The farmer made a cameo So that means the farmer is aware of Wallace and gromit Hopefully that means a crossover episode in season 7 of shaun the sheep
Shaun was already in A Close Shave. He must have made his way over to the farm at some point. Also, the climax of VMF occurs at the Yorkshire border, so that means the farm must be located in Yorkshire, along with W&G's address.
OMG headcanon time I'd say that after the events of a close shave, shaun eventually got too much to handle so Wallace sold him to the farmers father, who was a sheep breeder (this is the farmer that appears in vengeance most fowl) the farmers father then had a son who started a sheep farm (the son is the farmer in the shaun the sheep tv show) this farmer had a "Shaun II" who is the main character in the show A Close Shave takes place around the mid 60s Vengeance most fowl takes place around 1970 (the whole Wallace and gromit series has a big 60s-70s aesthetic) The shaun the sheep TV show takes place in the present (the car number plates in the films and TV show are more modern ones) 🤓
I never noticed until I watched it, but the wrong trousers was the last time they used the teapot. Feathers Mcgraw was playing a ridiculously long game there
@SomeBoiOnline Just to say, it's been a while since I've watched some of them, so I may have forgotten some things here or there. I'm confident, but take it with a grain of salt, I might be wrong
@Ben-m9n7p Teapots were used in Were-Rabbit. Not sure if it's the same one, but methinks that Feathers was really pushing his luck by assuming they'd never use the teapot again 😀
@Ben-m9n7p I just happened to be flipping through Were-Rabbit videos and saw where they get their work clothes and tea. Can't be sure it's the same teapot. But I also don't expect things to make sense. I'm not one of those people who agonizes over whether Shaun in Close Shave is the same as the one in Shaun the Sheep, and what it truly MEANS because the farmer made an appearance in the new movie. It's all just fun references. 😀
This genuinely made me cry. The theatrical quality, the orchestral score, and the quintessentially British tradition it kept. Bravo, Nick Park, Merlin Crossingham, and cracking job, cast and crew.
I got to say it was a really good watch, Peter Kay’s performance was the best part, he was absolutely hilarious. and it really makes me want more. I think my biggest critique is that Wallace is barely in the second act and I wish there was more build up to Wallace’s realization at the end. But aside from that, it was so nice seeing this duo back in action and it leaves me craving more.
Shaun the sheep got his name in the Wallace and Gromit short "A Close Shave" when , after being rescued from being rustled, he got caught up in Wallace's sheep shearing to knitware machine. After he was shorn of his wool and had it replaced by a pullover made from it Wallace said "I think I'll call him Shaun"
Felt very much like an extended version of The Wrong Trousers, and I mean that in the best way possible. New company making Gromit feel neglected (Feathers/Norbot), Feathers using Wallace's invention to steal the blue diamond (Techno-Trousers/Norbot), and a chase scene at the end (mini-train/barge). Coupled together with some great fanservice, a fun police subplot, and WAY more townspeople than you see in any other short, and this is an all-time classic. It always amazes me how long it must take for the scenes where there are full crowds talking at once and Wallace's ears wiggling so naturally .
I was so happy they absolutely nailed it Feather's got a return worthy of him. I cheered so loud when Gromit hopped on the Motorbike from A Close Shave ^__^😭. And huge props to Ben Whitehead he absolutely nailed the performance of Wallace he was sensational Peter would be proud 😭
@@SomeBoiOnline Thankfully I only watched the initial teaser so all those things were still surprises for me. I hate it when Marketing does stuff like that
This film was fantastic, it felt a little longer than it should have been but the jokes and Feathers vs Gromit makes up for it Love the Anton Deck joke, that had me in stitches
But the TV show was always implied to be set in a different "world", so that version of Shaun was always separate from the original version seen in W&G.
@@SomeBoiOnlineI always assumed they were the same world even if i did feel the disconnect. so getting a straight up confirmation is probably a big deal.
I'm really glad you got to see it early - you really deserve it! We watched it as a family of 3 generations on Christmas day and it was a real highlight. I can't wait to watch it again now.
How to know you’re a got Wallace and gromit fan: 1) have Aardman personally get in contact with you to watch vengeance most foul early 2) have a gromit mug collection
Something I noticed rewatching the older WG films is that Peter's Wallace never really shouted at all, he would sort of just talk quite loudly. Ben actually makes Wallace shout and for me those moments were like 90% of the time I become actively 'aware' Peter is gone. Still a great performance though, and I imagine itll only get better going forward
Yeah I find that if Peter's voice ever went higher, it would crack and wobble (probably due to his age), whereas Ben is a lot younger so generally has a stronger vocal presence.
Fantastic review as always. You have a wonderful ability to verbalise thoughts that many of us have, but cannot actually pinpoint. I really liked the flashback to The Wrong Trousers, and the character of PC Mackintosh has essentially given us a working continuity/timeline of Wallace and Gromit due to his aging from a young police officer to a retired one, and of course looking middle-aged in Were Rabbit. I always used to wonder whether the films happened in the order they were released in, or whether you could rearrange them. But this gives us an actual timeline for the first time I believe. It’s a shame there was no reference to the events of Curse of the Were Rabbit, as Wallace being involved in that mystery would have given Mackintosh even more reason to distrust him. They could have definitely have made a rabbit or bunny joke there! As you pointed out, the original shorts were very sparse on other characters and did have a closed off quality. I think this definitely gave it a unique feeling that hasn’t been replicated since. Your description of it being cozy sums it up perfectly. It has also been described as having a comic book, beanotown feel. Having the flashback to the Wrong Trousers era with other characters highlights the difference between Wallace and Gromit in 1993 and 2024 in many respects. Although I liked the continuity, it definitely felt like they were looking back from a current day perspective.
