    I actually like that they sell apartments as shells. Then it's up to you how much money you want to spend finishing it with your own style. In America we call them condos and you have no choice of interior, they build everything and you have to go through hell to change things. That vinyl ceiling is amazing!

    • @TonyKuzminVlogs
      @TonyKuzminVlogs  3 роки тому +5

      Thats true! When you buy a new condo in Russia you can usually you can chose the shell or some basic finish. Usually its like +$2-4K to the price

    • @bannol1
      @bannol1 3 роки тому +3

      The reason they don’t sell condos as shells has to do with consumer expectations. In the US, Canada and Australia, the only time you get to choose the fit out of an apartment is when it is bought off the plan. Developers will offer a standard package of inclusions, such as floor coverings , internal doors, kitchen cabinets, appliance packages, built-in wardrobes (which are standard). The same goes for light fittings, blinds for windows, bathroom walls and furnishings, air conditioning and heating etc. For additional cost buyers are offered a choice of different appliance packages, materials and other fit out options. Basically when the apartment building is completed so are the units and people only have to move in with their personal belongings. Buyers absolutely have the option to completely personalise their new apartment from the get go, if they want to, but that also costs more money. In North America and Australia people tend to be more mobile and move house a lot more frequently than they do in Europe and Russia. The average occupancy period is about three to four years. In Europe and Russia it is usually ten years or longer. The same thing applies for buying a house from a building company. Here in Australia building companies build display villages of brand new, fully furnished homes for prospective customers to look at. This usually happens when a new area has opened up for development. Say, that land was purchased, cleared and subdivided by a developer for a thousand new homes. The developer will build a complete street of houses for display. All homes are offered with two or three standard internal and external fit out packages to lock up stage so the houses are move in ready on completion. If a customer chooses a particular display home to be built on their land they have the choice to customise at additional cost. Things like kitchens, bathrooms, wardrobes, window furnishings, light fittings, electrical outlets, light switches, cooling and heating are decided before the home is built, not after.

    I absolutely ♥️ that there is NO wallpapers❣️❣️ I hate wallpaper. I love the modern tile in the bathroom. Have you ever thought of making the toilet room, shower, and sink ONE room? And separating the clothes washer into a separate area?
    Absolutely beautiful job!

    • @TonyKuzminVlogs
      @TonyKuzminVlogs  2 роки тому +7

      Actually there are walpapers everywhere :)
      I picked such designs that looks like paint. Walpapers are easier to apply than paint, you dont need to prepare the walls so well. toilet and shower is a good solution when you have enough space or you have +1 toilet. When you are limited in space having a separate toilet allow you to better organize it, like you have one more wall to put vanity for example. I have 15+ year of interior design expirience and made a lot of layouts so for this apartment and our needs we got the best solution :)

      Our countries need more trained trades people! My oldest son is an off road and on road Master Mechanic, a journeyman welder and has his class #1 for driving semi! He is 50 yrs old and without all this training it would be hard to find good work! My second oldest son is a Math teacher and drives a semi and does cement work on the weekend! My middle son just lost his restaurant to Cov restrictions and so he driving semi as well! My fourth son is a roofer and he had his own business but was so heavily regulated that he could not afford to keep it! It was sold to a Vietnamese family that were able to purchase it through Canada’s immigration program that gives them major financial help and if you hire immigrants the Government gives you tax breaks and helps pay wages! They hired my son to teach them the roofing business and he is their “ token Canadian “ ! They can only afford to hire immigrants! The workers like my son but he must take his lunch alone bc they do not like to eat with Canadians! They did hire a Black Muslim man who is very kind and has befriended my son! My son is Roman Catholic Métis! My youngest son of 5 sons is a rare breed as he is a proper stone Mason and bricklayer! He was taught by Italians and Portuguese and Irish people! Every apprentice was to work with 4 journeymen but he worked with 7 in Saskatchewan that uses more stone and brick than wood! This is much better for the environment! He also works with Red Pheasant First Nations to teach bricklaying and such! They are Cree and my son is Lakota and Irish! He brought 10 Irishmen from Dublin to help out and they get along so well with everyone! They sing and dance at work but on the weekends they drink and party! They are so loved here and have taught us a lot about Irish life! These people have known hardship! They do not complain! We have 1 Ulster Scott and he plays bagpipes and works like a dog! Lovely man and we tease him lots! He is a good man!
      We always say, “ How useful you are in a room determines your success!

    Very well done, I bought a new construction three bedroom apartment in St. Petersburg in 2002, it looked almost identical to yours as far as the being an empty shell when I took over and started renovations. It was a few years in the making, and I can certainly appreciate all the hard work you did. We had ceilings which were panel and totally horribly constructed and not level and we had to drop the ceiling, and also use some of the floating plastic ceilings for other rooms. It came out very nice. We had to of course I install add doors, new windows radiators, lights, plumbing.

