- I got to go help @rickseeman5679 and friends start up a mostly original 1969 Plymouth Road Runner. This was filmed over several days and I wasn’t able to be there for the big start up! Rick and crew was able to get more footage so we could all see how it went!

It’s amazing what old geezers do for entertainment. Well, come to think of it, we did it when we were young too. The alternator was charging and made zero noise. The power steering made no noise. The engine idled down and purred like a kitten with no smoke. No water leaks. The fuel pump worked. Zero tappet noise. How is this possible after sitting 28 years? It really makes no sense. 3 cars down and 2 to go.
Just good Chrysler engineering.
You geezers are alright😂! Joe’s got projects too
I remember those days when I was a teenager now I'm older and don't have the time to work on my 69 Roadrunner
@@bradfischer1059 that’s what the owner of this car said. But after he retired the time came and the stars all lined up and we are going to get all five of them running. Your day will come.
Thanks! Nice roadrunner! My dad bought a 68 383 rr in fall of 68 when the 69s were coming out. Paid like $2700 for it. It was that torquoise color. My Mom learned to drive, and took her driving test in it. It was the only car until I was about 12. The good old days!!!
Very nice!
It makes those days of being a kid so much More Special.
68' muh Fav Mopar year...... And at that Price?!?!..... Hell, I would have tried buying TWO 68's that Fall!
That's great to find one in original condition.
Very close! Thanks brother

@@JustMoparJoe Amen! 🙏
What a treat to find Rick on your channel, Joe. I've been a subscriber of his for a short while now
(his hemi builds are amazing stuff on there) and he's graced us with his presence over on the FBBO
forum as well. I have much catching up to do with both your channels, I reckon. 🙂
- Ed on the Ridge
Thank you! Check out my 512 engine build and my 508 engine build. Both were in his shop
Someone scored a nice bones RR. Have fun getting her moving. All new fluids and greasing the suspension will get her out of her slumber.
Fingers crossed! Thanks Mike!
Is it your's? Beautiful Runner! Fantastic Survivor 😊 A nice quiet RR with a 383 727 8 3/4 323😊
Not mine, buddy! I’d love to cruise it everywhere
B HALL also Trickey Rickey!!!!
I bet it still has that Mopar interior smell??
Absolutely!
What a find!
Absolutely
In high school in the 1970's my friend and I had 383 Roadrunners. He had 1968 and I had a 1969. They were 4 speed cars, but we made some changes to them. We removed the front and rear seats and removed the floor coverings. We installed lightweight Pinto front seats (with wooden risers) and painted the floors black. He had a 3.55 Sure Grip rear and I had a 3.91 Sure Grip rear. We removed the front sway bars and used AC Delco side terminal batteries, which were the lightest weight ones available at the time. He had a Hurst Vertical Gate shifter and I had a Mr. Gasket V-Gate shifter. He rebuilt his engine with 0.040" Mopar pistons, Six Pack valve springs, a Hemi Grind cam, Torker intake 780 Holley, Hedman headers, a Holley high volume street fuel pump, a Mallory dual point distributor and Hush Thrush mufflers. I rebuilt my engine with 0.030" TRW pistons, Six Pack valve springs, a Racer Brown SSH-25 cam, DP-4B intake, 780 Holley, Appliance headers, a Carter high volume street fuel pump, a recurved 440 dual point distributor with a Mopar 383 adapter and Hush Thrush mufflers. We both had aluminum slot wheels with F70-14 tires in front and L60-14 tires in the rear. I later changed mine to automatic transmission, with a 3800 stall Turbo Action torque converter, a Winters shift kit, a drain plug added to the transmission pan and a small transmission cooler mounted to the radiator support and shifted with a Winters gate shifter. The 1969 4 speed 383 Roadrunners got special rear leaf springs that the 1968 Roadrunners didn't have. There were so many hot rods at the high school, that the government put guard rails around the yards of corner houses near the school, because so many cars were ending up in front yards. We did get some 440's, but didn't them assembled until near the end of our senior year and saved them for the Summer racing. During high school we both worked at a big tire store after school, until closing time. Another friend's father was the regional manager for the tire store chain. Back in leaded gas days, Hush thrush mufflers had a secret, they were Turbo Mufflers, except they have a fine, thin mesh screen in them. Everything in them was galvanized, except the mesh screen. When new, they would pass noise inspection and were certified, but after a few miles of leaded gas and some full throttle runs , the thin mesh screens would rust and blow away completely, leaving some galvanized, free flowing Turbo mufflers.