Thanks so much for the kind words, means a lot! Some great points here, I'd have loved some Were-Rabbit references like this, but get the feeling Aardman are restricted in what they can use from it due to the DreamWorks partnership. In regards to rearranging, I suppose you could stick "Loaf and Death" after this one, since Fluffles is nowhere to be seen...
@@SomeBoiOnline I don't know, doesn't that just cover the rights to the Were-Rabbit film itself? Chicken Run got an entire sequel without DreamWorks' involvement besides licensed footage of the original movie and this isn't even the first time Were-Rabbit stuff has reappeared in some form. Though it would've been a kinda neat and nerdy continuity nod if Mackintosh also mentioned that film's events or at least the duo foiling Preston or such. Fluffles could just be like Shaun (or possibly eventually Norbot) in that they're just kinda absent from the next proper entry just because.
SPOILERS: I was so happy with the Project Zoo references, so happy Aardman didn't forget about that niche videogame, as it was also another time where Feathers was involved.
@@SomeBoiOnlineThe animation from Vengeance Fowl looks absolutely incredible and brilliant compared to the Were Rabbit from 2005 Its been so long since we got another Wallace and d Groomit
Saw this video as soon as the film finished - it was incredible! I loved it so much, and my nan (who's never seen a wallace & gromit before and doesn't speak much English) was laughing throughout
That's fantastic. I think a strength of these films is that there are so many visual gags, so I'm glad your nan could enjoy it regardless of language barriers!
Anyone else wonder what happened to Fluffles? Cuz it was established at the end of A Matter of Loaf and Death she'd be joining the duo but she's never seen again or even mentioned after that. Am I missing something?
Something I noticed, Norbot's gnome song finally got a proper (as in, not just the Bake-o-lite jingle) diegetic lyric song into a Wallace & Gromit film after Were-Rabbit cut the Anti-Pesto song with the Wallace playing an instrument plotline.
Loved it as a comeback. The plot was so original but you're right it was missing the menacing slow burn and the original idea that wallace and gromit are the only people around or limited. The diamond reveal was so good, but the gnome song was cringey. I think it looked really sharp and slick, but I miss the thumbprints here and there to give the characters a loved look. Cant wait for your next vid!
Thanks! Yeah I pretty much agree with your points here, not a fan of the gnome song and although there are still fingerprints, everything seems much more polished.
Loved it. Love Nobot and the James Bond nods... like the underground sub base. Feathers is a legend and a welcome return 30 years later. He even sweats again lol. Always such charm with these films.
Well the final act of A Matter Of Loaf & Death was a homage to Aliens they said so on the commentary for that so I'm sure it was definitely intentional ^__^
@SomeBoiOnline Plus whilst people are discussing the film's critique of AI, I think this homage was meta by being a sly dig at Hollywood current obsession with bad 2D animated stuff when they've done things better in 3D claymation 😆
i think it was slightly more cinematic than the ware rabbit. the set up at the beginning was amazing, super complex camera angles i thought couldn’t be possible with stop motion and the fact they acknowledged computers exist
There are some fantastic shots in this and it just looks incredible, but in watching Were-Rabbit, I still find it to be the most cinematic of the two. They both are in different ways I suppose!
I found it the opposite with his voice. In the beginning i really noticed the difference, especially in quieter moments. But as the pace ramped up i felt his voice got alot better and i stopped noticing it was any different and had to keep reminding myself this wasn't peter
I suppose we adjust to it over the course of the movie, but if you compare them directly, I think Wallace's quieter lines are much closer to Peter's original. It's really good either way though!
Glad to hear somebody shared my thoughts in regard to the trailers showing far too much. Sadly it did affect my experience a little. My only other issue was the finale showdown. I just felt like it was a little too short and didn’t live up to the train chase in any way.
The fact that the farmer appeared was brilliant and just the acting was great. Im just a tiny bit annoyed that feathers just gets away but, they may release a new film in another 30 years.
I'll be 40 this month...I absolutely loved the wrong trousers when i saw it back in the 90s. I had seen a grand day out but the wrong trousers blew me away. Ive watched it regularly all my life. I like all the others but none have the same atmosphere. I went into vengeance pretty sceptical as i wasn't mad on a matter or even were rabbit. It totally exceeded my expectations. I must have watched it 10 times already. I love the pace, the music, the animation, the nods to other films,.....its just perfect. 11/10 for me
I had only seen a couple of ads for it and thought it was amazing! I assumed the black eyed gnomes was just a device to let the audience know 'summit was amiss!' I especially like how Wallace had an option for Evil in his character menu, and the little dig at the foolishness of memorable passwords!
Some of my favourite bits: Feathers having to do a 'I am not a robot' Captcha test and wondering whether to select the moon as 'cheese'. Feathers stroking a baby seal. Gnorbot cutting the tree branch ala Looney Tunes. 'Give it some welly'
@@diabeticman2194 Oh, and the scene where Wallace saw Feathers with the glove on, and didn't recognise him until he took it off (again). I was anticipating that to happen, and the satisfaction of it following through was great.
