This saga of the naval operations in the Indian Theater is incredible and is helping me create my alternative history about a country in the German colony of East Africa. Please, you should touch on the naval campaigns in the rest of the scenarios such as the Aegean Sea, Adriatic Sea and the Black Sea. Most people only know about Jutland/Skagerrak or maximum Dogger Bank, it would be very good to publicize these confrontations that gave important changes during the war. The battles in the Aegean between the Entente and the Ottoman Empire and the Black Sea between Russia against the Ottomans. Naval battles in WWI not only Dogger Bank or Jutland/Skagerrak but also in other equally important theaters.
It was an informative and wonderful historical coverage episode about the German Empire Navy behind highly seas during WW1 early years. Episode shared by an excellent ( house of history) channel.
At 4:35 SMS Emden is shown. This is second Emden launched in 1916 and surrendered to the British at Scapa Flow in 1919. She was given to the French as war reparations. The forward funnel is larger plus if you look the turret configuration it differs
The picture of Emden show the fourth dummy funnel to the rear of Emden's third funnel. This is incorrect as with the depiction of this on the commemorative envelope produced by Australia Post . The idea of the fourth funnel disguise is credited to von Mucke, most British cruisers had either four or two funnels .Emden had three. "Up above, a wooden post was fastened at the proper place in front of our forward funnel .and then the counterfeit funnel was placed in position around it." Ref : von Mucke, The Emden, Ritter & Company ,1917 pg 44. This is corrected at 11:05 when the forward funnel trembles -it would only do this if it was a "dummy"
HMS Pegasus did not raise a white flag she raised the White Ensign which is the term for the British battle flag. The flag is a St. George’s cross with a Union Jack in the top right corner. Until she struck her colors Pegasus was signaling her intention to fight, not her intention to surrender.
As the English narrator must know, there is no such thing as an 'English' cruiser. England hasn't been a sovereign state since 1707. The RN and all it's ships are *_not_* English. They are *_British._* Please stop trying to exterminate the non English cultures of the British Isles.
@@ranica47 There are two groups guilty of doing as I said. A minority of English who do it intentionally and a majority of non British who unwittingly follow their cue. I am contemptuous of both. Being 'Polish', is not a valid excuse.