Sounds like a perfected combination 🎉
Cool Bird! Got a friend with a 69 that same color. Only 2 I've ever seen. Most are green, red or blue.
Very cool!
Clean, solid R.R. I would like a coupe as nice as this one..
You and me both!
Beautiful original Roadrunner and very good engine running after 28 years not starting
It sure is! It was literally locked up when we started!
Kids nowadays will never know the excitement of bringing a old car back running all they know is fuel infection and scanners or laptops
It’s true, unless I’m there daddy, in which they get their own A body’s 😂
This one brings back some great memories! A friend of mine had a 68 road runner with a 383 4speed and I had a 71 fury 360 auto. We raced several times and we would be just about dead even.......until he got traction. Lol!
That is an awesome Road Runner! I'm jealous!
Thanks Ray!
I had a 69 Roadrunner Y4 mine had a black vinal top, it was a 383 4 speed, I traded it to get back a 68 charger I had got rid of, I'd sure like to have either one of them back nowadays!👍
Absolutely! Thanks Mitch!
Awesome, just purchased 68 Road Runner all original , but with a 426 Max Wedge, 4 speed .Smokes, but still lays rubber in all 3 gears..Time to refresh. .Subbed and shared .My kind of channel .Cheers from Canada. .Also have 70 TA auto.....
Cheers 🍻
It’s ok with me if you stop over. You can bring Rick too lol.
Haha! On the way. Let me know when dinner is ready!
Very nice and well optioned. the 6 way seat adjust was a $33.30 option avail. for the left front bucket only. Looking forward to what's next!
Thank you! The owner has a few more that needs love!
Swweeetttt❤, color me green, luv it
Thanks Dizzy
That’s a really clean car! Very nice 👏👏👏😊
Thanks Ryan!
Wow super cool!
Thank you! Cheers!
Salam Sehat bosky semangat selalu kawan 😁🙏
meep meep
👀
I don't think there is a better sound than a Chrysler big block starting.
Yes sir!
Beautiful Beautiful car Joe History in the making / although I’d prefer with out all that air con rubbish then she be a road runner with less weight 👍🏻🇦🇺.
For sure. But in Arkansas and Australia, it’s nice to be cool!
Yep I agree about cool 😎 it’s just that it’s a road runner I’m in Tasmania although originally from NSW Hunter Valley 👍🏻my pet hat is access to the water pump extra belts😥more pulleys pipes for the air con making everything a pain in the engine bay 😩. ETC ETC that helps run that air con 😥then the big one ☝️ is all that weight over that front end for handling 😮= also loss of power 😩and fuel ⛽️ mileage yep I know it was cheap back in the day but your also dealing with so much extra under the dash 😩yep it’s original to that car and it’s a great car but I’m not a fan of air con that why MA MOPAR had window winders 👍🏻. Anyway Joe you do a great job keep it up 👍🏻🇦🇺.
Beautiful car! My dad had a 69 GTX.
Very cool!
👍👍👍👍
Thanks Jaybo
Another real deal big block 'runner back to making music!
Yea buddy!
OOPH! That kicked me in the chops. I miss my 69 so bad now. A couple points/questions... you did mention you guys swapped out the old oil before first fire? You doing a bit of body work on this one, cuz I'd love to see more of this old bird :) Also, I'm not sure if you guys noticed or not but there is something a little special about that hood. Its a few short easy steps from the air grabber! Whoever had this thing stashed all these years is an amazingly lucky person.
Now something I always love to see is guys doing the right process on an old startup like this. Pulling the plugs, squirting some lubricant in them holes before breaking the rings loose with a wreckin bar and so on. Man I love it when ppl do stuff the right way! There is one and only one thing I wish people would start taking the extra time with and nobody ever frickin does... the right precautions on the interior. That stuff is factory old! All it takes is one big butt in a rush and its cracked n screwed. 2 minutes of prevention time is all it takes. Wipe the front seats off with a wet rag and then give them a little love with a clean shop rag damp with baby oil, then drop a clean towel on the seat before sitting on it!!!
Thanks brother. I love the mothers protectant products for interior. It has a milky finish, but when wiped stays shiny and isn’t greasy like armour all
Now to see if it’ll drive
Cant wait!
If only that RR could talk
Absolutely! What a tale it would tell
Would love to have it.
Absolutely!
