Hey Bruce, when I was about 10 yrs old they straightened the road in front of our house. The hill, which was quite large, became the source of the crushed stone for the road base. A crushing plant was set up and the work began. They were using a D9 Cat for removing the overburden and then assisting the crushing operation. Every morning is hear the pony motor start up and then the big diesel. I'd sit on the edge to the hill side and watch the progress. One day the D9 operator stopped the machine and waved me over. He helped me up on the dozer and we made a couple passes moving material. 63 years later I still remember that experience well. Thanks for the great videos 😊
There's a channel on here where a contractor in the US does all his own maintenance of the various Cats he operates.(jaypaydirt) There's a vid of him driving his dads D9 when he was 12, actually working and not just playing around.
What a trooper. You're still in recovery but find the energy to go and help others. At least it was well worthwhile. Recovering three tractor rigs in one mission. All in all that must have been a full day's work. A very successful mission Bruce and being the gentleman you really are, you found the time to thank the cameraman and the farmers you were recovering for helping you. Let's face it it's not a situation where you could phone a recovery company to save the day. Don't know if you like a beer but you deserve freebies for life after this mission.
Hello Bruce and the cameraman great work on getting those tractors out of the wet area the bulldozer did the the job easily track's are much better on wet areas great work fella's and yes it will be awesome to see you get the grader started and running enjoyed watching thanks for sharing Bruce blessings to everyone
Gday Bruce, the dozer is definitely coming in handy and goes to show that old machines still have the place, I wouldn’t mind seeing the grader come back to life to, great episode mate, cheers
Bruce, growing up here in Texas we had two Fiat Allis dozers, a 16B and an 11B. They were good machines and moved a Lot of dirt. I had to come back and edit this comment because it posted 20B instead of 16B. While I'm editing I'll add to my coment.. The 16B we bought out of Alaska thru an auction. When the dozer showed up, it had a complete brand new undercarriage under it including new rails and swamp pads. Apparently the auction company had a machinery service in Alaska install all the new workings and the machinery company installed it on the WRONG machine but it had already came all the way from Alaska to Texas..and we only paid $25,000 for the dozer at auction. The whole undercarriage was a bonus! I don't even think the auction fee paid for that mistake.
Only in America mate, we here in Australia only dream about deals like you guys can achieve, here we pay more then that and still only get a worn out pile of junk for our money.
Great effort by all concerned, have been watching Diesel Creek who I suspect would love to see what you are up to, will continue to watch for your output.
Your a gem Bruce . Safety wasnt even a word when i did my time on tractors. Now i think of it all the time. It's not about me getting hurt, it's the others that you hurt. I'm so glad you thought about the job in a safe way. Regards,Tim.
Nicely done Bruce! Definitely would like to see you tackle the grader next! Thank you to the cameraman for taking on the heavy load so you can heal! Take care of yourself!
Take care of yourself, Bruce! Was awesome to see that old girl working, it's all good and well to get them to run, but to see them in action is so much better. Also, I thought you would know by now that asking if we want you to get the grader running comes under the title of 'Bloody stupid question!' Of course we do. Thanks for such wonderful content.
Another great show. Yes, please, on doing a show on the grader. I've been on and worked farms and ranches for most of my 56 year's and love when they modify machine's because it's what they could afford. Those old guys are part engineer. I knew one that took a model A Ford and used the frame engine and transmission and used it to power a chopper mixer for pig feed. I last saw him run it in 1990. It fired right up. He since passed away. Old Shelby Cook has long since passed. I bet that old rig would still run if he was around.
Dear Mr. Bruce. 👍👌👏 Very well done again (video and work). Oldies but definitely Goldies! This applies to Bruce and the bulldozer. 😁 ;-) Get 100% well soon, Sir! Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and especially health to all involved people.
An excellent demonstration of the situation where there's no replacement for good old fashioned grunt; the old girl barely noticed the tractors she was pulling out of the mire. Also always a treat to watch an experienced hand at the controls of a big machine - finished off with a very nice parking job!
Yeah, that's correct when it comes to reversing - we used to do it with our old CAT D5B in the New England. I know a few who did the same with D7G's & D9's too.
Thank you Bruce; one of the best yet. Your cameraman/person is very, very good, as is the editing. Almost pro documentary level. It is wonderful to see old machinery prove its worth and this old Cat really showed its value. The build fidelity of machines from the late 50s thru 80s was pretty high, simple but durable.
Very nice work sir. I grew up on a farm and know how bad a tractor can get stuck. A dozer could also get badly stuck, but is very strong and tracks is just great for grip.
Grader video would be great. My dad grew up operating TD35s and 40s. I grew up with D8s. Cable blade and rippers, pilot motor start. 6sp manual. Dams, fences, scrub pulling. We used 5th and 6th gears, but throttled down low, no torque but good for walking long runs. They would rattle and shake that bad in 6th at med rpm you struggled to stay on the machine, let alone if you hit a hole or rocked on a log, would catapult you into the cluch levers, and crack some ribs. We rotated tracks to wear the pins on both sides.
Best 45 minutes entertainment this week Bruce, great save, that old girl still has a lot of work left in her yet as do you. For sure mate, I would really love to see you kick the old grader in the pills and see if she’ll run. Your videos really are so down to earth and honest, just love them. Catch you next week Bruce, have a good one
I love Australian content, to me there is nothing better than Aussie movies, locally designed and built cars & machinery and the like and to top it off us Aussies as a people. A lot of people do this will it start bizzo from around the world but you old mate are bloody legend. I cant get enough, no bullshit no lies no crap just the real thing , thanks old mate total respect
Hi Bruce, good to hear the surgery has gone well, just be carefull to let your eye recover fully. Love this video, it brought back a few memories. Back in 1963 when I was 15 and just started my apprenticeship, I was buying 1 spanner a week, and the very first one I got was 1/4 whit. It was a Britool and I've still got it🙂. I also like how you use tyres on the straps and chains for safety in case any of them break under load. The number of young guys I see today who have no idea of safety when towing or winching, I've seen both chains and cables break under heavy load and they've had enough energy to take someones head off. They can call me an old know-it-all fart if they want but, after a lifetime in engineering I've still got both eyes and all my fingers. Keep yourself well and thanks for your videos. A video of the Grader would be interesting.
Nice work Bruce, Goes to show its all about ground pressure, not weight. 30T over 30 square feet of track is only 15 psi where the tractor is 5T on 3 square feet of tyre or 26 psi.
Pulled those big tractors out like it was nothing! Amazing how much dirt came out of the filters, getting the even bigger dozer running will be awesome!
Well done, Bruce. It is so good to see the old equipment do useful work to help the farmer neighbors. Glad your eye is recovering nicely. Keep following the doctor's advice and all should go well. Thanks for the great video. Complements to the Camera Man. David in the USA.
excellent job pulling the bogged tractors out. It would be great to see you get the D8 moving. The grader would be a good show also. I had a Massey Ferguson years ago with a Perkins engine. It was a good dozer and i never had any issues with that engine. Ran like a charm. Keep sending the great videos!
I was concerned about the weight of the dozer on that soaked ground But it was fine and it pulled out the tractors like they were not even there Good one Bruce Good to hear your eye is on the mend 👍👍
Absolutely loved this episode as well as the others but the on site rescue and ripping anecdotes using a machine we already know make it a beauty mate .Cheers from the mallee!
I was a bit worried you might blow a gasket in your eye again Bruce at 1:10 when you went to check the tranny fluid! Thankfully you took it easy enough for this not to happen ;) You and Alice saved the day!
Check hydraulic oil level when the rams/ pistons are in the up position. If you look at the dipstick while the hydraulics are in the lower position, It will give you a high reading. This is because the oil has been retracted from the hydraulic cylinders and back to sump. Which will raise level you are reading on the dipstick . That would be true, if these were single-acting cylinders like the one in most (older) tractors, were the hydraulic lifting arms can only lift, but not push down. The dozer has double-acting cylinders, which can push/pull in both ways. When the piston is retracted into the cylinder the piston-rod displaces oil, so there is more oil in the sump. It´s the other way around in this case.
That’s diesel and gasoline heavy equipment for you, at least on the older engines. If it bogs down it is either lack of air, fuel, or spark. On one gas engine rig I tried to start in TX it bogged just like that, but it wasn’t air or fuel-the damn muffler was almost stopped up! There was so much back pressure that it blew out the side of the muffler and then it was fine. After we cut the old muffler apart, we found that Mud-dauber wasps had built a HUGE series of nests inside final muffler stage, accessing it via the down-curved outlet pipe. The straight pipe was LOUD but it ran like a champ after that! Best wishes from Carmel, CA! If I can ever make it Down Under visiting you will be near the top of my list! 👍👍

