In 1984, we moved to the area we live in now, but there was no CC in our area. The closest would have been almost a 2 hr drive one way. My husband was not up for that, so we actually did not attend a church for a long time, not finding one of good doctrine. Recently found out after attending another church altogether for almost 4 yrs.....found out there IS now a CC in our area. Calvary Chapel Eastside Palmdale and we have been attending for just a bit over 1 yr now......we are 'home'. Great to hear this interview.....you spoke of a movie about 20 yrs ago Pastor Laurie and our Church will be attending a new movie about you both....the 'Jesus Revolution' in theatres in about 2 weeks. Am SO looking forward to it!!

I attended an evening weekday study and had the pleasure of hearing Chuck first hand in the 1969-1970 winter season. I’d never heard anyone speak with such genuine love for the Lord and love for all of us there…unconditional love. But the one thing that has stayed with me all these years was a comment he made that said, in effect: Some of you here are sitting on the only pair of pants you own. … but there is no reason you can’t wash those pants and present yourself clean on the outside as Christ has cleansed you on the inside. That admittedly is not an exact quote, but it just tickled me to pieces, and still does. Wonderful man and teacher. May he Rest In Peace in the presence of our Lord. ❤❤❤❤

Thank you Greg Laurie for this moving interview with Chuck Smith. What an amazing man of God he was. A friend and I went to see Jesus Revolution this afternoon. We really enjoyed it, but my tears fell through most of it. I grew up in the Midwest during the '60's graduating high school in 1966. I accepted Jesus in 1963 and didn't have any exposure to the drug scene or any real "hippies" but I heard about the Jesus movement among the "hippies" in California. I hope that hundreds of people see "Jesus Revolution" and that Hollywood makes more Christian movies of this caliber. Kelsey Grammer gave an Oscar worthy performance. Many thanks to the producers, director, cast and all that worked on the filming. God bless them all and draw them to Himself.

I found this video, it just came up on my side panel with other videos. Since I been seeing advertisements for the movie "Jesus Revolution" I was interested. I never heard of Pastor Chuck Smith or Pastor Greg Laurie before, until now. I was around in those days on the East Coast, but I was very young in 1970. But I always loved Jesus and still love Jesus to this day, and I pray everyday. Pastor Chuck sounds like such a wonderful nice man, an Angel on earth...It's true what Pastor Laurie said, I never known a man like this, so positive on everything life throws at him...Amazing! Pastor Chuck, truly was working for Jesus. I feel the Holy Spirit breathed breath in him to speak the words of Jesus. He surly helped a lot of young people back in those days that may have felt lost. God put this man here on earth, with good intentions to do God's work. I think this movie, coming out now, is a 'Sign' from God. God knows this country is in big trouble, so many young people these days now have lost their way, their minds. They are worshiping Satan, and laughing in God's face. We see what is happening to our country, it no longer believes in God or Country. I feel the whole world is going in the wrong direction, so much Evil, it feels like Satan is winning over the people. We need Jesus, I hope this film open's young peoples minds and hearts. I hope they can follow the good word of Jesus, like it did over 50 years ago. I'm glad I found out who this wonderful Pastor is from this video. Even tho he is no longer here on this earth, but in Heaven. His message will live on, if good people speak about him and pass his good works onto the new generations to come. I pray Jesus will touch their souls and their life will be so much better. In Jesus name, Amen🙏

I think his advice given on the time we have on earth (at timestamp 16:12) is both poignant and applicable to all today. We only have one life, so God asks us to use it well. But it was Chuck's time perspective that he had on helping people: Do you want to help people only temporally and then die, or help them come to Christ and live eternally? For any teenager to both comprehend and then follow that advice shows that Pastor Chuck Smith had wisdom beyond his years. God bless him for his dedicated life & mission.

The day Chuck Smith passed away, my daughter was 3 years old. We walked out of our home to pick up her brother from school, she was in my arms and very surprisingly she yelled pointing at the sky: “the heavens are open!!!!” I looked at the sky, it was cloudy all around except for the place she was pointing where a strong beam of sun light was coming through lightning up a path in the clouds that les deeper in the sky. I was amazed because I don’t recall having said that to her.
And I remembered Chuck Smith had left to be with the Lord Jesus that day.

I love Pastor Chuck! On my first day attending CCBC at Murrietta, CA, I was using the restroom there. I saw an older gentleman on his knees fixing the urinal. Didn't think about much until I sat on my Acts class; he was the interim speaker, filling in for some other pastor. In total honesty, I didn't know anything about Calvary Chapel movement nor Chuck, but I have come to appreciate it so much, as I am rooted in that "old school" principle continue on that legacy.
On my graduation, my parents were looking for place to eat but didn't know where to go; it was before internet! She saw Pastor Chuck stroll by, without hesitation, she asked him where we should go (she didn't know who he was). I was a little embarassed, but Pastor Chuck rattled off about 10 restaurants we could go in that slow, low tone!
He was simply an awesome man!
