- Welcome to Vlogmas 2023 ⭐️🎄🎅 🐴
This year the Footluce festivities are back, and I have plenty of treats in store for you! Stay tuned to watch myself, the horses and a few extra special guests (... people AND ponies 👀) for a new vlog every Monday and Thursday.
This vlog is sponsored by GLAZE & GORDON. Both myself and Lauren are very lucky to be supported by this wonderful brand.

The competition is now LIVE over on my Instagram, you have 4 days to enter... good luck! 🍀
This reminds me so much of the quip that Ginger Rogers did everything that Fred Astaire did but backwards and in heels. It is astounding that women hunted competitively with such a position.
My first year in Pony Club (Australia), 50yrs ago, I went to watch the Eventing State Championships and saw 2 riders competing in sidesaddle at the top level. They both rode that way because they had back issues. There were no Para events back then, everyone just got on with it the best they could. It was memorable because I had never seen anyone jump sidesaddle let alone win a competition at Championship level which one of them did.
Do you remember where the event was or who the riders were? As one of only 3 qualified side saddle instructors in Australia and one of very few riders and the only one doing side saddle within pony club, I’d love more history on this and the riders!
You look stunning and Lauren I am sure does too when she is in the habit-love the color is beautiful for both.
I love seeing people trying this form of riding out. I did it over 20 years ago and absolutely loved it. I really lost my confidence astride and side saddle helped me get it back. I would jump anything and felt so safe, whereas i would barely jump a tiny cross pole astride. If I were ever to go back to riding it would be through side saddle!
Fab 👏 you looked very elegant in the habit. Hope you didn't ache too much. I have done a little side saddle on my friend Penny Clarke's clinics. You must do it again 👍 to think all the ladies rode in the hunting fields side saddle back in the day . Just amazing. Well done Lucy 💜
I agree with Lauren - need to get a side saddle on Laragh! I’ve been following Lauren for a while so nice to see you get together and spread the side-saddle love!
Great fun. You really did look very elegant and Barry is superb. Lovely vlog.
Lucy, you could make riding a donkey look elegant! Regular season 1 Downton Abbey!
Wow so elegant! I love the idea of it but don’t think my balance would be up to it. Barry and Lauren were very good teachers. Great outfit too!
How exciting! I used to mess around when I was younger riding sidesaddle but I didn't have the luxury of a side saddle 😊
Lucy, you looked absolutely fabulous!!!!! You could have been in Flambards or Downton Abbey. Would have loved to see a top hat with a veil. Hubby & I thoroughly enjoyed watching this. You were brilliant. P.S. have never ridden sidesaddle but I know it is not easy. Good for you!!!!!!!!
From the time you first sat sidesaddle, I could see you in the vintage Habit. I was so excited to see how amazing you looked. You did so well, and this was really fun. Thanks!
What a marvellous experience, I have always wanted too have a go. Alas I am too old now, but I have enjoyed watching you looking very much the part..
You looked great! And made that look easy😮I’m sure it was not. 👍 Lauren is super impressive 😊
Well done for having a go at another discipline, you did really well, and it was interesting to hear some facts about the sidesaddle and how it fits 🎉xx
SO elegant Lucy, and very interesting vlog.
Have ridden sidesaddle twice, for historical set ups, and really needed a Lauren to advise! Luckily only walked and trotted, but remember always wanting to get my right leg back over! 😄.
Watching her jump is wild 🎉 10:25
You look amazing and how wonderful to see you ride and how the side-saddle costume is assembled. Well done- I’ve so enjoyed your video. thank you.
You are super elegant riding side saddle! Well done. x
Lovely vlog Lucy. Informative, interesting, elegant, fun. Excellent choice of music fills. Best utilitarian fashion display ever. Starring Lauren, Barry, Lucy and your anonymous cameraman. And all wrapped up in finest King's English - Taraaah!
Oh I want to try this so bad! You looked very elegant!!!
Really enjoy today's blog, something totally different. Thought you did great.
Lauren is a beautiful SS rider!! Lucy n Barry. Good job
This was so interesting! I use the whip the same way in driving. I can't use my legs at all so the whip is not so much a "go stick" as it is a leg aid and the horses learn to respond to it as such. You did a great job your first time side saddle! I don't think I would have been able to stay on at the trot, let alone the canter!!
Very smart, and very elegant dismounts 😂 it definitely suits you, maybe something you'll do more of 🤔 Great video, well done!
Awww Lucy you definitely looked the part, very pretty. And wow what a great event to do, so much history involved, thank u for taking us along
you looked amazing, well done!
