I'm not even a "country" fan typically, but when this song comes on, even I sing along. It was pretty popular even at college parties just a couple of years ago... in the middle of rap songs, someone would cut this song on, and everyone would sing along to the iconic line... "blame it all on my roots, I showed up in boots."
I was in high school when this came out. Definitely not a fan of most country music, but I know every word this song and I will sing along loudly, whether I can carry a tune or not! 😆
On August 7th, 1997, Garth Brooks held a free concert in Central Park, which is in Manhattan, New York City. He was afraid that "nobody would show up" because country music was obviously more of a rural thing and obviously the center of New York City is not exactly rural. To his surprise, an estimated more than one million people showed up.
I was on vacation in Orlando and I made my cousin mad when I wanted to stay and watch the Garth Brooks concert instead of going out for the night LOL. I still remember the duet with Billy Joel!
Classic...😂😂😂 that’s ridiculous! In a damn preppy club on 6th street in Austin maybe. Go in a real country joint like here in Tennessee, they don’t want that crap playing anywhere. I was in the Army when this was popular. It started the goat ropers trend. Big belt buckles, wranglers, cowboy hat, but not an oz of country in them. The goat ropers are who we used to search for and stomp their guts out their asses. That’s hilarious...classic American Pub music...🤣🤣
Technically i think that is true. Depends on what success means. In the music industry making money can be hard when everyone is ripping your songs off on the internet. That is why artists have to travel and play concerts as that money is for sure. Success could mean just name recognition...
@@davidcooley275 concerts have always been the main money maker for singers, artists make money off of their CDs of course but I think most of the money goes to the record companies themselves. Guys, Garth went into semiretirement to raise his kids around the same time he and his first wife split. During that time, he and his best friend, Trisha Yearwood, who is a fantastic artist in her own right, got together and got married. They've been married 15 years now.
Garth was so huge in the 90's....so huge. Couldn't turn on the radio or the country music channel without him being on every ten minutes. He had an Alter Ego named Chris Gaines who did more rock type music, and 14 year old me ate that up. He had a whole backstory to this new character and it was so weird, but I liked it.
As I remember it, Chris Gaines was supposed to be the lead character in a movie. The album was a greatest hits album to get people interested in the movie. Then the movie didn't happen.
If you want to hear the concert version of this song (which is very good with the 3rd verse) get his CD called Double Live. It's basically his first Greatest Hits album, but this song has the additional verse.
Just to let you know how huge of an artist Garth is. Garth is the first artist in history-in any genre-to receive nine diamond awards for nine albums certified by the RIAA for 10 million album sales each, and he remains the best-selling solo artist in U.S. history certified by the RIAA with over 170 million album sales. He has received every accolade the recording industry can bestow on an artist, including being inducted into the International Songwriters Hall of Fame in New York, the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, Country Music Hall of Fame and the Musicians Hall of Fame. In 2016, he won the CMA Entertainer of the Year award for a record fifth time.
And he's an Okie! 😅💪 I got to meet him when I was in the 4th grade. His daughters basketball team played my little sister's team at our elementary school gym.
Glad to meet a fellow Okie (Tulsa here). Garth is an Oklahoma treasure. Even though I have worked in Owasso I never got lucky enough to meet him. Lots of stories of people who have and I am jealous of everyone of you. Lol

In true middle school fashion, it was always a tradition at my school for the older 8th graders to dedicate this song to the younger 7th graders at school dances.
Sux that Garth pulls his music from UA-cam but his music is amazing! My rockin’ favorites from Garth are That Summer; Standing Outside the Fire; Ain’t Goin’ Down (‘Til the Sun Comes Up); Callin’ Baton Rouge; Rodeo; and Two of a Kind, Workin’ on a Full House. My emotional favorites of his are If Tomorrow Never Comes; Unanswered Prayers; Wolves; What She’s Doing Now; The River; Learning to Live Again; That Ol’ Wind; Somewhere Other Than The Night; Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old); The Dance; She’s Every Woman; and In Lonesome Dove. But his most powerful songs are Mom; The Thunder Rolls; The Night I Called The Old Man Out; We Shall Be Free; and The Change.

To appreciate Garth Brooks watch his LIVE concerts, he is a master at getting the crowd involved in the music! Other great tunes by Garth is as follows: If Tomorrow Never Comes, Unanswered Prayers, and The Dance. He stopped performing for a while so he could be with his three daughters as they grew up, a wise decision.
Garth Brooks has 3 daughters with his first wife and was touring all the time, so at a certain point he stopped touring and just laid low until they were old enough or maybe even 18 and then he started touring again.

Garth Brooks came back after many years on top. He's awesome.
Thank you so much I sincerely hope you never stop listening to my music 🎶❤️
One of the biggest selling artists of all time. Definitely the best selling country artist.
In true middle school fashion, it was always a tradition at my school for the older 8th graders to dedicate this song to the younger 7th graders at school dances.
I just sang this at karaoke last Friday, I was terrible but it was very fun.
This is every small town pubs drinking sing along song here in America.
Pretty much!!! Add "Come on Eileen!" and "Don't Stop Believin!" to that one and you've got the Holy Trinity of pub songs.
You really need to see the video Garth brooks in Dallas “ Aint Goin’ Down Til The Sun Comes Up”. Awesome!
He's a great artist. And a his guy.
He just drew 90,000 to his concert in Lincoln, Nebraska.
It blows my mind that anyone in the world hasn't heard this song or at least heard of Garth Brooks.
Garth sang at Biden's inauguration, so, yeah, he's still around lol
Garth Brooks also sang at the inaugurations of Bush1, Clinton, Bush 2 and Obama.
Dave’s quips “prolapse” haha...Mike isn’t even picking up on it 😂
Garth Brooks is the biggest selling solo artist of all time in America. Not country artist, best selling artist period, just behind The Beatles. He is also the only artist in music history to have released nine albums that achieved diamond status in the United States (10 million copies).
He's the GOAT!!
It is a proper country tune as you so eloquently state! I’m not a country lover at all but this is one of my favorite songs and it’s certainly a party anthem. And of course we love Kelly Clarkson because she’s cute as shit!
Garth brooks was on the same level as Michael Jackson in the 90’s
If you’re listening to Garth Brooks, you have to listen to Papa Loved Mama. Its fantastic.
I love when you react to music!
Garth Brooks is the #1 selling artist of all time.
One the best drinking songs no doubt
Two of a kind (working on a full house) by garth brooks
Garth Brooks is soooooooooo big that he said he wouldn't put his music on streaming services because he doesn't need the money
Pure country voice
To appreciate Garth Brooks watch his LIVE concerts, he is a master at getting the crowd involved in the music! Other great tunes by Garth is as follows: If Tomorrow Never Comes, Unanswered Prayers, and The Dance. He stopped performing for a while so he could be with his three daughters as they grew up, a wise decision.
I grew up listening to Garth Brooks
Garth was KING in the 90’s!
Garth is the GOAT
Garth Brooks has 3 daughters with his first wife and was touring all the time, so at a certain point he stopped touring and just laid low until they were old enough or maybe even 18 and then he started touring again.
he from my home town he was a huge deal here in the 80s
