Great video-it covered all the tuneup points. Thanks. I’m just starting to do the end of season service on my BG55 and this really helps. I appreciate the wrench sizes and the part numbers.
EXCELLENT VIDEO!!!!! I like that you stay on topic, do not give any ways to avoid the correct thing, and are very clear what tool to use and how to take something apart. Thank you
I remove and clean spark plugs every week without taking any covers off. My machines run every day. I always clean the carb area with carb cleaner prior to removing the air filter. I will also never Rev a cold engine like that. I start them and lem them idle for a while.
hi buddy, nice work but when you installed the air filter there was a lot of dirt on the carburetor so it wouldn't have been necessary to pass the air compressor?
Is there an oil change or any other important maintenance requirements that weren't in your video? I bought the blower used from a pawn shop and I want it to longevity.
My Stihl SH86C Gas Blower started to leak or drip a bit of oil. Really not good when on my covered patio area as just a problem. Today, I changed the Fuel Filter, Spark Plug, Air Filter, and then for the first time ever took out the Spark Arrestor. It was very clogged up but after cleaning thoroughly it now looks quite clean. I then filled with new gas mixture and started it up. It seems to be running very good. I ran the Blower for about 30 minutes with the Spar Arrestor not installed as there was white smoke coming out of the Arrestor port and it was spurting very small amounts or oil. I am hoping that the very clogged Arrestor was creating a back pressure sufficient to have caused the oil drip issue and should know in the next week. I do not want to deal with an oil leak when using so if still a problem, it may be time for a new blower? Thoughts? Thank you John
Same issue with mine. 12:02 It runs but that isn't full power. It's running at 2/3's. I had to break off the fuel adjustment cap to even get it to that point.
@@avalanchereviews2352 Oh yeah, no problem with the the motor. It turns over. I can pull the cord until my arm fell off but it won't start. I'm smelling gas when I'm pulling the cord. I'm going to replace the spark plug and see if that works.
We don't torch spark arrestors. We toss them far away as far as we can throw them, never to replace those headachs again. Except in California...you do not want to use a Stihl w/o a spark arrestor.
Thank you for the helpful video. What if my BG55 has a spark arrestor without a screen? Should I replace it with one like yours? Basically I got only the screw :) How important is the spark arrestor? I looked on your channel for the video related to this but did not find it. I've also subscribed
Ya I cleaned it ran mechanic in a bottle, took carb apart as much as I desired and soaked in mechanic in a bottle but still didn't start. My weed eater did benefit from mechanic in a bottle and started with some black smoke blowing out. Blower still won't start so I ordered a new carb...Should be here tomorrow
Yes it could keep blower from starting if the exhaust screen gets an excessive amount of buildup on it. Most of the time the symptom of a dirty arrestor screen is poor throttle response. Check that before adjusting or changing out your carb. A month or 2 after I got mine I cut the screen off and put it back in pretty much eliminates any exhaust issues in the future. Still From time to time take it out and make sure the hole in that muffler bolt is open of any debris or gunk. I checked mine this week it was fine along with a full spring service of the machine. I have the 86 blower.
YES. I couldn't start my BG55... took it to dealer, paid $40 "diagnostic fee" and was told it needed a carb and total repairs would be about what a new blower costs. They offered to apply the $40 to the new blower. I said "no thanks" and brought it home, pulled out the spark arrestor, and it fired on a half-pull and ran great. Called the dealer tech and he said "Really? Gee I never thought of that!" but refused to refund my $40.
I can’t believe you didn’t blow the crap around the carburetor out, the grass clippings, dust and crap. It would have taken you 10 seconds with compressed air.
Thank you for viewing my video, and thank you for pointing that out. I'm not sure if I mentioned that in this video, but I know I did in other video, but every unit I work on get pressure washed really good to get all that crap out of those areas and it cleans it and makes it look nice as well. Again, thanks for the view and the input, it really helps the channel.
Yup, dealer charged me almost $100 a few years back to replace the carb on my FS45 string trimmer. I could have bought a brand new trimmer for $139!! I couldn't believe it. Wish I had consulted with UA-cam back then. I could have fixed it myself for less than $15.00........

Followed your instructions, removed the spark arrestor, runs fine now ... big THANKS :))))
very good video ,well done, short and sweet like a donkeys gallop
Thank you so much, all the correct information I needed to service my Stihl blower.

Hey thanks for the video. Mine has just started to get a little harder to start so I’ll be doing that service tomorrow.
Hea Brotha, Very well done video. Cue Cards with all the parts numbers, just a very well done video. Awesome, Cheers.

Thanks for video. Very helpful.
adjust it so it stays running and smoothly with the H and L screws and the idle adjust screw.
Excellent, Thank you
Every 2 stroke that I work on gets a compression test & fuel line pipes checked / changed. the fuel we are getting in the UK eats 2 stroke rubber.....
Thank-you! This helped a lot!
I just put a new primer bulb on a stihl BG 55 BUT IT ISN'T WORKING NOT PRIMING WHAT YOU THINK IT IS?
Nice work, thanks for posting!

Did you ever solve this issue?
I believe the spark arrestor reduces power for sure.
Sounds like it needs to idle down and open up under full throttle. Mine sounds like a hot saw.
Same issue with mine. 12:02 It runs but that isn't full power. It's running at 2/3's. I had to break off the fuel adjustment cap to even get it to that point.
Just a suggestion. Remove air filter completely and test to see if RPMS come up to full power?
Thanks for this video!
Very helpful thank you !
Great
I have a heck of a time starting up my blower. Do you have a video on cleanning my carb?
My 55 was running fine last week. Now, it won't even turn over. Nothing. Suggestions? I'm thinking the spark plug went? Anything else to look at?
Does the engine still turn at all?

Thanks hombre
Use the right tool ,Geesh
Aren't u suppose to let it warm up a little before u go full throttle
I ‘Stihl’ hate mine, funny I got the $11 eBay carburetor and it’s the best it’s ever ran ‘Stihl’ a junk machine

$200 .. thanks for coming
That's how much you would get charged in Aus for the service...
$35 here in the USA

Probably best to put one in it if it were me any way.
amazing how easy spark plugs come out when a dab of anti seize is used
are those the same parts for the bg56
My shop replaced carb instead of rebuild. Adjust screws have travel limiters, not good. Remove.
is it just me or did it sound like that blower wasn't revving up to full RPM? seemed like it was bogging.
He didn’t warm it up. These have to warm up for a minute to rev up properly.
My stihl takes a few tries before it will stay running
U should have changed the primer bulb also. Looks old n soft. Jmo.
Will that exhaust piece you cleaned keep it from starting
Brett Nelms Probably not. Usually just poor acceleration.
if it gets plugged up enough, it could keep the unit from starting.

Don't pull the tricker when the choke is on
Looked like unmixed fuel you put in there
Heat torch, sparks and fuel cap removed lol.

They don't make $$$ on service, they make $$$ selling new blowers. :)
In Ontario, they want $75.00 fer a basic tune up excluding any replacement parts.
