Greed ignites your sin Black seed burns in a bed of lies Destroy and annihilate our world Tearing grace from purity to survive Helpless life doused in a flash Plunge the knife, burning to ashes They plead, they don’t know why they’re on show Hell holds a place for all of us Watching my friends bleed I break down, I concede In life, I knew paradise and freedom With those now unknown to me I will fly Helpless life doused in a flash Plunge the knife, burning to ashes They plead, they don’t know why they’re on show Mercy betrayed, floods cannot wash away All of the pain rushes in Beauty deceased, instinct takes over Bygone are the days, darkness reigns Hell holds a place for all of us Life, endless paradise Beauty painted by sin Hell on Earth breeding ignorance They door opens for us Greed ignites pain inflames the weak but we remain bygone Marching on, they watch as their kind suffer and die before them Is this no some kind of genocide? Breaking, crushing, defiling We live as lords of the Earth We bear powers of mercy yet we choose Life, endless paradise Beauty painted by sin Hell on Earth breeding ignorance They door opens for us Life, endless paradise Beauty destroyed by sin Hell on Earth breeding ignorance They door opens for us Open the door Open the door
06:08 Those vocals are just incredible as fuck and reminds me many nostalgic memories that I can't even describe properly. I do listen to whole EP just for that vocal lines.
Coming back now, last night this song threw me into some crazy nostalgia of high school in 2016-2017, on the bus ride home stressed as hell, and the intro just overtook me and kicked me out of reality. I may be biased, but even with Fauna, which absolutely BOPS and takes second place for haken albums for me, restoration is still first. Restoration is such an incredible EP
This song feels like it is going to erupt but it remains subdued all the way through... Feels like many emotions press the boundaries and try to erupt but the mind just keeps it restrained...
Listen to King Crimson's The Court Of The Crimson King at 2.53 and compare it to this song at 3:07 Not that it's not obvious that all prog bands have heard King Crimson but they pretty much just lifted the melody
My guess is it's about human greed motivating us to do horrendous things to the planet because we choose greed as 'lords of the earth' with 'powers of mercy'. We don't stand up to care for nature and have mercy, instead breaking, crushing, defiling, plunging with knives, and burning the flesh of trillions of animals each year (way more than the number of humans ever to have lived). It's called 'Earthlings', which may refer to the documentary of the same name about animal suffering. As far as black seed goes, it's a seed thought to be a cureall for ages, since the time of the Egyptians at least. So whether the 'cure-all' being referred to as burning in a bed of lies here is nature or a believing in a god...who knows?
Earthlings is a film which details all of the ways which humans exploit animals. My guess is that it’s inspired by that film and the horrific ways that we treat our fellow earthlings... 💔
This is soooo good! probably my favourite track from the EP has a Tool / Cynic feel. Crystallised would have been but they went abit mental from 9:15 onwards. Trying to be abit too prog for their own good.
Cynical feel is strong with this one, though present in the other two tracks. The sounds on Crystallised completely embody the title, what with the overlapping vocals shooting in all directions and the evolving instrumental, moving from a bygone time to a digital sound, it's fawkin incredible, tie it back to the bridge and chorus, ending, cut, print, banger.
"A bit too prog for their own good" I don't know if you've heard any of the other albums, but they get crazy like that all the time. So that's less trying to be too prog, and more their style of music.
I know, and my opinion is when they go in that direction it doesnt make the song better, It's almost like they feel the need to add some "crazy prog" part into some songs. But each to their own.
Sebastian Bustos-Smith I think Haken often does venture down the "too prog for their own good path" in many of their earlier songs, but I also think they hit the mark perfectly with songs like Darkest Light and In Memoriam, and managed to work it well into many of the other longer "The Mountain" tracks. I mean then again, like you said, that's just their style.
What's funny is I'd never heard of "Cynic", I mistook the word for Cynical, then people mistook my Cynical word for Cynic. We people are fuckin amazing.
Greed ignites your sin
Black seed burns in a bed of lies
Destroy and annihilate our world
Tearing grace from purity to survive
Helpless life doused in a flash
Plunge the knife, burning to ashes
They plead, they don’t know why they’re on show
Hell holds a place for all of us
Watching my friends bleed
I break down, I concede
In life, I knew paradise and freedom
With those now unknown to me I will fly
Helpless life doused in a flash
Plunge the knife, burning to ashes
They plead, they don’t know why they’re on show
Mercy betrayed, floods cannot wash away
All of the pain rushes in
Beauty deceased, instinct takes over
Bygone are the days, darkness reigns
Hell holds a place for all of us
Life, endless paradise
Beauty painted by sin
Hell on Earth breeding ignorance
They door opens for us
Greed ignites pain inflames the weak but we remain bygone
Marching on, they watch as their kind suffer and die before them
Is this no some kind of genocide?
Breaking, crushing, defiling
We live as lords of the Earth
We bear powers of mercy yet we choose
Life, endless paradise
Beauty painted by sin
Hell on Earth breeding ignorance
They door opens for us
Life, endless paradise
Beauty destroyed by sin
Hell on Earth breeding ignorance
They door opens for us
Open the door
Open the door
I can't get enough of this song.

So eerie, yet with a hint of hopefulness but yet again with some amount of despair. The feeling of finality is defined in this song. Truly well done.

I get just an weird and strange feeling when listening to the beginning
Words so heavy.
I love the way he sings the last few verses. Awesome stuff. Thanks for uploading. =)
Haunting....
I get definite Steven Wilson vibes from the very beginning (Insurgentes, GFD, perhaps?). Never heard of Cynic so thanks for the heads up!
Nope. King's X.
King's X anyone?? Uh, YEAH.
This reminds me a lot of Cynic. Pretty good
05:44 .... that sound reminds me of EST ......... sooooooo heavy

this is so re-traced of cynic... just awesome
Good Tool influences, sounds like Wings for Marie... Haken's saddest song.
Wings for Marie (Espec the hidden track version if that counts) is my favorite song
Haken is my favorite band
So I would say you have a point
Right in Two..
I think Sun is contesting the Saddest Haken Song podio
As Death Embraces. At least for me.
Deathless for me
The last chorus is SOAD af
Does anyone know what the song is about? The lyrics are interesting.

@@WildernessLau i second that.
after seeing the movie, this song represents it well.

güzel ama çok uzun be
Sıradaki şarkı sana gelsin o zaman
Cynic feel? I respect and love Haken, but it's not level of Cynic. But yeah, I hear something similiar.
+Leonid Isachenko enjoy the music and stop comparing...