    • @pamelajaye
      @pamelajaye 3 роки тому

      I think it's true that is a nice size kitchen. I can't even tell if mine is bigger. Mine is open on both ends. The one where I grew up was open on both ends but one end had three different doors at that end, but it did have a pantry. So it had a pantry door and the door to the cellar / basement and also the back door to the house. they all ran into each other. But there wasn't really any kitchen in that part of it. It was just a corner. All my kitchens have been galley kitchens. I like them better and I didn't really get a choice in any of them so I am happy that I had That kind. I like to be able to stand in one place and reach everything. I like to have more counter space but my roommates keep putting stuff all over the counters. And there are always three of us going through the kitchen. When my brother moved in I told him since he owned his own refrigerator he had to bring it with him. My roommate and I already took up all the space in the refrigerator we had and we couldn't split it any further. So we have two big refrigerators. Side by side. One is in the kitchen and one is in the dining room. And there is the tiniest bit of doorway wall in between The two of them. And you always have to wait until someone is done in the refrigerator until you can get by, although you could go the other way. When I lived in Salem our kitchen only had one open end. Sometimes people would come over to have a potluck and there would be women in my kitchen. And I would line them up against the sink and the counter and they would be chopping and washing and rinsing and whatever and I could get five people in my kitchen as long as only one of them was moving back and forth. On the other side we just had countertop. Although we had to make it ourselves from pieces of cabinetry and a long long piece of wood that my friend made for us. I brought it with me to Florida in the moving van. I wasn't going to leave that behind. And my dishwasher. My odd gave me a portable dishwasher and I had never had one my family never had one. So I brought it with me cuz my mother didn't have one either. It takes up extra space in the kitchen but then again, more countertop. It's a little heavy to push around but at least I don't have to push it very far. I used to have to push it all the way to the dining room in my old apartment.

    It looks great! To hear that the ceilings are vinyl is a bit of a shocker- never heard of that before… out of curiosity, why is the washing machine loaded from the toilet? It would seem more convenient to load from the bedroom since the wardrobe would be adjacent to it. I was also surprised not to see a balcony. Are newly constructed buildings in Russia not putting those in?

    • @TonyKuzmin

      Vinyl ciellings are very popular in Russia. Abou the washing machine... we used to have it in bathrooms, because all of the wet stuff pipes, and so on, also we store all washing chemicals in there. Also load the washer from toilet makes better sound insulation, you can sleep while machine is working :)

You have to touch the toilet room door and the bathroom door with “dirty” hands before you can wash them after using the toilet. I have two kids and thinking about the potential germs they could spread from one space to another makes me shudder, lol.

    The area above the kitchen cabinets where the vent hoses are can be closed I so you don’t see them. You did a very nice job. Bright colors on the walls make it look bigger. Such a small bed for them. Did they not want a queen size bed? You should paint the storage both walls and ceiling and tile the floor so it looks like more than a storage.

    • @TonyKuzminVlogs

      Yes, we werw thinking to cover the hoses, but it was additional cost, also we must have the access to it by the code. The bed size is quite common for russin apartments, bigger bed would take more space in a small bedroom.

I’m not familiar with the codes there but I would think as long as one has access to it which you can get the hinges that would hold the door open either the door opens upwards or either side. Hi Tony, I just watched your video again because I like what you did in this flat. I've done a lot of ceramic tile work over the years because I like the idea of using something that cleans easily. If I could I'd cover all the walls in my house in tile but I don't think it would look so good in other rooms besides the bathroom and kitchen. I have an idea what you might like to do on the side of the closet by the door. I saw this done in a flat I was in once. The owner made a folding stool for people to sit and take their shoes and boots off. He made it so the stool stores on the side of the closet outside wall when it's folded up. It was all made of wood except for the cushion on the top. I thought that was really need especially for me since I'm pretty tall and it's a lot easier to unlace boots sitting down. :-) When he pulled the folded stool from its clamp that held it to the wall the two legs came out about the same time it was set on the floor. The stool was hinged to the wall in order to allow it to come down and only having two legs.

    • @TonyKuzminVlogs

      Yes! we actually plan to put some kind of bench beside the closet, but not folded. Also there will be a cat's toilet inside of it :)

    Way different then in America, it looks good but I do have a few things I would change like have a separate room for the toilet is decent but you could gain so much more room if you combined the shower and toilet in one room and I’d move that washing machine out of the bedroom if you do laundry at night you’re going to hear it run when you try to go to sleep I’d also remove that dividing wall and mount the tv on a different wall so it’s completely open also heat all of the floors and get rid of the wall radiator they do look decent and they work great but if you heated the entire floor you would have plenty to heat the whole apartment

    • @TonyKuzminVlogs
      @TonyKuzminVlogs  Рік тому

      If we would combine the toilet and showel we would lost a wall for vanity. Washing machine is pretty silent, also we did good insulation, so there no noise. That dividing wall is load bearing, we could not remove it, but we made it much shorter. The heated floors are the best, but not allowed in this building and very expensive.

    A new apartment this size with finishes like this can cost $1 million in cities like New York. Most American apartments don’t even have amenities like heated floors, dishwashers, outdoor space, or even washing machines. 50k here maybe you can buy a parking space for your car, that’s it.

    • @TonyKuzminVlogs
      @TonyKuzminVlogs  2 роки тому

      Thats true, but I would compare it to an apartment in a small town in Florida. Most of the price is location.

    • @stephen1922
      @stephen1922 2 роки тому +1

      @@TonyKuzminVlogs What I mainly meant is cost spent on actual housing vs amenities. When the house is affordable you can easily spend more on interior luxuries. But when housing isn’t affordable, you have to go cheap on interiors. That’s the trend here as housing becomes unreachable. Cheaper materials, fewer amenities, no modern finishes etc. Its very ironic to me.

    • @stephen1922
      @stephen1922 2 роки тому

      @@TonyKuzminVlogs You would be surprised. There are apartments in worse quality than this, around the same size, for sale in New York over $500k. The large ceilings, modern kitchen, washing machine, HUGE multiple windows, including a personal balcony, would cost a lot of money in New York.
