Thank you Rachel! It's amazing how little highly rated results Google came up with when trying to find some Christmas themed thrillers for the next few weeks. Now to decide which of your recommendations to read :)
Thank you for the recs. I am currently reading The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley (winter themed thriller) and Wraith by Joe Hill (graphic novel). I also have Secret Santa on my list. Can't remember the author off the top of my head. So far NOS4A2 is probably my favorite Christmas themed horror. I am a sucker for R.L. Stine's New Year's Eve Party for a little after, though!
Hi Rachel! Dying for Christmas sounded right up my alley, and my library didn’t have it so I purchased the audiobook. I am enjoying it so far, so thank you for the recommendation! I just finished “You Love Me”, but before that I could just not get into reading. Well, listening is more accurate as it is my preferred way to enjoy books these days. I hope you are doing well!
Yes please my tbr list is growing up and nearly 400 books 📚 so thank you 😊 please stay safe and enjoy your reading 📖 love you and your amazing channel love your number one Australia friend John xxx
I'm not a fan of cozy Christmas stories so this list is perfect! I'm reading Krampus by Brom for the first time this year and the lore is fascinating! I'm always on the hunt for horror anthologies so I will definitely be reading Taaqtumi 😁 ~Laura
I read Krampus several years ago during the Christmas season and really enjoyed it! Highly recommend adding this book to the list next year for those who like folklore.
I have The Mist, and The Terror on hand already - I just need to dive in! I’m ordering Dying for Christmas because so many Christmas themed books are romances or cozies, which is not a preferred genre for me, so this sounds like the exact thing I’ve been looking for.
I am holding off on The Terror until January but I did just pick up Taaqtumi because that sounds amazing! I also have The Shuddering and Dying for Christmas so I will add them to my TBR for December.
I LOVED Dying for Christmas!!! The quality of the writing and the story-line turned out to completely exceed my expectations. I was so surprised by how dark and disturbing this book quickly became! It was so engaging and full of tension - reeling me in from the very first page.
Thank you for the seasonal recommendations! The Terror has been on my radar for years, but since it’s the December read for one of my reading groups, I’ll finally be taking the plunge, probably over a nice long weekend with a warm fire burning. ☺️ The other books you recommend also sound good to try, including The Last Christmas, which would be a fun little diversion!
I must have watched this last year because I have all these books except for the graphic novel one. Terror is on my Kobo already. Maybe once I finish K. Eason's 2nd book--I'm taking my time with it to keep the mystery going--I'll start on The Terror.
@@TheShadesofOrange Just found out I've signed out 2119 books from just one library since October 18, 2017. That's an average of 1.13 books a day. Definitely didn't read that many though. If a library book doesn't catch me in the first few chapters, then I haven't lost any money if I DNF it. I should check the other library I use and see how many books I've signed out from there
The Last Christmas made me think of Weird Al's The Night Santa Went Crazy :D I watched the BBC adaptation of The Terror and it was really good so I may pick up the book to see how it compares.
You definitely got my attention with The Mist. Definitely not looking for "cozy" here, lol! Now, I noticed that it's a #3 in a series. Does it matter that I start here? Is it one of those series where each can be read alone / out of order? Also, great shout-out for The Terror. Love Dan Simmons, and The Terror was fantastic!!
You asked for input, so I want to recommend an old(er) seasonal ummm...'horror' novel: The Stupidest Angel (A Heartwarming Tale of Christmas Terror) by Christopher Moore. It has been a few years since I've read it, but remember it being hilarious, gruesome, irreverent and generally inappropriate. Moore sets this in his familiar Pine Cove, so bizarre characters in absurd situations are to be expected. I laughed and laughed.
I used to walk to work in -40 weather (Celcius) and I made sure that every walk I was listening to the Terror on audiobook...it was the ultimate immersive experience haha.
As always, it is such a pleasure to listen to you recommend books. I am heavily into reading horror. Let me know how you found Ratnakar Matkari (Had mentioned it last time). Another author who is good is K Hari Kumar.
I put off reading THE TERROR for years because its length was so daunting, but I'm glad I finally did. I really liked it.
Same here!

