- July 9, 2024 12pm ET - Over 1 million Texas residents remain without power as a dangerous heat wave grips the state. The Weather Channel's National Correspondent Justin Michaels is in Houston with CenterPoint Energy's Michelle Hundley for an update on restoration efforts.
Cat. 1. Hurricane making CenterPoint upside down, imagine cat. 3 or 4, are we gonna have no power for A YEAR !
Cant wait to go back to our ancestral past where we had to survive with no power, thank you center point I really wanted to feel like an ancient Egyptian

They restored power to my neighborhood. But there is still a tree that is dangling on a power line.

File centerpoint complaint with the public utility commission of texas
They going bankrupt soon its actually 2m people
then send a strongly worded email in caps to the committee.
My power hasn't been restored yet , the front apartment building I stay in has light, and our back section apartment building doesn't. Why ? If Centerpoint was there fixing the problem, why didn't they fix it all way???? No light since Monday morning. This is outrageous
Jesus is coming ❤
Same situation on my complex half has power other half pont
Bet her house has power
Bingo
Let’s find her and make her pay!
It doesn, t work that way. My power came back on the day of the hurricane, and my brother-in law---went to work restoring power that day, did not have power in his own home for several days later. They are subject to being fired for prioritizing those they know or themselves.
@@carlsanders7824this chick lives in a mansion
Explain to me how a movie theater has power. A warehouse that is not even open right now has power? But the people where I live, especially some are senior citizens have no power, make it make sense
Well, if you vote business over people then that's what you get. Vote better.
Maybe because they never lost power? Lol
Not to mention for the Astros to play
We all need to sue centerpoint
Good idea 👍 but wont happen because people are very lazy.
for incompetence? sue the DEI committee for putting someones close and personal acquaintance in position of decision makers.
Centerpoint owes me a generator.
They said a million would be restored yesterday. The trucks only STARTED pulling out of staging areas at 9 this morning.
This is 1000% BS.
I got power already

