I recently got this bottle for 300, cracked it with my wife & a good buddy…absolutely love this pour, everything about it. It’s something special IMO!🥃👊🏻
Well first I just look for a dark fruit. Generally in a bourbon this old those dark fruits generally come out cherry or blackberry to me. It's all subjective but cherry is a bit more medical to me and blackberry is a sweet Jam.
I gave a whiskey collection of about 70 bottles of bourbon rye scotch and Irish Whiskey but it's a "working man's" Whiskey collection. 25 to 75 dollars is my broad sweet zone for price I have a couple of 100 dollar scotch and Irish Whiskey bit the vast majority of my collection is 25 to 75 bucks. The special releases are cool but somewhat frustrating too good luck finding it and if it's 275 retail it's gonna be 750 on secondary I cant go there
Old Crow is more complex and harder to appreciate, at a fraction of the price. One must take time with Old Crow and give it a chance to frolic with the senses. No easy vanilla, cherry, Spice, sweets or nuts. Just a badassnrss of layers that rival the most excruciating nebiollos. I call it the Uper Bourbon (like Super Tuscsn). Sick value: nasty quadruple bass- 32nd kick drum notes at 257bpm in triplets. Blast beats using your third arm and a nasty cask of dank fruit that survived a candida infection. Honestly, me and Poseidon chill- drinking this on top of the gates to hell. You don't need Heaven Hill anything. Just trade in your rain coat dor a last hit of MDMA. Sanford and Son was a fantastic show. Better with Old Crow. HH is lame like Martin or Seinfeld. OLD Crow is like F.R.I.E.D.S who TURN on each other and Amber Turd into each other's high thread count bed sheets.
Know that you gotta do it, but it really sucks watching a bottle that you'll never see - unless you pay a freekin ridiculous amount - get reviewed. Especially when it's actually good. To all the bees with an itch out there who got their hands on one only to flip, may the bourbon gods let it slip from your greasy hands onto a concrete floor. Fair and honest as always - keep keeping it real Jason C !
I've tried Bourbons over $100 which I liked but none which I would say were "worth it". In terms of blind in the glass quality, the category generally tops out around $70 in my humble opinion.
I went to a whiskey festival last year and sampled about 15 different bourbons. I tried one from Texas that tasted good but when they told me it cost $150 a bottle I politely walked away. I then tried another that was just as good and when I asked the price they told me $30 which made me smile. This was Cooper's Craft and they were sold out so I picked one up at a local store and am still amazed at the quality for the price.
Agree with you take on “purchase at 275 and immediately sell for 2k”…those people should be punished … so many people would love to open that, however most showed up to flip it🤬🤬🤬
They're plenty of bottles 45 to 75 dollar bottle range that are just as good if not better. I have a wife and 4 kids. Trust me I don't have the money to spend on 100 to 300 dollar bottles. But once a year I spend 100 to 150 on myself for my birthday.
Sounds so delish! I’m a big fan of HH and love the transparency on the label! I wish all distilleries took that approach for us whiskey nerds. But wow those secondary prices hurt my heart. Thanks for the review!
Im currently sipping a 18 year 3 month old George Dickel single barrel. Paid $59.99 and I think its a hitter. So why would I pay $300 or $1300 for a 17 year HH.
I know you mentioned it being HH making their answer to BTAC et al. My only problem there is that BT is still keeping MSRP considerably lower than today’s market would allow them to. When you’re looking at ultra aged whiskey with a $100 MSRP and your response is to release something comparable for 3x the price, what does that mean? Is it truly right to say HH is charging a fair price in that light? (In your opinion)
let's be honest all of the Buffalo Trace msrp's are a joke. it's extremely rare to find a Buffalo Trace antique collection bottle at retail. I think heaven Hill is pricing their stuff more accordingly to today's market rather than Buffalo Trace that under prices and knows that their bottles will be upcharged four to five times the retail price.
A big difference is that BTAC was released long ago, and even raised to 100 they don't make sense in today's market. HH just released this in a crazy time in the bourbon market, fairly priced imo. Look at Michters prices lol.
Again, great review. Love the intro. LOL. Ok, I'll have this on my radar (west coast, good luck I know). I have yet to spend over 175.00 on a good bottle. But there's always the first time. Cheers.
Jason what is your experience with World Whiskey Society Bourbon's. I'm currently in Tennessee and see the new release of the 6yr Cognac Cask finished Bourbon. Its $100...it is sounding very tempting. (Next week I go Bourbon hunting in Bardstown for a couple days. I'm hoping to find Old Forester Barrel proof or Old Carter #5, your top pick)
With yah Jason . I tend to get bored wit BPs that are too chill . I want that kick in the teeth every time . I think a lot of BT products that are BP fall into this category . Nice review cheers brother .
Id love one of these being a big dumb heaven hill shill like i am, but i just know this will be another bottle thats gonna hit shelves and secondary for 1000s. Cest la vie.
Not to second-guess your evaluation, but a $300 retail bottle needs to be almost flawless. If a $300 bottle doesn't blow you away I question the value. Even in this market. The 17+ year mix is impressive, but only if the drink backs it up.
Man, you pull some great bottles, and have some good friends. Definitely good positive stuff for your channel. Would love to find a bottle of this. Fingers crossed... Sounds like it's in a different class compared to EC18
Do you think this is better than Whistle Pig's Boss Hogs? You said you'd pay 250-300 for that as well (for reference). Just a comparison to this "value" game these distilleries are playing.
Yeah I think it's better but the whistle pigs are ryes which makes a big difference. This bourbon is everything a great older bourbon can be without being over oaked
Watched a video the other day on the Heaven Hill 17, he thought it was ok, but the Old Fitz 17 was a better bourbon . You should do a comparison of the two, would be curious what you thought. Have a good weekend!
I wish the people with more money than brains would move on to the next big thing! This whiskey is good but not worth $275 a bottle. Noooooway! George T. Stagg it is not! You guys should check out the exciting world of aged rum!
Nice Jason! I wish I could get my hands on this! Loveeee HH. However, is this worth the premium over BTAC at retail? Not that retail matters these days.
Another great review! Out of curiosity, blend1/3 EC18 and 2/3 ECBP A120 and let me know which is better. I made that blend last night and thought it was magical and found a way to use all my EC18 lol Cheers!
Great review, this will be a tough bottle to get! Curious how would you rate this against RR13 with a similar proof and age range? Was fortunate enough to try some at a bar recently and thought it was fantastic!
That’s hilarious. For 275.00, they can’t even match the type print on the front of the box. How lazy is that? Anyways, I’ll put up my 15yr knob creek against this any day of the week and keep my 225.00
You put this video out about an hour after I won my first lottery and this was the bottle. Must have been fate. Tried a bunch of “high class” bourbons but can’t wait to own one. Great review! I’m sure I’ll think it’s amazing cause I can’t tell the difference once you get to that level. I definitely love a good oaky presence though.
Thanks for a great review, but I doubt I'll be paying even retail. These prices are insane. I paid $70 for Old Forester 1920, and it is a fantastic pour, but that is about my limit.
I recently got this bottle for 300, cracked it with my wife & a good buddy…absolutely love this pour, everything about it. It’s something special IMO!🥃👊🏻
going back to watch some classics... LOLOLOL @ the intro to this one. I forgot about that.
Nice review! I’m working on a trade for this bottle right now, should know in a few days! 😃or😢 will see:)
I like the mellowing out and easy sipper side. This is spot on proof wise.
Local store has it in the window for $1000. Such a bummer. Was thinking of bartering and seeing if he’d let it go for $600 but even that seems high.
$275? I'd pay that without even blinking an eye.....cuz the only store that has it here in So Cal is charging $1k for it.
What bourbon DOES/DID blow u away?
Just saw this in Delaware for 2k.
How can you tell between black cherry, white strawberry and white-fungus covered blackberry?
Well first I just look for a dark fruit. Generally in a bourbon this old those dark fruits generally come out cherry or blackberry to me. It's all subjective but cherry is a bit more medical to me and blackberry is a sweet Jam.

