I got no idea how you managed to interview these guys but it was great either way! It was pretty funny when both you and Nick took out the Gromit mugs at the same time! (Not literally the same time but you get the point)
Congrats mate! You really had a great talk from Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham, two terrifc stop motion creators. What i understand, is how Nick and Merlin can embrace having the human touch by using technology for good intentions rather than the more verified and automatic way. Using robotic gnomes for an ideal concept, really turned a blind eye for Wallace being framed, when it was an old jailbird foe's own doing to escape and retrieve the diamond.
The fact you were able to secure an interview with both Nick and Merlin is insane! I can imagine how awestruck you must’ve been in the call with them. I love how genuine, sweet and professional both of them were during the interview as well, it was so wholesome seeing them talk so passionately with you about their craft. Something I didn’t think you would bring up is the old Gromit voice clip from Peter Hawkins, and if it is true that those clips may have been lost to time then it’s such a loss! But at the same time, Gromit being a mute character works better. Anyways, lovely videos as per usual, you’re one of my favourite content creators and I love your work so much! Have a wonderful new year :)
The interview we didn't know we wanted but the interview we needed. edit nick and some boi online both drinking from gromit mugs with live rent free in my head forever
This was such an enjoyable episode! So cool that you got to speak with Nick Parks! I used to do stop motion as a kid, and he was a big inspiration to me! Also, one thing to consider with the conversation about A.I. and art - every little thing that goes into every frame with a Wallace and Gromit animation is a specific stylistic choice, and can express feeling and nuance in a way that A.I. is unable to (at least currently). Wallace and Gromit feel so alive and different from A.I. art because the human hand has touched everything in every frame. Wallace and Gromit are not just some approximation based on training data.
This may well be the peak of your channel’s success! You’re such a dedicated fan of Wallace & Gromit that the creator has asked to interview you. I can only imagine that was an amazing experience.
You actually did it! What a guy. Well done and thank you for bringing us this fantastic interview. You’re really Going Places on this channel and surpassing all expectations. Looking forward to seeing what you’ve got in store for 2025!
Excellent interview. It's cool Aardman is checking out your channel. I especially liked @27:52 where you noticed the Shuan The Sheep cameo. I did too when I saw the film at the LA premiere but nobody in the audience seemed to notice it. I was glad to know now that both creations are in the same universe. Can't wait to see your behind the scenes tour of Aardman in 2025. Let me know if they are setting up plasticine models already for their Pokemon content.
Thanks so much! The Farmer cameo was probably the most surprising part of the film, perhaps the Shaun series isn't quite as well known in America if the audience didn't react to it... We'll have to see what happens!
These guys reaching out and coming on a (absolutely all due respect) medium sized community channel just fits the spirit of the characters they've created and reaffirms how much I love Aardman/W&G ❤ also just so happy for you getting to do this, we can all tell how much it means
@SomeBoiOnline no worries dude, it was a great interview and honestly you 100% deserve the recognition! And It definitely seems that way with Nick, such a wonderful soul!
It was a real treat Christmas day to watch this with my son. Some real belly laughs. Btw my son is now 34 years old. He come a long way since 'The Wrong Trousers'
I am so happy for you! What a moment to have had! They are such lovely gentlemen and very happy to got to speak to them both. Even sharing a Gromit moment with Nick! Wallace and Gromit is pure nostalgia, so I fully understand your excitment and moment talking to Nick and Merlin. I was very fortunate to work on the film and pinched myself everyday at what I was doing. I'm very glad your work has been recognised. Onwards and upwards!
That's awesome. I saw other UA-camrs interviewing them and I was disappointed that it wasn't you. Glad you got a chance to interview them too. I loved hearing them talk about how someone can mimic the voice for a small bit but it's totally different having an actor play the part. I think this is my issue with a lot of the people who whine about Matt Vogel replacing Steve Whitmire as Kermit. They claim that random people on TikTok would be better but they're just doing an impression. They're not actors. They're not puppeteers. So you can't just listen to a bunch of 10 second clips and claim they'd be a better Kermit
That section about AI was spot on, everything Merlin said was absolutely true. There are plenty of other ways to animate but there's a reason as to why Aardman stick to stop motion due to the creative process and the animators enjoying their craft. Completely true that AI is a tool and it's great that Nick and Merlin recognise its inherent use in many products already. Nick and everyone else within the stop motion animation industry have my utmost respect
That's why I wanted to highlight AI in the interview, as I knew they'd have some interesting and agreeable things to say regarding it! Certainly wasn't disappointed.
