- MAUSER C96 Broomhandle in 7.63×25mm Mauser cartridge.
The Mauser C96 (Construktion 96) is a semi-automatic pistol that was originally produced by German arms manufacturer Mauser from 1896 to 1937.
Unlicensed copies of the gun were also manufactured in Spain and China in the first half of the 20th century.
The distinctive characteristics of the C96 are the integral box magazine in front of the trigger, the long barrel, the wooden shoulder stock which can double as a holster or carrying case and a grip shaped like the handle of a broom. The grip earned the gun the nickname "Broomhandle" in the English-speaking world because of its round wooden handle, and in China the C96 was nicknamed the "box cannon" (Chinese: 盒子炮; pinyin: hézipào) because of its square-shaped internal magazine and the fact it could be holstered in its wooden box-like detachable stock. It was used by the Latvian anarchist Peter Piaktow in 1911 and was therefore known as the 'Peter the Painter' gun by the IRA.
The Mauser C96, with its shoulder stock, long barrel, and high-velocity cartridge, had superior range and better penetration than most other pistols; the 7.63×25mm Mauser cartridge was the highest velocity commercially manufactured pistol cartridge until the advent of the .357 Magnum cartridge in 1935.
Approximately 1 million C96 pistols were manufactured by Mauser, with the number produced in Spain and China being large but unknown due to the loss, non-existence or poor upkeep of production records from those countries.
I think it's such a cool feature that the pistol can be stored inside its stock
What makes it even better is the fact that this pretty much allows you to carry a fully-loaded spare, so when you're empty you could just open up the stock, pull out a fresh one and continue firing
@@riatorex8722 New York reload circa 1896?
@@zacharyrollick6169 XD yeah I doubt Mauser themselves would've even thought of such a possibility when they first designed the gun. But from a modern day's perspective it makes the gun even more awesome than it already is. Truly a marvel of German engineering
@@riatorex8722 but damn, the weight tho. No matter, sacrifice is needed for german supremacy

Yes agree! In re and real life the gun sound is similar enough and that weapon holster and weapon stock its look same
RE4 gun is based on German 9 mm modification, so that's why we see those red 9 on the handle and use the same ammo as other pistols in the game.
Best handgun in Resident Evil 4, powerful and worth of the exclusive upgrade, a keeper for the entire game, great for conserving shotgun and rifle ammo for close fights due to its high damage.

This is actually one of my top 10 favorite pistols. Kinda wish I owned one, even if it was a replica.
Someday I'll own one. Can remember as a kid, seeing these in gun magazines, for sale $149.99 plus shipping. Lugers were $199.99. All the numbers matched, and God what are they worth now? I had a Black Widow, not 100% matching, that i sold for $2500.00 in 2011. Never owned a broomstick Mauser though, and would love one especially in 30 Luger. Worth it just for the muzzle flash...
Yup turners back around 1985 had them for that much some still in cosomoline
What really is a mind-blower is the amount of technology for the time. 1896 was quite a few years ago. We should all be doing so good at 120! Goes to show you what a little care and routine maintenance can do...plus a bit of luck, too!

I remember my father having one of these, along with a few other military weapons. About 55 years ago, I would go shooting with him and a few of his friends at Purfleet Ranges in Essex.
Do you still have it?
@@theequalizer9154 No, unfortunately. In 1997 the Government brought in a law banning the public from owning handguns. This was following a high profile mass shooting at a school.
So, the only people that have handguns now are the criminals and the Police. Handguns are still responsible for about 30 murders (homicides) per year and about 1700 injuries (according to the Office for National Statistics.
At the time of the ban, most private handgun owners used them for sport at local ranges. Peter Squires is professor of criminology and public policy at the University of Brighton.
He is quoted in an article in the Independent newspaper as saying "“Handguns were mainly used by urban, working-class men who would fire them on entirely legal and licensed ranges. The more elite end of the sport, the grouse shooters, was quite happy to let the handgun shooters go."
Unfortunately many historical weapons were scrapped.
My Uncle has two lugers that were owned by his father during WW2. He was in the Blue (Azul) Division that Franco sent to Germany to fight on the Eastern Front.
I'd love to have them, but the only way they could come to the UK would be if they were destroyed by deactivating them.
I was a Police Officer in the UK that voted in the 1990's not to be armed, but I do think the Government made an error. They bring in laws for sentencing for gun and knife possession, but never use the law to it's full extent, so crime pays for many criminals.