WARNING SPOILERS (I think) The jam launcher makes the same sound effect For any Americans, the policeman's boat reads 'dun nickin' To nick someone is a British term for someone to be arrested The drill makes the same sound as it did in the first film (and looks like the same drill that Gromit throws himself off in the first film) Gromit makes a slight noise, in the form of a shocked yelp. This is the first time he's actually made a noise since The Wrong Trousers The book Gromit is reading in has featured in A Grand Day Out, Wrong Trousers and Matter of Loaf And Death Albert Mckintosh's age messes with the time period of the film, as in Were Rabbit, which came out almost 20 years ago now, he's much younger. The order I think the films go in (time period wise) is: Were Rabbit Grand Day Out Wrong Trousers Vengeance Most Fowl Close Shave Matter of Loaf and Death This works in well that they would still have the van, and I like to think considering the motorbike is stock in the film, this is before Wallace did the plane sidecar modifications to it. Vengeance also really ties in well considering in this order, Wallaces get you up machine is much simpler. The Christmas ident where they are all making ice sculptures appears to have Peter Sallis' audio, if you listen closely The cameo from the farmer you've already mentioned The type of steam train at the end if your interested (which features for about 12 seconds) is an LNER J72 steam train Hope some of this makes it into your next vid Jordan, all the best 😊
I think the only change I would make to your timeline is The Grand Day Out I think it being first makes more sense, mainly cuz Wallace and Gromit have slightly different designs, we have the out of universe reason, but in universe, it makes more sense if they're just younger
I’m still trying to figure out what the engine of the train was. I thought it was an 0-6-2T, and the lime green livery is very NER, so I assumed it might’ve been modelled after an NER B/B1.
Just watched it and simply fantastic! What a return! The references, the music, everything! It's so well produced I personally think it should have a theatrical release internationally
An 8/10 for me, its everything I wanted out of a sequel to the wrong trousers but with a few minor nitpick, LOVED THE SHOT OF THE NORBOTS LOOKING AT GROMIT FROM THE RAFTERS, ITS SO FUCKING COOL
I loved it but frustratingly had to stop half way through because Xmas dinner was served. Continued it straight after Gavin and Stacey- it was amazing! Loved the canalboat climax. Thanks for the great review. Did you spot Gromit reading Paradise Lost by John STILTON!😂?
Oh no! 😂 Gavin and Stacey was great too, feels like a return to form for British Christmas telly! There's so many easter eggs and puns I think I'll have missed loads...
If I'm honest, I just thought it was okay. While Were-Rabbit was great, I think W&G works better in the short 30 minute format. I also have to agree with you on it feeling like a short dragged out into a feature. On a side note, I hope we get more W&G films more consistently, rather than having to wait 16 years; and if they do them as shorts, then they will be able to be made faster.
@@simontay4851 I know, but if they do a 30 minute short, then i feel like they could do it in 2-3 years, since Loaf and Bread came out 3 years after Were-Rabbit and the technology has evolved a lot since then.
They should make a new claymation film next production will probably start mid 2025 and it’ll come out later on then we will get Wallace and gromit in the near future
I can honestly say I came in really concerned in wondering if they would live up to it but oh my word, they exceeded. In my opinion this was utterly hysterical (really if anything this was the prime time viewing and I can see why the BBC put this on as the prime time film) and it was truly funny - I'm still getting over how bad my throat is after this because I laughed so hard and this is a real classic. Possibly the best since the Wrong Trousers.
Nice review! Everyone has pretty much said everything i have in mind but i thought it was great and everything i was expecting really. I think i prefer this to Were Rabbit, just because it feels more in line with the original shorts which will always be at the top for me. Not just because of the fact that it's a sequel, but aesthetically as well. I thought the lighting and the animation style especially felt more in line with the older stuff. I feel like Loaf and Death lost something and it feels like with this one it's regained some of it's spirit which made W&G so great to begin with. As you said, some parts definitely felt more aimed at kids, especially with Norbot and the musical number. I would have liked them to go a bit darker. As someone that grew up with the original 3 (especially TWT and ACS) , this felt like a modern day take on that. It is still strange to me that they're are now other characters living in the town, seeing that flashback was particularly weird but cool as well. But i was 5 when ACS came out, it's hard to replicate the feelings you get from absolutely loving something as a kid. It's interesting how we all have different versions of what "our Wallace & Gromit" is, and like you say part of that is definitely nostalgia. I'd really like to see them go back to the 30 minute, slower paced, closed off short one day but i can't really see that happening these days because they have a much higher budget to work with. But like i say, much more in essence of the original shorts to me, just more developed. I suppose it's comparative to seeing your kids growing up! Looking forward to the more in depth review down the like :)
Thanks! It does very much feel like a short disguised as a feature in a few ways, hence the similarities to the originals, but with modern elements. It's an interesting cocktail and you've made some good points.
I was also lucky enough to see it in a theater as well! I absolutely loved it, especially Peter Kay as Mac. It’s crazy how he slipped right back into the role. Reece also did a great job as Norbot. Tons of kids in the audience were mimicking his lil "ta-da!" by the end.
I liked the film, but the gnome singing got a little annoying for me. The Feathers music cues from Wrong trousers was used a little much. Wallace giving Gromit pets was heart warming though
Completely agree, singing hasn't been a thing in the films before so it felt weird, whilst the Feathers music cue lost its impact after a while unfortunately. It was definitely a heart-warming ending though!