Massive congratulations for a well deserved interview! Love the way all three of you speak about Peter & Ben so caringly. Also big shout to the writing and performance for PC Muckherjee, a new character which felt a really solid fit for W&G, needless to say everything else about the movie too ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Wow! It must be so cool knowing that one of the directors followed you on IG and that they watch your videos.😄 Looks like all your effort on UA-cam has paid off. Great interview and a cracking job.😉🧀🐧
Watching this video made my evening! What an amazing opportunity for you, it must have been a bit surreal for you interviewing these absolute legends 🤩🤩🤩 have to say I felt a little envious hehehe 😅 Keep up the great work I love your videos ❤️❤️ Also do you do any conventions or anything? Would love to meet you in person one day 😁😁
Aw means a lot to hear that, it was definitely a surreal experience, but chill at the same time! Only been to a couple of conventions before, but I'll let people know if it happens at any point!
This is such an awesome video great to see you asking more unusual questions to Nick and Merlin which other fans may not ask ! As a 16 year old Aardman fan I absolutely love your in depth videos and analysis wich I hope to aim for on my social media keep up the great work lad ! 😊
Me neither, but from a completely different and unique angle. This interview makes me very sad for a very grave reason that everybody should know about, but nobody does and I´m still far too scared to tell. I haven´t said a word for 11 years, but this does it, I can´t keep silent anymore. First, I had no idea who Wallace and Gromit are when I was a child, I´m not British. But I got to meet Merlin "by chance", on Peter Sallis´s birthday party. Yes, that´s right (and Nick was on holiday at the time, so Merlin was his stand-in, so to speak), and Merlin was a very kind and funny person. First I was just a Peter fan like any other person, I am absolutely nothing to do with film industry. I visited England once to visit a theatre to hear him talk about his autobiography. The owner of the theatre found it so amazing that someone from abroad was there for that occasion that he told Peter about it who then wanted to meet me afterwards (imagine my shock!). That sparked a very close friendship almost immediately. He asked me to write to him and let him know when I was coming again. I hadn´t even planned to come again because I had little money. But of course I could not let this slide and we discovered we were completely on the same wavelength. A few years later something horrible happened that I can´t talk about, someone ruined his life completely, his worst nightmare came true. Even court was involved. Peter was isolated from everyone that this person didn´t approve of, which meant he was actually isolated from his friends. By isolated I mean completely isolated, as in banned, no contact. I can´t go into the matter because I´m far too afraid and traumatised. But you won´t read about it anywhere. I´m sitting here with a pounding heart and feeling sick, even many years later, and I don´t even know yet if I can work up the courage to post this. I´m so scared, I´m panicked I might draw any attention towards myself, but I just couldn´t bear it anymore either.💔🖤
In Loaf and Death, there is a Missing poster for Feathers, so I think Loaf and Death is canonically after Vengeance, explaining why Fluffles is missing
Well done on landing that interview! I can't wait until you visit the studios, i have always wanted to do a studio tour of Aardman Animations so that's going to be very exciting!
@SomeBoiOnline it's definitely a timeline to think about that. Would it have been as popular or more or less, plus would Hawkins have kept with the role
Oh mate, this is amazing! I'm made up for you, truly! Fantastic interview, really enjoyed it. Don't know how you got through it so calmly. It's akin to me interviewing Peter Cullen and Frank Welker, I'd be all over the shop! Well done! On the use of modern technology and stop-motion, I heard or read (I can't remember, I can remember Captain Pugwash... Just! And Master Bates. No, I'm not kidding.) an interview with the great Ray Harryhausen's daughter. She was asked if her dad were alive today (sometime in the 2000's I think) would he have used CGI in his films or would he have carried on using stop-motion? The lady replied saying that her dad would have used whatever would have made his films better, which I think is pretty on brand for Ray. He was always striving to make his films the greatest so why wouldn't he use all the tools at his disposal? I'm in no way saying stop-motion should be relegated to the dustbin of history, I love it and have an idea for a short I'd like to make myself, but if you can augment it with technology, why not? There are parts of my idea that I just wouldn't be able to physically do without a bit of non stop-motion animation, so the choice would be a green-screen or some low-level CGI and I'll be OK with that so long as the shot comes out the way I hope! Augmenting, not replacing. Right, I'm off to spend hours wondering if I made my Mum buy PG Tips for the umpteenth time so I could have the toy/mug/whatever because I can't stand tea and I swear she's tea-powered the amount she gets through! My Captain Pugwash-addled brain can't remember if I have one of those mugs! Cheers m'dear!
