I was wondering about this! While on the hunt for easy Dutch music (to broaden my vocabulary and practice grammar, etc.) I encountered Nielsen's "Sexy als ik dans," where my translator rendered "als" as "if", so it came out as "Sexy if I dance," which was understandable, but a little weird. Clearly, then, it most closely means "when" in this context. This has cleared that up. Dank u wel!
Dank u veel! But couldn't we use "als" as we use 'when' in German? I speak German and want to see if Dutch also agrees with this special case : "Als ich Brot gegessen habe, kam meine Mutter nach Hause." (not to show what I know), just to understand if "als" can also be used when sth. happened only once in the past like her sister German. 🎉Your answers are always very helpful !!!

Thanks, Monique :) Yes, als and wanneer are synonyms in Dutch, except when asking questions: 'wanneer kom je' can't use 'als'.
Dank je voor dit. Nederlands is moeilijk voor mij. Je helpt veel

So nice videos it’s so good thanks, and i hope you keep making nice videos like this, but maybe if you are faster it would be nicer 😬😬
Thanks Luay!
BTW, I would love to ask is there any differences between “als” and “toen” ?
Aha, 'toen' is used as 'when' in the past. 'Als' or 'wanneer' for the present tense and the future tense.
@@LearnDutchwithAlain Oké, dankjewel voor jouw antwoord.
