I share an improvised melodic jam on my Access Music Virus TI2 Desktop virtual analogue synthesizer! I feel there hasn't been a whole lot of Access Virus videos or demos on UA-cam so I felt like recording a little jam from the other night. Hopefully you enjoy this video and if you're looking into getting a Virus Synthesizer for yourself, I hope this video helps inform your decision!
Just music, no talking! Enjoy, and let me know in the comments if you'd like to see more synth demo videos like this one!
Thanks for watching and I hope you have a great day!

One of the best synths ever made
I agree! Love it - it's super versatile!
@@jackthemurray Hey, do you know a cool place where to find cool presets banks for the Virus (Melodic Techno, House music) Thanks
I don't know unfortunately. My best guess would be to search on google and also check reddit/facebook for Virus user groups
Yet the company abandoned it and there is no new product, nothing: what a shame.
And the Novation S ummit is the best 😊
Had my Ti2 for about 5 years .. and hardly scratched the surface ... this is the deepest synth I've ever used .. and still scares me a little ;) will never be sold...
It truly is a beast! It's one of those synths where the biggest limitation tends to be the knowledge of the person using it. I only hope that some day I can truly learn it inside and out and tame this thing! No simple feat though! Thanks for the comment! Keep enjoying your Virus!
I love this synth! It truly is an amazingly powerful virtual analog! Let me know in the comments if you have any questions regarding the Access Virus TI2! Hope you enjoy the sounds! 👊😎
A nice demo of the lighter side of the Virus ... I do find it funny this synth hasn't been superseded by anything on the digital side imho .. becoming vintage but still unmatched ..
Agrees the Virus legacy still holds up fantastic today through all the various models which built upon themselves and only got better with time without the Virus series losing it’s core character. Someday Kemper will revisit the Virus architecture and surprise with something wonderful yet again.
I definitely agree. One day I hope to get a virus b as I've heard a lot of people like the sound better than the ti2. Either way I'm hoping Kemper comes back to Access once time allows. Thanks for sharing!
Can I ask if you have or had problems with notes that keep hanging while changing parameters?
Yeah it sometimes happens if I switch patches too fast. It's kinda just the name of the game with heavy load patches. Be sure to use the panic button (mono+sync) on the front panel to stop hanging notes!
I've come to really appreciate how well this synth covers analog sounds, especially Moog-style filters. It saves you so much money (and space!) you'd have to spend on vintage gear otherwise. Rather than buying 5 cheap emulators, I would recommend to anyone getting started with synths to pick up one of these modules and be happy and productive for many years to come.
Totally agree! This machine never ceases to surprise me! There’s always more to uncover. Definitely a synth that’s worth learning and getting proficient with. I need to spend more time building patches on it for sure!
But access did people dirty by not supporting the total integration for new macs.
@BidobaGonduba one of the music world’s greatest tragedies. RIP access. Maybe he’ll revisit it some day once he’s board with Kemper. Oh well
@@jackthemurray I don’t get why his company can’t support even 2 products (Virus and Profiler amp) when Japanese, Swedish and American companies support and release 100s of products every year. It’s either laziness or Kemper is a bad entrepreneur who doesn’t know shit about expansion and management of a company.
This and the Oberheim are two of the best sounding synths on the planet.
Definitely the bomb!
@@jackthemurray indeed well I've been getting into modular synths for a while even though more expensive, love custom instrument design one module a time and patch cables.
That's exciting! I imagine some day I'll get into modular when I can justify the cost. For now I'm more interested in writing/producing songs than sound design!
Man, some of those sounds are DENSE! some great patches - great upload!
Thanks Willlll! Appreciate you!
I think we're in sync......If you're interested, you'll find that I have a few Virus vidz on my channel......
This synth is sick!!
Once of my all time favorites! So grateful to own one!
Thanks for the sound demo of this one, not a lot of “demo only” videos on this one
You’re welcome! Thanks for the feedback!
I must own one of these. Ideally, I want the Dark Star version but sooo expensive. LF a good, used desktop version atm. Great video. tyvm!
Good luck, I hope you find one soon! I totally feel you on the Dark Star version. They're gorgeous. But as long as you have a decent midi controller I dig the practicality of the desktop version. Happy hunting - I got lucky and got mine like new for 1100$ from a guy in the next town because he was too afraid to ship it and only offered local pickup. Thanks for the kind words and feedback!
This synth is amazing, i'm toying between buying the virus or the darkstar
I love it! I wish I had the polar or dark star, but it’s a solid desktop module and the lack of keys saves space
I have one too. But the Darkstar TI2 version. Let me tell u, it's my only digital synth. Btw amen for having the editor for this. We can go further with that because now we get to really use the matrix. Programming the matrix without editor? It's hard
Definitely agree! The Darkstar is awesome btw!
I want one of these to go with my hydrasynth!
Ooo that'd be epic! I don't have a hydrasynth but they seem aweeeesomeee!
I definitely want one for my setup with Moog and Elektron gear.
I’m sold!
