  • This year Batsheva turns fifty. The internationally acclaimed Israeli dance company's artistic director, Ohad Naharin, talks to JPostTV about 'Gaga', boycott, and why relying on mirrors is a mistake.
To celebrate its jubilee, over the next four months the company is reviving three of its director's award-winning works - 'Mamootot', 'Max', and 'Naharin's Virus' - on show in Tel Aviv from this week. More from The Jerusalem Post: www.jpost.com

I'm not a professional dancer at all, but I love dance as a form of expression, outlet, energy, art. I do a lot of dancing on my own outside classes, mostly improvisational, and I look forward to it every single time. It's like coming from a long hike and looking forward to water. I am inspired by the Batsheva company. These dancers are so strong, full of energy, life, intelligence. I love that these dancers are not rail thin or concerned about appearance so much. I am coming from a restrictive eating disorder and trying to heal, and the best thing for me is to get away from mirrors, and just learn to be in touch with my body. Not as easy as it seems.
