Before a few weeks ago, I had never heard of the wonderful talent that is Tyla Seethal, the star behind Amapiano pop fusion hit "Getting Late" produced by Kool Drink a.k.a Munashe Kugarakuripi. The song went viral after the video was released in January 2021 and it hasn't stopped making waves. Tyla is now signed to Sony's Epic Records since May 2021 following the success of Getting Late in that short time. That was quick. Real quick.
So... how did Tyla 'make it' so quickly in an industry that takes most artists YEARS to even get small recognition? I break down what I could find out to then answer the question "Is Tyla An Industry Plant?"
Make Me Sweat, Make Me Hotter (Tyla - Water)

I don't want to accuse anyone, I think she has a beautiful voice (as well as being extremely enchanting) and I really like her songs; However, it seems strange to me that "Water" is being pushed so much abroad, and on social media. Tyla was also a guest on the tonight show (unusual for an artist with only one international hit in his discography), a lot of interviews on different countries, also on German TV (I don't know what the Germans have to do with the amapiano) and numerous other appearances.
I also saw on TikTok people who sponsored the artist a lot, as if she were the only one of her music genre (rip more experienced ayra starr, tems, aya nakamura lol )
In summary, industry plant or not, I like her music and this is the only thing that matters, even if sincere it is very visible that her success has already been planned :)
Thanks for your comment 💛 from another perspective, labels do choose which artist/s to push more than others based on potential, existing numbers and projections. This may simply be a label choosing to put fuel to a fire that has been burning for nearly 5 years. She has had excellent preparation already and was already in at the highest level of industry in South Africa 2 or 3 years before Ayra came out as an artist with a hit record that did well on the dance/DJ scene all over. The fact that this video is 2 years old also paints the picture. Very few artists get so lucky to start where she started regardless
This is very mean of u.tyla been working so hard since 2019.if u say her success was planned ? Did the plan include hopping from one media house to another and using an iPhone to shoot her very first video? We have seen another of celebs that have come up due to tiktok.iys so disappointing wen u keep comparing her to Ayra n tems success, wen those two came up,the entire Africa supported them as our very own but when we do the same for Tyla,u find a problem? We have supported every Nigerian artist that came up .or maybe just say yo not used to seeing artists from other African countries succeed.its been always Nigeria and the rest of us have only been proud of fellow Africans .so stop the plant narrative so it's stirred by jealousy .concerned ugandan
Sex sells people's don't care about talent
@@jahannakitto7604questioning something without blindindly believing isn’t mean. Y’all get offended over everything. No one is saying tyla is not talented or she doesn’t DESRVE what she has.
She just won a Grammy for water, but Miley Cyrus just won her first Grammy after all these years this year as well.
And now she's taking the world by storm with water....so happy and excited to our superstar soar.... she's not just trending but breaking the Internet. ....49 million views n counting....so proud of her
She's doing AMAZING
I’m just hearing of this girl but she’s
1. Stunning
2. Sings well
3. Dances well
4. Is light skinned with soft features
People are mainly superficial…men and women are attracted to her. Even if she couldn’t sing or dance, as long as she looks a certain way, she has a chance to succeed.
Interesting perspective!
Well said.
She is an Indian.
@@patriciahercules6852 how do we trace her lineage ?
@@patriciahercules6852she describes her background of being indian and zulu. Don’t discount her blackness. A lot of South Africans have a mixed background.
It always seems like it happened overnight…girl been grinding. I found her on Insta when she was in high school still.
Yeah, when you peel the layers you realize that 'overnight success' is rarely ever that!
Nah dude overnight success is never like that. Take a look at all the old greats they started out playing local shows, then regional shows, and finally they do a full country tour making it big. It's a gradual process tyla is only ever known in South Africa, if it wasn't for social media nobody in America would know who she is. It's hard enough for an American to make it big, but a total foreigner who's never made their name in the states and all of a sudden just hit off in the states never having set foot here. I don't buy it at all tyla is another "ice spice" in the making but she's just way more attractive and I think they're trying to replace ice spice.
@@MM3OG lol it's been 3 months since my comment. It's clear as day to me now there's a big machine behind Tyla. nobody just goes from singing on instagram in Pretoria to opening for Chris Brown.
Faxx😂😂something isn't adding up. Soon she'll belong to the music industry
You're forgetting the power of the algorithm and Tiktok.. the path to becoming a superstar today is not what it was even 10 years ago @@shanegilbert6574
Tyler is beautiful, talented beautiful voice, and she can sing and dance all this package in one person she earned and deserve
100% agree
She Have the Right skin for protection from South Africa 🇿🇦 duhhh
Im american and what brought me here was a video on the the african dispora channel. Phil says tyla said she dosen't identify as black. Wtf
Wow wow wow wow This is beautifully made. The dots🔥🔥🔥
Thanks homie, took a bit of digging haha
I just hope this beautiful young lady does not sell her soul , like most people do but not everyone