💯 agree
@BM-yk1dc the ones you speak of fall under the category of evil & wrong, yes? we'll all be judged, including them. everybody has the ability to repent and be forgiven, whether we like that idea or not. turn or burn, freedom of choice
Went to go see a friend who lives near the water and he was telling me how families were sleeping outside. This is crazy.
The TX utilities need to get on the ball. Winter and Summer seems to be the same NO POWER for their Heat and Cooling !!!
They knew for over a week this storm was hitting. Why in the heck were they not better prepared???
That woman is so editing her LinkedIn profile after this....
"Who should we have to face the angry horde - the President, the CEO, the shareholders?"
"No, that girl Michelle in Comms - make her do it - she's comms after all!!!"
The town of Lake Jackson has no power. And no answers from the power company. Even the mayor can't get answers.
I'm so sorry. We have had no power OR water since Monday early am.
And what about the people who have to throw away hundreds of dollars worth of groceries now?How are we supposed to fix that
Don't worry. Centerpoint will take care of that problem for you, by raising rates so high, you'll never be able to afford food again! Problem solved!
Lesson learned is having all stakeholders or their representatives involved in the preparation phase. The state watchdog shall review center point’s plans before hurricane landing, the same shall also apply to county and city officials. Just have to beef up the game
Our power was repaired and was up for a couple days. Now it's back down.
Heard that might happen to those got power back 1st. The excuse is to lessen the load when energizing the neighboring areas. Supposedly once the other area are back up the can bring power back safely for everyone.
After Katrina Houston power suppliers charge for up grades on lines to customers so this very thing could be prevented. What is happening to all that money they collected and still collect on every light bill? Why do we have millions of people out of power when those people have been paying to have poles replaced and updates to the power grid for years?
They can invent any number they want. How can it be verified? I haven’t seen a bucket truck in our area yet. Lady, no one is irritated with the line workers. The focus of the wrath is your lack of communication and honesty.
It’s not the line workers fault it’s on the ppl who were supposed to prepare
Bingo. Someone gets it.
@davidscarborough713 exactly ..in south fla call fpl or Louisiana next door 😢
Exactly ❤
How long does it takes to make an assessment? Dayss???? Just conect the wires!!!!
That that is how you blow up more transformers and fuses when there is a short somewhere down the line. Sure, they can be faster but things are not as simple as you think.
@@ericl5973 hahahhaha, you are correct. Did not think of the sparks, and blowing up'ss.
Still doing assessments 😂
Assessments is the word of the week.
Same....there are some areas around me that have power and others close by that are being worked on now...
They forgot about us in sugar land and we are next to center point
Im a Truck driver in Houston, see alot of staged crews, but not working in neighborhoods. Trucks, from Ohio, South Carolina, but where are they working at...
Did not know about help sc? Ohio something wrong and triage hospital an nurs homes prioritize don't ya thi k
Build a new grid and make Mexico pay for it. lol
Center Point they still working outside with 100 ° Prayer for all of them.
And THIS is why I went out and bought a new generator for all my home power needs. Best purchase I've ever made. The grid can die, but I won't!
We lost our power again after getting back, power has been out for 2 hours now
That tells me they are messing around with the grid's distribution. They took your power away to give it to someone else. ONLY explanation!!!
@@ElizabethF2222that’s completely false
They probably had to turn it off to safely repair something else also fed off the same line as you, or something else failed, storms often leave behind dangly limbs and what not, limb finally breaks, knocks everything out again. It happens. It’s certainly not what that first response to your comment says. That’s just delusional. Lol
If a Cat 1 Hurricane leaves Houston with the most outages ever reported how is CenterPoint or the grid in any way prepared for a say cat 3 or 4 storm?
How many times does a company have to keep throwing a band aid on the problem and not identify possible long term solutions.
I have heard that aggressive overhauls to make the Houston grid more resilient would cost the company too much in the order of Billions. So the long of it Centerpoint’s profits are more important than your health, comfort and safety.
They really called us and said to expect an outage for the next several days
I was hoping we might get power back by this friday...but I have a feeling it won't be until next week
Almost seems like being the lone star in the power grid
Prayers for Texas
Where's the truck
Centerpoint ceo has power at his house, lets all go squat there
It was A TROPICAL STORM by the time it HOUSTON!! IF A TS does this - I hate to see a Cat 2 or higher.

1:20 don't forget about Galveston & southern brazoria county. We still don't have power either. Lines down in both places .
Thanks them for been incompetent?
Same old same old! 😵💫😵💫
I’ve been thru 2 major outages in urban/statewide scope; once for 8 days and the other for 9 days. Much of the areas statewide were out of power for WEEKS. The rich and main thruways got back on line 1st in my experience. Hospitals have backup generators.
I take comfort in the fact that rich people have standby generators, and are actually making a profit selling the excess back to the utility.
Well you certainly threw the BS flag sky high there didn’t you? “rich people have standby generators…”. Having backup power has nothing to do with being rich. It is all about planning appropriately. You on here trying to put others down, as if to say you aren’t rich so you can’t have… what kind of car do you drive and how much did you pay for it? Cell phone? Living expenses… it isn’t about rich. It is about choices made. I am not rich, I don’t have a car payment, haven’t had one since 2006. I have put aside money for a standby generator and when I saved enough to pay for it, I called my electrician, told him what I wanted and got his quote to install. I will be under my estimated budget for it. It has taken me almost 5 years to save enough for it. I live in a budget, have no debt, I save until I have what is needed to buy want I want or need. It takes discipline and perseverance. You are using your ignorance, and piss poor planning as excuses. Take ownership of your situation, stop using credit cards, pay for stuff in cash, payoff debt, save money for your future, you take care of you, and stop blaming others. “Rich people, how do you think they got to be where they are? They sacrificed til they made it. You need to do the same. If not, stop whining about others.
I have a Generac. Cost me all of $5,000. It's served me well for 3 hurricanes. I took out a loan, and paid it off over 36 months instead of subscribing to cable TV.
@@t3angling575. Exactly. Why is everyone blaming the power companies. As I recall they forewarned you before it happened. Blame yourself for not being prepared. I did not blame no one cause I was out of power for a week cause of a wildfire. I fired up my generator and life went on. Be prepared people. The government is not going to help you.
@@Rusty1972 ❤️
@@Rusty1972 our species has become soft and far too reliant on govt and others. Creature comforts have become the norm. Adversity no longer makes you a better person who learns to do with the adverse; it weakens many, is actually crippling. But hey, I do not throw on my bad azz suit a go seeking trouble, they said, if it comes my way, and I have no other option of resolution- by God it’s game on. But I have found in my 60 plus years on this Earth, 9.99% of the time that is a waste of time, energy, and effort, with absolutely nothing gained. Great comment, appreciate you! God bless!
Yeah, Michelle I think the problem is the 1 Million Plus People don't have Food and Water because the Grocery Stores ran out of Gas to run their Generators.
I bet she has power in her home
🤣 right
Hey Centerpoint I can’t breathe. Do better.
Did Ted Cruz go to Cancun?
Cruz was in California and came back to Houston the day before the hurricane
Is the power going to be restored faster if Cruz is in Houston? Do you think he's up in a bucket truck himself?

