My grandfather had one much like that, one day we were going through his old tool chest, the 1st thing of many, he threw in the trash was that light. Upon watching this video I sadly think of what might’ve been. Once again, beautifully done.
Amazing work. Great results. Creative use of the lathe. Great gasket replacement. Beautiful polishing. A masterpiece refurbished with respect and care! Thanks!
This is indeed how torches were made back in the day. Mine was very similar. They were actually not very good, but you revived this one to its former glory. Thank you for the video.
I remember one of these on my mum’s nightstand when I was a kid in the UK in the 1980s. Probably something she picked up in a junk shop so I’m guessing 1970s. You’re right, it never was very good! I was probably 8 before my hands were strong enough to move the switch, it was heavy as hell with those huge batteries, and the beam was pathetic 😂
0:05 - Rusty flashlight ...,0:11 Made of copper. Copper doesn't rust...the flashlight in the video is made from brass and brass don't rust either....just sayin'..... Still a great job on the restoration.👍👍
It would really be interesting to see all these restorations get 'modernized/improved'. Like in this case installing some high efficiency led lights, extra gaskets, maybe rechargeable li-ion batteries with charging protection circuit etc. Something like Sleeper cars but in this case would be sleeper restorations...
Thank you very much for your video. You have restoration tools. I am now 63 years old and ı used to use many years ago same torch. I would like to say that there is a large diameter spring inside of bottom part that pushes the the movable part to the battery negative pole. In your original torch this part I mean spring was missing and there was a clock part in this spring hole. Thanks and best wishes.
Very thorough accomplishment Takes some patience ! ;) Only issue i noticed was with how the restoration of the top ring cap was addressed it's not fully original now with no more rib design round the top i understand that was a difficult task to get just right However overall incredible achievement 👏 👌 I'm a bit of a collector of old flashlights 🔦 with 2,500 +

Very nice restoration. Thank you! My Dad had the silver colored ones during the 50's and 60's as a policeman.
And my father as a former pilot back to 70s and 80s in Olympic Airways 🇬🇷
Loved the video. Never would have thought a simple device was so complex. Talk about watching a craftsman in action. Absolutely gorgeous!
That was the flashlight of my childhood ❤️ In comunism time, in my country, this type of flashlight was the best one. Nice memories...❤️
Those are supposed to be brass but look like gold (classic gold and light pink gold). Outstanding restoration.
Holy cow! The number of parts for a flashlight! Sure looked nice after you finished. And making a tool to re-roll the bead... 😲
I love the look of these older flashlights, and the tech history is even cooler. Thanks for the video and well done!

Love the vintage look of the flashlight 🔦.

Nice job, I have several very old torches, I find they are best with non focusing bulbs if you can find them.
Brilliantly brought back to life otherwise would have been lost forever

Love your work but question why you use wire cutters in some places where small pliers or needle noses would work better.

What protective finish over the brass did you use to keep it from turning dark again?

I had the same thing happen to me when I was changing the light bulb on my grandfather's antique automotive test light.