Removing the police side plot, i liked it. The police weren't really needed, and i was really confused why the lady copper at the end got some form of reward, after it was gromit that literally did it all...
@SomeBoiOnline Wallace being oblivious to Gromit is funny and part of the fun. Gromit being snubbed by a character who was beige to say the least annoyed me... Atleast he got a pat on the head in the end, rather that than nothing!
I’m fine with the idea of PC Mac aging, but I don’t like the idea of retiring. Peter Kay’s not too old and he’s expressed great interest in the role, so it would be something of a waste to bring him back only to replace him.
The one thing that really bothers me about the movie is why didn't Wallace use the reset buttons that were installed on the Gnomes' backs? Other than that, this was a Fun Movie. That 'Ant and Dec' gag was genius.
@@SomeBoiOnline I suppose that does make sense. Something else that doesn't make sense though is how did Feathers McGraw swap the Turnip with the Diamond whilst tied up?
The final chase surely ends up on the Italian Job, no? The gnome chain is a trope I can remember from the og doctor Doolittle books, but guy catching guy over abyss has its own long cinematic history, I’m sure. Sub with organ is 2+,000 leagues, we Ausprobieren got the scanner from Aöiens and terminator vision. All rather fun.
My favourite bits. Antton deck Feathers mcgraw stroking a seal Feathers doing a (i'm not a robot) test The wrong trousers references (music not the copyrighted one but the background music) Norbot doing the exact same thing when feathers mcgraw is seen by us for the first time in the wrong trousers
I hope we get more connections on the story, I like how they kept going back, I feel like it really rounds the story more, and I want more of that! And the cameo of the Farmer, I hope they give more insight onto a possible connection between the two, especially how it feels like we barely have any evidence on how canon the Shaun the sheep franchise is to Wallace and Gromit.
I was highly anticipating Vengeance Most Fowl but I was also cautiously optimistic since Aardman hadn’t been on their A game in recent times. Luckily however, this movie was a blast and Aardman managed to create something truly special for the first time in a long time. Any doubts I had about the movie where evaporated when I watched the movie, it is just as good as I hoped it would be. Aardman really brought out the big guns for this movie and it is so refreshing to see a continuation of a classic franchise which lives up to its predecessors. I can be a difficult person to impress but Vengeance Most Fowl absolutely did it and I am so happy. I got to watch the movie with a lot of people in my family and it was absolutely wholesome. Seeing my whole family share their admiration for Wallace and Gromit before we watched the movie and then everyone highly enjoyed the movie, even the people who are typically against animated family movies was just such a sweet experience for me.
Ranking all the Wallace and Gromit shorts and films bottom to top Vengeance Most Fowl A Matter of Loaf and Death A Grand Day Out A Close Shave The Wrong Trousers The Curse Of The Were Rabbit
Hello there, fellow Brit here, figured I'd share my W&G Christmas experience, basically this Christmas I decided to spend it with my nan since I haven't done that for a while, one of the reasons why was so I could watch this with her as besides myself, she's the one who watches W&G the most in the family, anyway today as soon as we got home from the family dinner we immediately got ready, sat down with a drink and enjoyed the film, absolutely loved it, the cameos from were rabbit and the farmer from Shaun the sheep had me freaking out, already knew about makentosh but didn't realise so many others were appearing. It feels like I got a bit of my childhood back with this film, I feel Ben Whitehead did the best job anybody could, he's the best choice possible, the Anton deck joke had me on my ass everytime it happened, seeing feathers again felt so nostalgic, kinda happy the gnomes were not just full on evil but just corrupted, glad he got a bit of redemption.
Nick Park pulled it off again. I don't know how he does it. It was brilliant. It was shown in selected cinemas in the UK. I would've loved to have seen it on the big screen.
This was better than the wererabbit! I actually only viewed the teaser, thinking this film would be a short, I didn’t want to spoil it for myself. So I basically went in blind it was just a surprise to see all the call backs!
Yeah I can see that. I liked the creepy aspect of the gnomes, but not so much the hideous singing 😅 The police felt a bit like filler at times and Feathers does undoubtedly steal the show!
All I want to know is . . . where was Fluffles? I thought the film was fine. I think it's the weakest of all the Wallace and Gromit movies. Didn't feel it had the same energy which is fair enough like, because Nick Park is getting up there and I'm not holding that against it. Didn't feel as tight with its editing and punchline delivery. But I love these characters so it was nice seeing them again.
Found it pretty disappointing, jokes didn't really land, pacing felt really off, like it didn't know what to stick to, like you said the film felt very fast, liked the ending though, and I like that they're trying to make the universe a bit more consistent post wererabbit. 6/10 ish
Yes I can agree with some points here. A lot of jokes didn't feel as strong as before, the pacing was odd at times and I'd agree that there's an attempt to connect the previous films together.
Just watched it and thought it was pretty good. The ending had me puzzled though; I get the feeling that they want to do another given how Feathers isn’t caught and we’re teased a full scale train chase. Macintosh’s return was welcome, and I hope they’re not done with him since it would be a waste of bringing back Peter Kay. I liked the references and the score, and overall it still had that cozy Wallace and Gromit feel.
Good analysis! I was half expecting another train chase and for Feathers to be apprehended, so I totally get where you're coming from. Feels like PC Mac has been written out unfortunately with his retirement, but you never know!