Its the ice storm screwup level of incompetence
That's Texas
Yet people keep moving to Texas like lemmings off a cliff.
No power in the Parker/Airline neighborhood. Now on hour 56. 😥
Same here out in Conroe TX.
Finally got power back on near The Woodlands. Generator ran for 60 hours.
@@patriciasmith161Congratulations 👍🏾. My bedroom is 90 degrees.
Once you get your power back expect your rates to skyrocket, but your pay will remain the same.
It aint the lineman either people. It's our cot in the upper management. I've set a point in reliant. Ercot needs to go half. Those board members don't even live in the state of texas
Smart meters saved HL&P lots of money, did not have meter readers any more. Remote activation, connect your power, disconnect your power just by tapping a few clicks on the computer, they know if you have electricity service just by talking to the smart meter. Paid $321 dollars for mine. Other states make them free, part of service because hundreds of workers out of work.
by the look of it centerpoint has all these truck and they don't know how to delegate where to start and begins. it just show you the type of people they have in charge. they have no plan whatsoever on how to access damage and how to fix anything. smh.
Tuesday afternoon after the storm i drove surface streets from Cypress to Stagecoach to Woodlands and back to Cypress. I didn’t see a single electrical crew. Not one.
Talking about looking at jar half full instead of empty. 1 million restored but still 1.3 million without.
I mean restoring a million people in a few days isn’t a small task
Screw them. I'm getting a Generac.
They seem pretty good but expensive.
Very expensive, but I don't blame you one bit. Either get a good generator or move out of hurricane-prone areas. I can't afford to do either.
$750 for a generator transfer switch, $500 to run your nat gas line to your power box (if you have one). Now you can have a $1000 generator ready to roll instead of paying $10,000 for one installed.
SOUTHEAST TEXAS DEREGULATED ELECTRICITY 25 YEARS AGO WITH THE BUSHWACKERS AND MADE THEIR OWN MESS. REREGULATE ELECTRICITY.
Baytown Tx here still no power
The hum of generators is the new normal.
People need to invest in generators, if at all possible. Never rely on an overworked system to keep you out of danger.
Where is Cancun Cruz and Asia Abbott?
In Cancun and Asia
Why haven't you increased the work force santa point? Why did you get rid of a bunch of people centerpoint? Why did you wait till after to contact outside sources of help? You are not prepared, you didn't want to Prepare and you're still charging high rates. You're guaranteed a profit from the city. They need to be altered and they need to be investigated with a microscope
Overall this is normal after a hurricane. They are actually ahead of the pace they set with hurricane Ike, 16 years ago. You have to rely on outside utility help. The best thing is for cities to have more emergency shelters available. Disasters take time to remedy.
Mere 3% of entire TX population. Big deal! Deal with it! We got worst shit to deal with all over the nation! You folks were bragging about lots of things. Man up!
The restoration process needs to be investigated.
I can already tell you what you’ll find, the linework has remained the same, and the line worker has remained the same, although there are fewer of them. Inside the corporate side of the power companies you’ll find out that they went hot and heavy with DEI, this has resulted in quite the incompetence in not only the day to day operations but when a storm hits, o lord. These companies literally have playbooks to follow for storms, formed over years of experience, unfortunately that experience was forced out due to
Lack of diversity, then of course every generation thinks they know more than the last, so they try to rewrite the book, making impractical decisions that ultimately result in delays and in this case incompetence. It’s the sad truth, people may disagree but I’ve seen it with my own eyes. Don’t blame the fellas on the street, look higher, that’s where you’ll find the problem.
I hope there's been a Disaster Declaration to mobilize more resources.
HOT AND HUMID = LETHAL COMBO
Where’s Greg Abbott at? Red states are in such bad shape because they keep electing clowns.
He's in Japan.