Nice
Just good Chrysler engineering
Runs like a top, Again!
My 68 Superbee was that same color. 383 4 speed.
Awesome! 🚀
That dang honey, always having you do things…
😘
Sweet! What is the plan for this yard bird?
I think he’s slowly getting it back to being a weekly cruiser. The hard part is done, and with the new carb it should be a good one to drive around. Problems will present themselves, like old seals and all that. But it won’t take much to be a cool old car again and head turner.
6 way power seats? 😮 Most were in a Imperial. Maybe the owner worked for Chrysler's . But then again one can oreder anything they
wanted
Needs some Go go juice 😂
It’s a great car, just missing a pedal lol
How unusual is that when a relief valve sticks and blows an oil filter? I have never heard of that before
I think it’s a possibility when one sits up for a long time
Your right on the money people are just greedy I got a friend that got me a 68 440 that I’d say was out of a super bee and I payed 500 for it standard bore I’ve yet to take it apart I have another guy that has a motor home 440 he wants 500 for it I may buy it just in case but people want a fortune and mark worman and monkey garage I don’t think I’d sell them nothing I think they greedy people but most Mopar guys will help each other here in Canada thing s are a lot more money but if you look for cheap you will find good video as usual have a good day mo Joe
Thanks brother. Always looking for the deals
Curious, that car is either a very early production or the motor has been replaced. 69 high performance big blocks were Hemi Orange.
That’s interesting. I thought it said 2-69 or something somewhere. I’ll have to ask
Maybe it was pulled and painted over the years.
@@chrismc.4437 I learned something new tonight. “A 69 wouldn’t be Orange if it had A/C, but a 70 with A/C was orange.”
@@JustMoparJoeAh ah! Thanks for the info
Old plates; back before they took all the opportunities out of the state.
Haha! I remember those days. But also they required inspections back then
@@JustMoparJoe I’ve thought about those inspections, but at least one day a year all the lights work on that vehicle.
@@larryfogle3697 it’s true, but also Arkansas State Police can have a reason to pull over if people aren’t on top of their stuff. Look them up on UA-cam 😂
Son its 28 yrs or 30 ? 😮😂
What would someone pay for something like this today?
Shoot me an email, justmoparjoe@gmail.com.
I do this every day!
It's a wonder if road Runner exists now. Much abuse they took in their day.
Absolutely! You can see how the 70 model I’m working on was raced and cut up
I'm betting my last dollar that you ain't keeping this. This is a flip or I'm a striped ass baboon. Nobody keeps anything like this in flipper world. I wonder what country it's gonna get shipped to?
You better double it and give it to the next guy. This car is owned by a couple already that wanted it running and out of storage. They don’t have any plans of selling it.
The owner has never gotten rid of anything in his life. Including comic books when he was 9 years old. Everything.
@@JustMoparJoe In that case, I stand corrected and offer my sincere apologies.
I'm getting kinda cynical and I've almost stopped watching all of this stuff because most of these stories are all about the flip.
They're becoming strictly business.
I think back on several of the old cars that I've discovered and fixed up for the specific purpose of keeping and enjoying. Flipping has never entered my mind, and the joy and excitement of doing the job, and then having something really cool to show for all my work has always been the thing with me. I get nearly as much enjoyment seeing somebody else realize their dream as I when I do it myself.
My other passion is guitars and amplifiers, but they've become flipper candy too. People who have never played one note and don't care to, are hogging up the great instruments and locking them away, and every time something like that gets flipped. The price goes higher and higher until no musician can ever touch them again. Bidding wars and hoarding tend to inflate prices beyond all reality.
My game now is to try and duplicate the great ones so people today can have the sound and feel of the old ones.
If I were to find a 69 Satellite or Belvedere, I'd probably want to hunt down the parts to build if to Road Runner specs, minus the decals and emblems.
If the billionaires have grabbed all the real ones, we're left with two choices, build a repro, or just forget the whole thing.
Having said all that, I repeat my apologies and wish you guys well on this one.
I just get frustrated with the flipper culture because it's so "bottom line" and soulless.
30 yrs in that carport ? And not rat infested ?
I believe it’s been moved and moved and moved. Thanks for the support!
Mopar / Chrysler had horrid build quality
I’m certain that it was dependent on the factory, the day, the line, and the guy. But there were hundreds of thousands of hard working people who gave their best to make these better than Chevy or Ford.
Nice !❤
Thanks brother. Glad to share it