Quality, control, and maturation. All elements you add to your reviews, you deserve that bottle and your enthusiasm is contagious.
Great review! Thanks as always!
I just got a bottle and paid retail $275. Should I open it 👀 ... I'm on the fence now. As a Falcons fan, are you in Atlanta? I'm in Roswell.
I'm not. But grew up following deion. Been a fan ever since
wounds great. hopefully I can find one to try for myself. thanks for review and cheers.
Thanks bro, now I have to try Cherry Garcia. Lol
My local liquor store has a bottle of this I just saw tonight for $300!
Hey Jason! Great review on this! Is there any chance you'll be reviewing the Heaven Hill Select Stock 14yr?
No didn't get a chance to get that one
@@TheMashandDrum dang! I would’ve loved to hear your thoughts on it
Oh yeah! Just talked to store owner , Im shooting for this for sure
Heaven Hill is about to bring in a whole new type of palates. The odd ball contrarians that aren't into Pappy's profile.
Very excited 👌
Whats the most you'd pay for a pour at a bar?
50
Production on your videos keeps getting better and better. Well done!! Love the new intro reel.

I must have missed those 'cinnamon glazed nuts' at the carnival ;) Cheers buddy!
Whaaaa.....meee wanna try, can't believe you scored this one already! Congrats!
Lol loved those first 5 seconds of awe opening the box 😂
Saw this for$1999.99 yesterday in Bardstown at a liquor store. Crazy!
Please tell me you laughed in their face. Seriously…..
@@blakeanderson1214 Nope, just walked out without talking to any of the staff.
question... how much was bottled ? to be ultra rare as they say
Sounds mouth watering!! 🤤
The bottle I’ve been looking for, very nice brotha🇺🇸🙏🏽
Cheers to Heaven Hill 17!🥃🏆
I want this one. As soon as you said “pecan pie” I was in. Great job, Jason.
I’ve seen this and the Thomas Handy but I’m not paying the crazy mark ups.
Bro your B rolls are second to none! Hoping I can find one of these
With the older blends I am not surprised about how tamed the taste is, but man with the notes 📝 that you gave it sounds delicious 😋
Great review. Would love to find a pour somewhere.
Is it better in your opinion better the Wild Turkey 17yr Bottled in Bond as an older bourbon?
it's close. this is more of a black cherry. wild turkey 17 has a medicinal cherry.
Know that you gotta do it, but it really sucks watching a bottle that you'll never see - unless you pay a freekin ridiculous amount - get reviewed. Especially when it's actually good.

how does it compare to the barrell grey or gold? those are sweet hit you in the face aged bourbons that go for $250 to $500 respectively?
the barrells are very dickel forward to me aside from the segrass and dovetail grey labels. i would spend the money in this over those.
The fact that the secondary market for this is already in the thousands is ridiculous.
Already talked to my local store the other day telling them I was looking for this. Hasn't hit them yet but they know I want it now!
In my limited experience all bourbons mellow after the first couple of tastes.
In most cases. But the good ones give you consistency sip after sip.
I've tried Bourbons over $100 which I liked but none which I would say were "worth it". In terms of blind in the glass quality, the category generally tops out around $70 in my humble opinion.
