We missed you. Glad you’re back in the good ole USA
This guy doesn't stop for stop signs!
"Don't do as I say, do as I do" as he drives through stop signs! 😂
They are optional in NY
Stop signs are an insult to our intelligence when their no other vehicles around
Daniel did a great job with his videos keeping us entertained
Props for leading by example. Props for training your employees and giving them what they need to do the best job possible and rewarding them. Also for trusting them to keep the shop running when you are away.
If you’re Not Testing , you’re Guessing. Thanks for Working on Labor Day because for some, the Heat can be Deadly. Keep Helping to Make the Trades Great. 👍🙏
Welcome back Mr. Mikey Pipes from your well deserved European trip and start learning Spanish for your trip to Spain.
I am glad you picked up the old capacitor, because a professional never leaves trash on job site and leads by example. I wonder if using a bracelet and a ring is recommended while working around electricity to prevent safety concerns, but I guess is "ok according to the Italians (everything is ok).
So glad to see you back, because your videos are excellent.
You knew I wasn’t gonna leave trash behind
Mikey is back!!! Hope you had a great time off. Glad your back
Good job Mike. Keep up the good work. Welcome back.
Mikey you're running the stop signs in your video. Welcome back, you're not driving in Italy now.
My bad
I did restoration in Hewlett Harbour during the Sandy aftermath so I know this neighborhood very well. Loved your tour of one of most expensive communities to live on LI other than the Gold coast on the north shore
I love how it’s always safety first until you can’t. I’ll pull the disconnect out with my left hand behind my back until it won’t come out. Then I’m going in with both hands and yanking. We all do it though it’s just funny.
I look at my Mikey pipes sticker on my work van everyway. To remind me to test 😂
Budump bump😂😅😂😂 you're the man!
Welcome back,i've been to catania,beautiful
Good Job Mike on to the next one!!!!
Job well done mikey well done
Welcome back from my home country. Hope you enjoyed
Holiday call and a disconnect buried in stucco. Grrrr! Good man Michael you took it in stride. I like the Square D disconnect far better that the previous one. 👍🏻 Sure a pretty area to work in.
The GOAT is back
That looks like something you'd run into on Labor Day because you got to labor😊
Welcome back Mikey, you were missed! Those stucco dudes need to be wacked 🤬🤬🤬
I'll wait as long as it takes till Pipe Doctor finally sets up shop in Las Vegas to get my 3 systems replaced with Bosch Inverter splits.
Glad your ok that could've been bad.
Nice job getting them cooling on a hot labor day holiday. The same thing happened at my own home last summer. The electrician put the aluminum wire goop (Noalox) on one connection but not the other. The one without the goop corroded, overheated, and melted my disconnect.
First time Mickey you make it painless, good show in the ATL.
Thank you very much for your feedback and support
I’m happy you and wife an amazing vacation and went to an what I bet was amazing wedding
I love New York - My home town. great Video
She was running backwards Mike. That one was a bit of a bugger. Welcome home brother.👍👍🇨🇦
I love a good job site souvenir. We used to have a shelf at my old shop that would contain different souvenirs from service calls. We had about 10-15 rat skulls sticks to caps and contractors. Even stuck to wires….
Peter's a great kid, but i could see from the beginning that he didnt have the same aptitude or interest as his brother. If he's happy just schlepping, then that's fine.
Drill flip! Donahue gonna love you guys in Florida
haha!
They are lucky that they did not have a fire
I just replaced that same style but fused. Plastic components brittle, stuck and broken in several areas. Same burnt wire and melted area as that one.
Crazy stuff
muy fuerte = very strong!
My assumption without watching the video yet, is that there was some corrosion in that contact with the salt in the air. This has caused high resistance in that connection where it then caused the current draw to increase at that point. It very likely could have caused all sort if issues as the voltage drop due to that could be high as well. 👍🤠 After watching the video I would say that was what was going on there. Some salt or sand/dirt got in the contact and cause a large voltage drop.
7:26 just love when a wire solders itself, trying to help out…… 😳 NOT🫣
I seen that same thing the whole disconnect melted down. I liked Electrician handle it. I could’ve done it but not my scope of work.
Welcome back glad you had a great time could of burned down the house
You and me both!
Holy stucco, what a flipping shit show momma. Glad you had a good vacation and its nice to see you back in the states again.
Did ya talk to the guy that did the thing over there at the place in Sicily. 😂😂😂
good to see you back, looks you like you ate "liberally" over at Sicily ?? lol
Great job, I am sure they paid a small fortune for that stucco job an they could have pulled the boxes and remounted them correctly for a few more dollars, yes Peter is a assist to your company I am glad that you are giving him time to complete his learning and not forcing him out on his own already. Possibly Peter would further his knowledge by doing some online theory courses in heating and HVAC. I find my self that if I have a knowledge of the theory it make it easier to understand the subject.
@UCAgohkPb_JoWjCXslWLtrag Peter is in Daniel's shadow, I noticed that dynamic on the DC channel videos. He's still at the apprentice level, and I agree with the comment that he fears making mistakes rather than shirking work or failing to learn. He needs an environment where he can achieve incremental successes to build his confidence. Eventually he'll be a really good tech.