Thanks very much! I've heard people say the same about Jim Henson regarding the use of modern technology, I do think creative people will just aim to realise their ideas in the most effective way, regardless of the era.
How magnificent to be able to interview Nick and Merlin! I had a computer that had a program on it back in the 1990s that when it started up, Wallace’s voice would say “come on, stupid”! I wish I could have it again. Well done on the interview!
About gromit and his voice. In the danish dub of A Close Shave there is a small voiceover when he reads the message on the puzzle. It is a small and almost shy voice, but it works very well.
Well done, cracking interview! Whenever I think about in universe continuity, I always put A Grand Day Out as their last adventure, they look older in that than any of the other films!
I can tell this must have seemed overwhelming, but you gave excellent questions and maintained your composure while it was clear how much care and affection you had for the films. Nick seems to get a little emotional thinking about his early ambitions to create characters that people would like, and I suspect he hadn't thought about that stuff in a very long time. Also hearing that the fans really cared about Fluffles seemed quite gratifying for him.
Definitely, thanks so much for the kind words! I could really relate to Nick on that level, it felt quite emotional in that everything has come full circle.
Well done Son! I have to say this was lovely to watch, especially knowing how ingrained W & G is in your DNA! Definitely a dream come true and one you wholeheartedly deserve! Keep on with the amazing work! Xxx
OMGGGG NO WAYYY!!! NEVER THOUGHT I'D SEE THIS VIDEO FROM YOU BUT THIS IS INCREDIBLE!!!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩 Also, 1:31, SOME BOI ONLINE NAME REVEAL!??! 🤯🤣 5:18 THIS MOMENT HAS TO BE THE HIGHLIGHT OF THIS INTERVIEW!! 😂😂 Merlin just explaining about VMF whilst you and Nick are communicating through Gromit mugs 😂😂😂 Brilliant!!! 17:52, I like to think that Wendolene now looks after Fluffles, since Fluffles lost her owner, and Wendolene technically lost her dog. Ik he was "reprogrammed", but y'know lol
Thank you, I think my name has been said a few times across the channel, but not very often! The Gromit Mug moment was amazing 🤣 silent comedy much like Shaun the Sheep, no words needed haha! Love the Wendolene and Fluffles theory, it'd be so poetic if both W&G's love interests ended up in each other's company.
@@SomeBoiOnline No problem!! :D And oh, I don't think I've ever heard it before 😭 And YEAHH AHAHAHH LOVE ITT!!! And yeahh!! I feel like it would be cool to see that!! 🤩
Hey, I'd love to see you make a video on the puppets and props for the first 3 films. I know they were mostly burnt in the 2005 warehouse fire, but I'd love to see you research where the surviving props and puppets are today, specifically the Grand day out ones.
I know you've mentioned it before, but saying that Were-Rabbit was your introduction to Wallace & Gromit at 4 still makes me feel old. I was a not dissimilar age when introduced to W&G with 'The Wrong Trousers' (still my favourite) - though the only merchandise I've ever owned is a figure of the titular trousers, I believe from cereal, which I still have somewhere.
Nick and Merlin are genuinely such sweet guys. No wonder Wallace & Gromit has always been made with so much love and passion.
Very true!
Honestly so cool you were able to have a interview with the creator of Wallace & Gromit
A very surreal experience!
@@SomeBoiOnline I bet it is was, take that honour experience with you always

Neither do I! The Gromit Mug moment with Nick was hilarious, especially when it played out in real time! Very surreal experience 😂
The shared mug moment and Nick Park being amused by it was as heartwarming as it was funny 💖
It was! Loved the shared Gromit Mug moment 😂
Congratulations, what a way to end the year. A coming of age moment for you in a way
Thanks so much, definitely feels like a defining moment!
Ah, this is a great interview! I love that it starts with you and Nick each reminiscing about childhood dreams come true.
Aw thanks so much, Nick's a very relatable guy so it all came naturally!
I like you and Park having both the Gromit mugs, it’s cute.
Yeah it was great, pure coincidence that we had one of each design!

Thank you, certainly was!
It's really cool That they have time to do a podcast
Very generous of them to offer their time!
