    I visited this ship in Spring 1.966 in Valencia, Spain. It was astonishing so big carrier and educated people in it. I will always remember this visit.

    I was station aboard the USS AMERICA CV-66 from 1977 till 1980, went on 2 Med crises and 1 South American cruise, even visited Rio, wow, it was a wonderful ship, why would they scrap this beautiful ship that was named after our wonderful country is beyond me. It was heart breaking knowing it went down to serve fish now rather than us Americans, such a damn shame! AMERICA now serving fish. Should have been commissioned as a museum, The Forecastle was painted up so patriotically, i used to go look out the holes for the anchor chains to watch the porpoises swim in front of the ship as it sailed thru the Ocean waves.

    Although I was very bitter about her demise , I now find myself at peace knowing she is still on this earth unlike any other conventional carrier forestall thru Connie that met their fate in Brownsville. Love her as much today upright and and intact except for a few wounds. God bless America my home sweet home v1 div 80-84❤

    I did two cruises with CVW-1 on America. I was absolutely broken hearted to learn that the ship bearing our country's name was used as a missile target.

    • @novgaladh
      @novgaladh 5 років тому

      they somehow needed to test what it takes to sink a carrier... the navy took 4 weeks to sink her, missiles didnt do it, they had to rigged explosives below and above just to sink her. China thinks they can easily target and sink a moving carrier with their so called shipkiller missiles.... hlet them try and fail...oh and get decimated at the same time.

    Our A-6 squadron ( VA-35) was attached to the America for the Med Cruise in 1971-72. You can check out my slide shows by searching UA-cam for "War Story" or "Looking Back". I had a nice slideshow of my 4 years in the Navy that was almost 50 minutes long. Due to UA-cam limitations at the time of the posting, I had to break it down into 5 smaller videos and remove the music. I then broke them down into smaller clips of specific interest because without music, the longer slideshows lost a lot and were pretty boring (especially the intros to each section).

    OK. Thanks for the music bed only. I think USS America deserves better respect than what it got. Although I was only a part of the ships life for a year 1986-1987 in Portsmouth VA, This ship America served the whole free world in so many ways. IT died a violent death at the hands of the ones who commissioned her, and used her for protection. That was a horrible decision. Now nobody can see the ship that made history in saving americans lives, even though it was named after the country that it served. IT served us, but at the end, it was killed by the same people it served. It's very sad. This was my home for a year. I had respect for the vessel. And the ones that operated it. When I heard it was sunk by our own government in the violent way it happened, I kind of lost respect for the United States Government. Michael W Reeder, USS America 1986. Contact Captain James A. Lair.