I've always loved those graders...hello from Finland!
That's a wonderful idea. Hello from central California.
Thanks again Bruce , brilliant viewing. Glad all went well there , thanks
Best video production on equipment repair on UA-cam! The cameraman and Bruce do a great job at editing and production.
That dozer just said "hold my beer, I got some playing to do".
Yep , it said it had to go get the kids toys out of the sand pit .
G'day Bruce! True Blue Legend!
The best content on you tube Bruce.
That grader would be a good fix Bruce, it looks a classic 👍

Yeah, carton currency, a timeless Aussie obligation and tradition :):):)
Bring the grader back to life Bruce.
Love to see the grader get a bit of attention. The old Chamberlain tractor still working is good to see. Thanks for sharing.

Another great, Bruce. You’ve pumped them out this week. Keep the stories coming. Most informative.
It’s nice to watch a master mechanic that can also operate a piece of equipment perfectly. Good on you.
The Old Dozer did the Job... Another Top Video :)
Gday Bruce, the dozer is definitely coming in handy and goes to show that old machines still have the place, I wouldn’t mind seeing the grader come back to life to, great episode mate, cheers

Clean these dirty air filters at TS 20:00 min by lighting a fire cracker, putting the air filter over it and - Boom - all the dust will be out!

Great video Bruce and team!
Loved the tires put in the rigging of the straps and chains to prevent a dangerous situation!

Always a good day when Bruce uploads. Yes please let’s see the grader. I enjoyed the adventure today, thanks Bruce. Take care of yourself.
Thanks again for the video Bruce. That's a big yes from me to get the grader going. Would be good to see it pushing a bit of dirt. Cheers Evo..
