Love this song and this performance. Found this video years ago and keep coming back to it. Saw The Slip play more than once back in the day in Burlington, Vermont, and maybe in Boulder once? Thank you for this gift.
Thread tied to guitar string, drawing clasped finger and thumb down the thread makes it vibrate, which passes that on to the guitar string, modulating the sound a bit depending on distance from string. Makes for a sustained, low level stimulation.
I know cos I saw them last night and they handed me a thread to stroke. Mazing.
Seen these guys open up for Blind Pilot in Woodstock on 2/14/12. One of the best shows i've ever seen! They are amazing live, absolutely beautiful!

Harmoniums and pump organs...those are basically synonyms. However this isn't a suitcase harmonium for a suitcase harmonium would render you only to be playing the keys with one hand as the other would be pumping the bellows.

hes got a string looped around a few strings and pulls them to make them vibrate
+henry zucco Like u/renee lilley said, it is a string looped onto his guitar strings for a standing vibrato?/vibrating sound. In this visit or a later one he explains to cheryl that he picked this up from an old violinist