Looks good. Sometimes you gotta do things a little off to make it work but being honest with the stucco built up like that it was going to be hard to make it look good without the same style disconnect. Been watching a lot of video's like this since I am fixing up a 100+ year old house. Already replaced a ton of stuff including the water supply lines, electrical panel and shutoff along with most of the wiring and stuck insulation into the walls since there was zero insulation when we moved in. Still have to finish the insulation upstairs but right now the upstairs is gutted so I can install that stuff and then some. Eventually will be putting in multiple mini-splits for HVAC which works out pretty well when working with a tight budget as I can buy one here and there and install when I have them. It's been a ride for sure but a ton of the video's on UA-cam have helped.
I also see you are doing some fundraising to help low income people. That gets a HUGE thumbs up from me for sure. I am just getting started myself but I want to teach people who have had traumatic experiences, especially those who are low income, how to dive for free. February 28th of 2019 my wife of 10 years passed away and I ended up in a dive shop a few months later pretty much lost. I had been through a ton of other stuff as well and that was basically the straw that broke the camels back. Learning to dive and being under water helps me feel a lot better about things and I want to share that with other people as well plus I can take the time to go out and clean trash up out of lakes and rivers with my students and start them on a path of doing good things. If I can use UA-cam as an income source for the venture I can potentially pay for their training fees and provide those students with some basic gear so that once they are certified they can go out and clean up trash on their own as well, basically build an army of people who want to make the world a little bit better of a place.
@@PipeDoctor Thank you. Losing her was one of the toughest things I have ever went through and I can't say I am the same as what I was before but I made it through to the other side to get to a better state of mind again. I credit a lot of that to learning how to dive and being in the water which is why I want to spread that for others out there.
IMHO your vision/goal is very admirable and I can only hope that it grows and grows. Where I currently live there are a lot of people who can't afford to have someone come in and do work. To be honest I am in that boat as well but have the skills to be able to handle it myself. There are people out there without the skills and without the funding to cover having their homes in good working order and EVERYONE deserves to have a home where things work and they can feel safe and comfortable.
We all love Peter. It certainly appears, from our limited time with your gang, that he is not getting it. I hope you find a way to keep him around. You have a lot at stake and need quality help. Best of luck Mike
Peter is a good quality tech, he just needs time! learning is a process, cant rush it!
@@PipeDoctor perhaps find a way to drive confidence into Peter.. I think hes getting it... I think hes more worried about making a mistake. IDK, Thats just what I see. I'm no boss but I also find myself not taking initiative and its soley from lack of confidence/overwhelming situation. Maybe he has ADHD or something. Maybe he needs to find himself a step my step procedure for diagnostics. Either way I'd love to hear your thoughts on this Mike
almost nailed it is second place, pretty damn good in my book
Great call ... The quality of products todayGood fix and welcome home
I hope you're not letting Peter go. Keep him as a helper he will pick it up some people just takes a little longer. Seems to be a really nice kid if he can be like Daniel you will be golden
Okay great thought you were going to give him the ax.
@UCAgohkPb_JoWjCXslWLtrag One more comment: my work is not HVAC but we have the same labor model - bring in young folks and train them up. I tell them they are not economically productive for the shop until I can put the truck keys in their hands and say "have a good day" without needing to send another employee out with them. Some take a couple months, some take much, much longer. Typically if they haven't hit productivty in 6-9 months, we let them go unless we have work where a helper or grade 2 employee is an invoice line item.
👍
That's why they call it LABOR Day!
Do you think the hard start was still needed?
Did you test without it?
Great work Mikey Pipes ❤
That crazy
Yup. Sure is
I'm an HVAC technician in New Jersey and you're correct, that's retarded how they put stucco over the disconnect boxes.
like WHY!!!!!!
That leg was pulling a hell of a load
It is amazing that such issues occur with a disconnect panel or other components such as switches, and the feed breaker does not trip. This is a very educational video for the weekend, You Tube technicians, that believe all skilled service contractors are crooks, and do all their maintenance. If this unit had a spring commission or maintenance by a skilled tech like the MSN featured in this video. Very possible, they would have been able to spot this pending issue before it reached this level.
Totally agree
That’s crazy what an awesome job with a Box. And for the love of me living in New York City, I can’t see why anybody would spend $30 million in a home only pay off the Yangyang. In property taxes.
No anti oxidizing paste on alumunum wires and all terminals not torqued and checked for good connections. I know that you had to adapt the old box to mount the newone because of stucco job. Old box needs calked all around openings because it is no longer listed for damp and wet locations because of modifications.
Thanks for the tips!
Manual labor on Labor Day.
Seen a few melted disconnect but never that bad
This one took the cake 🎂
High resistance and high current leads to high temperatures and low voltage to the load.
That was pretty close to a house fire.
Yes the power grid is getting old, But like you said Mcmansions everywhere... LILCO provided more than enough current service for modest houses( which one covered 99% of Long Island) Now its overcrowded, and people are blowing these places up to the size where they need commercial level HVAC. But def good for HVAC business!