I’ve been looking at Waldorf Quantum or Iridium
but this one does the magic at a lower price!
The Virus truly is an amazing machine! And still super relevant! Grab one if you can find a good price!!
Dude my only complaint is you should have stayed on each patch for a bit longer, some of them ended way too soon. Really nice melodies and great video!
Thanks for the feedback GENAcc. I'll keep that in mind for future demo videos! Got one coming soon actually! Thanks!
@@jackthemurray hell yeah, I mean if you have the time don't be afraid to jam out. You got some skills on the keys so it's nice to listen to and the virus sounds beautiful
Can you detail the other gear in this video? What's the best keyboard for the virus ti?
The keyboard I'm using in the video is an older M Audio Axiom 49 gen 1. There is no best keyboard for the Virus TI. Any nice synth action midi controller will work just fine. I'd probably pick something like the Novation 49SL or 61SL. But really, anything will work.
I need this synth
Nahh bro you need ME in your studio WITH this synth!
❤❤❤
♥️
I've been considering a TI2 since as long as I can remember, and seeing demos like this reminds me why it's such a beast. Yet, lately I've been leaning more towards getting a Peak. Do you have any experience with the Peak? Also, nice Axiom :) I'm still rocking one myself, an older model just like yours
The Ti2 is insane. I've only begun to scratch the surface. It's truly like having a VST softsynth in hardware form. Any limitations I've faced have been due to my own lack of deep understanding of the synth, not the fault of the TI2 itself. I haven't had much experience with the Peak but I will say it looks rather tempting. It's definitely a different beast than the Virus but a cool synth in its own rite. I have been pretty happy with Novation lately. I recently purchased a Bass Station 2 and have been really impressed with the work they put in the 4.14 firmware... which basically revamped the synth completely. So if they put that much effort into the peak, it's bound to be a good instrument for years to come. Who knows, maybe I'll buy one, but I definitely wouldn't give up the Virus for it. Hope that helps! Haha and thanks for noticing the axiom! They're definitely underrated and are great controllers. I began my production career using one, used them in college, and I've used them since. I've found it hard to be impressed with "modern" flashy midi controllers and the axiom is super capable, so I just stick with what works! Thanks again man!
There's a mod matrix feature and usually u use the software editor. Otherwise, programming it can be overwhelming.
Should I get this or the virus c. Price does not matter to me. I really like the virus c my friend has. Just wondering from someone who has used both. Thanks.
Personally I'd go Virus Ti2 or Virus B. A lot of people claim the Virus B sounds more desirable than the Ti2. While the C has never stood out IMO.
@@jackthemurray thanks
Hi! 🙌
Could you tell me please a difference between last 3 models of Virus Ti2, Darkstar and Polar? Thank you
They are all the same! Dark star and polar include a small keyboard, and are special edition colors, whereas the regular Ti2 has no keyboard and is the standard color. Other than that there is no difference. Enjoy!
Hello, I am writing to know how you connect the axion directly to your virus, if you could tell me what cables you use and another question, where can I get the vsti access virus? buy a second hand one go to the access page and it seems that the code is already registered :-( if you can help me here and excuse me
Hey R3KAB! Thanks for reaching out! The axiom is connected to the virus with a standard MIDI DIN cable. The cable is connect to the MIDI OUT of the axiom and to the MIDI in on the virus TI. Do you own a Virus TI2? The plugin only works if you have the synth connected as it's only a controller for the synth.
is there any way to power off the desktop version completely? i know if you hold down both transpose buttons together, it goes into “sleep mode”, but haven’t found a way to turn it off completely, unless of course you unplug it.
As far as I know the sleep mode is the only way. From what I've heard when it's in "sleep" it's basically off so there's no need to fear about it still being on. It's a strange design. Idk why they didn't just put a switch on the back. I have mine plugged into a Furman conditioner that's switched off unless I'm in my studio working. That way I have a "hard" off switch per say. But either way I know that Access wouldn't have designed it this way if the unit wasn't meant to remain plugged in on "sleep". So I don't worry about it and I treat "sleep" as an off button. Hope that helps
@@jackthemurray Strangely enough, If I had the virus in sleep mode for too long without it being turned off, it would show strange behaviour or not turn on altogether. Also, blinking lights on inactive devices are very annoying...
I agree! I have mine on a switched power conditioner and it always goes off when I'm not working on music!
One thing I'm now wondering, is any edition of the Virus capable of emulating or duplicating the DX chime tone, or is that not the purpose of its frequency modulation busses?
Hey Eric, great question! This is beyond my Virus FM synthesis knowledge. My guess is that the Virus could get fairly close using digital oscillators - but it has pretty limited FM features (and no FM engine to my knowledge). Plus, there's better and cheaper ways to get FM if that's what you're specifically looking for. For example the new Korg OPSIX looks killer! And I plan to get one soon. I have a Yamaha Reface DX as well which is a good 4 OP FM synth - but I'm having a feeling the Korg might replace it altogether. Anyway, sorry that isn't the most helpful answer. Hopefully someone else will reply with more info. Best wishes!