We've seen her alrdy in some video with Chris brown soooo she is in it already
She already sang that she can't wait to get her soul snatched! Come and take it! It's in the lyrics.
She already did
@@butterflystardust3143 which song
She already did
She has 4 songs in total and people only know of 1 song "water". She shakes her behind pouring water on it while singing 1 verse for 3 mins. You can't tell me she isn't an industry plant shes just another ice spice, the music could be boring but if they shaking their a$$ it doesn't matter.
Yeah, it also depends where you experienced Tyla because in South Africa she blew up 4 years ago with her first song and back then she wasn't signed to a major but her manager is a well-connected guy. Such a rich story and unusual whichever way
@@MJWemoto well I'm just speaking from an American standpoint. I know she's just another sex icon because you can't compare tyla to let's say Aliyah who actually made music with lyrics. That's just the way the industry is all about sex doesn't matter what you're saying. Idk man maybe I just see through the bs matrix and others don't. Something is just weird with all these random celebrities popping up out of thin air just to keep us entertained and distracted.
@@MM3OGher song late is goood , definitely not on waters level . But idk if she’s gonna be another Ariana grande or Rihanna . She’s definitely meant to be famous though !! She’ll make other good music in the future but i’m not sure about back to back hits . Her appearance definitely plays a big role in her success though
I disagree with this. I think the music industry is trying to be more diverse. The points with Tyla is she can dance, sing, she’s very sexy but has an innocence appeal. NO BBL, no fake body just a natural petite shape. She’s light skin( which is always a major industry factor sadly) , has natural coolie hair. Plus she’s young. This is what the industry is looking for! And she’s not ratchet!
Let’s be honest. Rihanna is played out lol.. people love her but she’s older now, focused on having multiple kids and working on other businesses not really music. Plus when Rihanna was in, she couldn’t dance or really sing. She had an exotic look from the Caribbean with a feisty attitude and a great sense of fashion. That’s what made her Rihanna plus being signed to JayZ.
Beyoncé was the total package but she’s old now hence why she’s introducing Blue Ivy to the stage to carry on her legacy. Don’t be shocked if Blue drops an music album in 2 years, or if they realize blue can’t sing like Beyoncé and it’s Rumi has the powerful voice like Beyoncé that’s who’s going to be next.
Ice Spice is not talented. Idk how she’s famous at all. That’s more of an example of Industry plant like Sexxxy Red. They both are trash artist with no talent and they emulate a poor example to young women. Their message is never respectful or motivating, but all sexualize and displeasing to a women morals.
In summary. I like Tyla! She’s a star and I wish her all the success no matter if it started from social media. Her come up wasn’t luck. It was in her destiny by God. So give her credit. She sings good music and it’s not trash
All her other songs are fire. Even if she doesn’t dance. The dance is just icing on the cake.
There is something called brand and marketing, which is something many in the music industry miss , Tyla has that.
Right now she's dressed by Versace, Donatella praising her , shooting for Vogue. Branding and Marketing goes a long way.
True
It’s looks fast to you . The song is fire 🔥.
The song is fire indeed!
this needs more attention 💯👌🔥
Cheers mate!
You need a part 2 for this
Do you mean contextualizing how she made it in the US now?
It's good learning more how Tyla started off her career and taking off rn 🎉
She's got such an exciting journey
lets also not forget beauty privilege guys 😥
🙆🏿♂️🙆🏿♂️🙆🏿♂️🙆🏿♂️
Indian beauty
Nahhh either way it's talent look at her now
And this video is 2 years old but she has made it big
And it's only the beginning!!
But that’s the industry and that’s life. Everyone knows being beautiful helps every time. Look at Laurie Harvey. She’s not talented in nothing yet people go crazy for her! At least Tyla’s the whole package.
But let’s be honest. Look at that rapper Scarlip from Brooklyn. She’s extremely talented in rapping but still no one cares too much about her. It’s really because she’s not attractive to the industry. Look her up then comment back and you’ll see what I mean.
The industry loves a beautiful light skin woman. Talented or not
Well isn't everything in life attained through networking/connections? Also she is extremely lucky because of social media, and the perfect timing. And, she is really pretty. That is a major factor. You know the world pushes you to success when ur that beautiful. And to be fair she did work hard from a young age. It's just a mixture of soo many things. Not sure if the word industry plant describes her. But yea, there are other talents that sound better and deserve this exposure so I get where you are coming from. But also, it is not about who sounds better, but someone who balnces out dancing, beauty, sound, personality will win in these times. And she does that. Am really curious to see down the road if things are working in her favor. Usually artists being pushed this way can get exploited.
Oh definitely. I agree that whichever way an artist finds their way into the industry, is fine because the individual stories will always be unique. In this case, the goal was to tell the backstory as it is as interesting as the artist and many people probably didn't know it. As they say, usually "overnight success is years in the making"
She actually talented 😭😭😭
Big time talent
@@MJWemoto is it now that you seeing that she talent
After all that questioning ??😂😂😂 damn😢
She’s fantastic ❤