How magnificent to be able to interview Nick and Merlin! I had a computer that had a program on it back in the 1990s that when it started up, Wallace’s voice would say “come on, stupid”! I wish I could have it again.
Well done on the interview!
Thanks! Haha that's great, very much like the computer hacking scene in the new film!
AAAAhhhhhhh!!!
Oh my goodness!!
Had to wait til I got home and put cast it on the big TV screen!!! Love. This so much! 🤩
Looking forward to your review of the book! 🤓
Invited to the studio?!!! 🤯I would die!!! 🫠Oh wow congrats! 😊
Aw thanks so much, yes there's lots to look forward to in the future! 😊
Brilliant, what an honour 👍
Thanks, indeed!
About gromit and his voice. In the danish dub of A Close Shave there is a small voiceover when he reads the message on the puzzle. It is a small and almost shy voice, but it works very well.
Wow, fascinating stuff!
Really ! I’ll have to check that out
Amazing!
Thanks! 😁
Fair play mate, great interview.
Cheers, glad you enjoyed!
😂 laughing watching the cups 😂 so funny
It was great! 😂
This is great
Thanks!
Woah! Just watched Vengeance Most Fowl meself earlier, this was so unexpected, but incredible! 🤯
Ah that's great to hear, thanks so much!
Well done, cracking interview! Whenever I think about in universe continuity, I always put A Grand Day Out as their last adventure, they look older in that than any of the other films!
Thanks! Wow, that'd be a twist 😮
@@SomeBoiOnline The idea appeals! Kudos for the Laurel and Hardy mention too btw, as a Son of the Desert, it's always nice to hear them mentioned! 😁
What a nice interview. Well done.
So Fluffles is basically Wallace and Gromit Boba Fett?
Thank you, I guess so! 😂
Absolutely cracking!
Thank you! 🧀
Well done Son! I have to say this was lovely to watch, especially knowing how ingrained W & G is in your DNA! Definitely a dream come true and one you wholeheartedly deserve! Keep on with the amazing work! Xxx
Thank you 😊
oh wow this was epic to watch Some Boi Online
Aw thanks, glad you enjoyed!
I am so happy for you and I can't wait to see the movie
Thanks so much, hope you enjoy the film!
Fair play! Love them!
They were really fun to talk to!
Oh wow, this is absolutely incredible
Well done!
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed! 😊
We got a Nick and Merlin interview by Some boi online before GTA 6
😂👌
@ (video suggestion) Bro you need to do a Wallace and Gromit games review or something
Well done Jordan, this interview was fantastic 🎉👍
Cheers! 😊
I officially own the Gromit mug now and my youngest brother owns the golden Gromit mug
Hope you enjoy the Gromit Mugs! 😆
Wow!
Still in shock myself 😂
OMGGGG NO WAYYY!!! NEVER THOUGHT I'D SEE THIS VIDEO FROM YOU BUT THIS IS INCREDIBLE!!!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩
Also, 1:31, SOME BOI ONLINE NAME REVEAL!??! 🤯🤣
5:18 THIS MOMENT HAS TO BE THE HIGHLIGHT OF THIS INTERVIEW!!
:D And oh, I don't think I've ever heard it before 😭
And YEAHH AHAHAHH LOVE ITT!!!
And yeahh!! I feel like it would be cool to see that!! 🤩
Awesome!!
Hope you enjoyed! 😄
Look forward to watching this
Hope you enjoy!
The greatest colab😢
Aw thanks! 😁
4 years old in 2005. That means you're only 23 now. You make me feel old. It must've been a privilege to interview Nick and Merlin at only 23.
I was 6 back then
I still feel old 😂 and it was indeed, though Nick was also in his twenties when he created W&G!
I turned 40 on boxing day. I wish i could be 23 again.
@@simontay4851happy birthday
Hey, I'd love to see you make a video on the puppets and props for the first 3 films. I know they were mostly burnt in the 2005 warehouse fire, but I'd love to see you research where the surviving props and puppets are today, specifically the Grand day out ones.
Yes that would be great to do at some point, since it's came to light that they weren't all destroyed.
That would be interesting
Cracking interview Gromit
Cheers! 🧀
Absolutely brilliant interview! 👏👏👏
Thank you! 😊
I can't believe it was nearly 20 years ago myself, doesn't feel real!
This is so very sweet!
Glad you enjoyed! 😊
OMG!, how cool, you must of been bricking it 😅
Pretty much 😂
Cracking toast lad!
Cracking indeed, thanks! 😁