I appreciate the response and advice, @@jackthemurray.
Good video! I'm curious about the TI2 vs the Waldorf Iridium. Can the Iridium do what the TI2 does?
I've never used an Iridium so I can't say. My guess is it can do more, however I'm sure there's an argument to be made that the Virus has a character that might not be exactly replicated by a newer, more feature packed synth.
Hello, excuse me, could you tell me how the speakers are connected in the Virus tI2 desktop in which part of the virus they are connected and which cables to use 🤔
Use TRS 1/4 inch cables out of output 1 and 2! Those can be plugged directly into a speaker or into a mixer! Hope that helps.
@@jackthemurray and for the virus to start playing you need a midi keyboart or piano or just by moving the buttons of the virus it has to sound
Correct, you need a midi controller or sequencer/DAW to use the desktop module.
@@jackthemurray and if you touch the keyboard buttons they also do the effect on the virus or only the keys work for the virus...
It depends on the keyboard you use. If the keyboard is a midi controller with midi CC knobs and buttons, then the controller knobs and buttons can be assigned to control some virus parameters. If it’s just another synth that doesn’t have midi cc output knobs, then just the keys will work
Jack, does it live up to the decade of hype?;)
I meaaaannnnn, I love it. I think it's a great instrument. It's not the be all end all of synthesis though. There's some crazy stuff out (Waldorf) and new stuff coming out every year. So it's person preference at this point I'd say
I've got a Ti Polar Kbd and a C desktop. Love em both. I've also got a Matriarch, Polybrute, Nova, JDXA and others.... However it's ALWAYS the Viruses which give me that instant gratification when playing. They also sound amazing. Plus, there's almost no sound you can't make with a Virus. 😁 ♥ 🎶 🎹
I've been interested in buying this beauty since forever. I know Greg Kurstin my favorite producer uses it a lot. Today i'm coming back on it again, today i'm getting it 😍
Jack did you know where you can download additional soundsets? I know the virus website provides good banks.
So happy for you! You're going to enjoy it for sure! It's a beast. Regarding extra sounds, I'd just check reddit or virus user groups. But honestly, there's so many presets on board and that come with the manager software - I've never ran out and there's always more to explore. Hope that helps!
My virus ti is on sale😀
Amazing demo- thanks for sharing. Makes me totally want to get one of these myself! I would say that I want to get a Virus, but that sounds totally wrong! :-)
Haha thanks Mark! I appreciate you! Yeah I love my Virus! But it's definitely the only virus I want to get in 2020 😜
@@jackthemurray - yeah- I have an Alesis Ion which I have loved, but seeing what you have done with the Virus is making me wonder if it is time to trade up...
The Virus is incredible..honestly it's so deep and I've only barely scratched the surface. It truly feels limitless as far as hardware is concerned. I definitely recommend!
Just wondering what the patch starting at 4:00 minutes is, sounds great
I wish I kept track for this video but I didn't think about it at the time. I've since learned. If I can figure out which one it was I'll post it here!
Can you show some of the arps please?
Definitely! I plan to do a video of each sound category. Thanks for the suggestion!
Do you use the audio outputs or just audio over USB?
I typically the audio outputs. Not a huge fan of the usb/integration stuff.
hi, what's the name of the keyboard please ? thx
M Audio Axiom 49 Gen 1
sound too metalic/digital like imo, or is that just the presets hes playing? can it replicate that proper rough matte analog sound?
It could very well be the presets. It's a digital synth but it is a virtual analog so it should get pretty close to the analog sound. But I haven't yet done an A/B comparison between the digital Virus and something like my analog Moog Voyager.
A Summit is better. Forget the Virus.
I know that Access put Virus updates and development on the backburner to focus on the Kemper Profiler, but is it still worth it to buy if I don't mind using it without the accompanying software? Thanks!
100% worth it. It's an amazing hardware synth and lately I don't use the software because what's the point of having a nearly knob per function hardware synth if you're just going to use the VST? I'd only say it may not be worth it if using the software is a deal breaker for you. But like I said it's 100% worth it just for the hardware! Hope that helps!
@@jackthemurray Oh nice! I'd imagine it can make pretty much any sound I can think of. There are a lot of vintage analog synths I love, but this seems like it can emulate them pretty well. No offense to vintage synth collectors.
Oh yeah! Obviously if I could afford a studio full of vintage mono and polysynths I would. But until then, I'll rely on the virus. Because honestly at this point the only limiting factor with that synth is my knowledge and skills programming it.
It is a shame…
At 4.39 what patch?
I believe the one you're referring too is called Hypnecho. I don't recall the original ROM location as I copied it to RAM
KORG WAVESTATE can do same ???
Not sure, I’ve never used a Wavestate.
hello sir, what stand is the virus resting on? looks nice.
It's actually custom made out of one side of this Ikea crate! www.ikea.com/us/en/p/knagglig-box-pine-70292359/
@@jackthemurray oh cool thanks
This is ear sex ... please do more and for much longer! ... Love this synth so much!~