Nothing is by luck in this business

A black man selling out his culture as usual. They did the same in America. Now nonblacks rule.
We are here, she is a Grammy winner bruh 🎉🎉🎉🎉
She has given a lot of people chest pains today! What a queen
I can answer how she became famous so quickly:
She was planted.
See? That wasnt so hard to answer now was it..
Lol
She learned shikira, dance moves, oh and a TICK tock talent .wowee!.
Bwahahahahha. Jelly?
It does seem like she became popular overnight. However, she definitely has singing sand d dancing talent and is pretty. She is not like the Kardashians who are famous but don't have any distinct talent save for showing their lives on reality TV and spinning that off into clothing and makeup businesses. Kudos to Tyla for her success!
Yeah it seems that way but there has been a lot of groundwork for sure. I remember one interview where the interviewer was impressed that she was there WELL before the scheduled time. That also shows other qualities like work ethic, respect, punctuality and overall taking it seriously etc which are often overlooked in this industry when one does have talent
She and her team are determined and ambitious. @@MJWemoto

She signed to an american record labels
Do you have a record label
One year later she is opening for Chris brown on his world tour. Talking about luck🤣🤣🤣
That would be some luck hey
@@MJWemoto She has already done that
The funny thing about luck, is how you still have to position yourself wisely for it to land.
@@t_rxleyabsolutely!💯💯💯
@@t_rxley I wouldn't call it luck because tyla knew the right people and all she had to do was shake her ass and show off her body. It doesn't take much for a woman to be famous but are they willing to be a sex icon That's the biggest question.
She had good song's, I first heard of her on Chris Brown's page, I was like who is this sound, it's very moving. You just have to have it and that's how, there is no okus pokus geesh can the girl just win?
I agree fully. This video is simply digging deeper into where she started, it builds context to help everyone understand the bigger picture - that's the goal.
@@MJWemoto it's nice to know where she started though her story is amazing.... let's you know you can....
Pray for Tyla 🙏🏼
🙆🏿♂️🙆🏿♂️🙆🏿♂️
She also built up a following on tiktok with her own talent and Commitrment which means she had came with a huge direct audience and market (not possible. In times past) she is also a personality. Doing her own style, own hair, own scripting, comedy, videos - these are all skills to a high level, this is also education. Tyla is educated. She has brains and vision. I get the sense of a young women who knows how to say no, and thats whats unusual.
facts all the way
Industry plant
I don't think artists with microwave success who started on such a stratospheric height of their careers ever last because they didn't start at ground zero to build a solid and core foundation of artist development and maturity. A foundation that holds their career sturdy enough to span as an illustrious, long and legendary career, one that holds a genuine fan base like Nicki Minaj's one (not just a social media one) and one that they can gradually elevate and flourish from.
a core foundation is a good recipe for longevity in music
Look at Rihanna who is beautiful but can’t sing or dance well yet she’s a billionaire and a household name. Tyla is not only gorgeous, she can sing and dance. She’ll be just fine.
@@shirlsshirls8594
It makes COMPLETE sense why Rihanna was very successful musically.
Rihanna started her career from the very, very bottom from Barbados, gradually pacing to the peak of her career and along the path, slowly attaining superstar recognition and building a core global fan base. She wasn't even mainstream yet at all, even if she were already buzzing and a little popluar, until her 3rd studio album Good Girl Gone Bad, and during this era that Rihanna released this body of work, social media marketing tools for music like Tick-Tock challenges had not even been birthed into the world yet. Yet, Tyla on the other hand instantly toppled into the mainstream market and had her music career skyrocketing with a debut single? A DEBUT SINGLE with no album? Not even Beyonce's career started off with a mainstream debut single. What I'm trying to say is, no skyscraper is built from the sky to rise. It is built from the GROUND UP, so it grips to gravity and so that it never collapses. Same thing goes for a music career. You can't start that high and continue to rise higher. No shade, but you will fall, very quickly so. Take a look at all the artists that were VERY hot in the 2010s like Raes Rummerd. Where are they now? Trust me, in 5 years, I don't think we will be hearing about Tyla but other upcoming artists of that particular era. 🤷🏾♂️
Rihanna can sing too tf

Doja cat is very talented let’s get that straight. I wouldn’t compare ice spice with her at all. That would be an insult. The only thing about Doja Car that I dislike is that she’s promoting demonic traits which honestly made me stop listening to her music.