I have yet to watch it again, but there are tons of visual gags. Watch out for homage to classic movies such as the movement detector scene from Aliens, the end sequence from the Italian Job, not to mention the African Queen. There are going to be a load of others in there too. A lot of adult gags.
Merry christmas eager to see your review on the new movie it is definitely in it’s own league but it is fantastic and so many Easter eggs in there and find I think we should do a Wallace and Gromit origin story for their next movie of how they like met!
I was at my cousins house before the movie premiered on the BBC, and I RUSHED home to watch it in time. I thought the film was amazing, it’s strange to think that this is the first movie released in 16 years for the franchise. I think that some scenes felt as though they were targeted towards younger children which wasn’t something I was a fan of, but either way I thought it was great! I loved your video so much, you’re the UK’s resident Wallace and Gromit reviewer, and your videos have such a cozy vibe. Thank you for the hours of entertainment this year, merry Christmas!
Thanks you so much, really means the world to hear and glad you enjoyed the film! I don't suppose any of the scenes in question would feature the gnome song? 😅
Me and my family all sat down to watch it yesterday. Simply put, a cracking film. A great sequel to The Wrong Trousers and yet it also felt like its own movie, and it paid homage to the history of Wallace & Gromit with ingenious callbacks to all the previous films. My dad in particular - who loves The Wrong Trousers, thought Vengeance Most Foul was every bit as good! Ben Whitehead has proved he’s a true successor to Peter Salis, Peter Kay and the rest of the cast did a great job - was great to see Peter Kay back as PC Macintosh, especially - Feathers is impeccable as ever, Norbot is lovable & terrifying, full of brilliant gags, thrills, heart & terrors… Best way to sum up Vengeance Most Foul? Job Well Done, Lad! 😁👍🏻
@ Cheers, mate! Great review as always! We absolutely loved it when The Farmer from Shaun The Sheep made an appearance! Would love to see Shaun reunite with Wallace & Gromit one day, and maybe see Gromit interact with Bitzer. P.S. Happy Boxing Day! 👍🏻🎁
Saw the premier and it is literally a dream come true! The hugeness of everything in the film is what amazed me most of all and SPOILERS seeing the farmer had me laughing so much!
I liked it, I think some scenes were a bit long in places which slowed the pace a little, I think my favourite part was Norbot being first presented to Gromit and Wallace says he made Norbot to help him so it's voice activated the look Gromit gives to camera.😂
Feathers stroking the seal like Blofeld will forever live rent free in my head 🤣
That was one of the best bits 🐧
Fantastic and we had no idea it was coming! 😅
I wonder what crime that seal committed to get locked up in maximum security. >_>
Good point, it's unclear whether the other residents are criminals, or just happen to be in the zoo 😅
Fun fact. That seal was called Ron. Ronseal
The farmer made a cameo
So that means the farmer is aware of Wallace and gromit
Hopefully that means a crossover episode in season 7 of shaun the sheep
Even outside of the show, the poor Farmer can’t catch a break
Does this I play that everyone in the farmer’s town is mute
Shaun was already in A Close Shave. He must have made his way over to the farm at some point. Also, the climax of VMF occurs at the Yorkshire border, so that means the farm must be located in Yorkshire, along with W&G's address.
i mean… Shaun exists in that one short film, so it’s already been established that they’re already set in the same universe, surely?
OMG headcanon time
I'd say that after the events of a close shave, shaun eventually got too much to handle so Wallace sold him to the farmers father, who was a sheep breeder (this is the farmer that appears in vengeance most fowl) the farmers father then had a son who started a sheep farm (the son is the farmer in the shaun the sheep tv show) this farmer had a "Shaun II" who is the main character in the show
A Close Shave takes place around the mid 60s
Vengeance most fowl takes place around 1970 (the whole Wallace and gromit series has a big 60s-70s aesthetic)
The shaun the sheep TV show takes place in the present (the car number plates in the films and TV show are more modern ones)

Something to note, Wallace didn't invent the Techno-Trousers. He says they're "Ex-NASA".
The animation is superb and this does feel like a spiritual successor, as well as a direct sequel to The Wrong Trousers!

@@SomeBoiOnline Thankfully I only watched the initial teaser so all those things were still surprises for me. I hate it when Marketing does stuff like that
@@SomeBoiOnline the trailer on UA-cam revealed every key moment, it was really bad for spoilers 😢
@@KeyBladeMaster-Dan
I also only watched the initial reveal for the same reason.
Should have left Feathers in jail and come up with an entirely new plot. Suggests to me they have run out of original ideas.
This film was fantastic, it felt a little longer than it should have been but the jokes and Feathers vs Gromit makes up for it
Love the Anton Deck joke, that had me in stitches
Agreed, those parts were perfect and there's some great gags in there!
Shaun the sheep's first appeareance, was actually in Wallace and Gromit. His popularity in that particular short is what greenlit his TV show
But the TV show was always implied to be set in a different "world", so that version of Shaun was always separate from the original version seen in W&G.
@@SomeBoiOnlineI always assumed they were the same world even if i did feel the disconnect. so getting a straight up confirmation is probably a big deal.
And and and , Britney Spears wearing a Shaun the Sheep Backpack that gained a lot of attention in pop culture
I'm really glad you got to see it early - you really deserve it! We watched it as a family of 3 generations on Christmas day and it was a real highlight. I can't wait to watch it again now.