And of questionable legality, seeing how the ATF is dicking around trying to make pistol brakes an NFA item.

My son likes firearms; especially that one! He has read about the C96 Mauser broomhandle; finds it very interesting and wishes that some arms company would make a live firing reproduction of it.
According to the asinine ATF (that really needs to be disbanded), you had an unregistered SBR when you used that shoulder stock.
c&r rules apply here which override the sbr rule
Wouldn't adding a stock just make it a pistol caliber carbine or AOW?
The ATF is so retarded.
@@partyrobbins4690 no, for pretty much all c96 the C&R rules overrule any SBR law so long as it is kept in original configuration, this is due to the age of the gun.
had the C&R rules not come into play then it would be considered an SBR as it would have been technically manufactured as a rifle in the eyes of the ATF due to it coming from the factory with a stock.
Whose the idiot who created the atf
The ATF actually has a specific ruling on these and other stocked historical pistols (like the Luger and Browning HP) that exempts them from SBR rules.
This is,probably the most well-known pistol in China, with nicknames like "box canon","mirror box".
So maybe that's why I've seen it a lot in Chinese movies
China had millions of illegal reproductions of these guns. That's why it's often seen in various Chinese films
this is sexier and stronger than the blacktail.

Question! Does it make a great difference with the stock on compared to without? I mean in accuracy and recoil. This is one of my top 3 guns, and I love the inovation of carrying the gun itself in the stock. I wish I will someday fire one myself. Wonderful video and great job of showcasing this beauty. 10/10
The gun is quite frontheavy when loaded, due to the magazine situated up front, so one handing it can take getting used to, the weigh also changes as you empty the magazine. The stocks allows extra point of stability as it can be propped against shoulder which also takes away the weigh issue and allows the shooter to keep the sights on target much easier than without.
Attaching a stock to any kind of firearm will typically improve the operator's accuracy. Having three points of contact with the weapon allows the user to hold the gun steadier, thus preventing weapon sway due to muscular fatigue. There will be some amount of recoil reduction, but the Mauser C96 is chambered in 9mm, so it doesn't have a crazy amount of recoil anyways. Especially given the weapons weight when compared to modern composite pistols.
@@ethanbolender179 The C96 came in 3 flavours: 7.63x25 Mauser, 9x19 Luger and extremely rare & more powerful 9x25 Mauser (this round is getting close to .357Mag).

Beautiful pistol.
Is the stripper clip tricky? You seem to use caution when loading it. Dam fine pistol, im jealous.
+Phil Mahooters the clipper is what holds the magazine open, as soon you remove it, the gun '' closes ''.
You can see when he removes it!
In my experience, it takes a fair bit of force to move the rounds off the clip with these guns
That gun is in fantastic condition. In fact its nicer than any ive ever seen for sale. Id treat it with care as well, and wouldnt go all tacticool commando even if I could, just for a youtube video.
Phil Mahooters oi
Most stripper clips are tricky, especially when they are long and thin like this one. The biggest problem when loading from them is when they flex, they can bind making the rounds seem like they're impossible to move. If you push down perfectly straight, you can get them to work really smoothly. It's a practice thing.

Winston Churchill used one of these in Sudan...1898 I guess
I read that. He said he would have been killed if he did not have his Mauser.
@N V M E R I V S It's been a while but I read an excerpt from his biography. While in Sudan serving in the British military he was separated from his fellow troops while on horseback. A number of Sudanese then surrounded him armed with what I believe I remember were spears. Only a large number of very fast and accurate shots from his Mauser allowed him to escape. I think he was also captured by the Boers in South Africa and escaped and also was an opium addict at one time. I think it would be a fascinating read!
