What a lovely cottage!!!! So many memories and a very tranquil vibe from what was obviously a home filled with lots of love.Such and interesting video Jane well done x
What a lovely cottage, but those stairs, i was holding my breath as you was going down them. I'm 61 and started death cleaning in march. As i don't want my kids having to deal with mine and hubby's stuff. Good luck with the move.
Beautiful cottage, but yes downsizing is a task when parents get older I’ve been there and done it, your doing an excellent job 😊 hope the house move goes smoothly for your mum xx
I can imagine what you’re going through so understand how your mum is struggling to let go of things. All of the memories attached to her cottage, her family and her husband must be making it very hard for her poor soul. She’s being very brave to make a sensible move now while she is able and it will, I’m sure, be beneficial for her - especially if/when she has her knees done. Well done for helping her and your daughters, I’m exhausted just hearing about it so understand you must be shattered. Stay safe and hope you enjoyed chillaxing on Sunday.
You are doing it the right way. I thought it was best to get rid of it all before my mom paid movers but I wish we had let her. Then she would have seen how you can’t cram everything in a smaller house and I wouldn’t have been the enemy. She is gone now and all of her stuff but my MIL is 95 living in a crammed full house and basement. We will let her die first as long as she lives here hopefully to the end. My friend’s knees got so much better after she moved from her two story to a single floor house. I hope your mom’s will.
My heart goes out to you. Have gone through similar with my parents and my hubs parents. It’s a total wrench and exhausting. Take care and all good wishes to you.
That all looks extremely demanding on some many levels, Jane. You deserve a holiday! Beautiful cottage :-) Cant believe your mum has been navigating those stairs recently! My parents moved into a tiny retirement block a few years ago and try stay on top of the clutter, that said, they both have a penchant for 'bargains' (obviously in my DNA) and I think its starting to get a bit problematic again! I get messages telling me they've take bags to the charity shop and then ones saying what wonderful bargains they've found
Having decluttered my mothers home as she was downsizing, I share your pain. I am now doing it for myself, as we ae hoping to downsize/move next year. Starting early. By doing a bit regularly, I am hoping fir less pain!!!
Oh Jane, I feel for you. My mother owned a 12 room home with a full sized basement and walk up attic. The ENTIRE structure was filled with furniture , etc...including my father's clothing and tools ( he had passed on 10 years before). She refused to downsize, even though my brothers and I begged her to. When she passed on, we were overwhelmed. We finally got to the point where we rented a HUGE dumpster and just chucked stuff out the window. It was awful. Good luck, dear.
Oh gosh, Jane, I feel your pain 😢We did it a few years ago after mum and then father in law died. It was so draining both physically and emotionally. The stairs in your mum's cottage look really dangerous. My mum in laws old house had ones like those and I fell down them when I was 19 years old ! 😂 Luckily I broke the heel of my shoe and not a leg! Good luck, with the move , Angie x
Oh Jane. I have tried to declutter my mother in laws wardrobes at her request but she wouldn't let anything go. She had a sweater with tags still on that is 30 years old, she wouldn't let it go. She had 27 tablecloths, she doesn't ever use tablecloths, she didn't get rid of 1. I know your pain. ❤
You truly are a member of the "sandwich generation". I find it exhausting just listening to your vlog! I thought it was hard when we had to clear my parents 4-bedroom house after my father passed away, but I think we had it easy compared to you! It did make me vow though that I would never put my family through that and husband and I have downsized a lot as we are aging ourselves now. Good luck with all the packing, moving and unpacking. Sounds as though you need a holiday!
@@susanashton6608 that was two extra rooms you had! I never thought about it all before but it does make you think. We have a holiday booked for next month!
I cleaned up my mother's house twice in four years. She was never good about getting rid of stuff but began compulsively shopping and hoarding as she got older. It was a huge and expensive ordeal to get it safe for her to live in and then ready to sell after the second time. You have all my sympathies as a member of the "Been there, done that" club.
we are in our mid 50ts ad just moved to a bungalow for that reason of not having stairs plus i have a bad foot and some days i really struggled to get up and down ! your mums place is lovley x
What a sweet little place and the steps are a nightmare. I've started my own death cleaning and it's SO hard because of the memories. We have given away about 24 feet of books as well as small appliances we never use, about a third of our clothes. The list goes on and on! I feel for both of you.

Your Mum's cottage is so cozy! I can see why you are so tired. I hope you find a day to rest and reload soon. We downsized and moved into our retirement home and still have too many things. I continue to declutter so our kids won't have to. I have a few boxes of pictures and keepsakes from my Mom that I need to go through. I'm going to get that done this week!
@@lilybee_ I’m going to get my mum to take some of her photos out of frames and put them into albums. That’s a job for the new flat though. It’s nice to have photos but you can only look at so many 😀
Cute little cottage. I was wondering as you went up the stairs how the furniture would get out. My mom still lives at home, 5 bedroom, 2 story. We have gotten rid of some things, but still more.