Aw thanks! I enjoyed it even more on Christmas day with family, really is the best time to watch these films!
I watched it today, you wouldn't think the Wrong Trousers was 31 years ago. Nick Park still has it, I hope the next one is not too far in the future.
He definitely does, hopefully the next one isn't too many years away!
How to know you’re a got Wallace and gromit fan:
1) have Aardman personally get in contact with you to watch vengeance most foul early
2) have a gromit mug collection
Can't argue with that 😂
HE DIDN’T SAY *CHEEEEEEESE!!!!* But It Was Funny When Feathers Guessed Wallace’s Password!
Good point, didn't notice that! At least we got the cheese referenced in the password sequence!
@@SomeBoiOnlinealso loved the callback to Grand Day Out in the captcha test!
Yes!
I guessed the password straight away 🙂
I was disappointed it wasn’t W3N5L3YD4L3 😂!
I feel lucky to actually watch it premiere today, I thought it was amazing to actually experience a new W&G premiere happen.
It'll be a new experience for so many, really glad you enjoyed it!
I think I love Feathers even more than I did previously, bloody penguin
He is so good in this! 😄
Ben Whitehead because but has been replaced Peter Sallis now since 2012
SPOILERS:
I was so happy with the Project Zoo references, so happy Aardman didn't forget about that niche videogame, as it was also another time where Feathers was involved.
Are you referring to the submarine? Not too familiar with PZ yet so need to check.
Literally just watching the credits it was so good
Glad you came straight here and enjoyed the film! 😁
sad they didnt say in memory of the original wallace voice actor
I’m so jealous you got to watch it a week early man
@@routeone4790 exactly, thats what i said
@@SomeBoiOnlineThe animation from Vengeance Fowl looks absolutely incredible and brilliant compared to the Were Rabbit from 2005
Its been so long since we got another Wallace and d Groomit
It was everything I wanted and more. 10/10. Smiled throughout. Won't spoil anything.
Just brilliant.
Same, saw it Two Days ago in Theatres, my Lips are sealed!!! I loved it!!!
Really glad people enjoyed it!
The steam loco at the end appears to be heavily based on the LNER / BR J72 ( which is currently being restored by the NELPG group).
The livery is definitely NER, but it looked like a B or B1 0-6-2T. I could’ve swore it had a trailing wheel but I couldn’t find a clear image online.
Really felt for Gromit as he pushed aside from Norbot but great to see dynamic duo back together again at the end
I think feeling bad for Gromit is a core part of the W&G experience 🥹 really good scenes though!
Yeah I noticed that! Still not a massive fan of songs in W&G though, I remember being glad they cut the one from Were-Rabbit 😅
The scene when i thought Grommit was a gonner I was shouting NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
😂
I love the bit where Wallace thinks Feathers has come around to use the teapot
Loved it as a comeback. The plot was so original but you're right it was missing the menacing slow burn and the original idea that wallace and gromit are the only people around or limited. The diamond reveal was so good, but the gnome song was cringey. I think it looked really sharp and slick, but I miss the thumbprints here and there to give the characters a loved look. Cant wait for your next vid!
Thanks! Yeah I pretty much agree with your points here, not a fan of the gnome song and although there are still fingerprints, everything seems much more polished.
Shooting it on film again instead or digital would help a lot. The grainy picture and slightly desaturated colours is what's missing
Another good point, even if it was desaturated a tad I think that would help.
In the wrong trousers, there's a newspaper headline 'sheep found guilty' which I thought was a hint to the upcoming close shave / ie the same world
So there may very well be some hints for the future in this film too!
Loved it. Love Nobot and the James Bond nods... like the underground sub base. Feathers is a legend and a welcome return 30 years later. He even sweats again lol. Always such charm with these films.
Feathers is really great in this, a perfect return!
When Gromit has the Norbot army on sensor but they're actually below when he can't see them physically.... was that a callout to Aliens?! Wild if so!
Well the final act of A Matter Of Loaf & Death was a homage to Aliens they said so on the commentary for that so I'm sure it was definitely intentional ^__^
@KeyBladeMaster-Dan thanks I laughed my head off and thought "did they really go THERE?"
Yes I believe it was 😂
@SomeBoiOnline Plus whilst people are discussing the film's critique of AI, I think this homage was meta by being a sly dig at Hollywood current obsession with bad 2D animated stuff when they've done things better in 3D claymation 😆
i think it was slightly more cinematic than the ware rabbit. the set up at the beginning was amazing, super complex camera angles i thought couldn’t be possible with stop motion and the fact they acknowledged computers exist
I thought it was absolutely amazing. I LOVED how prominent MacIntosh was
Yes he got a good chunk of screentime, moreso than Were-Rabbit surprisingly!
Glad to hear somebody shared my thoughts in regard to the trailers showing far too much. Sadly it did affect my experience a little. My only other issue was the finale showdown. I just felt like it was a little too short and didn’t live up to the train chase in any way.
Yeah I was half expecting a train chase rematch too, given that it seemed to be teased and was speculated about.
The fact that the farmer appeared was brilliant and just the acting was great. Im just a tiny bit annoyed that feathers just gets away but, they may release a new film in another 30 years.
All good points, very true!
11/10 for me
Arguably my favorite moment was the shoutout to A Grand Day Out; because of course the moon is made of cheese!