Abbott is out of the country. 😂
Cat 5 over Houston would require the military to intervene to maintain order during the 36 months it would take to rebuild the city. Most of the population would need to be relocated. I wonder if the sanctuary cities would have room for them.
Centerpointless is the name, and don't you forget it.
No bill for the month or we riot.
When , we have power?
It's because centerpoint messed up and they just need to go ahead and admit it I'm not talking about the workers I'm talking about the management
Yup sometimes the power goes out.

Thought you all had this nailed down and ready to succeed. Looks like you may need some help after all. Texas is a great state...at least the countryside. I grew up there and lover the land but Texas isn't all there is.
Hospitals have generators
#CENTERPOINTLESS
Now way will they meet that goal tonight....rhis may be more than a week.
"Oh yes, we'll have power back on to one million customers by tonight." Meanwhile, in the background, nothing but rows and rows of electric company trucks ready to roll...WTF!?!?!? Do I look like I have "stupid" written on my fucking forehead??? Sweet Jesus, help save me from a city that STILL HASN'T LEARNED FROM PREVIOUS STORMS!!! Beryl broke several records, didn't follow any of the forecast models, didn't hit Jamaica which they did say it would at one point and I heard a forecaster say it!!! I swear being a meteorologist is the only career where you can completely eff it up yet still be able to keep your job. Ugh!!!
Be thankful you can be frustrated.... Your Texans your tougher than these yoyo's on the weather channel.
Has someone who's done this work this person is full of it there's no way you're going to get a million people back in 48 hours or 24 hours after that storm hit the tree Crews aren't even a day in front of you Baby by 2 weeks they'll have a million people but I can't see any sooner than that substations power lines and Main distribution lines have to be rehung
They already promised the mayor that they would have it done, John Whitmire has warned them if it isn't done then they will be facing heavy fines and hearings, people like me in Houston are at the point of armed protest at centerpoint energy HQ, if what you say is true then a lot of people at centerpoint will be held accountable and some of us don't care if we have to become judge jury and executioner. Centerpoint has failed us for the last time
The majority commenting have no idea of the complexity of power distribution and the grid. Things have to be done in order as you alluded and they may not get to all the end users on a particular circuit as they are working.
Maybe they just hired a bunch of DEI workers to give the linemen instructions or something. Centerpoint used to be on top of this stuff.
The DEI stuff has mostly been implemented inside, on the corporate side, the linemen are still linemen, trust me. Now of course they need to be dispatched properly, and coordination is key, that behind the scenes stuff is where you’ll find the incompetence and the lack of accountability. The linemen will push thru it, and you’ll have power back.
You can't make everyone happy and people tend to have no patience in this instant gratification utopia craving delusional 'quick fix' age we are living in.
I love the channel but turn it anytime jordan speaks. I love Pattern but I only watch it if jordon is not hosting
Centerpoint is total trash. 4 days without power now.
