I always thought it was more Surrealist than absurd, the situations are ridiculous, but they always felt like they had a dream logic, with everything being about mood first and all the fairytale story having some subconscious representation , even with just the way certain plot threads come up and go away and come back again random patterns
I just really believe penn and adam muto did heavy psychedelics in high school and collage. Its not a requirement for creating stuff like this but a lot of what these guys create put that vibe out.
Also when John DiMaggio asked Tom Kenny about what the show was when they first met, Tom told him to think of it as this generation’s Yellow Submarine (the movie not the song)
Yeah, Lemongrab is just generally one of the more unsettling characters in general anyway. That moment in particular is freaky, especially with how Lemongrab 2 screams with his eyes bluging out like that.