Loved your blog today Lucy!!
Loved this vlog, Lucy. Have always been curious about trying side saddle (not so sure if I can pull it off though 😅). Lauren was such a good teacher and interesting to hear her explain everything, and how cute was Barry 😍
Loved this, such fun, and that smile said it all. Laurens details please, or how to find them, thank you ❤
You looked wonderful Lucy!!
Hunting side saddle next? 😁😁
Brilliant video - the mysteries of riding side saddle explained!
What a good looking rider 😊
Soooo Smart!! Love it 💝
I love my Owen! I prefer the flat seat. I’m my CW I always felt like I sitting up hill
You look smart, but to someone who grew up with cow horses working cattle--cutting horses, roping horses--chasing cattle through brush--it seems very complicated and not typically practical for the kind of riding most people do. I could, however, be entirely wrong. But at my age, I'm fine on regular saddles (western, dressage, jumping, all-purpose, but that one is, I'm afraid, a bridge too far. My balance isn't what it was 50-60 years ago. I want a leg on each side.
Ladies used to hunt side-saddle - it’s not as impractical as it seems! I rode side-saddle myself a few times and you feel much more centred than you look.
Side saddle is a very old historic type of riding from the past, It was thought crude for a woman to ride astride! This is how they dressed ❤
@@daniwatkins8439 it really isn’t - it’s no worse than riding astride (and I’m sure Lauren wouldn’t be promoting something that was damaging her horse’s back). You are still centred with your spine over the horse’s spine, with your weight spread across the panels. A properly fitted side-saddle should not hurt the horse at all. As a rider, I found my right hip was a bit sore the first couple of times from the new position but your back shouldn’t be, as it should still be straight and centred.
I'd rather ride side saddle than western. One is historical and beautiful. The other is yeehaw rough and tumble with less care for the animals
Agreed lol
Very elegant. Its always something ive fancied trying
Awww u looked fab ❤ infect u suited sidesaddle Lucy 🎉😊 … o natural 🤗,,, ur new year revaluation has just begun ❤ 👌🤗🤗 🎉
Oh Lucy you looked so elegant hope you do some more
Well you looked very elegant Lucy well done side saddle looks hard to do but I guess once you get the hang of it I’m sure it’s quite comfortable. Did you prefer the canter or the trot? I think canter. This was a lovely vlogmas.tfs 😎🏇😎
Stunning
Excited!! Love your vlogs !!! ❤❤ i hope you have a lovely Christmas when it comes Lucy 💖
Well done Lucy you look so elegant and beautifullllll🤍
Well done Lucy you looked amazing ❤ Barry is gorgeous and such a good boy ❤❤
You looked smart and elegant.
Love this!
This was hella fun to watch ❤️
Great. And it would be lovely if you had another microphone.
Hi I addmeryou for tying something now, YOU do look amazing on him .👍👍
you look smart! xx
SO FUN! You need a mic!
Wish you'd worn the bowler! The 'hat' didn't really 'go' with the outfit. Well done, you for trying something brand new!
How r these horses kept in condition? Does this not create asymmetries if they’re ridden exclusively in side saddle? Long lining in between rides?
WOW. Does riding this way hurt the horses spine? I'd love to see the rider dressed in outfit of the time. Regardless I'd be scared. How comfortable is it for the lady to ride? Gallop etc. Love it so long as it doesn't hurt the horse .
What happens to the right side of the female? Maybe left side as one side seems to used more than the other. 😮
Why would you jump with a side saddle? 🙈
Wonderful. I’ve always wanted to try this!🥰
You did look very elegant in the habit, that is for sure. Riding side saddle? I'd feel too unbalanced and I don't think I'd want to try it. Good for you though for having a go!
loved this vlog luce. great seeing you try sidesaddle and to find out you can have lessons with lk eventing...
you looked amazing and it was a joy to watch.
Such a cool experience! You did very well Lucy, i`m impressed! And Lauren is a great teacher
Lucy this has to be one of my favourite videos of yours! This was such a fun video & really inspirational, time to book some side saddle lessons 😂
Not everyone can have lessons on Barry as you and your mum won’t let me ride him. I have no idea why.
Trot looks sooo uncomfortable for both horse AND rider 😬
Really interesting, thanks!
Very Downtown Abbey 🙂🎄🎄🎄
That Looks Soo Great !!!
Very smart indeed ❤
Yes, looking very elegant but....let's just ask....why?
Why not?
You were born for side saddle, you looked so selegant, loved the video x
Very entertaining so elegant well done xx