Absolutely
Cant you use your fluke app to see the voltage reading when you turn off power to a electric breaker?
Nice n cool in fl
Was 88 couple of days
Loose connections will cause that, they were probably never torqued down properly in the first place.🤔
good job for shtf field repair just hope you used connecters and bushings running cables thru the k/o you made?
Yes I did
Good job Mike, The wire seemed to be aluminum and that type of wire over heats, it might have needed no-ox because of it. But glad your back.
I bet those other service disconnects have the same thing going on behind them.
Nope. They don’t
how many stop signs do mickey blow thru ???
Dude! You just ran four stop signs.
LOOKS LIKE LIGHTING HIT IT
Just FYI. The Fluke is a great meter but you need one with an inrush button. Inrush is an extremely fast jump and is not accurately captured by a meter with a min max button. The Fluke 376 for example does have an inrush button
Thanks for sharing
shake the capacitor like a polaroid picture!
its 100 and up everyday with 100% humidity where i live in southeast texas. pray for us lol
thoughts and prayers!
Stop signs mean STOP
nah ah it means Slightly tap on pedal yah queer
Plus he's holding his phone while driving. 😂
@@PipeDoctor Pipe Doctor? Is that what your wife calls her boyfriend? 😂😭👌
I guess in NY you don’t need to stop at stop signs.
Nope. They are optional.
Looks Like Taj Mahal needs their own Electric Substation. Life Sucks and then you Die. 😬👍
Its 87 here 😅
Stuco seals the structure so well that moisture can't escape and the house rots from within. Vents hole are essential. After a time the stuco will be the only thing supporting the structure! Just like Powder Coating for steel. Seals so well that one little penetration will cause the steel to oxidize away.
Someday's every hour! You attempting to remove that disconnect was awesome
I was determined to make it happen
Did you check out some of those gorgeous Italian females ?? ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
they are renting from the government lol
Sad is it not
Lol 😂
We have one that’s one reason why we do not use those type of disconnects we use breaker disconnects or break on each side you never use those because you can have a bigger breaker on the other side.
Thanks for sharing g
Looooo
Khotba 😅(خطبة)
We use this word also
That fan started spinning the wrong way, you see that ?
Wish you were Chicagoland area I would work for you , 16 yrs experience
Like your hat...........
happy L day 🤟
You need a electrician for this one. Got stuck by lightning?
Man if you was around North Carolina, I would love to work for you. But New York is yuck
We have an office in South Carolina
I hate those units that have the contactor break 1 line (2 if 3 phase). You get a ground fault and things cook. IMHO if you replace a contactor, add one with all poles.
👍
She be not cooked she be Kentucky fried chicken !!! I cuss the Midwest boxes with safety fuse disconnect.. but they stop the meltdown but it’s also another point to have to check for power but it saves countless trips in the basements to connect an dis connect… I actually prefer the breaker dis connect over the fuse ones…..but a fan locked will definitely cause an over heating like that.. on them spade disconnects?? I have seen the incoming supply line cook back in the wall. That’s why I hate the spade disconnect boxes!! But their cheap to buy an install….. lol at 3:30? Yea that break peddle was slippery 😂😂😂 lol I just had to give you a hard time first day back to work… up here in Michigan?? we call them California stops ❤❤ but dammmmm she be a hot one here today heat index say above 90’s … welcome back !!!!
12:57 Made me subscribe
Aluminum wire from the house… probably a 70s house. We’re the connections oxidized/loose in the disco?
No they weren’t
nice, loose lugs or the plug wasn't inserted fully or worn from use.
Maybe but didn’t look like it
Also…. Replace the guts and leave the disconnect… find the same brand and swap out the internals
Didn’t have that option on Labor Day.
Mike does that disconnect also serve as a breaker? I have a similar one and the switch says 60amps
No. It’s just a switch. Not rated for load
What are you looking for when you check amperage?
Anything out of the ordinary. Typical numbers for a 5 ton system
I wold say it’s more likely the aluminum wire not an insulated pull box that’s causing resistance due to galvanic action
Doubt it but Maybe
I wanted to know if you took the hard start off ?
No
What is replaceable same disconnected still on the market today you wouldn't have to mess with housing in damaging the stucco just saying as far as the reason it burns up parts I went along somehow line or load side we're loose
Oh yeah? You do this on a Monday holiday. Go right ahead. I might even give you a reach around. Free
Next time leave the old disconnect box in place use as a junction box to extend the high voltage wires and install the new disconnect next to it I’ve done this in the past
I flipped it. All good. Good for thought
ive never been a big fan of those push in disconnects but the good ones with the throw handle cost more. lol
also look into getting a brick of outdoor duct seal its like electricians plumbers putty seals around holes and gaps some is fire rated too
and a shout out to electrician ron for azek outdoor plywood plastic sheeting ua-cam.com/video/jaEV962r-LI/v-deo.html
keep some of both on hand if you can ever find room lol
You are right, there is nothing great about NY. I suggest Florida.
Did you you give Momma Pipes some good sausage out there?