Ahhh yes the You series is fantastic on audio. I think Dying for Christmas is available via Hoopla but the audiobook version is probably great

Happy to add to your tbr John!
"Christmassy Horror." Phrases I never thought I'd ever hear... LOL
Lol! It's my favourite!
This has to be one of my favorite videos of yours! I would have completely disregarded Dying for Christmas if not for you.
Oh thank you! That makes my day! And yes Dying for Christmas sounded super junky but I ended up being wonderfully surprised by it
I will definitely be adding some of these to my holiday tbr. Thanks for the great video!
Awesome!

Aww yes I'm glad you share my aversion to cute Christmas books. I much prefer the creepy ones!

So glad you're enjoying that one!

Yes! Exactly! I also want to read something "Christmasy"... but all the holiday books are cute contemporary romances.
I am holding off on The Terror until January but I did just pick up Taaqtumi because that sounds amazing! I also have The Shuddering and Dying for Christmas so I will add them to my TBR for December.
I hope you enjoy all of them!

Exactly! It definitely exceeded my expectations
I literally stopped everything I was doing to order Taaqtumi lol....it sounds so interesting and I love indigenous horror as well. 🖤
Glad you share my love for indigenous horror... It's so good!

Yeah the graphic novel was a little rough... but it was Christmas horrora

I noticed The Mist is Book Three of the Hidden Iceland series. Do I need to read books one and two beforehand?
No, the mystery is entirely self contained it just features the same detective
@@TheShadesofOrange Thank you! 😊 I'm going to read/listen to at least four of your recommendations.
My end of year TBR is a little daunting but Dying for Christmas is available on Hoopla soooooo I guess one more can't hurt 😉
Ooh awesome! I want to reread it myself one of these years
The Last Christmas made me think of Weird Al's The Night Santa Went Crazy :D I watched the BBC adaptation of The Terror and it was really good so I may pick up the book to see how it compares.
Ooh I'll have to check that out. Love weird al

Just in time before I go to work!!! Wooot!!!
Can (The Mist) be read as a stand-alone? As I realize it’s the book 3 of a series 😢
It's a companion series so you can definitely start there
thanks so much for the reccs these look so good
Thanks

Thanks for the rec! I've seen that cover around and have always thought about picking it up. You're certainly motivating me to do so!
I'd love to read The Terror!, it's been on my tbr list for so long. Now that you recommended it I'm even more interested in it! 📚😁
Happy to give you that nudge!
Great list!
Definitely adding some of these to my goodreads list
Yay!
Omg I read dying for Christmas last year it is so messed up 😅
Yes! I loved it!
I used to walk to work in -40 weather (Celcius) and I made sure that every walk I was listening to the Terror on audiobook...it was the ultimate immersive experience haha.
That would be the perfect atmospheric experience! I'm guessing you're also Canadian with those nasty temperatures
@@TheShadesofOrange Yup! I was in Calgary at the time of that job. Western Canada gets REAL cold haha.
@@ITCamefromthePage yes!!
Yayyyy.....i need this recs now thank you ❤️
Yay! Happy to help!
I just tagged Taaqtumi in my Hoopla account. It sounds like an amazing collection of stories. I can't wait to read it.
Awesome I didn't know it was on Hoopla
If I were the author of The mist I would put your "This is not a fun book." quote on the cover, ha-ha.
Lol!!
Dying for Christmas and Taaqtumi sound amazing!! Hoping to get a hold of them in December!
I hope you get a chance to read them! I'm hearing that they should be in the Hoopla catalog
I also read "Taaqtumi" and ' The Terror" . Really good books. "The Mist" is the third of a series. Can you read it without reading the first two ?
Yes, the mystery is entirely self contained it just features the same detective

Lol nice people can't like horror?! 😅
Lol at least I seem* nice 😄