I had only seen a couple of ads for it and thought it was amazing! I assumed the black eyed gnomes was just a device to let the audience know 'summit was amiss!' I especially like how Wallace had an option for Evil in his character menu, and the little dig at the foolishness of memorable passwords!
Glad you enjoyed it, all these little details were great!
Some of my favourite bits:
Feathers having to do a 'I am not a robot' Captcha test and wondering whether to select the moon as 'cheese'.
Feathers stroking a baby seal.
Gnorbot cutting the tree branch ala Looney Tunes.
'Give it some welly'
Feathers putting on a nun outfit and Mackintosh believing it was a nun got me good
@@diabeticman2194 Oh, and the scene where Wallace saw Feathers with the glove on, and didn't recognise him until he took it off (again). I was anticipating that to happen, and the satisfaction of it following through was great.
All of these are genius moments from Aardman!
WARNING SPOILERS (I think)
The jam launcher makes the same sound effect
For any Americans, the policeman's boat reads 'dun nickin'
To nick someone is a British term for someone to be arrested
The drill makes the same sound as it did in the first film (and looks like the same drill that Gromit throws himself off in the first film)
Gromit makes a slight noise, in the form of a shocked yelp. This is the first time he's actually made a noise since The Wrong Trousers
The book Gromit is reading in has featured in A Grand Day Out, Wrong Trousers and Matter of Loaf And Death
Albert Mckintosh's age messes with the time period of the film, as in Were Rabbit, which came out almost 20 years ago now, he's much younger. The order I think the films go in (time period wise) is:
Were Rabbit
Grand Day Out
Wrong Trousers
Vengeance Most Fowl
Close Shave
Matter of Loaf and Death
This works in well that they would still have the van, and I like to think considering the motorbike is stock in the film, this is before Wallace did the plane sidecar modifications to it. Vengeance also really ties in well considering in this order, Wallaces get you up machine is much simpler.
The Christmas ident where they are all making ice sculptures appears to have Peter Sallis' audio, if you listen closely
The cameo from the farmer you've already mentioned
The type of steam train at the end if your interested (which features for about 12 seconds) is an LNER J72 steam train
Hope some of this makes it into your next vid Jordan, all the best 😊
Thanks for all of these details, they should certainly help me out!
I think the only change I would make to your timeline is The Grand Day Out
I think it being first makes more sense, mainly cuz Wallace and Gromit have slightly different designs, we have the out of universe reason, but in universe, it makes more sense if they're just younger
All brilliant stuff!
An 8/10 for me, its everything I wanted out of a sequel to the wrong trousers but with a few minor nitpick, LOVED THE SHOT OF THE NORBOTS LOOKING AT GROMIT FROM THE RAFTERS, ITS SO FUCKING COOL
That was one of my favourite shots, terrifying! 😂
You probably will have to wait years for the next one. It takes several years to animate and produce a claymation film.
Agreed, would be great to see them release somewhat regularly!
@@simontay4851 I know, but if they do a 30 minute short, then i feel like they could do it in 2-3 years, since Loaf and Bread came out 3 years after Were-Rabbit and the technology has evolved a lot since then.
Totally agree, but the good thing about wallace and gromit is quality not quantity
That's fantastic to hear, what more could you hope for! 😁
Great review, I can’t wait to see this!!
Thanks, glad you liked it!
It was great that Feathers escaped for more mischief in the future. According to Chicken Run 2 he’ll lay low in the chicken sanctuary island.
Yes that ties in perfectly now! 😅
I think Norbot will go down great with the kids, Peter is spot on as Mac!
Merry Christmas to you! I've watched it and it was honestly so good and amazing :)
It was such a pleasure to watch it today on Christmas Day
Merry Christmas, really glad you enjoyed!
thanks! I'm really glad too I enjoyed it
Best thing I've seen in a long time, when I saw the Yorkshire boarder I was done
Amazing 😂
I liked the film,
but the gnome singing got a little annoying for me.
Poor Gromit never getting enough credit... I loved seeing PC Mac back, but the police probably did have too much of a presence overall.
He didn't get the chance until the canal chase. Until he was kidnapped, he didn't believe they were evil, so wouldn't have reset them anyway.
I suppose he was oblivious to the fact they were evil early on, and by the time he clicked it was too late. Loved the Ant and Dec gag! 😅
@@SomeBoiOnline I suppose that does make sense.
Something else that doesn't make sense though is how did Feathers McGraw swap the Turnip with the Diamond whilst tied up?
That's a good point! You'd assume he would've just escaped if he'd untied himself 😅
*The Canal Scenes were brilliant - absolutely amazing - and Peter Kay was pure Genius as Chief Inspector Mackintosh !* 🤣😂
Those last scenes were amazing, great to have Peter back on TV!
Yeah W&G is full of so many references it's often hard to keep up!
Ben whitehead was great couldn’t tell the difference in my opinion Peter Salis would feel proud I think
Fantastic performance from Ben, most people just can't tell!
My favourite bits.
Antton deck
Feathers mcgraw stroking a seal
Feathers doing a (i'm not a robot) test
The wrong trousers references (music not the copyrighted one but the background music)
Norbot doing the exact same thing when feathers mcgraw is seen by us for the first time in the wrong trousers
Those are some great picks, I didn't even pickup on Norbot's head turn mirroring that of Feathers in his first appearance!
You'd think that Norbot would quickly get annoying, but they did a great job of somehow keeping him rather endearing, dare I say it even cute.
