I just did this for the first time at the skatepark today before even watching this and I have say that when u go up the ramp u can feel when it’s right to turn
frontside and backside is defined with your orientation relative to whatever you're tricking on. that's a backside kickturn because you're butt is towards the ramp
Just subbed, it is a good explanation and tutorial on shifting weight. I had a problem on kicking turning on ramp that my body wasn’t facing downward completely to the ramp after I kick turned so my weight would be on rear foot , then the board shoot out and I had to jump off my board.
this is so helpful. everytime i asked my friends how to do it they jsut said look the other way but the details and tips were so helpful, thank u sm :)
Thanks for the video! I just started skateboarding again after owning one in high school just for fun, it's been a blast crusing around town and I wanna learn to skate transition.
i had a buddy today tell me to go up a hip an kick turn out an damn did i fall today lol just started an looked up how to kick turn out an had to click this video once i seen it thank you ben lol
The problem I have is pumping when kickturn in order to gain speed or mantain it at least, no one teaches that on youtube, and it's so important, becuase I can do kick turns, but every single time I lose speed
@@JJ-el6qx Braille has a good video on it, I don’t know how to explain it but it’s basically putting strategic pressure on the board to gain momentum on a slope so you don’t lose speed. Usually you ride with knees bent but to pump, on a ramp, just before you hit the flat you push your weight into the board straightening your legs before you go back into normal position.
whats the dif between this and snap? when turning, do both legs do the work? initially i tried to put my weight on the backfoot and mostly trying to swing the front to turn. then one day i suddenly also concurrently sweep my backfoot too as i was turning. is it supposed to be like that? i find using both feet allows me to turn more, but it somehow doesnt feel like a kickturn
Thanks bro im learning so fast in a less week i can ride semi not stiff and now ima go learn how to do this so i dont have to stop when i get to the ramp i also can ollie alittle bit 😊😊😊
I don't think you have to push mongo to practise kickturns, i think you can push regular , just need to get your front foot on the nose. I think its easier to practise on a ramp, just starting low. I can 180 pivot easy enough i just need to do it on the ramp now. Thanks for the tips, great video.
do i HAVE to push mongo? couldnt you just push switch and get in a kind of nollie position and then kickturn? or am i just beeing goofy? xD pun intended
Thx to this tutorial learned in 2 hours on a 6 foot... thx man
Wot
There are people who say “just twist when you go up the ramp and done” I like how you said it in detail!
(Btw, this really helped learned it an hour👍🏻

"... but you HAVE TO push mongo, which is difficult for a beginner" - didn't expect to hear this on a skating channel. Now the universe is broken.
Just makes him sound like he doesn’t know what he’s talking about
I was surprised to hear that too
He was talking about how to enter the fakie position
it sounds like he doesnt know what hes talking about but you can do this when you have no ramp to practice on
@@larshbn couldn't you just ride normally, position your feet and swing the board from the back tho?
i’m a 10 year old and my ramp at my skate park and i always do this it is so fun thanks for the totorial
Great job! I am 12, and I can’t kick turn.
Suprisingly, I’m also a 10year old that likes skateboarding
You're all gay
Funny seeing young kids commenting on this channel.

I really enjoy your videos . I like the way you explain things.
Been 25 years since I skated so I found this great ! thanks Ben.

good tutorial didn’t even watch the whole vid & learned immediately. get your kick turns down first ,& turn right before your board goes down
I wasn't sure to approach this the best and as a learner it's the move I've messed up. Thanks for this breakdown
Just discovered your channel recently. Love your videos.
Really good video, better than some tutorials with millions of views.
Thanks for the video! I just started skateboarding again after owning one in high school just for fun, it's been a blast crusing around town and I wanna learn to skate transition.
Thank you bro this really help
Got it on maybe my 3rd try this past weekend. Thank you 🙏🏼
Thanks for making these tutorials! I love them!

Nice video Ben. My daughter thought this was really helpful. We're going to have to watch it a few more times 😁
Happy to be of service. I'm sure I missed some things but nothing you can't glean from other videos.
You're always at the coolest skate parks and spots
I got it in about 20mins, the part about the timing really helped me alot.
Well done in explaining this!
Perfectly explained, thanks!

Me too! What I do is I try to do pump before I do one and pump after. Even with this, I don’t get much speed doing kickturns.
@@Pinky-vp7yt what's pumping? Pushing?

Thanks for making this video it really helped me quite a bit!
Pls also talk about the Feet position on the board
hey Ben, thanks for the video :)
Great teacher. The best! thanks
It seems really fun, gonna try it tomorrow
Guys I did it
This is so cool I can do it too
Why would you have to push mongo just push switch
No
Pushing switch is most likely gonna be harder for beginners
Because you ultimately have to wind up with the front foot forward of the front truck to do the kick turn.
What I like to do is go in my garage and push to the garage door and push back so I’m riding switch and kick turn to regular
Great video, thank you.

Learning this now 2nd month In skating !!
Can’t wait to apply this shit tomorrow morning!
I tried getting softer bushings to loosen up my trucks, but now I end up getting wheel bite..

Good video. Thanks!
Would this work on 80a or 78a duro wheels when starting those ¼ turns?
Yes. You just need to lighten up on the front wheels and push a little harder. You will get used to whatever you are riding.
@@bendegros Thank you for guiding us, so we have less doubt in our heads and get out there and skate!
Omg where is that skate park

Great tutorial only thing is you don't have to push mongo at all there is many different ways but I don't think mongo is a correct way
Thanks
Thanks, I have been skating for
2 and a half months and I can drop in on a half pipe kickturn and rock to fakie
Its like bottom turning
but what about frontside...
Just subbed... how ya doin?
Jamie Flowers I'm doin purdy assum. Just wrapping up work for the night☺
Ben Degros ah very nice. Hope you had a good day :)
Thanks cheif
huh i just did it
Mango pushes are easy
You basically walk on your pushing leg
mambo
Mangoaway
canada eh
mongo difficult for a beginner? lol
IamMortui He’s saying to push switch mongo so you’re in position for the pivot which can be kind of awkward but is how learned fakie pivots
I only can bs kickturn on a ramp.
Is it only me or does he need a new board lol
This dude sounds like the rabbi from Seinfeld and I can’t unhear it
POV your hear for the “aesthetic” smh
That’s frontside
Thanks