Yes by the end he's certainly more likeable!
feathers punching the bagpipe gnome was one of my favourite jokes
I hope we get more connections on the story, I like how they kept going back, I feel like it really rounds the story more, and I want more of that! And the cameo of the Farmer, I hope they give more insight onto a possible connection between the two, especially how it feels like we barely have any evidence on how canon the Shaun the sheep franchise is to Wallace and Gromit.
I'll definitely be covering the canonicity of Shaun in the future, so stay tuned! 😉
It definitely is the best of Aardman's recent stuff, I enjoyed it even more on the second watch!
Ranking all the Wallace and Gromit shorts and films bottom to top
Vengeance Most Fowl
A Matter of Loaf and Death
A Grand Day Out
A Close Shave
The Wrong Trousers
The Curse Of The Were Rabbit
I always find them difficult to rank, but my list would be very similar to yours!
Aw that's fantastic to hear, really glad everyone is having a good Christmas experience with W&G. I loved all these bits too!
it was incredible!! loved the name puns - anton deck, onya doorstep!
They're always so creative! 😅
As a Prestonian I absolutely loved the Madame Butter Pies.
😂
I didn't see a single trailer for it so was fantastic to see all the references come back, I always avoid trailers these days for that reason
Nick Park pulled it off again. I don't know how he does it. It was brilliant. It was shown in selected cinemas in the UK. I would've loved to have seen it on the big screen.
He certainly did, though part of me feels it almost works better as a Christmas Telly viewing, W&G were made for it.
This was better than the wererabbit! I actually only viewed the teaser, thinking this film would be a short, I didn’t want to spoil it for myself. So I basically went in blind it was just a surprise to see all the call backs!
That's a great way to go into it! Glad to hear you enjoyed it so much.
Ben Whitehead did a fantastic job as Wallace. I actually forgot he had a different voice actor halfway through the film.
That's exactly what you want to hear!
I thought it was ok. Found the Gnomes and police kinda annoying. The scenes with Feathers were the best bits imo
Hm stay tuned for a Fluffles video. I'm not too sure how I'd rank them, but it does feel quite different from the others in some ways.
A terrific movie but I do think that the short movie format suits the characters better. IMHO
It depends, I think Were-Rabbit worked really well as a feature, this one does feel more like a short though.
I watched the premiere of Wallace and Gromit VMF and I got to say I really liked it and I hope this movie gets watched by loads of people
I'm sure it will, we'll have some official viewing figures soon!
I agree Aardam are usually sneakerier with the trailer, but never the less à cracking Crimbo day release on BBC for once😊
It certainly was, a nice change! 🎄
I have yet to watch it again, but there are tons of visual gags. Watch out for homage to classic movies such as the movement detector scene from Aliens, the end sequence from the Italian Job, not to mention the African Queen. There are going to be a load of others in there too. A lot of adult gags.
Honestly this was cracking, I like Peter Kay coming back. I think this really opened up the opportunity for movies. Fingers crossed Aardman
It was so good to have him back! Definitely hoping for more...
Merry christmas eager to see your review on the new movie it is definitely in it’s own league but it is fantastic and so many Easter eggs in there and find I think we should do a Wallace and Gromit origin story for their next movie of how they like met!
Merry Christmas, I'd love to see even a flashback showing that!
@ possibly
A grand treat to watch on Boxing Day soon after watching Chicklen Run 2: Dawn of the Nugget
My overriding images of this Christmas was Feathers having a shave and dressed as a nun...classic
🤣
Merry Christmas to you Some Boi Online. I watched the movie and it was really great
Really glad you enjoyed the film, Merry Christmas!
Ben Whitehead has proved he’s a true successor to Peter Salis, Peter Kay and the rest of the cast did a great job - was great to see Peter Kay back as PC Macintosh, especially - Feathers is impeccable as ever, Norbot is lovable & terrifying, full of brilliant gags, thrills, heart & terrors…
Best way to sum up Vengeance Most Foul? Job Well Done, Lad! 😁👍🏻
Brilliant breakdown, loved all of these aspects so much.
An Instant Classic. The Cast, Crew & Master Storytelling from Nick Park was just so beautifully done. Cracking Job Gromit 🇬🇧 ☕️ 🧀
So great to hear! ☕️
Does anyone know what happened to Feathers after he escaped on the train?
He's on the run. Meaning that they might make it a trilogy.
Cracking film! worth the wait!
Saw the premier and it is literally a dream come true! The hugeness of everything in the film is what amazed me most of all and SPOILERS seeing the farmer had me laughing so much!
So glad to hear that! I loved the Farmer's cameo 😂
It was genuinely a masterpiece of film making.
Really impressive stuff as always from Aardman!
Watched it a few hours ago, one of the best films I've seen in ages
Fantastic stuff! 😁
I finally managed to find somewhere to watch the movie, and I can now say that I absolutely LOVED it! I especially liked the Norbot song.😄🎶
It's a bit sad that the best thing on Christmas tv is animation.
Have to say I enjoyed it.
I liked the send up of all the other movies.
Why should the medium dictate how good a film is????
I liked it, I think some scenes were a bit long in places which slowed the pace a little, I think my favourite part was Norbot being first presented to Gromit and Wallace says he made Norbot to help him so it's voice activated the look Gromit gives to camera.😂
That was probably one of the most well-thought-out moments 😂
